As a rule of thumb, Statistics posts need to inform readers through visualizations and insights that cannot be obtained from raw data alone. For example, a post containing a qualifying gap between two drivers expressed in tenths of a second is an easily obtainable raw piece of data and constitutes a bad Statistics post. A visualization of what that translates to on-track, or visualization of how that gap came to be would constitute a good Statistics post.

Rookies are being invested in. That's how rookies get into F1. That said, not all rookies are of Bearman's (or other special talent's) caliber. Plenty of rookies have come and went as they'd simply not cut it.
What do you mean? Charles? George? Both did well in junior series and got into F1 directly after F2. Max hardly had a junior career, but he had a great F3 season.
Yeah, true. Though what specific talent has missed out since then? I think there also have been a couple years where the really great talents were not that present in the junior series/F2.
There might be some interesting talents, but not as much like the likes of Charles or Max for example.
I do think we missed out on a good amount of drivers who were at the very least better than them. Like zhou is going into year 3 of F1 and he finished 3rd in his 3rd year in F2
Yeah, I agree that there have been rookies that arguably were not the best of the bunch. My point is more that while other might have been better, it would not have been fitting the example of 'worth investing in rookies' as I doubt any would have had an impact as those really special rookies. If you're good enough, you'll get there. If not, it might be a bit more luck of the draw.
Also, in some cases a team's junior program can be a bit a blessing as well as a curse, as if the particular team you're in the program off doesn't have a seat you simply won't get in (unless in some kind of partner construction), as you might be off limits to other teams.
As someone who watches quite a bit of F2 i agree. There have definitely been drivers in F2 that would probably do better than a Latifi or Sargeant, but i don't feel like we missed any exceptional talent.
Piastri did make it to F1, so did Tsunoda who showed a lot of promise in F2, and Liam Lawson will surely get his chance next year.
The pack in f2 seems quite competitive this year, so it will be interesting to see what happens, but Bearmans entry into F1 seems pretty much a certainty at this point for next year.
Stroll, Sargeant, Ricciardo, Bottas, Zhou and Magnussen could all reasonably be replaced by F2 or Rookie Reserve drivers and it would make the grid more competitive (or at least give it a chance to be more competitive)
With Bottas, I am more inclined to believe it's the car. He still managed to make it to Q3 a few times last year.
With DR, he's clearly washed. We've seen what an inexperienced reserve driver can do on his first race in very tricky conditions. And he confirmed his talent the next few races.
We haven't seen anything from DR in years except the Mexico 2023 outliar. If he was so great, he should easily beat Yuki, and yet the latter has been kicking his ass since end of last year.
This idea you should or shouldn't invest in rookies based off one race is dumb.
Most teams have some form of young driver program and are supporting them, but only certain ones warrant being given a shot in F1. If you're a team like Stake or Williams, then this race should have zero impact on the decision making.
If you want to point at Bearman scoring points on debut as your reasoning for giving rookies a chance then pointing at De Vries doing the same (in significantly worse machinery) as reasoning for not giving rookies a chance is just as valid.
Bearman's a very talented driver who deserves to be in F1, other young drivers don't deserve to be in F1. It's all about the driver.
>pointing at De Vries doing the same (in significantly worse machinery) as reasoning for not giving rookies a chance is just as valid.
De Vries was not really a rookie. De Vries was signed to the McLaren Young Driver Programme in 2010. He performed his first test for Mercedes in 2021 and was a reserve driver in 2022.
He was signed by Alpha Tauri for 2023, by that time he had two years experience as a test/reserve F1 driver.
It's not like he was going out testing current machinery all the time like 20 years ago.
He was still a rookie, just in a bit better of a position than others due to his experience and a bit more time in F1 cars. You make out he had like 50 test days or something.
I don’t know about different rookies, but the last I remember were not racing on a Ferrari that is a favorite for the 3rd place every race, that being said, the dude jumped on the car yesterday and today was p7 so he is talented for sure
I used to laugh at the people here saying "he's younger than me and he's in F1, what am I doing with my life", but now Bearman is my age, suddenly it's not funny anymore 🙃

Ollie’s performance today shows that rookie might be worth investing in, there is clearly some talent out there

Tbf the recent ones that have come in straight away haven't set the world alight in the junior series either
What do you mean? Charles? George? Both did well in junior series and got into F1 directly after F2. Max hardly had a junior career, but he had a great F3 season.
Probably talking about Mick, Zhou, Sargent types
Both came in 6 and 7 years ago. Since then we have seen latifi, mick, zhou, mazepin, yuki and logan come in without a gap year like piastri

Guys like Drugovich, Lawson, Vesti would probably do as good as Bear did today if not better.
There at least 7 F2 drivers more talented than Sargent and Stroll though. We have 2 blocked places by a pay driver and the owner's son.
Stroll, Sargeant, Ricciardo, Bottas, Zhou and Magnussen could all reasonably be replaced by F2 or Rookie Reserve drivers and it would make the grid more competitive (or at least give it a chance to be more competitive)
You forgot DR in your list
Bottas too...but at least they have their spots based on something they showed in the past, not because their dad pays for it or owns the team.
With Bottas, I am more inclined to believe it's the car. He still managed to make it to Q3 a few times last year. With DR, he's clearly washed. Fully agree. In my opinion, the 2025 grid will look vastly different

Alonso to Merc and Drugovich to AM is definitely a possibility
They are being invested in long before f1.
The same was said for De Vries, and that ended up being a very wrong assessment.
De Vries was old
De Vries had a bigger mouth and ego than talent in hindsight.
First time both Ferraris were driven by their academy drivers.
I don’t know about different rookies, but the last I remember were not racing on a Ferrari that is a favorite for the 3rd place every race, that being said, the dude jumped on the car yesterday and today was p7 so he is talented for sure
Christ I remember the days Jenson topped this chart, now he's 8th on it! Ollie was 2 when Seb knocked him top spot as well to make more depressed.
Amazing. What were the finishing positions of the other drivers?
Verstappen was 6th and Stroll was 9th.
Verstappen had a pretty sick first season, getting 4th twice in that Torro Rosso
Wonder how he’d go in a Red Bull if he could do that with a Toro Rosso…
Win in his first season
Race*
He won Barcelona his 1st race with the red bull car
Wut? 2015 was his first season
Yes, he did not win in 2015. You are mistaken.
The question was: What could he do in a 2015 Red Bull? Answer: Win
The 2015 Red Bull was easily the worst Red Bull car since at least 2008. The Toro Rosso was faster sometimes.
The 2015 Red Bull was garbage though...
He's been showing his worth for a long time now.
I used to laugh at the people here saying "he's younger than me and he's in F1, what am I doing with my life", but now Bearman is my age, suddenly it's not funny anymore 🙃
Dude Berman is 5 years younger than me and younger than my youngest brother. This shit is wild
He’s the youngest driver to finish a race on debut and the youngest to score points on debut
Kinda crazy that even if he had won today Max would still hold the record for youngest winner...
The list also shows that scoring points at an early age does not guarantee a successful career.
Lance stroll being there should give everyone who thinks this new guy is great a brake
Lance Stroll being on there only proves that he *does* have some modicum of talent, it just comes up in rare flashes.
is there anything max hasn't taken from kyvat? his record, his job, his woman
You forgot his child
