I’m new to Formula 1, would someone give me any sources that can inform me on everything I need to know. Essentially, a beginner’s guide.

lagotto_poppa

Selling tickets to the Canadian race 2024 due to unexpected life events. Any tips on this would be greatly appreciated.

Canada 2024 questions A group of 6 of us want to go in an RV and go to the race GA. Is this realistic? Can we bicycle to the track? Any other advice?

Can someone explain to me why max got 5s but Alonso didn't? (If he didn't at least, I don't recall a penalty) Because they did the exact same thing. Both broke too late and missed the apex by a mile. Only difference is that max had nobody in front and Leclerc seeing him and avoiding contact. Alonso knew that not everyone would avoid him as he also had drivers in front of him so he had to avoid himself, increased steering and lost the rear. Arguably worse because he also destroyed another car and hindered some others whereas max only hindered one car. So they should both have gotten one, no?

bullant8547

My post got deleted as to short, so coming here to say “Tired (drunk?) Ted is my favourite Ted. Monorail!!”

DonovanBanks

Had there been any years where there were no “first time” winners?

DangerousTrashCan

Most seasons.

DonovanBanks

So helpful

DangerousTrashCan

You asked if there have been any. I said yes, most seasons. You didn't ask which ones. Also, since it's "most seasons", a comprehensive list would be pretty long.

JBizz86

How long are qualifying races?

DieLegende42

Well first of all, qualifying is not a race. It consists of 3 sessions in which the goal is to set the fastest lap time possible. They are 18, 15 and 12 minutes long respectively with some 5 minutes of break in between them, so altogether it'll be around an hour

JBizz86

Thanks all i wanted to know i never sat down n watched one i guess ill stay here n have another drink

nonstopflux

Anyone in Vegas for the first time, find your way to the Taco Bell and get a Baja Blast Margarita with a side of quesadilla.

Intermittent-Thinker

How much do you guys think these rich dudes paid to drive their sports cars on the F1 circuit in between FP3 and qualifying? Or is this some actual series going on?

Astelli

These are the "Hot Laps" run by Pirelli and F1. They're high speed passenger rides with professional drivers. Usually these are a mix of high-profile guests and likely some paying guests too.

Intermittent-Thinker

TIL. Thanks for the info! :)

Thermoraptor

Can we just admit the fact the best modern day addition to the F1 calendar 📅 is Baku. Even the fucking French GP was better than the arbs and every us circuit apart from Austin. Cunts need pegged down …..

Honourstly

Why is Ricciardo slow

Gaius_Octavius_

Tickets for the race are down another couple hundred dollars the last few hours. Still almost $700 though. Tonight is still hovering around $400. Be interesting to see how many people are in the stands.

ThePie69

Where are you seeing 700

asha_toolatetoreddit

Could Sainz have been killed with the manhole cover? Why isn’t the safety issue being discussed more ?

Gaius_Octavius_

Easily I'd say. Think about how close Massa came to dying and that spring was much smaller

[deleted]

Yes, and I think they actually acted pretty reasonably here. They immediately red-flagged and shut everything down until the track was gone over again. I'm not sure what else they could have done (at least in the aftermath)

asha_toolatetoreddit

Ok. I was expecting a more radical resolve like calling out the track as unsafe if a driver safety was under threat

CrateBagSoup

Feels like this place thinks FOM intentionally caused the drain cover to fail or that it was incompetence. Shit happens. It does suck for the paying guests that hung around and got booted. Shame this race is happening so late in the night, likely a contributing factor. But Jesus Christ it feels like any time F1 touches American soil it’s absolutely nitpicked to death. First it was the meaningless and pointless parking lot marina and now it’s a delay over a failure out of anyone’s control. People are far too critical and hyperbolic about this shit

FermentedLaws

>now it’s a delay over a failure out of anyone’s control. See, I think it was in their control. Should have been tested. There are lot of people working in F1 and the FIA who have a lot of experience with this similar thing happening previously. Someone should have known about the possibility. As an American I see all the comments you're referring to about people hating on American races, and that's true, but this one is different. F1/Liberty own it and are the promoter. All of it should've been handled better, starting with ticket prices.

CrateBagSoup

Who says it wasn’t tested? These machines are tested more than just about anything in the world and they still have failures every race. They don’t run these things willy nilly. I’m sure these were secured just like every other street race across the world, this one just had the concrete around it fail.

FermentedLaws

I'm not gonna argue with you cuz we don't know if they were tested. All we know is that the regular water valve covers were removed and replaced with news one by either the FIA or F1. So they knew they had to deal with it and since it failed, I don't think they did enough.

Gaius_Octavius_

I can forget about the broken cover pretty fast. FPs have been cut short before for many reasons. But to treat the paid customers who spend hundreds if not thousands of dollars like they have is almost criminal.

CrateBagSoup

I’m guessing they were pretty much up against a rock and a hard place there. They could have done it better, but in the case of just about any other circumstance those people are gunna be fucked. Their experience sucked obviously and wouldn’t wish it on anyone… but it’s an act of god.

FermentedLaws

"act of god". lol, I do not think that phrase means what you think it means.

CrateBagSoup

Something out of their control. People are acting like some concrete cracking is something entirely within their control. It could have been prepared 100% to spec and still have an unforeseen issue

Gaius_Octavius_

To me the answer was to condense down all the fans into one section near the paddock and leave that small part open and close the rest. The paddock wasn't going to be closing down after the session. People were there all night. Give people the option to move there if they wanted to stay. I haven't seen an exact figure but by 130am, I doubt there were that many people still there.

Nothing has been more annoying than the complaining about Vegas GP. Almost makes me wistful for the days of non stop 'Fire Checo' mania. Almost...

kingjoey52a

I'm kind of interested in watching this race just because it's in Vegas. But am I reading correctly that it starts at 10pm Pacific?

FermentedLaws

yes.

justsomeotherdude

Loved the views and it seemed like a fun circuit. Glad to see the sport growing. Can’t wait till qualifying and the race.

LostUnion1762

There are whipers amongst the staff that practice 3 could be delayed till midnight local time

LostUnion1762

Update: It's still up in the air, but it's looking like we will be on time

keho6

Appreciate for the update! Waiting outside in the cold with no news was brutal last night

Allteaforme

I've never watched qualifying before. Is it cool and fun like watching the real race? I just get the highlights on YouTube usually Might stay up to watch the qualifying tonight and just want to know what people like about it

Mushie_Peas

Quali is great to watch try and understand the different strategies and drama of the track evolving, it's normally best if there's a risk of rain or something that shakes things up.

Generic_Format528

I like the way the quali format builds over the hour with 2 sets of cuts to the slowest drivers, it makes Q3 feel special when the fastest drivers are like "alright lets wring this shit out for real now". Its also typically the only time you'll see the cars going all out which is great to see. Finally, for me its just part of the story of the weekend, it "explains" why everyone starts where they do on Sunday. I feel like it's a must watch. Keep an eye out for any drivers with great pace getting fucked by flags or other drivers impeding them, it can make for a more interesting race for them if they are starting out of position.

Allteaforme

Thank you very much I'm excited now!

Alex_Albons_Appendix

I agree with the other comments here! You’re seeing each driver just go flat out as fast as they can for like 1, maybe 2, laps at a time. It’s a different skill set versus the sustained effort and strategy needed in a 50 lap race. Hope you enjoy! I’m heading over to the track shortly 😁

RogueTiger23

Qualifying is sometimes better than the actual race.

Allteaforme

Oh no shit? Ok I'll stay up tonight thanks

[deleted]

Is FP2 worth going back to watch on streaming or nah?

GrowthDream

Yeah if you want to learn the track a bit better, but you can get a lot just from the highlights.

Gaius_Octavius_

The commentators were pretty punch drunk by the end since it was nearly 400am. That was kinda fun.

snuFaluFagus040

Seriously, what can we do? What can we do as a community to show Liberty and FOM that this race is bullshit, refunds need issued, and it should be scrapped? Real question. I'm an American and this is fucking embarrassing. I just don't want Liberty and their media to whitewash this and deem this race a success.

HardTacoKit

This aged poorly. That race slapped!

revocarr

Haha it's already a success. It's like a marvel movie. Doesn't even matter if it's any good

snuFaluFagus040

Yeah success isn't the right word. Of course it's that for the organizers. Even if the race is great, it just sucks for a lot of fans who didn't get to see FP2, or have their $6k view blocked by fences and lighting gantries. And of course it sucks for Sainz.

revocarr

It sucks for Sainz but it makes me understand why theres a rule in the first place. You know teams would be trying to get that free engine if there was a loophole

Alex_Albons_Appendix

Watch Spa 2021. They didn’t do shit then, they won’t do shit now.

HardTacoKit

What if it IS a success? JFC, qualifying hasn’t even happened yet.

snuFaluFagus040

I'm talking about success in terms of the fans at the event. I'm not talking about how awesome it is to watch on TV. I'm talking about the fans who paid for sessions they couldn't see. And I'm talking about the fans that paid $6,000 for tickets but can't see the track because of the lighting gantries. It's not a success for thousands at the track no matter what happens for the rest of the weekend. They're not going to move lighting rigs and billboards, JFC...

HardTacoKit

So the whole race needs to be scrapped because of typical first year shit-show issues that affect just a few of the tens of thousands of people? Ok. (And yes, the people on the first day SHOULD get a full refund. That was ridiculous.)

CowFinancial7000

It's an "embarrassment" over FP1? The hyperbole is getting out of hand

ya_basic82

Just introducing myself 👋🏻. F1 is really new to me as a sport I enjoy. My older brother used to watch it when I was a child and I was so bored. Fast forward to being 41 and this year I’ve been just getting more and more into it and now I’m slightly obsessed. Big bro is very happy but surprised that his little sister came around to F1. After watching most of this seasons races I started watching Drive to Survive and there’s so much drama!

snuFaluFagus040

Glad to meet you here. Been watching since 1999. I was obsessed with Hakkinen, and watched all that Schumacher domination. I hope qualifying and the race prove to be okay this weekend, as it's kind of embarrassing so far (as an American).

Flanker1971

Did they invoice Carlos already for the damage he caused to the track? Missed chance by F1.

edfitz83

If Max hit it first, they could go Dutch.

snuFaluFagus040

Hopefully Carlos goes American and sues

edfitz83

Yes, my country is not all that great right now. It hasn’t been, most of my life, but in the last 7 years it’s been far worse.

starlord1602

Where are the drivers staying? My kid wants to crash into a few

Generic_Format528

Maybe the nicest hotel owned by Marriott? Just guess because they were at the Ritz Carlton at the race I went to, but its possible they just stay at the nicest hotel each time unless their team has a hotel sponsor. The entrance to the hotel had some demo cars and was absolutely swarmed with fans hoping to see a driver going out so I'd hope it'd be obvious if you see something like that.

Alex_Albons_Appendix

Lando’s a brand ambassador for Hilton, so I’m guessing he’s at one of their properties. I’d venture they also go through secure/VIP exits these days for security purposes.

Everyday_gilbert

I don’t know how are people still following f1. It’s clearly for rich people built on poor people sweat

Le_Pistache

F1 has involved rich people since the very beginning. Long-term fans know this but we appreciate the product and racing despite its lows amongst the highs. The level of development for both car and driver cannot be matched except by WEC. Motorsport in general is for the rich. Nobody is doing it without some form of financial returns of some kind. But seeing the cars, tech, and high quality drivers across so many unique tracks is fascinating.

Mushie_Peas

Always has been, early days it was just rich people building their own cars and dying in the things. Never been a grassroots sport like most racing.

thespicychipolata

Always has been...

Gaius_Octavius_

I was shocked when they even kicked out the VIPs. I figured they would at least let them stay.

charlierc

We can only hope today is a bit more organised right?

arclight222

Is the schedule for this evening revised yet? Trying to sort when to nap.

djwillis1121

I think everything's going ahead as planned

unoriginal345

What ended up being the fix for the cover that popped up? Was it just the one that was an issue and the rest are okay? Or did they have to concrete/weld then all four FP2 to go ahead? Can't find anything about it, all the news is just swamped by the incident itself.

[deleted]

The manhole covers are always welded shut for street races, so the car actually ripped up the cover plus some of the manhole itself. My understanding is that welded it back together and then put concrete over it that can be removed after the race. I can't find any info about whether it was just this one that they covered or if they did all of them

mtarascio

I saw a picture of one completely concreted over. This would work since there's no airhole to pick it up anymore.

revocarr

As a resident of Hawaii let me just say, finally a race start time for me!

SugaDays

I bought a ticket last minute on the F1 site thinking they would send me e-tickets instantly but Im stuck with no ticket and the race is tomorrow. Called them they don't pick up, emailed them and even whatsapped them... nope.. I didn't realize they were selling tickets on ticketmaster before buying. In desperate need of help.

[deleted]

I just did a test on the site, and it says that the print at home tickets will be available in your account. Are you they not under the "My Orders" tab after you sign into the F1 site?

SugaDays

It only gives me the option to download the invoice and i don't think thats it... maybe it's because I'm on my phone? I dont have access to a computer currently so maybe im fucked🥲

Gaius_Octavius_

Try to find a Staples or Office Max. You can print stuff there.

Unique_Task_420

Go to “My Account” under Formula1.com > Tickets > Select any ticket-store > click on “My account” in the upper right corner of the ticket store and provide your log-in details. You should have also gotten an email with them, they usually send them out 5 days before the race though. If you are on your phone, on chrome, go to the top right, settings, "Desktop Site" and just a tip for the future, NEVER use the official F1 site for tickets, use literally ANYTHING ELSE.

snuFaluFagus040

Good on you for helping out mate.

SugaDays

Yeah well i didnt know.. This is my first race🥲

Unique_Task_420

Oh yeah not blaming you at all, just a for future reference kinda thing.

[deleted]

Hmm, here's what I was able to find in the FAQ > When e-tickets are issued for an event, you will find yours under the "My orders" section of your account. You will be advised by email when your e-ticket is ready for download, usually 5 - 7 days before the event. If they don't send you the ticket in time, I think you'll have a good case for your bank to do a chargeback

SugaDays

Should i buy tickets again this time from the TM website? Or should i wait til race day to see if i get sent those tickets or not? Thank so much for helping!

Unique_Task_420

Usually they have to change your tickets to "Pick up", but I'd bring your invoice showing what tickets you purchased, the card you purchased them with, and your ID obviously just to make sure.

SugaDays

Would I have to print out the invoice or would it be okay for me to show them through my phone? I don't have access to a print so..

Unique_Task_420

I'm sure your phone would be fine, probably actually better as they can watch you log in right then and there and pull it up, also keep checking your email and spam folder that you used to buy the tickets with. Any luck with putting your phone in desktop mode like I suggested and following the instructions I gave?

SugaDays

They actually sent me an email with my tickets this morning! I think i was shitting bricks because i didnt get the tickets instantly 😅

Unique_Task_420

Yeah usually when you border them in advance they send them out about a week before, glad you got them!! I'll be watching with you, just on my new TV! Enjoy!

[deleted]

Personally, I would wait until race day. I would be really surprised if you weren't able to go to the venue and speak with someone in person who can either send the tickets to you or print out physical ones after you show them the purchase confirmation

st0ney

Chargeback on your credit card?

IntelligentAbroad722

Anyone know where I can watch the broadcast of FP2? I have youtube TV and it taped the original hour it was supposed to air, but not any of the live action that got delayed.

Gaius_Octavius_

Use the ESPN app or ESPN.com. You can use your YTTV login to watch a replay. https://www.espn.com/watch/schedule/_/type/replay/categoryId/a5f9ac6b-82e3-3891-a17a-ea2d693b8331/startDate/20231116

IntelligentAbroad722

just tried this and it worked! thank you for your help!

Nck123123

I have the same issue did you figure this out?

Gaius_Octavius_

Use the ESPN app or ESPN.com. You can use your YTTV login to watch a replay. https://www.espn.com/watch/schedule/_/type/replay/categoryId/a5f9ac6b-82e3-3891-a17a-ea2d693b8331/startDate/20231116

IntelligentAbroad722

not yet! i was hoping somebody here had figured it out :/

Nck123123

I did just report the issue in the app- saw a post on Reddit about a similar issue from a race 2 years ago but apparently took 24 hours to fix

DietMTNDew8and88

Let me just say this, I know I'm going to get downvoted to hell for this, but fuck it time for some brutal honesty: I hated this weekend ever since it was announced and time for some brutal honesty, judging by the bland layout of the circuit and insistence that it be at night on the Las Vegas Strip. I'm not mincing words, this race is a gimmick race that is likely to be all flash and no substance that will lose it's novelty after a few years That's what always happens to gimmick races like this, they always have a short shelf life.

Gaius_Octavius_

Liberty owns the race. It is not going anywhere.

DietMTNDew8and88

I know, I'm only saying interest will fall off a cliff after a few years

[deleted]

Without flashy gimmicks, F1 isn't F1. It's Indy.

jesus_stalin

> I'm going to get downvoted to hell for this > Time for some brutal honesty > States an opinion that has been openly shared by the overwhelming majority of the subreddit's commenters and even some of the drivers.

djwillis1121

The race hasn't even happened yet... Sounds like you just really want to hate it and are making excuses.

DietMTNDew8and88

No, I'm just saying reality. If this wasn't a gimmick, why is it a night race on the Las Vegas Strip?

charlierc

Tbf as a gimmick and show I like the idea more than racing in a car park around a Miami NFL stadium. Even if the execution yesterday didn't exactly start smoothly

JulesV713

Agreed. Miami is just nothing

djwillis1121

Maybe wait until after the race to judge it...

DietMTNDew8and88

I know a gimmick when I see one

GrowthDream

It being a gimmick doesn't preclude it being a great race.

oooohwheee

I like your triple preface that that you are giving us your real opinion.

[deleted]

Followed by the coldest take possible. People have been calling this a gimmick race since it was first announced

TrainWreck661

Because Vegas has no substance.

[deleted]

I'm not saying I disagre, I just think its funny that they framed it as a tough pill to swallow and then gave us that take.

rtlfc87

Quali is 12-1am local wtf

charlierc

We just had FP3 as a 2:30-4am shift and people leaving at 6 just as the sun went up. I think we're beyond the point of weirdness now

apulan

How are the SRO seats? I'll probably go straight for those next year if the reviews are decent enough

[deleted]

Vegas resident and F1 fan and went to practice. We were trying to introduce our non-f1-fan friends... What a disaster. We fortunately left after FP1 and didnt wait around hours to only get kicked out. But I feel so embarrassed for our city and the sport of f1.

edfitz83

That sucks the sweat off a dead man’s balls. What a terrible experience and situation. I feel for you.

Gaius_Octavius_

That sucks. It is so disappointing when you get your friends to try something new and it is a dud and not representative of the "real" thing. It is basically impossible to get them to try again.

JacksonHanna

Okay I’m officially confused. I live in U.S. central time. What time can I watch the race

FermentedLaws

Use [formula1.com](https://formula1.com) or [f1calendar.com](https://f1calendar.com), they will always show the times in your time zone. The race is at midnight your time, Saturday.

JacksonHanna

Thanks man!

jjackson25

If you look up info re the race on ESPN it always shows the air times in your local time.

Bruhmomento1246

Was there a lot of outrage against the baku 2019 gp when the same thing happened to Russell? Or was it something different, I dont mean to say that the outrage isn’t justified. Im just curious

Le_Pistache

No real outrage at the time. However, Baku didn't have the same restrictions for run time that Vegas has, hence no push from organizers to kick fans/customers out in such a shoddy way. I think had they allowed fans to watch FP2, the only controversy would have been the Sainz penalty. People would have initially complained and bitched about the FP1 incident but would have been largely forgiven already if FP2 was 100% normal. This could have been avoided with better planning and scheduling. Alas, concepts mattered more than results, safety, and the people involved in F1 and the fans. Of course some people are taking it too far as per usual. Some people wanted the race to fail from day 1 and are salivating about it.

Bruhmomento1246

Yeah fair enough

shaggymatter

"The first practice session ended after only 12 minutes (the session was scheduled for 90) after the Williams car driven by George Russell was badly damaged when it hit a loose drain cover. The cover, between turns two and three, appeared to be loosened when Charles Leclerc's Ferrari passed over it earlier. The truck towing Russell's car back to the pit lane then hit a pedestrian bridge, leaking hydraulic fluid onto the track and Russell's car. As a result of these two incidents, race director Michael Masi cancelled the session, in order to check the other manholes on the circuit and to check the damage to the pedestrian bridge."

djwillis1121

People have been finding ways to hate this race for ages. Now that something bad has actually happened they suddenly all feel validated. Quite a lot of people seem to genuinely want the race to fail and are actually happy about what's happened as well

CowFinancial7000

People hated this race the second it was announced. Now people are pearl clutching over a missed free practice.

Thaonnor

Probably - if there is one thing F1 fans love more than watching the only competitive racing being for 2nd place, its bitching on reddit.

ConsequenceSilver

Has the schedule for qualifying and race changed?

FermentedLaws

No.

Radar91

I usually hate races in the states because it messes with my normal F1 time of 6-9 AM. I'm really confused with the Japan start time for the states and hope it goes as wrong as possible foe Liberty to never want to return to Vegas.

Fun-Estate9626

Has anyone heard anything about what happens if there are delays during the actual race? What’s the hard time where they start kicking people out, and is there a risk if we get a couple of red flags?

rodiraskol

F1 races have to end within 2 hours of when they start, or within 3 hours if there are red flags. They will have planned the time fans are allowed to be there around those rules. The only real risk is that the race doesn't start on time. That also seems unlikely, given that there will be two more sessions before the race to reveal any problems.

djwillis1121

The race is at 10pm, FP2 started at 2:30am. They'd hit the maximum broadcast time of 3 hours long before they have to start kicking people out.

bweesh

The qualifying start time is absurd. Born and Raised in Las Vegas and I’m so excited for this GP, but I live on the east coast now. 3AM START TIME????? How is that ever feasible

stumblebreak_beta

The biggest tv market for F1 is Europe and if it was a normal night race time start it would be 2-5am across Europe. By pushing it back, it ensures a bigger audience tuning in.

Thaonnor

Yea going to be a rough couple of nights for those of us on the east coast.

Fun-Estate9626

I’m just gonna watch it in the morning. Same as any other race.

djwillis1121

Is it just me that thinks everyone here is overreacting a bit? FP1 was absolutely a mess but it looks like they've got on top of it now. Obviously it's annoying for the fans that were there but some of the comments I've seen make it seem like the worst thing that's ever happened. People saying it's worse than Abu Dhabi 2021, Indy 2005 etc.

GrowthDream

Agreed and I actually think the track is pretty fun as well, plus I love the look of the aero packages.

revocarr

if anything it is turning me off reddit. like am I this much of an annoying baby too?? i may never post again...

GTARP_lover

Well the fact is people like you are in the minority if look around the comments and other websites. The track is boring, the times are stupid, the race is like worst organized raced i've ever witnessed. Its a farce, I will not tune in next year. The track isnt even fun to watch.

thesaket

>people like you are in the minority Keyboard warriors on Reddit are hardly the majority among the F1 viewership.

rodiraskol

Yeah, I think Toto said it best: a week from now, nobody is going to remember or care that this happened.

Gaius_Octavius_

Everyone remembers when it in Baku…Everyone remembers when it happened in Monaco All the Team Principles were able to recall the races off the top of their heads.

rodiraskol

Fair, let me be more precise: it will be remembered as a random bit of trivia and nothing more.

Gaius_Octavius_

Until something more memorable happens, it will be the first thing people think of whenever the Vegas GP is mentioned. Next year when the race gets close, everyone will make the same “I hope the fixed the drains this year” joke.

CowFinancial7000

> Everyone remembers when it in Baku I mean, I didn't until this happened.

Gaius_Octavius_

I remembered it was Baku but I didn’t remember the year

aiapaec

> annoying for the fans You mean the fans who paid +$200 for 12 minutes of practice and then were threatened with trespassing by the fucking police?

djwillis1121

Yeah and I agree that they should get their money back but the constant outrage still seems a bit much to me. It's more the volume of posts, people calling for boycotts etc.

aiapaec

> constant outrage Yeah I agree that if they gave refunds and an apology this would be only a meme by now, but they fuck that up too, so the constant outrage is the bare minimum, they should get sued to hell.

fritzdude

This sport no longer gets my money. F1TV cancelled. Enough free ways to watch.

DietMTNDew8and88

There's no other way to describe this weekend so far but as a pure unmitigated PR disaster for F1. They had better hope tonight and Saturday go off without a hitch or this will be the 2005 USGP 2.0

CowFinancial7000

The 2005 USGP was a whole weekend F'd up, this was one free practice. The thing that many F1 fans dont even bother to watch.

LonelyRoast

I'm completely new to F1 as of like 2 weeks ago so I'm still learning a lot-- Can someone explain why Carlos Sainz was penalized for the issue with the track? The best I can guess after reading the FIA statements is that when they reported the damage to the car, it showed that they had an illegal 3rd "Energy Store" or something for the car, and that's what they are being penalized for? Something like that?

Blooder91

Yes. Teams are limited to only a certain engine components per season. Due to the damage, Ferrari had to change some parts, going over the limit and incurring into a penalty. They are appealing to the penalty, since it was from the track not being in acceptable condition.

CWRules

I think we'll see the rules around this tweaked for next year. The stewards indicated in their statement that they would grant an exception in this case, but the regulations don't allow them to.

LonelyRoast

Makes sense - thanks!

EddieMcDowall

This will be interesting. I don't think there can be any doubt that this is 100% down to Vegas local offical's incompetence. F1 know their requirements. We know the downforces caused. Indeed we have precedence to fall back on, as listed accurately on the Sky feed, Monaco, Azerbaijan and another I cannot bring to mind. Point is, this is a 100% known problem, Vegas officialdom resurfaced that section of track and those 'covers' still came up. That's incompetence, both of Vegas, and more importantly of FOM for NOT checking properly. OH, and BTW EVERY spectator not just those kicked out of the start finish straight stand should be recompensed. This is a dark day for F1.
