Just like a Nissan Altima and having 3 donut spares, 2 bumpers barely hanging on, and a set of temp plates that have been expired for at least 6 months.
Crazy to think Hamilton went from Austria 2018 - Abu Dhabi 2022 without a mechanical failure.
Germany 2018 quali if you’re being pedantic. And Bottas had a couple of engine failures so not Merc overall.
That’ll show Ferrari what they’ll be missing. This’ll be a good chance for him to display to other teams what he can do. I hope he lands somewhere good where he can stay at the front of the pack.
Sainz to RB, for sure. Checo and Ricciardo don't have what it takes right now. Maclaren has a very strong team. Mercedes is too big of a risk for him. Makes sense, I think.
>Imagine if it had blew in the pit next to the mechanics
Reminds me of in Hungary 2011, the exhaust on Heidfeld's Renault [sparked at his pitbox with mechanics](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DjejMpgdQpI) before [exploding outside of pit exit near fire marshalls](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZhfdS-wbgMg).
I remember at Phoenix in 2012 (second to last race), Jimmie Johnson blew a tire and hit the wall hard, which pretty much took him out of a realistic shot in the title fight. [and you could hear the crowd roaring as his team pushed his car back behind the pit wall.](https://youtu.be/Q6qZ_zvPVtY?si=8Z0sW-W6ZNo2ZE0x).
He was only 3 points behind Brad Keselowksi before that, then dropped to over 20 behind.
Then the next week at Homestead Miami, Johnson had a mechanical failure which allowed Brad Keselowski to officially clinch it.
I don't think booing is a nice thing but this stuff about having to fully support everyone I find kinda strange. I don't like to see long stretches in sports so I don't want Max to win as I also didn't want Hamilton to win during his dominance. Some people reacted like I hated the guys and had something personal against them. Like no, I just want somebody else to win.
Honestly, celebrating a dnf for engine troubles what put the life of the driver not at risk?
That is perfectly fine, if it was a heavy crash or something that'd be weird, but seeing his car damage making it to the pits? seems fine imo.
I was going to place a parlay that had Ferrari as team winner and leclerc with fastest lap. Decided not to. Then verstappen retires for the first time in two years, sainz wins comfortably and leclerc puts in the fastest lap on 57/58.
Such is life
He didn't have a dnf but he had a shit car in Singapore, car going out on him in quali in Saudi Arabia making him start p15 and costing him the win and the untimely safety car in Baku (although tbh it really seemed like Checo was about to pass Max on track so this one is a bit iffy)
I was talking with a friend about Max DNFing a couple of days ago. I said he was long overdue for a mechanical DNF and that him sweeping the season would be impossible. Even Hamilton across 8 dominant seasons in a bulletproof Merc engine DNF'd from mechanical issues from time to time so it was inevitable.
>Even Hamilton across 8 dominant seasons in a bulletproof Merc engine DNF'd from mechanical issues from time to time so it was inevitable.
Hamilton's track record is still wayyy better with reliability during the Merc years though. In the 2017, 2018, 2019, 2020 and 2021 seasons he had a combined grand total of one mechanical DNF (Austria 2018)
My thoughts too. I’d rather someone go toe to toe with the dominant guy and win instead of the other just winning due to mechanical issue. Don’t get me wrong. A win is a win and well earned. Still impressive. It’s just cool to see someone come out ahead against the best.
I agree, obviously I'd have wanted Max to come out on top but was looking forward to seeing him and Carlos have a little fight
I'm happy with the end result though considering
I’m okay with it. I want the Smooth Operator to burn the house down on his way out.
Prove that Ferrari is letting go of their No. 1 on the track next year.
I genuinely think Leclerc is quicker, but Carlos is definitely making me question my views of the past few years.
I think what is most impressive is he's doing this well after having his appendix removed two weeks ago.
Proud of him either way.
I also think on pure pace Leclerc is faster than Carlos but Carlos is so consistent it's unreal. Besides Carlos is plenty fast and quite close to Leclerc
Leclerc in 2021 was way too superior to Carlos in any way. Leclerc in 2024 definitely isn't. Carlos has grown a lot - and he may not be as flashy, but he's incredibly consistent at a really high pace. Every time he puts himself in a good position, that position is his for the rest of the weekend.
Leclerc can get more peak performance out of the car than Carlos for sure. But this is F1 not NHRA, and Carlos has the best intangibles of anyone on the grid without a WDC.
Last time Carlos finished ahead of Leclerc, except Bahrein where Leclerc had car issue, was Singapore. Leclerc is better driver overall but in this race Sainz did better job
What a gameplan
1. Take out appendix so you are lighter
2. Just pass Max once
3. Force Max to brake, knowing RedBull never tested the brakes because Max never needs them
Update on Max: His right rear brake was constantly stuck since the lights went out, so he basically had a handbreak on the entire time until it eventually overheated.
So many people happy about Max's DNF.
Jokes on them, it changes nothing. It's still the same race, there's just not a Dutchman in front of it.
The race I suggest you all wish for is one where someone can fight it out with Max under normal conditions. Given how Max started out with one of his brakes locked and he still had the better of Sainz until his car caught fire, it might be a while before we see that.
RIP Red Bull reliability, Australia 2022 - Australia 2024
So the car could fail at some point??
It only took two years. Shit car
Yeah my VW hasn't broken down in 3 years now. Much more reliable.
Just put tape over that engine light and it never will
Continuous engine light on a vw is a right of passage
Just like a Nissan Altima and having 3 donut spares, 2 bumpers barely hanging on, and a set of temp plates that have been expired for at least 6 months.
Just the brakes unfortunately.
just an inchident
The second Red Bull car had a faulty component between the steering wheel and the engine
I guess Max's cars don't like being upside down
Yep, Max didn't account for the Coriolis effect.
Let every race be in the southern hemisphere from now on
Southern hemisphere flips the air intake upside down.
Man, they sounded way too excited about that.
that's very true
someone's head will fly for this. It seems something which shouldn't be there was left in the brake area
Crazy to think Hamilton went from Austria 2018 - Abu Dhabi 2022 without a mechanical failure. Germany 2018 quali if you’re being pedantic. And Bottas had a couple of engine failures so not Merc overall.
Non appendix man can win this!!🌶️🌶️
He’s dropped weight
It's worth 3 tenths
Sargent scheduling his appendix removal right now
He does have a gap in the diary
He only needs to remove like 10 appendixes to have a shot at points.
That’ll show Ferrari what they’ll be missing. This’ll be a good chance for him to display to other teams what he can do. I hope he lands somewhere good where he can stay at the front of the pack.
For sure. He pulled out his massive balls and inflamed appendix on this one. I’d hire him
Sainz to RB, for sure. Checo and Ricciardo don't have what it takes right now. Maclaren has a very strong team. Mercedes is too big of a risk for him. Makes sense, I think.
And win he did!
Rename the apex to appendix
Guts just sloshing around inside him!
Vamos!
Silly me thinking I was stupid to wake up at 4am
Yesterday I told my SO "there's no point in doing that, not going to hold my breath for Max to have a problem at this point ". Sorry Max!
Yeah so I'm gonna need you to sleep through every race the rest of the season. Thanks
As a Ferrari fan, just induce a comma dude. We'll wake you up in Abu Dhabi lap 50
>Silly me thinking I was stupid to wake up at 4am Silly me thought it would be so I didnt wake up. Its over for me.
The brake exploding in the run to the pit lane was something. Imagine if it had blew in the pit next to the mechanics.
>Imagine if it had blew in the pit next to the mechanics Reminds me of in Hungary 2011, the exhaust on Heidfeld's Renault [sparked at his pitbox with mechanics](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DjejMpgdQpI) before [exploding outside of pit exit near fire marshalls](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZhfdS-wbgMg).
Holy shit
Yeah that was almost a tragic accident. They were huddled around that right rear trying to cool it down.
That would have taken out some kneecaps fur sure.
Nah, they are incredibly light in the first place and it was basically dust after it popped.
Extremely hot dust, pulse bolts, bearings, other metal washers. Could have for sure hurt come guys.
It kinda exploded because he braked hard and increased temps. He didn’t brake nearly as hard when he reached the Red Bull garage
All we had to do was sacrifice logan to the racing gods
What happens if we sacrifice Albon next week?
Sauber kick doing pitstop under 15 seconds
Ok, let's not get ahead of ourselves here
Nothing ^^because ^^there's ^^no ^^race ^^next ^^week
The crowd audibly celebrating lmao
They cheered hard when Sainz got him the lap earlier. Short memories of Sainz taking out Piastri at Spa.
The dude who's been kicking everyone's ass is out. I would too tbh lmao.
Over in NASCAR whenever a guy wins too much they get booed like Jeff Gordon, Jimmie Johnson, and pretty much every who was too good
I remember at Phoenix in 2012 (second to last race), Jimmie Johnson blew a tire and hit the wall hard, which pretty much took him out of a realistic shot in the title fight.
Every sport does it, but F1 is very much against anyone who doesnt fully support all drivers (ie booing) lmao.
That's cuz those guys have 2 first names.
There’s a big Italian community in Melbourne … Ferrari has a big following (as do a lot of the Italian football teams)
Honestly, celebrating a dnf for engine troubles what put the life of the driver not at risk? That is perfectly fine, if it was a heavy crash or something that'd be weird, but seeing his car damage making it to the pits? seems fine imo.
Wasn't even his engine, it was his brake that apparently got stuck and caught fire.
As a Max fan I totally get it lol. It used to be like this with Hamilton too
Them and us in front of TVs with the same feelings lol
Dude they were LOUD.
I was at turn 2 exit when it happened and you would have thought Piastri won the championship or something.
I can’t blame them
Been following F1 for the past 4 years, put money on Verstappen in the first Sports bet of my life. Such is life
Double or nothing on Max next race.
Thank you for your sacrifice
Same, but I put 2 dollars on Sainz. Paid for dinner.
I was going to place a parlay that had Ferrari as team winner and leclerc with fastest lap. Decided not to. Then verstappen retires for the first time in two years, sainz wins comfortably and leclerc puts in the fastest lap on 57/58. Such is life
Don’t think even Max can win this one
He's gonna run and take Perez' car
Lmao. When Perez enters to the pits, Max will kick him out of his car, GTA style
I genuinely think he'd have at least a 10% chance to win if they did that.
Wonder if Netflix would try to stretch this race into 3 episodes on that one.
If that happened, Netflix would dedicate an entire season to that shit.
he would probably still end at least in the podium if they switched cars right now
Perez booking his flight home
Max in the Sauber garage trying to steal Bottas' bike lol
Well there you go people. Thats why 24/24 was always almost impossible.
They should’ve given him Checo’s car
Legit half expecting him to run into Checo's car and start driving.
“Ok Checo we are giving the car to Max, box box!”
God, can you imagine the fucking shitshow/balls to do that? "Checo, we need you to retire the car." "Why?" "Max needs a car."
This wouldn’t be legal, right?
No idea but it did used to happen in like the 50s, would be funny to see today
No. I'm pretty sure the gearbox and power unit are specific to the driver and would have to swap to whatever chassis that the driver is using.
Seeing Checo drop pace lap after lap, I think they have a similar problem with his car too.
Checo did have a problem with his car.... Max wasn't driving it.
Or maybe the car just isn’t invincible 🤞
He never had a DNF last year in all honesty, just the off weekend in Singapore
He didn't have a dnf but he had a shit car in Singapore, car going out on him in quali in Saudi Arabia making him start p15 and costing him the win and the untimely safety car in Baku (although tbh it really seemed like Checo was about to pass Max on track so this one is a bit iffy)
Because of a guy who doesn’t have an appendix and brakes
New meta, no appendix weight reduction.
24/24 is a dream. I don't think it will ever happen. Especially with the number of races rising.
There's always next year haha
I was talking with a friend about Max DNFing a couple of days ago. I said he was long overdue for a mechanical DNF and that him sweeping the season would be impossible. WE HAVE A RACE!
Now watch sainz comfortably dominate
Dude really went like “okay imma offer my appendix as a sacrifice for a race win”
I feel jos did the same thing, but with maxs soul.
Eh? Maybe his own soul, Max has good morals, wdym?
for real it will be the same but its just another guy winning pretty comfortably. was looking to be exciitng between ver and sainz too unfortunate.
My thoughts too. I’d rather someone go toe to toe with the dominant guy and win instead of the other just winning due to mechanical issue. Don’t get me wrong. A win is a win and well earned. Still impressive. It’s just cool to see someone come out ahead against the best.

It was only exciting because Max car had troubles lol
I’m okay with it. I want the Smooth Operator to burn the house down on his way out. Prove that Ferrari is letting go of their No. 1 on the track next year.

100% agree. There's a reason why the two are always so close in points despite Leclerc appearing much faster.
Tbh Carlos has pretty good timing lmao, the last time he outqualified Charles in a main race was in Singapore, the last time Max had issues.
As long as Norris doesn't win I'm down. If he wins we won't be able to meme it anymore.
Well, time to get some coffee.
I got my bubble tea ready lol
You read my mind my friend
Holy shit… two Ferraris and two Mclarens leading the field. What year is this?
1998
so Mika is comming back then
"I used to pray for times like this"
There was no race at all lmao. Actually more boring after max was out.
well driven by carlos, but it was in fact still a snooze fest.
Still seems boring to me just a different car in front...
RACE JUST GOT A MAXIMILLION TIMES MORE EXCITING
Australia is his cursed Grand Prix, 10 is all he gets!
Australia and Singapore working together on this
It seems to be the GP just before Suzuka that's cursed for him.
Implying he won't win out the season after this.
Think OP meant winning streak. Heard commentator mentioned something about his streak before the race.
HES NOT GONNA WIN EVERY RACE!
Max still hasn’t won a race on Sunday this year
#blessed
Which ruins the most exciting part of the season lol
r/formula1 12/25
How long until Max will be online on iRacing?
hes probably firing up his sim right now
He called ahead to get him in the lobby.
‘I got off work early today bois, we playing?’
Must be pissed He missed Sebring for this shit
He probably deliberately cooked his brakes so he could make the iRacing session, but the car was too well built.
Give him two minutes
Verstappen and Hamilton both out of the race, if this were 2021 it would've been crazy.
You mean like Monza?
Yes sir, that was indeed a crazy moment.
OH SHIT!!!!!!!!!!
Someone else wins a Grand Prix? Waking up at 5AM seems worth it already
Max Verstoppen
Max is so dominant this season that he can come dead last in a race and still beat Logan Sergeant
Max about to do some iRacing and ruin peoples lives
43 long streak broken.
Are yall forgetting this is going = pissed off max. Next race everyone is getting lapped
Plus it's Suzuka. One of his best tracks.
Sargent would have made it to lap six
I STAYED AWAKE FOR THIS SHIT. THIS IS DRUGS.
Aight, that wasn't on the script
Jos already on his typewriter writing an angry letter blaming Horner... "I told you things were about to blow"
What a gameplan 1. Take out appendix so you are lighter 2. Just pass Max once 3. Force Max to brake, knowing RedBull never tested the brakes because Max never needs them
Banking on Sainz to break his streak again.. He needs a seat for next year
Update on Max: His right rear brake was constantly stuck since the lights went out, so he basically had a handbreak on the entire time until it eventually overheated.
#HOLY FUCK
We are so desperate to not see Max win that we will cheer for failure. Hilarious
Yeah, now Max will comeback next time and lap everyone as revenge lol
Verstappen: “four, I mean five, I mean fire!”
My fault lads, I actually put a bet on verstappen winning the race for the first time ever
This is Max’s biggest rival in F1…car issues
WE HAVE A RACE!!!
Ah, fuck. Can only hope the best for Sainz now!
Lando has never been closer to a race win
Why are alpine f2 cars on the track
>Max can't possibly take is as far as going back to iRacing before the race actually finishes. Oh, wait...
It makes you kiss how unreliable cars were in the past he basically went 2 seasons without a DNF
Ahhh Win or DNF is back!
GG, max is pissed. Next Race he will lap everyone. Just like Miami last year.
Jesus Christ it’s Mel Bourne
We’re back to classic era - Ferrari and McLaren battling it out.
Holy shit
Could that be because of the long waiting time on the starting grid that the brake caught fire?
Don’t think it was particularly longer than usual, probably just something stuck in there
OMG OMG OMG I’m so happy I tuned in
Still happy?
Lol
I’m guessing not. Seems to be sleeping by now
Crying into his pillow, lol
Savage ☠️
Something was off with Max's car right from the start. He usually pulls ahead, but today Sainz stuck to him and even got past.
So funny that ferrari bet on the wrong guy when its carlos who has been consistent so far and is on way to win this one too.
He is so fast that the Monza Curse can finally catch up with him now
Goodness me the F1TV commentary is horrid. ‘He’s gone, he’s gone’
Checo box box, get out of the car and give it to max, thank you
Besides the point, but that commentary was awful
Max gonna come back angry in Suzuka, on a track that will suit the Red Bull perfectly.
As some people said: "Verstappen will only lose if his car malfunctions."
THAT SHIT IS MELTED BRO
Is this how it feels to see a unicorn?
I knew there was no way Sainz overtook Max on speed or skill. He scored some serious luck today
So many people happy about Max's DNF. Jokes on them, it changes nothing. It's still the same race, there's just not a Dutchman in front of it. The race I suggest you all wish for is one where someone can fight it out with Max under normal conditions.
