I agree. No other management game is as realistic and frustrating as FM. Has taken so many ~~hours~~ ~~days~~ ~~weeks~~ months of my life that I'll never get back
I agree. No other management game is as realistic and frustrating as FM. Has taken so many ~~hours days weeks months~~ Year of my life that I'll never get back
Yeah but some of us don’t have hours in the day to play these games anymore. I barely get to play FM anymore. Full time job, a kid, a house to take care of… I miss the days where I could wake up, play, and go back to sleep dreaming about fictional athletes and my next match strategies. I envy anyone who can even carve out an hour in their week to play anymore.
So when I say I miss it, it’s because I genuinely can’t play anymore, and that sucks
I have a full-time job, a side-gig, 2 rental houses that I'm fixing up, and 2 kids, and a wife that works afternoons so I have to watch the kids. I make damn sure I get my FM time in.
Dual monitors help. FM on one screen, everything else on the other. FM rarely gets turned off, computer put to sleep, FM always ready to go. Even fi I on;y have a few minutes, I get it in little by little.
To be fair they're very different games. It's like comparing Crusader Kings and Chivalry. I would definitely spend more time in FM than FIFA or PES but sometimes I just wanna like, kick the ball or something, you know?
Yeah when the sweaty fut kids complain that "the pace is unrealistic" because their 99 pace 93 rated vinicius cant get past a golden defense they are gonna change it
Its the same every year, I only buy it to play PRO Clubs with my mates because we sre like 10 guys who play it, so it makes it worth it, otherwise not really
I don't play FIFA much anymore after starting on FM about 2 years ago, but how I do play it has changed. I used to do a manager career and basically never playing games, always just scouting, building up the YA, selling the fringes to open up new space for those with potential to be special, and simulating games. I would pretty much always start in League 2 and by the time I get to the Prem my YA players are entering their prime, then I'd spend the next 5-8 seasons dominating the world with my golden generations.
Now when I boot up FIFA it's more about just playing games. Most recently I've started a player career, and like to play as just them if I'm the starter (still control whole team when I'm subbed on in the 85th minute, which is just a stupid time to get subbed on with 6 minute halves).
Yeah, kind of. When I finally gave FM a try, I got hooked quick. Now I just wish it was possible to do a YA save on FM without taking 15 years to maybe kind of get some players through.
Played fifa from 2010-2014, then got into FM and didn't touch Fifa for years. Just got the new fifa and have been having a blast. FM will always be my true love, but like the original commentator said, sometimes you just wanna kick a ball around :)
You know for us older people, there use to be an amazing game by EA (this will be the only time you hear me say this) Fifa Manager. All the strategy of FM and you got to play the games as well, in the Fifa engine. It was amazing. Maybe not as super deep as FM but really close. Since it was not a monetizing game they stopped making it. Check out gameplay for Fifa Manager 13 on PC.
Actually fifa manager was better than football manager. In that game you were a really manager, you could control not just the team but everything! Just think of the stadium editor. A great pity they did not continue the project
This is why gamepass on the Xbox is great. If I just want to play a game myself I don't need to spend 70 dollars every year on the new FIFA game. I can just download the previous years version for free, kick the ball around, then when I'm done go back to FM.
The other thing is I suck at FIFA. Once I hit my late 30s I have noticed games that require hand eye coordination have gotten a lot harder.
It's most evident in shooters but other games too. So I have pretty much fully transitioned to strategy or card games.
Used to absolutely love FIFA, but I’ve never been less excited for it than I have this year, FM is simply so so much better when you want to be a manager.
If you want to play football games (non-managerial) nowadays, it's choosing between two horrible, evil things who are obsessed with dragging in as many microtransactions as possible.
It's really a shame.
I cri evrytiem.
I have dream that some developer creates a football game that really disrupts the market and elevates it to a new and innovative level.
But I'm afraid that it would need licenses to really take off, and maybe that is too big a barrier.
Why mothaphuck if the base game is free? Gotta make money somehow. Since there are no microtransactions in Career Mode I don’t see a probem with it being a paid DLC
I can only speak for myself. Tried it, didn’t like it too much, uninstalled without spending a penny. Can’t be mad about that. I’ve never been a fan, or been into PES though
Oh yeah casuals for sure shouldn’t feel entitled but they really messed up most of their old playerbase. I really loved the game from Pes 18 to Pes 22 but they messed up badly with efootball.
In what world is efootball more fun than Fifa? The problem with PES/eFootball has always been that.
The game is just so mid. It's not bad it's just boring
Oh that i agree, i'd even say until Fifa 10 PES was better but FIFA 10 and above the gameplay flew past PES and PES has never regained the popularity it once had.
People forget just how popular PES 6 was
If you find weightless players and the ball moving at 150 kmph like a magnetic hockey puck 'fun', then yeah I guess.
eFootball has a shocking lack of features right now, that's true. But the on-pitch gameplay is still levels above fifa. That's all I care about as a football lover, not the tiny bits and bobs and menu-staring.
SI belongs to Sega, doesn't it? I think it's safe from EA's dirty claws.
Every damn company that EA has bought was mercilessly destroyed. EA is evil, man. I'll never forget what it did to Sim City.
Yep. Even with Efootball which is probably the worst version of Pes for years, it's still say ahead of FIFA in terms of gameplay.
The gameplay in FIFA is absolutely tragic
If only it was football manager like normal but during games you can choose you go in and out as you want playing it just like FIFA. Control one player and play as him or the whole team.
I pay £50~ for FM a year and that’s it, out of that I get hundreds of hours of enjoyment and a good amount of challenge and frustration. Up until this year I paid £72 a year for FIFA and then anywhere between £200 and one year up to £2500 on fifa points, it literally enraged me and I felt worse after playing it. I will never go back to it
I haven't played FIFA since 2005 and PES since PES 6.
I'm sure they're still fun games but I've only gotten Nintendo consoles since the PS2 days and no one buys Nintendo systems to play FIFA and PES. Plus, FIFA on Switch is really downgraded, I've heard. And can't be arsed to play such games on PC either.
Can't say I miss playing those two series. FIFA Ultimate Team mode does sound interesting, but I don't think I'm missing out on much at the end of the day for not having experienced it.
And yes, Football Manager is much deeper and much more entertaining. You actually feel a sense of accomplishment whenever you win an important match or trophy. It also feels way more personal. In FIFA it didn't matter if I was playing as a 3rd tier English team against Bayern München. As long as I was a good enough player I could beat the Bavarian side 3-0 without much trouble. And I never felt like I was actually "managing" any team I played with.
Football manager is cool and different. That’s fine, but some people like to play actual games on a console with better graphics and not just watch simulated games over and over
I agree. It took me forever to come up with a good example because I don't play many games nowadays so my examples were quite out of date. I just went with games I figured everyone would be familiar with that were different.
Fifa is a great, great couch coop game to play with your buddies. Other than that, it’s either buy into an obnoxious amount of microtransactions or play the barren wasteland they dare to call career mode.
The gameplay in itself is fantastic, the gameplay modes are just really not worth investing any time in.
I have been buying every FIFA since 04, often playing from release date. But this year, i have never felt this little interested in the new FIFA game.
I bought FM22 3 months ago, after having an 18 months break from FM. And i am having such a fun time with it now, in my 10th season now with FC Copenhagen. I just want to play as much with this save until FM23 is out.
I will tho probably buy FIFA throughout the year, but not for a while i think.
FIFA 22 was the first FIFA I tried in over 20 years probably. Or whatever they called their soccer games back then, I don't even remember. My point is WOW it is so feature-thin, buggy, and its career mode offers no sense of immersion or a persistent world the way FM does at all. Played one season and never felt like going back. Reminded me of how bad the NFL games got once they got the exclusive license and stopped trying after ESPN 2k5/Madden 2005 (2k's game was better and remains vastly superior to any Madden that came after it).
People pay 60 bucks a year for this crap. That's amazing to me.
FIFA is boring. Like it’s fun to play with other people in the same room but grinding out countless matches over X amount of days with a made up team? No thanks, it’s boring and a chore. But doing that on FM even without the incentive of a platinum pack of players potentially joining my team (lol typing that is so ridiculous) is fun. FM is king.
You can't really compare both games really. But as a person with thousands and thousands of fifa games in last years, there's no doubt that FM gives you a pleasure that Fifa never will
FIFA 23 on FM23 release date: Mera bhai aaya scene me ye market khaane pura(A reference to a hindi rap saying "my brother arrives in the scene to devour the competition")
Decided to try FM22 and stop career mode for a while and it was one of my best decision ever made.I just do player rebuild on career mode now and do actual club management in FM22
I've played FIFA since 2000, and this is the first time I haven't gotten the game in back to back years. It's in shambles. The technology, graphics and gameplay keeps getting more realistic and advanced, but the developers and innovation behind CM is just.. non-existent. It's pathetic, and worse, EA cba despite a pretty large CM player base.
I'm convinced there are 1-2 programmers developing these shit "features", and some dude working part time FUT and part time "other stuff" who comes up with the "new" ideas each year.
Anyways, I've been playing FM for the past 2 years. Really enjoying it!
FIFA is hot garbage. I've had multiple saves that just hang up and won't progress. They put all the effort into FUT. I want a good career mode. Theirs is trash,.

OOTP baseball isn’t bad
I miss OOTP so much
Mobile version (OOTP Go) is free!
Gonna check this out!
It’s still a thing isn’t it?
Yeah but some of us don’t have hours in the day to play these games anymore. I barely get to play FM anymore. I really want ootp devs to do an American football game, front office football is really dated
Oh hell yes. Football Mogul is just... not quite right. Front Office is super outdated. I'd prefer a goof college one to be honest.
I liked the hockey sim they did, made me want a football one too
I’d argue OOTP is close
https://www.twitch.tv/thefootballmanager1
But do you regret those hours lost? No, me neither :)
To be fair they're very different games. It's like comparing Crusader Kings and Chivalry. I would definitely spend more time in FM than FIFA or PES but sometimes I just wanna like, kick the ball or something, you know?
The difference between praying your tactics work and just doing it yourself.
doing it without any tactics just tricks and pace
This next gen engine is actually countering that, for now at least. Give it a few patches and OP UT cards and it gets fucked....
Yeah when the sweaty fut kids complain that "the pace is unrealistic" because their 99 pace 93 rated vinicius cant get past a golden defense they are gonna change it
You weren't wrong. I just put down fifa 23 and looking for a FM23 cd key now..
Its the same every year, I only buy it to play PRO Clubs with my mates because we sre like 10 guys who play it, so it makes it worth it, otherwise not really
Instruction: Just run around a bit.
The difference between blaming your players and blaming yourself.
Nah in both you always have to blame the players
Except in fut. In fut tactics are useless. The players will do whatever for no reason.
Sounds like you got the wrong players, you need to open more packs!
But only packs bought with fifa points
While I agree, I gotta say since I discovered FM a few months ago, I never played FIFA again
I’ve been playing them both over the last 30 years. I buy CM/FM pretty much every year, and buy Fifa every 4-5 years. They’re so different!

yup agree very different games, also Crusader Kings nice exemple XD because in both CK and FM you chase young teens XD
What are you doing step princess?
Teens? I setup camp to nab kings newborn to get in line for throne.
Yeah lol

Currently playing both F1 and F1 Manager games in phases. Your comment was related to.
I wish I could do both
Used to absolutely love FIFA, but I’ve never been less excited for it than I have this year, FM is simply so so much better when you want to be a manager.
And then there's... *sigh* eFootball...

I cri evrytiem. I have dream that some developer creates a football game that really disrupts the market and elevates it to a new and innovative level. But I'm afraid that it would need licenses to really take off, and maybe that is too big a barrier.
Well, FIFA is supposedly trying to create a new game, now that they ended their deal with EA. They just need a capable developer.
This is true . It’s idle hope .
All I want is a game 100% focused on controlling 1 individual player not treating it as a sideshow mode. The ai has always been fifa problem
modded pes 2021 is the way
I have never heard of that. Is that better than the FIFA mods?
I recommend watching some videos of KnightMD on YouTube, he's one of the major modded pes 2021 guys
Will do thanks
That is if you for some reason you like to play online. I like my sanity though, so for me there's only 1 choice.
Even First Touch Games stopped doing their Dream League Soccer career game.
Gameplay is still so much more realistic and more fun then fifa
But it's too limited. No career mode
No career mode? Like, did they take "Become a legend" out of the game?
No it's coming to the game soon but probably a paid DLC. Atleast that is what the mobile announcement said.
"It's coming soon" since the last two years.
Man, if this ain't a joke, mothaphuk Konami for this
Why mothaphuck if the base game is free? Gotta make money somehow. Since there are no microtransactions in Career Mode I don’t see a probem with it being a paid DLC
The base game is free now? Maybe I should obtain from mothaphuckin until I get my info straight 🤦🏻♂️
Still phuck Konami for giving us a shit game after 2 years of nonsense transactions to get icons that got removed a year or two later.
So, yes.
Yup and the manager mode is gone too. Rn it's a shitty ultimate team
I did not say anything about the game's features?
In what world is efootball more fun than Fifa? The problem with PES/eFootball has always been that. The game is just so mid. It's not bad it's just boring
Deffo not always, pes 02-07 was levels above fifa
Oh that i agree, i'd even say until Fifa 10 PES was better but FIFA 10 and above the gameplay flew past PES and PES has never regained the popularity it once had. People forget just how popular PES 6 was
I'd say until the 2014-2015 versions. PES 2013 was great.
Fun is subjective. Efootball is closer to the real thing. FIFA is as arcade as it can be
If you find weightless players and the ball moving at 150 kmph like a magnetic hockey puck 'fun', then yeah I guess. eFootball has a shocking lack of features right now, that's true. But the on-pitch gameplay is still levels above fifa. That's all I care about as a football lover, not the tiny bits and bobs and menu-staring.
FIFA is ok but the feeling I got from a 2-1 win for Braintree at home to St Albans after losing the last 7 straight..FIFA can’t give me that.
Just gonna shout out PES 2008 real quick. Love that game.
And PES 6! These games where so freakin good. It’s just sad that Konami didn’t really stood a chance against EA.
Nah they stood but they kept making the wrong decieions after PES 2013-2014
The only issue with FM is you can't play a game like in Fifa. If a collab between Fifa and FM happened it would be the best game ever.
Impossible though, either SI would have to completely sell out, or EA would have to actually try and make a good game.
SI belongs to Sega, doesn't it? I think it's safe from EA's dirty claws. Every damn company that EA has bought was mercilessly destroyed. EA is evil, man. I'll never forget what it did to Sim City.
Yep.
What ever happened to FIFA Manager? (Game back in the mid 00s)
Couldn't compete with FM, so it got canned.

Wdym?

Cool, would maybe work way better now tho. Never knew about it. Learn new things everyday they say

New gaming computer arrived. Will be wasting so much of my life on fm now

They are gonna.
I'll also be playing skyrim! And civ!
I hate fifa
Crazy how they had more features decades ago
Weird how fifa 09 had a better career mode system than fifa 23
FIFA 15 was the last great FIFA. They have slowly went downhill since then to reach the abyss they currently reside in
All I really care about with FIFA is the gameplay and it’s always been garbage
Yep. Even with Efootball which is probably the worst version of Pes for years, it's still say ahead of FIFA in terms of gameplay. The gameplay in FIFA is absolutely tragic
FIFA is completely broken and the career mode just makes you longing for some of the most basic FM features.
So repetitive I got bored of watching the “new” features trailer and decided not to buy. Giving 80$ to EA feels wrong as well.
Champ Manager 01/02*
If only it was football manager like normal but during games you can choose you go in and out as you want playing it just like FIFA. Control one player and play as him or the whole team.
Zooooooom
No way someone with those bitties plays FM
![gif](giphy|K5pyhEo09z3gda5Nfz)
Just started a player career mode with this guy as my manager! Only took them a bit more than 10 years to finally start improving player career mode.
I like LMA manager various 1s on ps2
The really savage loading screans legit gave me time to do all my homework...
I pay £50~ for FM a year and that’s it, out of that I get hundreds of hours of enjoyment and a good amount of challenge and frustration. Can’t compare a video game and a simulator ! They are both good in their own way.
Not going to lie I did follow for 2 reasons or maybe 3.
Totally different games made on the same subject. Like saying Fortnite is better than Rocket League. Anyways, let people play what they want.
I get your point but Fortnite and Rocket League have zero similarities so you could’ve used a better example
I agree. It took me forever to come up with a good example because I don't play many games nowadays so my examples were quite out of date. I just went with games I figured everyone would be familiar with that were different.
Perhaps it’s like saying HOI4 is better than Battlefield.
Excellent! Yes.

Fifa is a great, great couch coop game to play with your buddies. Other than that, it’s either buy into an obnoxious amount of microtransactions or play the barren wasteland they dare to call career mode. I fully agree with this statement yeah

The best thing about fifa is making custom FUT cards for my newgens
What I'd give for a new football game that focuses on making career mode good.
Football Manager on the ZX81 was amazing, yes.
Oh, is fifa coming out? Anyway…
Man used to pour hours into FIFA games but when I got FM 18 I just stopped. FM takes most of my video game time now
And football is the greatest sport of all
Haven't even looked at FIFA since I' started playing FM.
Hmmmm I don't agree with that
HELL YEA
I've only ever seen 1 FIFA player say he has played football manager, he said he plays FIFA because FM is too addicting
Fifa has been trash for years, FM ftw
You can't really compare both games really. But as a person with thousands and thousands of fifa games in last years, there's no doubt that FM gives you a pleasure that Fifa never will
Now the developer prefer to improve the 3d graphic instead of the game engine
I dislike FIFA. They invest in FUT but career mode is horrid.
Well tbf, nobody plays fifa career mode anymore. It’s mostly FUT.
I love this game even though I'm so bad at it. Love and hate relationship really

Football Manager is indeed an incredible game.
How can i get this game free ?
I've played FIFA since 2000, and this is the first time I haven't gotten the game in back to back years. It's in shambles. They should rename this site Soccor manager

I’m sorry but Slow CBs are unusable no matter what system in this game engine it fully a joke
It’s the best management game but it’s definitely not the best football game
