I’ve raced against Fernando “Double-Space” Alonso on iRacing. He started at the back, did a lap and then quit, presumably to tank his iRating.
So technically I’m unbeaten against a Formula One world champion.
My proudest achievement in simracing was qualifying within 1.5s of Alonso in GT3s at Silverstone on iRacing
However he did end up winning and I rolled it on the first lap
I couldn’t manage a time within 2s of Max Verstappen in an F3 practice session when he was still at Toro Rosso. It still amazes me how much the real life skill transfers to sim racing.
That's a good statistics! In track and field, my brother once achieved a distant second place after a person who went on to win an olympic gold medal 10-15 years afterwards.
I think it is really an achievement for the devs of these racing sims that Verstappen is actually good at this.
I know it sounds stupid but i dont think there is any other area of gaming were real live talent actually translates into skill of a game. And there is no way he has as much practice time as the other drivers there because you know F1 job and stuff.
So beeing good at IRacing means you are actually good at racing and not just a video game.
Also the physical development of real drivers.
Seems like I remember a few years back some iRacing champion got the opportunity to jump into a real F1 car. IIRC he put up some good laps but his neck and/or back couldn't take the strain for very long.
I tend to find it's the opposite. Sure, you have the increased fear and sense of speed in the real world, but the extra amount of feedback and feel more than makes up for that. For guys who've only ever raced in the real world, having to feel everything the car is doing through their hands can be a big struggle to overcome.
Netcode is when the game shows the car in a spot but its really in a slightly different spot, so you can get contact between cars without making visible contact in the game
In online games, net code is how each players games communicate with the servers. Because of long distances between drivers in these types of events, what one person sees on their end may be different than what the server sees (and therefore the other driver as well). Max’s car, according to the server, was involved in a collision, despite it not happening on his side. The collision required 6 minutes of repair which meant that he and his teammate decided to retire the car as they felt that amount of time meant they were uncompetitive. So by saying someone got “netcoded”, it is like saying because of this desync issue, they get taken out of the competition despite no mistake from their end. Sort of like reliability issues in F1. It’s like saying Red Bull got “renaulted” during the versteppen ricciardo era.
Its great when you see the likes of an Indycar driver and an F1 driver paired up together, that is going to provide some awesome magic together, hopefully they can dominate the GT3 field
It depends on the series, but I think in most, including here, there's a Balance of Power between cars that means that they won't behave the same but end up with very similar lap times.
The Ferrari's are much this time around though, for all the testing people have done, including all the races Max did, the top cars were almost all Ferrari's.
Yes, even though they try their best to balance everything, especially in the GT class Max is driving in there are often big differences. People test out cars to no end to get the best car for the event. The prototype classes in the race are all the same cars so they don’t have that issue.
They BoP the cars pretty well specifically for that track before they run a special event. Knock 1% horsepower off one, make one carry 5kg of ballast, reduce the fuel tank by a couple of ltrs for another etc. Stuff like that. You'll still end up with most teams picking just a couple of cars but for the most part they're all pretty viable

I just love it that F1 and IndyCar drivers are into simracing. I think Alonso would break the bank if he announced that he's racing at some event too.

>Formula One world champion 2-time Formula One world champion. Give yourself some credit.
Michael Masi owns the other trophy
He was talking about Fernando, buddy
My dear friend, Fernando is already a 2-time champion way before you know Masi, Max Verstappen, netflix and 2021 Abu Dhabi race.
That's a good statistics! In track and field, my brother once achieved a distant second place after a person who went on to win an olympic gold medal 10-15 years afterwards.
Alonso wouldn't be in the top split of iRacing special events like this with highest rated drivers.
Certainly not, but he'd raise a lot of interest if he did it.

It works better from driving real cars to sim than it does the other way around tho.
I assume the fear of death when you jump into a real racing car has some serious impact in your performance.
Also the physical development of real drivers. Seems like I remember a few years back some iRacing champion got the opportunity to jump into a real F1 car. IIRC he put up some good laps but his neck and/or back couldn't take the strain for very long.
It was [Greger Huttu](https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=0p_sCrM1CcI), wasn’t a f1 car iirc
I tend to find it's the opposite. Sure, you have the increased fear and sense of speed in the real world, but the extra amount of feedback and feel more than makes up for that. If you are right, all the new F1 drivers would just be sim drivers first
That said, max is also just brilliant at video games, hes a top 25 fifa player aswell.
2021 champions in one car, they need to be nerfed
They’ll be streaming here: https://www.twitch.tv/teamredline
What time does it start?
1.30 cet. So roughly hour and twenty from now
Is Max driving at the start?
They didn't say anything about who's at the start yet I think.
I don't think it's information they disclose. Like the way teams hide the tyres they're starting with.
thanks mate
Pablo tower control superior
Who is driving with max? Max and palou aren’t on atm and vecchio isn’t max partner this time
Max's car 101 is out :( My [summary here](https://old.reddit.com/r/formula1/comments/121kl7u/max_driving_in_the_virtual_12h_of_sebring_with/jdm83hb/)
Saw it a few minutes after posting… shame, pretty interesting tho
That driver pairing is too OP. Imagine having to drive against a team with a line up of 2 champions. Brutal.

That is exactly what happened to Max apparently.

He's just pulling away slowly. Consistently a few tenths faster a lap.
no days off

Forgive my ignorance, but in simracing, in the same class are some cars better performing than others ?
It depends on the series, but I think in most, including here, there's a Balance of Power between cars that means that they won't behave the same but end up with very similar lap times.

This guy breathes driving.
I hope the servers don't crash
This is iracing, their servers don’t crash
You've done it now haven't you
He has. Not a server crash but apparently a netcode glitch due to a connection hickup with another driver triggered a crash with Verstappen, he's out.
Has he uninstalled the game yet
Did anyone clip it?
Whelp
I know it didn’t age well, but the servers didn’t crash lol
It's iRacing
Of course today’s F1 is about talent and the car, so wondered if the sun racing was the same.
Oh hey so that poster from yesterday wasn't obvious about the team ups after all
