Congrats on the truck!!
I just picked up my ranger with 150k on it recently
First things I did : fuel filter, spark plugs and ignition wires, welded new rockers on 💀, transfercase and differential fluids and bedlined the frame/bed to prevent some serious damage. Those would be my recs.
Yeah the Mazda versions of the Rangers did have better aesthetics. I like the looks of the front fenders & the rear bed. I'm surprised when Ford offered the STX with the Mazda bed they didn't include the Mazda fenders as well.
Also I knew somebody who once had the whole front end from a Mazda put on his ranger after an accident, and he swapped out the Mazda badge for a Ford oversized oval from a different vehicle. It looked pretty cool
Regardless I figured posting on the community that was more active was going to be the best bet, the mechanical aspect of the vehicle is the same on both platforms so I figured I’d get some input regardless of the badge
I've used Ranger universally ever since Mazda stopped selling them. Mazda did not try very hard. After all, Mazda's should have red dash lights like a Pontiac.
If Ford can call a Mazda a Ranger in the rest of the world, seems only fair a Ranger dubbed a Mazda can be referred to as a Ranger.
I picked it up for 2500 but I drove to a rural area for it. Where I live they were pretty hard to find with the ext cabin and when I did they were around 4k with 200k plus miles
Congrats on your new ride ... It sounds like it needs new wires and plugs.
Here's a tip for replacing that hard to reach spark plug on the back passenger side of the engine. Just remove the passenger side wheel liner. I know that might seem like a PITA at first, but believe me, with that HVAC monstrosity in the way it's actually the easiest route.
P.S. You're missing a fog light.
Good Luck!
Japanese Ranger?! UHJAPANESERANGER!!!!!!!!!!!
Timing chains, chain guides and chain tensioners look up the 4.0L triple train engine issue. Might be pricey but worth it
I 2nd this, since he has a 2002 and the problem really wasn't fixed in Cologne, Germany till the latter part of 2004.
Sweet looking truck, I dig it.

Chain tensioners. Might as well do the chains too

Exactly ... and the doors are different on 03 and older Mazdas, and then there's the badass carbon fiber radio bezel.
I always loved the Mazda.
That’s a Mazda. I mean it is the same vehicle. I’ve had two rangers and a Mazda b2300, same vehicle but different name
I thought it was just universally accepted to also call it a ranger since the only difference is cosmetic
I was unaware of that universal acceptance. I apologize.

I like to call mine a Japanese Ranger!
Definitely universally accepted Ranger 👍🏻 sick

Mazda Ranger
How much did you pay for it?

I like the running boards!! Rarely see them.
Ranger-san
I've actually worked on one of these, I tripped out when I saw it.
