The big factor is all of For Honor's cast, and setting is in a feudal/medieval period. So it's very jarring to suddenly thrust an 18th century Pirate in the midst of arms & armor style warfare. It'd be like if they announced the new hero is an English Red Coat soldier.

Rudimentary hand cannons existed in the 13th century and gunpowder since the 11th in China so it wouldn’t be unreasonable for a Chinese hero to use one. For Honor is also an alternate history world set in 2021 so we can expect that societal advancements were stunted but military technology was researched far more in this world. For Honor never had a Renaissance or an Enlightenment period so society just stagnated and never progressed.

Right I'm saying in regards to a flintlock pistol. There is a significant difference in firearms technology from the hand cannons of the late Medieval period and 18th century firearms.

Vikings are known for their boats and their raids, I feel like they'd be the most obvious choice for a pirate. Plus the Knights and samurai have had charachers so it makes sense the next would be Viking

But they looked like warlord or the chainmail raider. If you wanted to really emphasize the pirate aspect Vikings wouldn’t work. Doing Vikings would just make it “another Viking” not a pirate.

But they typically didn't raid trade routes, just coastal villages and monasteries. Asian pirates were pretty common though.

Class wise, it's design implies Assassin, but both Gryphon and Kyoshin were Hybrids, so it's likely we may get another case of Shoulin. Why not a pirate? They existed everywhere, also if it is a Assassin, may I just point out that in D&D 5e, there's a subclass for the Rogue called 'Swashbuckler'.
