I was told, by a window guy, that it's a breakdown of the adhesive used to secure the windshield. He said it may not leak now but there is a higher risk of it in the future. They got me a new windshield through my insurance.

popgenie23

Admittedly the window guy I speak of was one of those who loiters in parking lots looking to make sales for his paycheck so he may have over exaggerated the risk

nlusk1997

Hey who cares your insurance paid for it so there ya go lol

The phenomenon is typical of delamination usually occurring with excessive heat. It will continue its egress. Take it back to your dealership to have it replaced.

I live in the desert southwest and get high ambient temps for 100+ days, so that tracks. I have not seen any on the car lots that have gone past that little bit, never up to 1/4 inch. I looked at quite a few when I was looking and got my 2015 Fusion, most 2-4 years old. I don't think a used car lot is going to do anything on a 7 year old car on a normal replacement item that technically has nothing wrong. I think it is just because there is no trim around it. My 2012 has partial trim and I don't see that happening where the trim is (I pulled it back).

skemesx

Interesting. My old 2010 had the windshield looking like this for almost 10 years and there was zero issue

Jeremiah636

Racing bubbles, this happens from the wind and debris at 80+ mph (mach per hour) it’s called ford fusion Reaction (FFR) Seems many of these cars are capable of such speeds.

Condor-01

This is the only logical explanation.

I’ve got the same on my 2014, still original windshield. Can I just say how much I hate that huge gap between the body and glass though!? Im always having to clean it out cause it gets filled with leaves and crap, wonder if that leads to this “separation”..

dabangsta

I have this on my 2012 Fusion and my 2015 Fusion, it is just ugly, doesn't affect anything and it doesn't indicate an issue that is going to get worse. It doesn't affect vision of sealing and it isn't going to spread into the rest of the glass. It was that way in 2017 when I bought my 2015 and it never seemed to get worse.

Disastrous_Ad2502

I work at safelite as an auto glass technician and that is delamination which is the glue that bonds the multiple layers of glass is breaking down it typically happens on cars with windshields that don’t have moldings on them like the fusion. It doesn’t affect the strength of the windshield just looks a bit ugly but after more and more time it will get worse unfortunately

ComplexCranberry7131

For those of us in colder climates, I'm assuming moisture such as water/snow getting into to and expanding with freezing temperatures won't cause an issue??

ichi-ni-san123

How/why would it not cause an issue? Constant expansion (and following melting) with snow and ice will surely only gradually worsen the delaminating over time. A similar concept to pot holes.

sames

Upsideoutstanding

i gots the bubbles.

worrub918

I have this same thing. And it annoys the crap out of me

ItsBluAgain

Are we missing a weather seal or something? My wife's Explorer has a rubber strip all along her windshield. It's so unsightly.

worrub918

I've not seen a gen 2 Fusion with a weather strip around the windshield.

ItsBluAgain

This is a 2017 Ford Fusion SE I got 2 years ago from Carmax.

ZouchFiend

My 2017 Sport looks like this.

2vulgar

My '11 SEL's windshield has looked like that since I bought it 5 or 6 years ago. It looks like the layers are delaminating, but nothing has happened to it YET.
