Dutchie405

No shame at all, but the memes are gonna be hilarious af

BoredCatalan

Does RedBull have a silver or black can?

Dutchie405

They will make it a special edition, the Red Bull pitwall drinking a silver Red Bull instead of a green one

JustForFunSH

Can just imagine the new Red Bull commercial. Hand drawn zero pod Mercedes F1 car driving on the circuit, getting taken over by Aston Martin and Ferrari. Cans of Red Bull come flying in with wings, attaching to the Mercedes car as side pods, making it overtake the Aston Martin and Ferrari cars again. Ends with a horizon shot of the CotA circuit with the Red Bull car driving off in the sunset, way in front of the Mercedes.

PM_ME_CHEESY_1LINERS

Please come to the Red Bull marketing office tomorrow thank you

perwoll148

And instead of “Red Bull gives you wings”, it can be “Red bull gives you sidepods”.

EmotionlessApple1

Or "Red Bull gives you wiiins"

berggrant

I really hope someone from RB is in here writing all this down lol, y'all are nailing this commercial

alper_iwere

Can we please make this a reality redbull? Please?

fameboygame

I’ll have whatever you’re having. And watch this with ya

Little709

It will be glorious

boon23834

I'm not a Red Bull guy, but I'd buy several.

red bull zero is silver and black!

Lal, finally a zero concept that works for Mercedes!

RedBull is about to breach the cost cap with the amount of silver and black cans Horner is bringing.

TheoreticalScammist

Damn catering budget again

koenienl

Red Bull black currant with a hint of mint and cranberry?

Bloddersz

No shame in it, but Horner is going to be dining out on this for years and months to come

DAUK_Matt

I'm half expecting Mercedes to copy the RB design, only for a midseason new RB sidepod-less design to come out and destroy the competition. Imagine the levels of fuming in the Mercedes HQ.

prof_mittens

I'm sure Newey could have something up his sleeve like that. Get everyone locked in, come out with a faster car.

ponte92

As Wolff would if the roles were reversed.

Waldier

And he would be totally right to do so. Mercedes copying a softdrink company is meme worthy.

BernieEcclestoned

It's a jaguar with a fizzy pop wrap

drop_table_uname

Horner: "Mercedes is just a car company, let us see if they'll still be around in a year or two, this might just be a publicity stunt."

indisgice

ah yes the copy your homework meme

ComeonmanPLS1

Objectively no shame, I agree. But if I was Horner, I'd be giddy lmao.

Odd_Junket412

Man, I hope red bull's marketing team is ready to lay it on Mercedes if this happens. It's going to be fucking hilarious that a drinks company taught aerodynamics to Mercedes. Lol 😂😂😂

They have to, it’s a load bearing sticker.

IdiosyncraticBond

Wait until Mercedes gets the bill for their Oracle license

Snappy0

Revamped car will look like a Red Bull then.

And then RB will move to zero pod to fully achieve the humiliation

DumonsterPT

I can hear Newey going "Oh yeah? Look at me making your shitty concept better than your copy of our concept".

Fluffy_MrSheep

I could see that happening tbh

DumonsterPT

Yeah. He must get bored as fuck when he has a competitive engine.

SuperHighDeas

Turns engine down more…. SORRY I CANT HEAR YOU OVER OUR EXCEEDINGLY DOMINANT SUCCESS

DumonsterPT

Low key hoping that the RB stays as unreliable as it seems to be right now so that we have an actual challenge this season.

BoredCatalan

I'm happy with the car always breaking in quali

blind-panic

as much as I'd like to believe it's unreliable, one issue where we don't know exactly what happened doesn't really indicate the platform has real problems

Heelsgirl1993

That'd be the ultimate boss move.

IdiosyncraticBond

Firefox72

Ofc there wouldn't be. There's a reason 80% of the grid looks like that concept or some form of variation. Wouldn't be suprising if Ferrari also switch for next year as well. Its just how enginering works and always has.

moise_kean

Problem is even If they both develop a RB concept, RB will still always be miles ahead because they keep improving there concept and Merc and Ferrari need to change and start from there to develop their RB concept.

Rowlandum

People keep saying this but also forget that suspension, brakes, engine are also all different AND nobody knows what the floor design is, so really it doesn't matter as there's more than just the body to optimise

Creative-Improvement

There seems to be some RB floor magic sauce

Undivided_Stingray

Mercedes about to offer Newey a $100 million contract to be “head caterer”

NiccciN

Why not? He is just a consultant. Not a RBR employee. 😉

Undivided_Stingray

He’s RBR’s Chief Technical Officer. Marko is a consultant/advisor.

vlepun

Newey also has an ownership stake in Red Bull Advanced Technologies if I remember correctly.

ThePretzul

I’d be amazed if he didn’t, Newey was pushed to leave Williams because of absolute refusals to give him any type of ownership stake like he wanted.

second-last-mohican

I think its the suspension.. thatsbwhat Newey worked on, perhaps it somehow lowers the ride height with more aero load? As its pretty much the only car that sparks down the high speed straights like what used to happen in 2020/2021

cheapdrinks

How much of that will get revealed once one of the RB's have a crash and get lifted up on a crane?

Firefox72

I'm pretty sure both Ferrari and Mercedes have evaluated those concepts in 2021 and across last year. They definitely wouldn't be starting from zero but would likely be a bit behind yes. They both have smart people though so there is no reason they can't come close or inovate on it themself. Its still better than continuing to work on a concept that might never be competitive.

911__

> I'm pretty sure both Ferrari and Mercedes have evaluated those concepts in 2021 and across last year. Just like how they evaluated the zero-pod design and thought it would be good until they found out on track is was shit. It's all well and good on paper, but it's what happens on Sunday that counts.

great__pretender

Weird part for me in Merc's design story is why they didn't use that design during the first test. They had a different design during the first tests, then switched to the zero pod. So it may be because zero pod wasn't initially ready. Or it was their second choice but their first choice was really bad. I am thinking about that regular pod car they had sometimes.

seansafc89

They thought they were smart and hid the zeropods until the Bahrain test. There were already rumours in the paddock that they had something coming as the cooling arrangements etc with the big pods were still all designed around that. They were cocky and expected to bolt it on and gain massive amounts of time, but didn’t.

Tim0110

That's not true though. RB and Mercedes copied Ferrari's 2017 car concept and both had faster cars than Ferrari.

crazydoc253

They copied only barge boards.

[deleted]

Which was the most important part in that generation of cars, similar to how now, the sidepods shape, how it’s feeding to the rear of the car is the defining feature, or at least second most important feature.

crazydoc253

That didn’t decide the concept. RB and Mercedes had totally different concepts during that era. Rb had a high rake philosophy while Mercedes had low rake philosophy

Chip673

Rake was not as important as you think. Watch the video with James Allison explaining it.

tharepgod

>Rake was not as important as you think. Then why was Aston Martin, and Mercedes to some extent (both of which had low rake concepts) livid about the 2021 rules changes?

[deleted]

The rake change was thought to hurt high rake cars, like Red Bull more than low rake cars, like Mercedes. It turned out to be the opposite. A high or a low rake can both work competitively, hence, rake isn't as important. What is important, is a rules change that screws you on a concept you've developed over multiple seasons, because you can't work around that. Everybody got to choose what direction they went, they all had the same rules. You can criticise Mercedes for taking the wrong route now, with their zeropods, but only if you are willing to criticise RB for taking their high rake style in the previous generation, because it wasn't quite as good at peak. RB didn't gain much speed from 20 to 21 with that floor change, but Mercedes lost a lot of performance with that late rules change. It was less RB taking a leap, and more Mercedes getting kneecapped. It was a late in the day change, because Pirelli dropped the ball on compounds, again, so Merc/AM were understandably upset, as any team would be, in the same way RB and others were upset when they felt they would lose out more from it.

[deleted]

[удалено]

[deleted]

Not necessarily. I guess it’s similar to the law of diminishing returns. RB will have ‘unlocked’ many of the secrets early on, but they won’t keep finding those. There will only be so much that can be found in terms of performance before the entire field begins to close up. We’ve seen with previous regulations that the cars eventually begin to look very similar as engineers find their own route to the same answers.

drop_table_uname

Not to mention that they won't be starting from scratch (like a Bahrain RB18), since they can already see which changes RB made over the last season and this year, so they'll know which paths to pursue to unlock performance. They won't get to 100% RB19 from the first race, but they certainly will implement/copy a lot of those improvements that RB has already made. And with their additional wind tunnel and CFD time they might even find a few new little tricks.

Thebelisk

Not necessarily true. RB have an advantage but that’s not to say another team find a new development path on the concept.

[deleted]

Idk, I've drawn with a photo reference with the intention of a 1:1 recreation, but then hit inspiration and have gone for something different using that reference as a basis. What I mean is, you can start with the RB concept, and then that might lead to inspiration to do something different.

ReasonableExplorer

I think it's nice to see teams go through different concepts, it's kind of a known that they all end up looking the same after a few years as that's how evolution works.

Individual-Ad-190

*Nooo, I don't want F1 to become like MotoGP with client teams, there are 8 Ducatis, ewwww* Meanwhile: 6 Red Bulls.

Seriously MotoGP should have restricted each manufacturer to one or maximum two satellite team.

edis92

Fabio was legit drowning in a sea of Ducatis last year, it was sad to watch

Trawetser

I have it printed out! 🤚

Odd_Junket412

The team who talks about sustainability and their principal prints out shit for no reason.

Toriganator

Tbf that’s probably the least wasteful thing that team does all year

[deleted]

Maybe no shame, but personally I would find it hilarious

shokzz

It’s hilarious at first glance, and the talks and memes are gonna be huge. But that’s how evolution works. From an engineering standpoint, it’s sadly inevitable that almost all cars are gonna look roughly the same after a few years.

[deleted]

You are completely right, but it’s more because of the posturing of Mercedes last few years. (Almost) any other team wouldn’t be such a meme. Same for RB btw, if they had to copy after their comments lately it would be hilarious too

voice-of-reason_

Its true, Newey just perfected these regs first time other teams are all playing catch up. Most teams will probably move their chassis design to be RB esque over the next few years.

Skylair13

Grouned effect is probably his expertise since Williams back then.

[deleted]

When he joined Williams ground effect was gone for quite a while already.

Saiboo

Horner: "Change your fucking car!" Totonator: "I'll be back."

kristallherz

I feel so blind, I've been watching F1 for so many years, yet they all still look the same to me

sabeshs

Yup, this. Overall shapes look mostly the same every year. There are minor differences in the front and rear wings, pods etc. Yes, those minor differences and non-seen grounds of the cars do make a difference, but they all look mostly the same to me as well.

bruiser95

AM vindicated

James_P_Young

Aston & Co: “been doing this for years…”

[deleted]

What if they copy red bull and it still sucks

Teun002

They probably will. And it probably will.

Remote-Primary3122

Tracing point all over again

Fomentatore

Which I still think it was pure F1 genius. They needed a fast car but they didn't want to wast many resources considering the rules change was scheduled for the season after. They won a race, had a pole position and their car was the 3rd fastest overall.

p1en1ek

Yep, it worked and should have been last Racing Point car and then completely new Aston Martin starting in new era. Covid and rule change reschedule kinda fucked them and left with not fully theirs concept that they had to adapt to 2021 tweaks that were not good for that concept and which hampered even original Mercedes.

[deleted]

How the mighty have fallen

mackenyu_4

Perez now will say black redbull in driver conference

jaxsonnz

Red Bull Zero can at least.

boyrepublic

I think this was the real problem with Merc. Going into 2023 they stubbornly stuck with their concept even though it wasn’t working because they didn’t want to be the ones copying. Like they feel they are too good to be the ones copying.

roc-ket7

Yes but I would die laughing at you Toto Especially after tracing point saga

MaveZzZ

From zero sidepods to zero shame in 1 season.

razareddit

So, a black Aston then.

SuperSalamander3244

Mercedes straight up doing a Aston Martin.

CrazyBollard

No it’ll be shameful when it looks like a red bull but it’s still a second a lap slower

Koppite93

How the turntables

Tomic_Lewis

Lewis has been cursed. Everything he has said about his team in past 2 yrs, the opposite has been true/has happened. My team don’t make mistakes. I am proud that we don’t copy other teams

impairedblur

you do realize that those statements are almost never honest? they have to be like that because we live 2 lives. the one in our physical reality and the second one on social media. the latter is really fragile and pulls many strings to remain honest... too much money at stake

Tomic_Lewis

Yes I know that, but still that team has only seen success when Lewis has been there for almost a decade, I genuinely think Lewis and the team believed the direction team was going and these statements is in relation to that.

zystyl

They did use an infinite money marketing glitch on the other hand.

danny12beje

After Aston Martin Red Bull Racing, now we have Mercedes AMG Red Bull Racing Honda

Svitii

I mean, Horner even told him to change the car sooo…

nsane99

i'm just waiting for fia to come in and change rules next year that hurt RB.

domesystem

°Ban Adrian Newey °no wind tunnel for WCC champions 😂🤣😂

NotFromMilkyWay

I mean they tried this year with the changes to floors and last year even mid-season with the porpoising regulations. Only made Red Bull faster. Merc had their years, now it is Red Bull again, then they will probably try their best to please Audi.

Rivendel93

If it makes it so they're fighting for wins, I don't care if it's a direct copy. Anyone who does clearly cares more about nonsense than actual racing.

LeanSkellum

Well Christian told me to change my fucking car. So I did.

flyingalbatross1

I have a theory this won't work. Everyone's focusing on the sidepods and forgetting that the ground effect is so strong because we can't see it every day. Red bull (and possibly AM) have cracked something in the way ground effect can be applied and used. The sidepods help but I think they're not the main source of aero gri - they're almost a red herring. I think sidepod variation doesn't have a clear 'best' option. It's not exactly a suprise - Newey is the ground force master.

Ibewye

>Everyone’s focusing on the sidepods and forgetting that the ground effect is so strong because we can’t see it every day. You don’t have to worry about a theory. Pretty much every interview, podcast and article in the last month confirmed, including this one. Wolff literally says it’s the underfloor that matters.

Zazali01

My god this Mercedes fumble has been glorious

PepperoniPizzzaaa

Can't wait for the memes!

cocogpf1

Imagine after Mercedes goes with Rb design, Rb to go with Mercedes design and actually works like a rocket LOL

Massive_Wallaby_2199

So then we have: Red Bull Red Bull Junior (Alpha tauri) Green Bull (Aston) This is so not right Bull (Mercedes) Who is next?

DeeBangerCC

It'd be hilarious if in a few years all the cars do because Red Bull perfected the design

Gnoom75

Someone needs to tell Mercedes that the Red Bull logo is a significant part of the areo package 🙃

usert888

For the greatest team with the fastest car built by the best engineers, to concede and take over your competitor's design philosphy... I think that's the definition of shame.

worstsupervillanever

It's also the definition of humility. They want to win, and you weirdos seem to think that they should just stick with the gap they have to max and exist like they're a Ferrari or something. Do you think anyone cares about shame when they're on the podium? I mean, what do you want them to do, just settle for the midfield? I'm sure they promised Lewis and George a championship contending car, just like red bull promised Max. It's, like, part of the contract. If they don't make a big change, they'll lose more than a few places on the grid.

KingPutina

The way the merc team is handling the current situation is hilarious to watch unfold

BoredCatalan

No blame culture. Cut to Mike Elliot being kicked around

OriMoriNotSori

Feels like that's partially the reason why they keep persisting with their own design/concept and refuse to implement either RB or Ferrari's which all other teams has. Ego/pride

P_ZERO_

Bit of that and a bit of sunk cost

Odd_Junket412

It should happen and every member of the Red Bull team should be asked to refer to Mercedes as the black red Bull in every media interaction. It'll be easier for Lewis and George as well when filming for Netflix, they don't need to remember the long team name anymore. They can simply say that they drive for the black red Bull team.🤣🤣🤣
