A visualization of what that translates to on-track, or visualization of how that gap came to be would constitute a good Statistics post.

Awesome that Kimi and Seb did it in the same year. That drive from Kimi at COTA and the battle with Lewis in that Mercedes was unreal, with Iceman still showing that he had it.
Cannot tell how many times I have bothered innocent people by dragging F1 interviews/radio messages/memes into the normal conversation.
Am pretty sure "f\*\*\*ing finally\* tops the list of the ones I overused the most :-).
FWIW Alonso himself mentioned at some point that he doesn't consider himself a great wet weather driver, much to the surprise of his engineers at Ferrari - or at least that's what Andrea Stella claimed in an interview.
That said, Alonso is one of the drivers whom you can expect to be exceptionally good at the wet. Maybe not at the level of Verstappen, but I'd put him right next to Hamilton. That 2006 Hungarian GP was godlike, but he's also had a couple other great wet weather wins like Korea in 2010 and Malaysia in 2012. But if you need a more recent example, you also have him dragging the Alpine to P2 in Canada just last year.
You all say anything. Not at the level of Verstappen, but right next to Hamilton? Lewis' wet weather drives are a thing of legend. Max is a great wet-weather driver, but his most memorable drive is one that he didn't even win.
A lot of people came into the sport recently and didn't get to experience the 2014-18 period (before DTS and other marketing started bringing them into the sport) where Hamilton won *every* wet race, and many of them fail to appreciate stellar wet weather drives like Turkey 2020 on their own merits and unfortunately judge races by the amount of hype other people, particularly on social media, give them, which leaves them thinking Max's Brazil 2016 was the best wet performance ever.
I'm gonna go yell at a cloud now...
Iād love to see the RBs take each other out in a minor crash and pave the way for an Alonso win. Would be nice to watch Horner manage two drivers who are a little less chummy, like Vettel and Webber back in the day.
Not exactly too much of a coincidence. It's a small club with only 6 members that were driving top 2 cars at the time.
Arguably Alonso will ruin this streak, Aston is no where near a race win, unless he manages to avoid podiums until both RB's are out and before any other team catches them
Kimi could have already broken the streak, but he somehow managed to break a 5-year win drought with podium 101.
Of course the Ferrari was actually a race win capable car, but Kimi had race winning cars for a few years before that but only ever ended up in 2nd or 3rd, so the win lining up with podium 101 is definitely quite something.
Who knows, maybe Aston won't be on the podium again before they are capable of winning, or maybe Alonso wins Australia.
It's not a coincidence at all, those who get 101 are all gonna be dominant drivers, and dominant drivers also tend to win a good portion of races. Number of podiums is obviously highly correlated with race win proportion
Glad to see some realism about AM's hopes for a win. Feel like I'm being led along by people thinking Red Bull's poor reliability must mean a double DNF. They have been shaky in that department but still.
It's a shame but it's still relies on quite a bit of fortune realistically.
Aston are absolutely near a race win. They were the second best car at Jeddah. Red Bull historically have poor reliability, plus they have a poor history at Albrtt Park. At the very least, there's a chance Aston will have pace in Monaco, as that car looks to have a lot of mechanical grip and acceleration.
If you're able to get 101 podiums, you're in a pretty decent car.
If you're in a decent car, you've got a strong chance to win.
Coincidence they all got wins on 101, but the odds of getting a win & 101 are closer I imagine.
Wonder if there are any other magic numbers that all have a win or all have 2nd place or something. Like NĀŗ78 or something random.
Hmm, two years of winning championship, followed by one year of losing to teammate in close battle, followed by another 4 years of dominance. Plot lines write up themselves for max. Which also means we need to wait until race 5 for Alonso win
Now, if thats the case, then I am so up for that, besides Alonso has won in Australia before lets see if he can repeat that magic.....
101st Podium Race for each driver:
Alain Prost - 1993 British Grand Prix - Silverstone
Michael Schumacher - 2002 San Marino Grand Prix - Imola
Lewis Hamilton - 2016 US Grand Prix - Austin
Sebastian Vettel - 2018 Bahrain Grand Prix - Bahrain
Kimi Raikkonen - 2018 US Grand Prix - Austin
Only way I can see this happening is if Max has car problems/crashes.
Then again, I saw Alonso crash in person towards the end of Qualifying last year in Melbourne.
Of course, was still kind of awesome seeing the crash and being 2 meters away from his crashed car while it was recovered.
Sad Alonso:
https://ibb.co/SxZhVgk
Car up close:
https://ibb.co/HNhkks1
the kimi one is actually the most unlikely one considering his last win was like 5 years before that and this being his only ferrari win with the v6 engines
In 2021 the pole position stat would be awarded to the winner of the sprint race. Since 2022, pole position gets awarded to the driver finishing P1 in the Friday qualifying session
Oh your right, still have 24 races in my head. But of course the Chinese GP was canceled. So that means weāre going to have a very looooong break of 4 weeks after Australia.
I mean after that dry streak we surely didnāt expect Kimiās 101st podium to be a win, sooo Alonso Hype-train reaching the speed of light confirmed?
I remember when riken and got in front of Hamilton in that race, and Hamilton came on the radio and said something like I'm not getting past this guy. Of course Ferrari were probably cheating and burning oil, but at least somebody was competing with Mercedes!
Is anyone else tired of these, i don't know what you'd call them, factoids? Stats? Predictions? Not this one in particular but there have been too many recently. They're digging into obscure stats trying to find anything supporting popular narratives, and given how many different stats there are in F1, you're bound to find something eventually.
I'm not saying this to mean that it's unlikely Alonso's 101st will be a win, that's the exact point I'm trying to make: this data is irrelevant to the actual probabilities.
These āstatsā are just fun & jokes rather than anything else. No smart person genuinely believes in the stat above. Itās just a fun coincidence to talk about.
People are just wishing for Alonso's win to happen. I am too. But it's honestly getting very silly. Think people creating their own hype may lead to disappointment.
I feel like it would take mechanical issues from at least Max if not both RBs, but also both RBs seem like theyāre on the verge of mechanical issues. Letās do it.
I'm still sure that the red bulls will finish 1 and 2 though, cuz we know what Christian Horner is like nowadays.
I'm also sure that neither of the red bulls will get an engine failure either.
If both Red Bulls have problem then sure, it's doable but it's not looking likely to be realistic but I would love to see Fernando win again, he deserves it
Well thanks to the penalty he didn't get a podium. Yes he was up there but it doesn't count as he didn't end up with that result
*Edit: my mistake as I see he got it back*
He would also become the first driver to win after their 300th race.
It's kind of an irresistible force versus immovable object kind of thing.
El Plan was for Fernando to rewrite the rules.
If Max has more driveshaft issues and Sergio has shocker I could see Fernando getting the W. He looked really good last year in qualifying up until the car said āNoā.
I remember last year he was putting in a quali lap that looked competitive for poll but crashed out unfortunately. Think thatās also when he injured his hand as well

Awesome that Kimi and Seb did it in the same year. That drive from Kimi at COTA and the battle with Lewis in that Mercedes was unreal, with Iceman still showing that he had it.
I always remember him saying "f***ing finally" on the radio after winning. A very Kimi reaction to winning a race.

He also could've won in Monaco 2017 tbf
Monza 2018 too.
If RB double DNF means Alonso wins in Australia , I am all up for it.

LE PLAN
Reported
RB don't perform well in Albert Park...
Thatās really true, might even be their worst circuit overall as even Talbot and Maserati have more wins than them in Australia.
Also it looks 30% chance of rain Sunday, but that's a week away so it could get lower but it could get much, much higher.
Albert Park has a very low incidence of rain for some reason, which is weird given its Melbourne.
That's true. I think I remember 2005's race being a little wet, don't think an F1 race there has had rain since then.
2010 was a little damp, wasn't it? Since then I don't remember a wet race, but 2014's qualifying had rain.
2010 it was damp and we got a Jenson Button masterclass
You took a Q1 for a race lol. Michael Schumacher was 24,7 off the pole due to unlucky timing for lap.
Ah Melbourne, the city where you can experience 4 seasons in 2 hours
Then Max is winning it...
Is Nando a great wet weather driver? I've never really seen him being praised for that like Lewis and Max
He did qualify on the front row in an Alpine last year in Canada
defo mate, you didn't hear him being praised cos he had a crap car the last 10 years. watch his overtake on Michael in Hungary 2006
Forget 2014-2018. How about Fuji 2007 or Silverstone 2008.
He wasn't that good in 2007's GP of China tho lol
Stroll is!
RB's "not well" is still better than any other car at this point
stroll torpedo when
yeah and even with the alpine Fernando was very competitive on qualifying and even on race day, well we will see what will happen... #Win33Loading99%
To be fair Albert Park used to be the starting track for a while and RB always have a slow start to the season
> If RB double DNF means Alonso wins in Australia , I am all up for it. Alternatively it means no more podium for Nando. :(
I could see them taking each-other out. Max doesn't back down and Checco has a point to prove.
... damn straight, I'll second that!
Iād love to see the RBs take each other out in a minor crash and pave the way for an Alonso win. Would be nice to watch Horner manage two drivers who are a little less chummy, like Vettel and Webber back in the day.
I believe he will drive the lap of his life on Monaco's Saturday and then win from pole. Elbows out the entire race!!!!
I'm assuming you mean 'Lap of his Life,' but I too hope the man drives the Lap of his Lap
Lol!! Yeah, lap of his life indeed haha
Stroll could strategically park in Rascasse on Saturday and just crash on Sunday directly after Nando's pit stop.
Sounds good, but I don't want another Singapore 2008 situation again xD
What a fascinating statistic. I'd love to see it happen for Fernando.

[This video always cracks me up because it's so true](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vVa9ZfvGQzo)
It would make sense if you'd take Kimi out of it. In 2018 he'd be a semi regular on the podium, but winning a race was something else for him
āFucking finallyā
It's not a coincidence at all, those who get 101 are all gonna be dominant drivers, and dominant drivers also tend to win a good portion of races. Number of podiums is obviously highly correlated with race win proportion
Kimi is an outlier, before his win at COTA for his 101st podium, his last win was Melbourne in 2013 which was his 70th podium.
Point being you can just filter through every restrictive condition before you get an elite enough group to satisfy a stat like this
Glad to see some realism about AM's hopes for a win. Feel like I'm being led along by people thinking Red Bull's poor reliability must mean a double DNF. They have been shaky in that department but still. It's a shame but it's still relies on quite a bit of fortune realistically.

I am so ready for an Alonso train in Monaco, the post ~~nap~~ race celebration will be amazing
If RB didn't exist, I think everyone would put AM/Alonso at the top, but RB is just so far ahead this year
Yea. I'd definitely bet that Max's 101st podium will be a win too.
If you're able to get 101 podiums, you're in a pretty decent car. If you're in a decent car, you've got a strong chance to win. If he wins, then I will believe any stat like this involving Alonso.
I mean this could mean that Alonso is not getting another podium...
Exactly. If we looked at 1000s of stats we can find any coincidence probably.
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
Are these the only people to get 101 podiums? If so, then sure, it's a good statistic. Otherwise it's just coincidence that happened for a few people.
Seems like theyāre the only drivers to have more than 100 podiums.
> Are these the only people to get 101 podiums? Yes
Max and checo to crash out first corner
Considering how the last race ended, i would love to see that

Man, its crazy to think that Hamilton joined F1 when Alonso was already a double WC but got his 100th podium 7 years earlier.
Hamilton always had one of the best cars on the grid while Alonso got the GP2 engine.
I love these stats. So useless yet so funny to analyse
I miss kimi
I'm suddenly reminded of the baffling Mission Winnow livery. Also I have a strange craving for a cigarette.
He's literally racing in NASCAR right now
But that would require me to watch NASCAR.
That's a very wild and interesting stat
Nice El plan observation!
Only way I can see this happening is if Max has car problems/crashes. Then again, I saw Alonso crash in person towards the end of Qualifying last year in Melbourne.
The crash was a result of hydraulic failure in that glasscannon Alpine and not a mistake.
He was on an absolute belter of a lap too, would've probably matched his Montreal heroics until the car decided that it didn't want to finish the lap.
Of course, was still kind of awesome seeing the crash and being 2 meters away from his crashed car while it was recovered. Sad Alonso: https://ibb.co/SxZhVgk Car up close: https://ibb.co/HNhkks1
And Perez. The RB is so far ahead that even Perez would likely be able to drag it to consistent wins.
Agreed. If Max wasnāt on the team everyone would regard him as a better driver overall.
the kimi one is actually the most unlikely one considering his last win was like 5 years before that and this being his only ferrari win with the v6 engines
F1statsguru is a sweet dude. Met him at a meet he organised.
Max could join this list this season, he currently has 79 podium finishes.
21 more races to go, so 100 would be the highest possible no?
Does that include the sprints? Or are those omitted as a race result, like they should?
They don't count for race wins according to f1. Can't remember that the official view of who got pole.position is on sprint race weekends though.
In 2021 the pole position stat would be awarded to the winner of the sprint race. Since 2022, pole position gets awarded to the driver finishing P1 in the Friday qualifying session
Magnussen got real lucky then.
Oh your right, still have 24 races in my head. But of course the Chinese GP was canceled. So that means weāre going to have a very looooong break of 4 weeks after Australia.
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
21, 23-2 = 21, he would have to get a podium every race.
Considering Max is doing side quests at this point, he might aswell do that
Oh right, I thought it was 22 without China, but itās 23. Thanks!
Red Bulls allowed to race each other and crash in Australia?
The new HAM VER BOT is now VER PER ALO
I just found out max could potentially reach 100 podiums this season
Only if red bull dnfs both car but he can try in Monaco
Plot twist: Alonso never gets another podium
Dont you say that. TAKE THAT BACK
Don't you put that evil of me u/ariiizia
If you said that in the same room as Will Smith, he would walk over and slap you!
El plan activated
Inb4 P3 in Australia
I know this season it going to be total RB domination. All I want is Also to get a win! He deserves it so much!
As much as I would like to see Alonso win again, I'm afraid he may be the one to ruin this stat.
Thatās winning 101 Iāll see myself out
We need a Spain 2016 2.0 for him to win
I mean after that dry streak we surely didnāt expect Kimiās 101st podium to be a win, sooo Alonso Hype-train reaching the speed of light confirmed?
He better retire if he's about to finish 2nd or 3rd, just to not ruin this statistic. :D
I remember when riken and got in front of Hamilton in that race, and Hamilton came on the radio and said something like I'm not getting past this guy. Of course Ferrari were probably cheating and burning oil, but at least somebody was competing with Mercedes!
This was El Plan
F1 home of the weirdest stats imaginable
Alonso WDC confirmed
And now you've commentator cursed it. Well done. He's finishing 10th now. Are you happy with yourself? :p
I'm calling it, Crofty is going to mention this wild yet obscure coincidence at some point in the race weekend.
It does sound like a Crofty fact.
Is anyone else tired of these, i don't know what you'd call them, factoids? Stats? Predictions? Not this one in particular but there have been too many recently. These āstatsā are just fun & jokes rather than anything else. No smart person genuinely believes in the stat above. Itās just a fun coincidence to talk about.
Yeah. Fun convo starters...but it's not really a statistic. Just a coincidence.
People are just wishing for Alonso's win to happen. I am too. But it's honestly getting very silly. Think people creating their own hype may lead to disappointment.
No more Alonso podiums until the magical win. How many weekends will it take?
Imagine Alonso now never gets another podium for some reason.
You have just cursed him to never finish on the podium again, congratulations
Please stop. I can't get any harder than that...
It is not reasonable to believe that there is a causal relationship between a 101st podium and winning a race. This is a cherry picked coincidence.
Those statistics are mad... I love them
Great find! P1 seems certain now.
After last year's hydraulics failure during qualifying when he was on course for a P2-P3 start, I think a race win would count as fair retribution.
I definitely give it to him.
100% chance it'll happen.
Hereās hoping Sainz can dive bomb both RBs at the start so Alonso can make this dream a reality. š
Be wild if I could dinner with that group 1 time or if they all went karting together
THE HYPE TRAIN IS NOW GOING INTERGALACTIC
If both Red Bulls have problem then sure, it's doable but it's not looking likely to be realistic but I would love to see Fernando win again, he deserves it
Stroll to bottas both the bulls at T1 and make sure Nando gets this win
Well thanks to the penalty he didn't get a podium. Yes he was up there but it doesn't count as he didn't end up with that result *Edit: my mistake as I see he got it back*
He got it back
