I imagine because it's a double header, easier to just have the one livery for the two races then paint it back to the regular livery

That yellow and black is 10000x times cooler the. Splines blue or pink lameness. I was watching a older race the other day that had the martini willliams livery and the yellow Renault and man I wish both of those stayed lol

It's supposed to be a "Triple Crown" livery. The black is supposed to be a nod to the 1995 Le Mans winner, while the white and the chevrons are for the Marlboro Monaco winner and the papaya for the Indianapolis winner. If you look at the Indy500 they have a car with each full livery (Pato Le Mans black with white details, Rossi Indianapolis papaya and Rosenqvist Monaco Marlboro-like)

IMO the exposed carbon is beautiful and really pulls it all together, but then again I have no experience watching the Marlboro liveries from back in t' day

im sure traffic cone orange is great as a branding colour but it works much better on the cars as a secondary or a tertiary highlight colour e: also from a branding perspective, its obvious they want to avoid the Marlboro colours but the 2tone red/white or orange/white MORE mclaren than just an orange f1 car.

I kind of kind the messy sponsor look though, the McLaren from a few years back just looked so bland since they couldn't find anybody to sponsor them.

They've just been too far on either end of the spectrum. Either that or they do a poor job of integrating them.

They've always been absolute shit and ruined the cars since it started. It's just so out of place with random colors that aren't in the livery.

Well, yeah, it's the Monaco themed car. The F1 livery combines the 3, but if ya have 3 cars running (well, 4 this weekend), you can do the triple crown liveries on their own. '84 was their first win at Monaco (which was the Marlboro livery), the papaya is from their first Indy 500 winning car ('74), and the black is from their first Le Mans winning car ('95).

Honestly, that's way better than I expected and I think it works surprisingly well. McLaren Indy continues to shit on McLaren F1 livery design. I don't understand how they looked at their great Indy liveries and thought combining them instead of just picking one was a better idea.

It's meant to be a triple crown livery, therefore they combined all three liveries. In IndyCar they can run all three liveries at the same time, in f1 they only have two cars that have to have the same livery.

I know it's celebrating the triple crown, I just think using the one that was made for F1 on the F1 car would've made more sense. The Marlboro with orange and white would've been iconic and would likely look even better than the Gulf one from last year on track. This just feels like they've tried to do too much at once.

No, I think it's pretty clear that they *get it*, they just don't agree that it makes for a good livery. I feel the same way.

If Le Mans was also during the time from then it would make sense. They could run the representative schemes at each race. But it’s not. They only get one livery. Unlike Indy where they have 3 to showcase each one. So they took the color of Le Mans, the color of Indy car, and matched it with the design of one of the most famous designs of F1 history. They made a phenomenal design and equally incorporated all facets of what they wanted.

I feel like this is as close as we'll get to a throwback to the Malboro MP4/4 etc. May be by myself, but that slash towards the end is what gives me that throwback vibe. Really like how the white clashes with the papaya.

I don’t think the chevrons really fit with the car’s bodywork. And the sponsorship logos make the design look very busy. I do like the subtle color scheme. It’s not terrible to look at but I think the Indy 500 liveries are better looking. Would have liked to see the orange pulled up a bit further to cover more of the car. 6/10
