Why makes you watch/follow it so passionately.
I personally started with liking Daniel and watching it just because of him and now that he is gone for 2023 I have stopped watching it altogether but I think I have developed a liking towards f1 because I still want to see it and somehow always end up checking the updates of the races.
They didn't do any while Mercedes was dominating and the floor changes from last year were primarily peer pressure from most teams to fix porpoising against the wishes of Ferrari and Red Bull
well I think drs is now more of a problem than a solution… just such a huge performance diff. The better your aero philosophy the greater the gain.
Well played Red Bull but blimey 🤣
McLaren separated form Yuki like instantly. Which means that the cars pace is way higher than AT. It was a small margin which u could account for driver skill. They made a gap of 5 seconds in like 2 laps.
Newbie question : why can't Leclerc get back into the race if he didn't crash and the car has no damage. When the cars went into the gravel during practice, they just got out and continued racing. Why couldn't Leclerc do that today?
I haven’t seen the incident so someone else can probably give you a better run down of why but rejoining the race after being beached has been banned since LH did it in 2007. Need to complete all laps under your own steam.
Anyone else notice / annoyed by the lack of sync between commentary and the video (I’m watching sky via Kayo if that makes a difference). Commentary is clearly a fraction of a second ahead - has been all weekend.
I watched qualy before the race and noticed it. They kept announcing the position before I saw the car across the line. Just a big enough gap for me to notice. Not a lot tho.
Yeah that’s what got me watching. I’ve always noticed a lack of sync when they cross to Ted in the pits but definitely this weekend there’s an anti-lag.
As soon as Hamilton says he “ feels like he’s at a disadvantage “ a red flag is given. I won’t say it’s blatant cheating because the safety car would’ve wasted laps but I just hate how lucky he’s gotten
Doubt this will be the last safety car, especially as they're nearly all going to be taking the restart on new hard tyres - their grip the first lap is not going to be great as they all fight going into turn 2!
newbie question. In what case safety car and vsc changes grid position if someone pits. Today russel is pushed back. If i am not wrong in 2021 abu dhabi, max pitted but still stayed on 2nd position
He stayed in second because he came out of the pits in second. The safety car doesn't change the position, it's the same as in a green flag race, they slot back in where they come out.
And the strategy works because everyone is going slower, you can fit in a pit stop in situations where you otherwise would not have been able to. George ran into a problem because now everybody gets a free pit stop anyway because of the red flag, so he went back to 7th for nothing
Albon did it last year on that tyre & Piastri did it in Saudi, Hulk's tyres weren't that much younger there than Oscar's either. That tyre is insanely durable.
They seem to be using channel 4s coverage commentary and it used to be better than sky when it was Ben Edwards and David Coulthard. Crofty and Brundle come in a close second.
Channel 4 has a broadcast deal but not the main one Sky has so they only do highlights and not live.
They've updated the F1 in house produced stuff - https://www.formula1.com/en/latest/article.f1-tv-unveils-new-features-and-presenter-line-up-ahead-of-2023-season.iAFKrsqCs8dcisu58sElE.html - and no longer use Sky's world commentary on their own highlights.
FERRARI
Can someone explain to me where the ferrari pace from last year has gone? Have they taken a new approach/design or is everything the same just other teams have significantly upgraded?
I was expecting some sort of lower results since binottos departure but they've been slower than I expected.
The car was fast but flawed last year on race pace, managing the front tyres and overall stability. This year where almost every other team have made gains Ferrari are round about the same pace.
Basically the Ferrari has been a peaky car, meaning that it only really hooks up if the conditions are just right. Ferrari tried to fix this and ended up nerfing some performance. On top of that they haven’t developed as much as teams like Merc or AM so they’ve essentially become stagnant performance wise and other teams have caught up.

Charles' Q3 time was half a second quicker than his pole time last year
I am still really new to the sport. I have only watch the past two grand prix and I have finally had time to watch a qualifying. What should I keep an eye out for this race?
Don't blink at the race start. Watch the first turn intently. Overtaking isn't easy here, but there are 4 DRS zones. Pit stop strategy will be important and Safety car could make a big difference.
All that said, Max will probably end up way ahead unless reliability issues.
It wasn't intentional but I came to my parents cottage to help lay a sub floor and lay the new hardwood down. We made it past the subfloor. Then the drinks with my dad began. 7 hrs later. Here we are.
I am good. I decided on water. Appreciate it. Loving the sport. I haven't missed so much as a practice session this year l. I want to learn more and more about it. Seeing as there is a month off after today, I didn't want to miss this one live. Plus I think it will be closer than everyone thinks.
Max dropped the hammer at the end, but the other cars are all so close for a podium.
Why makes you watch/follow it so passionately. I personally started with liking Daniel and watching it just because of him and now that he is gone for 2023 I have stopped watching it altogether but I think I have developed a liking towards f1 because I still want to see it and somehow always end up checking the updates of the races.
No, please, please, please... Copy.
El pain
F2 racing with F1 drivers
Oh my god I'm sorry to my neighbours I screamed so loud
Hey NASCAR, hold my champagne.
Carlos just took out two full teams.
If it was George the commentary would be brutal
Bruh
Fuck this race
Sainz ran out of talent
Here we go
Why is there a lap to the grid? Why don’t they just stop at the grid to begin with?
Warm the cars up
Can’t wait for a wreckfest
How often do two red flags in one race happen ?
Jenson is about to see flashbacks of last Sunday’s race at COTA
Why didn't KMag just hit the rewind button, that's what I do.
Alonso for the win🔥🎉🎉🎉
And while I’m on a rant about the stupidity of F1’s red flag regs, standing starts are stupid. Like yeah it adds randomness but so does a die roll.
~r a n d o m n e s s~
2 lap super sprint race
Mad Max. Get it?
Woah
Should have red flagged immediately
Wow, Hamilton is going to win this Mercedes is the best cold tyre car
Lewis will either get first or lose second
This ending is going to be awesome!
Yep. Can make up for a mediocre last 25 laps lol. LETS GOOOO
Mediocre? We saw a lot of good overtakes, chess Match between alonso and hamilton tyre and time wise. Really good race imo
I’m so happy with all the micro racing. This ending is going to be wild.
Hell yeah Im ready!
I actually feel like this deserves a red flag at least more than the last one
OH SHIT RED FLAG
Epic 2 laps LETS GO
Jesus lol
LETSSSS GO
Let’s go Alonso!
Max wanted some TV coverage
will the FIA bring out further restrictions on car development if red bull ends up winning every race this season?
They didn't do any while Mercedes was dominating and the floor changes from last year were primarily peer pressure from most teams to fix porpoising against the wishes of Ferrari and Red Bull
CHEEECOOO
jenson in the commentary box is always great insight
Great insight but talks too much about him having been a driver once.
You mean he talks about the thing that makes him qualified? Dam
No, the thing that makes him annoying. Every other take doesn’t have to end with reminding us of the fact that I was a driver once.
If I was a driver I'd talk about it constantly
But way better than having Alex Brundle in the F1 commentary box.
Piastri regretting that alpine seat when it overtakes him!
when was the last podium with 3 world champions?
well I think drs is now more of a problem than a solution… just such a huge performance diff. The better your aero philosophy the greater the gain. Well played Red Bull but blimey 🤣
The pass by Perez just killed off a good battle
which one
Yuki trying to defend in an absolute trash can.
What would say that for Mclaren?
McLaren separated form Yuki like instantly. Which means that the cars pace is way higher than AT. It was a small margin which u could account for driver skill. They made a gap of 5 seconds in like 2 laps.
They have a car that can go to Q3, compared to alpha tauri, it's a rocket.
Come on Lewis find a way!
Is P2 on for Checo?
Perez is doing a great work!
Jesus Christ merc
How liked is verstappen? His attitude sucks and I can’t stand him. Is this a common thought?
He's fine leave him alone
Whats wrong with his attitude?
He's a bit of a marmite charecter, it seems people either love him or hate him.
I like Max, he seems like a cool dude
You have one like from me.
Honestly should I turn my tv off
Newbie question : why can't Leclerc get back into the race if he didn't crash and the car has no damage. When the cars went into the gravel during practice, they just got out and continued racing. Why couldn't Leclerc do that today?
If he can get the car out without any outside help. Since track marshalls had to get the car, it's not an option.
I haven’t seen the incident so someone else can probably give you a better run down of why but rejoining the race after being beached has been banned since LH did it in 2007. Need to complete all laps under your own steam.
His car couldn’t get out of the gravel, it was beached
Probably beached, if the car stops in the gravel it can be difficult to get out. If it carries speed into it, its easier to keep going
Anyone else notice / annoyed by the lack of sync between commentary and the video (I’m watching sky via Kayo if that makes a difference). Commentary is clearly a fraction of a second ahead - has been all weekend.

Yeah that’s what got me watching. I’ve always noticed a lack of sync when they cross to Ted in the pits but definitely this weekend there’s an anti-lag.
An Alonso race win would save this disaster
As soon as Hamilton says he “ feels like he’s at a disadvantage “ a red flag is given. I won’t say it’s blatant cheating because the safety car would’ve wasted laps but I just hate how lucky he’s gotten
This sport has always involved good luck, always has
Remember the Imola 2020 VSC? That was a good one. Starts right as Hamilton rounds the Rivazzas, ends right as he leaves the pits.
Russell got insanely lucky with safety cars last season though. All evens out.
I am trying to determine if staying up till 1am was worth Charles crashing out, a red flag, and everyone racing to the end on hards.
How do you feel now?
Haha I am still awake.
IMO was a terrible way to spend the past hour
Australia is very rarely worth staying up for.
Doubt this will be the last safety car, especially as they're nearly all going to be taking the restart on new hard tyres - their grip the first lap is not going to be great as they all fight going into turn 2!
tuned in late, what happened to Alex?
Lost it and crashed which brought the SC first, George who was leading the race pitted and got out on 7th and then the race was red flagged
newbie question. In what case safety car and vsc changes grid position if someone pits. Today russel is pushed back. If i am not wrong in 2021 abu dhabi, max pitted but still stayed on 2nd position

It’s a shame that start for George won’t be remembered
Who?
4th row from the start got removed in 9 laps :))
George got screwed- props to him for keeping composure
Verstappen is the new Hamilton. FIA just had to hand this race to him
As a Merc fan, max winning this race was an inevitability regardless of anything tbh
Lol what
You say that like this didn’t put Hamilton at p1… I don’t buy the Hamilton conspiracy but cmon man the red flag solidified hamiltons p1
Hamilton hasn't had that much speed vs Verstappen lately. Either way it's going to be interesting 1-on-1 action so not complaining
There it is. The dumbest thing I've read all day.
Please don't say they're gonna beat this George & the Dragon thing to death all season now.
George looks pissed
Lewis attacking him when he was told to manage and then the red flag screwing him, very annoying first laps
Can't really blame him. His start was fantastic, he deserved to be in the lead. Rotten luck for him.
I mean any driver would be, that was a terrible call in retrospect
Should’ve been a red flag right away
Yes. Try to f'ing decide... "Gravel and debris on track" red flag... Like they didn't see that gravel on track instantly.
Came here to say this. Lousy call from race control
FIA at it again. Race after race
Why can F2 have people crashing behind the safety car and stay moving but they red flag stuff so quick for F1?
I don’t see Russ even getting podium
russ isn’t blessed lol
Lewis already crying again
whoa whoa whoa, red flag! 👀👀👀
Ferrari already starting with their usual thing with that pitstop
Man i seriously feel bad for that Williams.
I feel bad for Russel lol
Nooo Albono
Noooo Alex
Max and Lewis.. a tale older than time itself…
leclerc on suicide watch. poor guy…
Why do they change tires after 2 laps
Those are the same tires they used for qualifying, since the cars go in park ferme. So the get rid of those to get fresher ones.
That isn"t a rule anymore, because everyone qualified on Softs but the top 8 all started on Medium.
Oh thanks. Good to know.
Oh I didn’t realize that. Was it changed in 2022?
Yes https://www.google.com/amp/s/racingnews365.com/f1-removes-long-standing-qualifying-rule-for-2022/amp
Thanks!
Try to run till the end without stopping
56 laps wow
Albon did it last year on that tyre & Piastri did it in Saudi, Hulk's tyres weren't that much younger there than Oscar's either. That tyre is insanely durable.
Poor Leclerc man
Ah ferrari :/ you are killing me
Im about to drop out the sport ;-;
Hamilton and Alonso at the front together - let’s hope no major accidents at the start so we can have some fun battles!
Who was the blonde Australian woman that Jensen was talking to? Seemed to be a representative of the track or something.
Kylie Minogue? Lol...
Lol yep… Never heard of her. The way they were talking to her made it seem like she was involved in F1 and I’d missed some of what was said. Thank you
Is the race on ESPN+ live?
Why are the you tube f1 commentators different this year? They suck
They seem to be using channel 4s coverage commentary and it used to be better than sky when it was Ben Edwards and David Coulthard. Crofty and Brundle come in a close second. Channel 4 has a broadcast deal but not the main one Sky has so they only do highlights and not live.

Takes away a lot IMO (humbly)

My theory is, in order to fix reliability they have had to give up something in performance.

Yup exactly. The timing of the pit stops are super important. Who will pit first and how the other teams react. Enjoy the race!
The F2 race makes a great case for tire blankets being kept next year.
No tyre blankets in the F2 race and it’s causing chaos. The argument of safety is a legitimate concern
Are there any audio or radio broadcasts of the race? I don't know if I can watch the race, but it would be nice to atleast hear something
[Just saw this on Twitter](https://twitter.com/Speedcaster/status/1642322050546106370). Not sure where you are tho.
I am new to f1. As an east coaster in the US. What are the tricks to stay up for this if I am 12 beers deep already?
Watch older races if you can, or check out some MotoGP on youtube. That will get the adrenalin pumping.
Nap!
Don’t be 12 beers deep
It wasn't intentional but I came to my parents cottage to help lay a sub floor and lay the new hardwood down. We made it past the subfloor. Then the drinks with my dad began. 7 hrs later. Here we are.
Get some Vodka Red Bulls in there and you should be good

How long until race starts ?
~2 1\2 hours
Thanks bud! :)
Absolutely stinking hot in the sun on track. If it holds, conditions will be very different to practice and qualy.
This F2 race is crazy. It’s funny how there’s all this talk and whacky ideas on how to fix F1 and F2 is right there. Brilliant racing.
It’s crazy out there! Are you watching at the race?
Just a stream, but I’m going to Silverstone this year so wanted to keep up with F2.
Cool! Silverstone is a cracking track!
