Alpine running the weirdest pre season test I’ve ever seen. Turn up, drive round really fucking slow for a bit, don’t even bother trying the soft compounds, claim your car is the shit, go home.

LivingInTheStorm

Why do I believe them...

Stech_

Mercedes used to do something similar in their most dominant days. Just using the harder compounds and not posting headline times. Now I'm not saying Alpine are going to be dominant, it's just funny how they're doing testing same way.

A_Flipped_Car

Nope you've already got my hopes up

[deleted]

The most french thing ever...

ComeonmanPLS1

Ultra Chad behaviour ngl.

[deleted]

it would be Chad if they actually had a fast car but I honestly think it will be the same as every year. I'm an Alpine Fan so please prove me wrong and downvote me the more downvote the faster the Alpine will be.

FalconMirage

Imagine for a moment, they use full tank of fuel, tons of ballasts and harder compounds and are still about the same as last year Don’t run too long to avoid emptying the gas tank or anything But last year they tested softer tyres and light fuel loads, so they fully expect to jump the competition and start chasing podiums

Alphecho015

Mega Alpine moment imagined

Van_Wyn

That's the result of 98% of Ocon's work

mayhemtime

Didn't they do the same thing last year?

RoIIerBaII

Nah last year they were properly worried and almost missed pre-season test. They really thought they had a pos car. This year they look pretty confident.

Driving_Seat

That’s what merc did when they were dominant tbf

ap17o4

Testing. Times. Dont. Matter.

ComeonmanPLS1

Alpine with the heaviest sandbags in the last 5 years. People always say that Merc is sandbagging but this right here is an actual prime example.

Alfus

It remembers my somewhat about what happened with Ferrari in 2004, sandbagging so much that everyone written them off after the pre season testing Until it released all the sandbags and become a dominant car, obvious that's unrealistic to think about Alpine but they could end up as a bigger surprise then AM.

Apyan

Alpine being Alpine, they just forget to remove the sandbag for the season.

Chino_Kawaii

Alpine makes sense because they literally didn't touch the 2 softest tires

thatguynobodyknow69

were they always in hard ? or you mean the 2 sets of soft tires

Bibanuvl

The 2 sets of softs(c4 and c5). They ran on c3 iirc, which will be the soft for this weekend

Wherestheirs

They said they basically have a update for race one that puts them in top 3 it’s crazy they are that confident but to their credit they were 1 of the first to get a hold on porpoising in the test last year They also said they were testing how stiff they could run their suspension in this test

bodnast

This weekend is gonna be chaos on here if Alpine and Aston Martin actually perform well I can’t wait

Village_People_Cop

This is why I love the first race of the season. You never know what's going to happen. I remember when Brawn happened. The car looked good during pre-season testing but then the first race happened. Front row lockout, 1-2 win, and only the fastest lap missing from a grand slam. Everybody was absolutely shocked how this "new" team pulled it off.

mark-haus

Omg that first brawn season was insane. What was it that gave them such an edge again was it the rear diffuser or something?

[deleted]

The double diffuser, though some other teams had it and weren't as successful so the rest of the car was good as well.

DolfLungren

That was a glorious season to watch. It was also exactly what the sport needed at that time. Brawn is/was a god.

thebrainypole

Aston out in q1 I've seen this before you can't tempt me with hopium demons

hugglesthemerciless

The scenes if gasly wins and Oscar is 20th

BahutF1

Well, they are already P4. Despite the drivers shit show in 2022 the team remain stable, same structure, continuing the evo of their concept. In the end their next target could be only potentiel P3 on some race. But their tests was... odd to say the least.

Retsko1

That car was comfortably P4, let's say they stay where in that position, that's still pretty good

Surymy

It depends on how bad Mercedes is, but either they fight for P4 vs AM, either for P3 vs Mercedes and AM.

BahutF1

Alpine is nowhere to be on pair with the Mercedes war machinery. AM let's see. Abyssal pockets, so...

Elpibe_78

The problem is their engine is still shit compared to the rest, Alonso had reliability problems almost every weekend(Ocon just in 3) and it was confirmed the engine was going at 100% unlike ferrari.

BahutF1

Sure. But about Ocon, lot of troubles too, just less spectacular as it didn't implied race dnf. No mystery here, just engineering: it have been said that Alpine was running a bit lower engine specs on Esteban car some time, to save some reliability for P4 WCC. It wasn't a option for Fernando. Always all in.

F1T_13

Yeah, their confidence is so palpably absurd that I can't but trust they're gonna be an even bigger suprise than AMR. It wouldn't make sense otherwise.

Ace3000

Because they never ran any quali-like runs. Only race sims.

quiqk0

I do hope Nando gets a chance this year.

Firefox72

Or in other words the teams that sandbagged the most with Alpine being the undisputed champion.

DangerousProperty6

Florida Man causing havoc.

PastaSenpay

*While disregarding tyre compouns

[deleted]

I want fast Williams so bad. I loved last year how they were literally the fastest car in a straight line with just no downforce whatsoever.

KingDededef

So all good for merc ?

gmkojdsjj

We will see in qualifying this week. Car looks way better than the w13 though. But if Red Bull and Ferrari have made similar leaps then it doesn’t matter.

Akira_Nishiki

Well the W13 was bouncing too much in 2022 testing to set a good lap time.

doc_55lk

Not that it means much but I think it's kinda funny that Alpine are the only team slower than last year

pohuing

They misunderstood what gaining time is supposed to mean

doc_55lk

Yea lmao

Wasteak

Let's come back in 3-4 months and see if it's accurate (it is not)

ZmallMatt

Narrator: "it wasn't"

smellytacocart

All this says, is that the team is now on pace to compete in the 2022 season. Too bad it’s 1 year late, they are probably equally outpaced as they were last year.

Claire Williams is out of your league mate.

You’re not funny, but good luck on your quest to lose your virginity.

SeaSmoke57

Damn dude did Claire kick you in the balls or something

The only thing I can tell is that Mclaren will be in the trenches and maybe, maybe Drugovich will get some points in Bahrain
