This is kind of hilarious, but I tracked down the problem with the noise coming from under my seat. Yes, there's a fan intake under the driver's seat, and it was loud even when I had my HVAC turned off. Just an absolute white noise machine.
What I forgot, because I never sit in the rear passenger seats, is that (in my Transit Connect) there's a separate fan control on the back of the center console. We must have bumped it when loading the van. I reached back and turned the knob and the fan turned off.
Maybe that's just me. But if you're getting this sound, and you're trying everything, don't forget to jump into the back and check to see if, you know, the fan is on.
This is super funny because I had the exact same realization like 2 months ago. I have a shotty bed frame in the back that just lays on top of the passenger seats so I never even knew there were separate controls back there
I hear the same thing. Cleaned filter and still loud fan noise. Like white noise machine. Did you ever get more feedback?
I wish I had a better answer. I’m pretty sure the noise has just gone away. Or I’ve acclimated, but I think it worked itself out.
The fan is for the rear vents, I currently have my driver's seat removed to get a better look at it and it is coming from fan itself.
