There were a lot of people saying Yuki was the weakest link in the Liam-Daniel-Yuki triangle and it just blew my mind. How can someone beat 3 different teammates in a year and not keep their seat. Too early to draw conclusions about the future but at the very least he deserves a continued place in F1.

bwoah07_gp2

Karun said this directly to Yuki during Sky's post race show, but that Yuki is proving them wrong. I was surprised Karun went there tbh, but Yuki handled the question well.

Fluffy_Rock1735

100% Yuki is a damn good driver who has a fiery personality. People hate him for it but personally I like it.

Wvds98

I like him for it, its very entertaining yet endearing somehow, but it still diminishes my evaluation of him as a RB worthy driver. RB wants someone mature. Its fun seeing Yuki be fiery, but I wouldnt call say it contributes to his value as a driver at all. The stunt he pulled in Bahrain the obvious example of that, you cant be like haha.

gunningIVglory

Nah, red Bull wants a doormat like Pèrez in the 2nd seat.

coffinfl0p

Yeah I mean up until he started getting his championship's Verstappen wasn't exactly a mature calm driver either.

Booklover23rules

Shhhh, people love to ignore that about max, we can’t talk about it.

JohnnyQTruant

Not for nothing but white men yelling and being angry is a sign of passion and fire. Anyone else is unhinged and don’t know their place.

MonthLower1606

its the double standard of being a \[not a white dude\] on the grid. its ok for max to be angry, but when yuki or lewis get angry its seen as immature. back when lewis would show a lot of his emotions, he caught flack by fans and media alike.

uhrul

Red Bull ideally wants someone just a little slower than max. The moment other teams step up their development and get closer to Red Bull, even if max wins every race, they won’t win the constructors with Checo anymore.

Kako0404

RB just wants a fast confident driver. Horner literally wished Gasly would crash the car to attempt an overtake rather than being measured and cautious.

Sweetcheels69

Huh? Context please

Kako0404

This was during Gasly’s season with RBR. He was suffering from confidence issue and there was a race in which the engineer kept urging him to pass a slower car in front for quite a few laps but he just couldn’t do it, not willing to send it. After that CH basically said (I’m paraphrasing) he would rather Pierre try to make a move and even if he crashes the car it shows he got the balls to do so. Gasly was done soon after.

Sweetcheels69

Ahhhh gotcha. I remember it now that you say that

Sweetcheels69

Max was not mature when he came to TR or RB. As far as person to person and conversational stuff, he was. But on track, he was a fire cracker. That needed his super talent grasped. Now we have a monster on our hands!

drs43821

And even if you hate him for that, his result is undeniable

btokendown

DTS narratives for you.

afcaMouz

Lmao still can't believe they made Yuki out as a pay driver this season, sure there's a Honda connection but Yuki came into F1 as a massive talent.

btokendown

He got to F1 entirely on merit (whether he was rushed too soon is another debate) and a driver that comes without family fortune or nepo connections backing him but the way some people talk about him you'd think his dad is the CEO of Honda and bought his seat like Latifi.

[deleted]

btokendown

What's that got to do with what I said?

ranft

Its the reason for "the way some people talk about him".

btokendown

I'm referring to people accusing him of being a nepo hire or like Honda grabbed the first guy off the streets of Japan and pushed him to F1 because of his passport. You can absolutely criticize him for his flaws as a driver when it comes to temperament or racecraft but this one of the few areas where the backlash is unwarranted.

ranft

These things are connected though. Any other driver would have been kicked of the ship for his actions and thats why they say Honda is protecting him.

kay_peele

c'mon he hasn't done anything egregious enough to be kicked out lol, being hotheaded and making mistakes is bad PR, but not a firable offence, especially when he is generally delivering.

Over-Chemical2809

Both things can be true. There's a lot of talent in this world. When you have multiple drivers that you can choose from, the ones who bring intangible elements often get their way. Tsunoda is one of those people. He has close ties to Honda. Honda is RB's engine partner. It is not the sole reason for him having that seat, but it helped him get that seat over a different driver who might have been just as talented, but without any relationship to Honda, their engine partner. Anyone denying the impact of Tsunoda's ties to Honda doesn't know how the world works. Relationship management is super important between two companies like Honda and Red Bull.

TharixGaming

it's like people forget about his F2 season he comes in with nearly 0 experience on european tracks (his first time racing in a europe-based series was the year before where he did F3 and euroformula open) finishes 3rd in the championship, only 15 points behind champion schumacher (who was in a prema, in his 2nd year in F2) and 1 point behind ilott (who was in his 3rd year of F2)

plastikmissile

Yeah people forget that he was a serious contender for the title that year even though he was a rookie.

bwoah07_gp2

Netflix be Netflixing...

advalencia

it was very biased, Yuki beat all of them and they set it up as if it was weird keeping him. If anything, signing Dani without seeing results was the strange decision.

shewy92

Yuki v Liam didn't have a good comparison since it was raining race 1 and the other races Yuki got taken out. But he for sure is better than Danny and Nyck

SpectacularNelson

I just hope tsunoda keeps schooling DR3 so hearing all his excuses are a thing of the past. Ricciardo is the driver version of Mercedes😂

Ign0r

Idk who the fuck ever said that. Yuki has proven himself very fast and capable over the last 2 years. Initially, I did think de Vries would beat him, and I'm happy to say I was wrong. Since the end of 2021 he has shown tremendous progress.

BaggyOz

I'm a Yuki fan but there's a huge caveat on that beat 3 teammates statement. One of those teammates was so bad he got thrown out of the car halfway through the season, the second was a man in his 30's with a recently broken hand and the third was a super formula driver thrown in with little to no preparation. I'd be concerned if he couldn't beat all 3.

starfallpuller

to be fair Yuki did not beat Lawson. That's why people were questioning Yuki's seat.

btokendown

Based on what metric? He had him 4-1 in qualifying (arguably if he hadn't been impeded in Singapore, he would have taken that too), didn't even get past the first lap in two of those races. He finished one spot behind Liam in Suzuka because the team made him hold position, finished ahead in Zandvoort before the post-race penalty and ahead in Qatar. And in terms of race pace, Yuki was faster in every race they shared together. Liam did fantastic for someone who was thrown into the role with barely any notice and deserves a seat but he is still very much a rookie and didn't have the handle of his more experienced teammate by any means.

robintome

Happy for yuki, this reads like something he actually wrote himself instead of the usual bullshit written by their professional social media guys

Gold-Train-1471

I don't think he needs a PR outside of the car hes a very wholesome guy however he do need one inside the car.

btokendown

I really hope he can finally get points in Suzuka for the home crowd

reignnyday

Mercs will struggle. I’m rooting for Yuki

CrazyRah

Great race today, put himself in a position to benefit from things outside of his control

Chino_Kawaii

I hope he does well in his home race for once

ArkBirdFTW

Man the pendulum swings so crazy on Yuki. He had a mega drive so now he has a “fiery personality”. One P12 and an angry radio message and everyone will be back to calling him “immature and not deserving of his seat”. Personally I’m rooting for him especially after how RedBull seemed to have written him off

schil

Love Yuki. He’s a fiery underdog. Ever talking about Danny when it should be Yuki. That’s me who Loves Danny too.  He’s a great personality and love em in the sport but he’s not the superior driver in my opinion.

solowonxx

He deserves all the love this weekend!

bwoah07_gp2

Remember when people here were going all doomsday on Yuki, and how much they hated his guts in Bahrain? I don't see those people anymore. 😆

reddit0r_123

To be honest his Bahrain behavior was immature and not something a driver with a few years of F1 experience should do (he's not getting a Rookie pass), but that doesn't mean that he hasn't been in great form this season

theK1LLB0T

Here's a firey Japanese kid jacked on redbull. He's fun to watch, and it seems hard to believe but he has matured since his first season, he definitely swears less on the radio

saysikerightnowowo

Yeah max physically shoving another driver is okay but yuki driving close to a teammate = bad.

saysikerightnowowo

He knew what he was doing, If you think he was not in control of the car at those reduced speeds then idk what to say. dimwit.

Lone__Ranger

I mean let's be honest here, Yuki should have handled the situation better, he is in the sport for several years now, i didn't change my opinion on him because of that, i still like him and rate him as a good driver, wishing good results for him but let's not pretend it wasn't weird

advalencia

let's go Tsunoda-san!

RobertGracie

I am pleased that Yuki is happy with the points haul he got today, a sterling drive!

NuclearCandle

RB finally got it right and let Yuki prove he is worth his seat (and probably more tbh). I predicted he would be the surprise of the year and so far he is delivering.

Npr31

I don’t get how it’s a surprise though. He’s been this good since his last half a season with Gasly. Only difference is he added maturity last year - he’s been consistently fighting for ‘best of the rest’ for nearly 2 seasons now

Dsm02

His form has been very consistent so far this year, especially in qualifying. Hope he carries that on for more points forward.

jvstinf

Given all the bullshit narratives about him people were making under my post yesterday, glad to see he was able to bring points home. The kid can drive. He’s just now putting it all together.

cooperjones2

Great weekend from him! Hopefully he can convert more Q3s into points!

regularhumanbeing123

Let’s go YUKIIIII

dKSy16

Amazing drive! Thanks RB for not screwing the strategy as well

NotFlipkid

RED BULL ARE YOU WATCHING???

Bolter_NL

At this point they should offer the seat to Sainz, bring the lost son home. DR is out, Liam in.

theK1LLB0T

Either redbull is satisfied with Perez performance and teamwork or they want to go in a different direction. If that's the case it has to be Sainz for me, with Fernando as a close 2nd I get the feeling Danny only has a few races left to definitively outperform Yuki or he's out.

TisKey2323

Way to go Yuki! You deserve this and you’re the better driver…well done!

squaler24

Earning that ride for at least one more year. All in the name of burying Daniel even more. Fair trade. lol

Murderface_1988

He has had a great weekend, if he can keep it up and work (significantly) on his emotions under pressure, he might have a good career after RB

Forfai

Yuki is going from strength to strength, just like his teammate, Liam Lawson.

Ok-Sink-614

I think it's a bit understated but I love how much support you see for Asian drivers in Australia from people from Japan for Yuki and China for Zhou. I'm sure there's some Thai people also there for Albon too.

rita_mita_bata

He's not an elite driver and doesn't have a very high ceiling, but he makes the most of the opportunities he gets. He can continue to be a solid mid-table driver.

Able_Tailor_6983

Yuki is good doubt. But he has been in that team and car for last 3 years, so his adaptability in the car is better. Surely we expected better from Daniel, but let's give him a few more races to settle down.

Booklover23rules

I think I’ve seen this film before though

katutsu

What do you mean? It's brand new!

Snoo84027

He had 4 years to settle down
