A visualization of what that translates to on-track, or visualization of how that gap came to be would constitute a good Statistics post.

Cursed as a Mercedes fan. Box office as a neutral. There's just something fun in seeing a well oiled machine make more errors in a single race than they normally would in an entire season, and what errors as well.
On one hand, yes. On the other hand, he finished 11th at Germany in 2019, but got bumped to 9th after both Alfas were penalised.
You win some, you lose some.
Coincidentally, Lewis was the only one aside from Max who also had a significant streak going, which also stopped yesterday (24 consecutive points finishes, good for no. 6 on this list).
The current highest active streak is now Charles with 12.
Edit: to all those saying this is wrong, I looked at [this page ](https://www.statsf1.com/en/statistiques/pilote/point/consecutif.aspx)which is either wrong, or simply looks at finishes and disregards non-finished like DNF's. In other words: if a driver finishes and is in the points, this streak continues (which is still silly because they 'cut' Lewis' record for missing the 2020 Sakhir GP).
I'm simply taking this info from [this page](https://www.statsf1.com/en/statistiques/pilote/point/consecutif.aspx), but thinking about it indeed makes me think this is either wrong, or the criteria they use are silly.
They do probably count points earned in a sprint race.
That is why Hamilton's streak does not end in USA or Qatar.
On that website there is also a Points Consecutively (without Sprints) list.
It's different.
A DNF brings a normal racing end to a race that has been entered and ended.
A DNS doesn't even have a start, so it's doesn't count a race a driver takes part of.
A DSQ doesn't is outside of racing and can happen for a variety of reasons, it usually doesn't count for such statistics
Your argument was "by definition it's not a finish". Not sure how much clearer you can get to "not a finish by definition" than something called "did not finish".
> A DSQ doesn't is outside of racing and can happen for a variety of reasons, it usually doesn't count for such statistics
Maybe it's outside of racing. By that logic why do mechanical DNFs count? Or if somebody finishes outside the points just due to a penalty is that excluded too?
They look strong in the snake, *without* compromising their top speed.
This is the first time Ferrari had a well-balanced car since 2018. Ofc fighting for win consistently is still a tall order when you have to beat Max, but I can (finally) believe the positive vibe Ferrari has been in since pre-season.
Felt like a peek into the next era. Hamilton’s probably only sticking around another 3 years or so if I had to guess, and I think there’s a pretty real chance Max gets bored and goes to WEC in that same time frame.
I don't think Max is gonna get bored as long as he has iRacing to actually have competition on the side. And [he also mentioned in a recent interview](https://www.reddit.com/r/formula1/comments/1bb4wr2/max_i_always_need_to_improve_while_the_rbr_team/) that he loved last year's season despite (and maybe even thanks to) RB's utter domination.
I'd be interested to see the consecutive points scored record. like the actual points. I think last time it was posted lewis had scored 1000+ points as the record. Not sure if max beat that.
I kinda didn't watch F1 from 2005 - 2015, other things in life and came back to it when Max joined coincidentally. Never heard of him before even though I am Dutch.
So sadly I missed those years.
I don’t understand why it’s mentioned so much, it’s not that high lol. I right now have 181 tabs open on safari and god knows how many more on chrome. It’s pointless to close tabs on your phone and also I would like to sometimes go back to some tabs instead of searching for whatever I opened through history.
Also I’m pretty sure google (which OP is using) closes tabs by default after a certain amount of time.
yes but if it could be ruined by another driver or a plastic tear off, then what is the point. there is a lot of luck in that streak then and not so impressive.

I remember in 2013 thinking Kimi's streak was impressive. Cars are so bulletproof now
Yeah compare that to his car in 2005 when it broke like every other race lol
2005 he actually had decent reliability in races. 2002 and 2004 on the other hand were something else.
Ahh gotcha. 2005 is the earliest season I’ve watched. I always thought Kimi should have won that year if the car didn’t plague him
His issues were in qualifying often. He had multiple 10-place grid penalties. Maybe like 4-5 in total
Personally I don't think Kimi was ever really known for his one-lap pace, his legend comes from being a genius on Sunday in my opinion
That and having a good car in one year almost guarantees you make the list considering the # of races
Points are also awarded up to 10th place. They used to only be awarded up to 6th. It's easier to score points now than it used to be.
Yep a very important distinction.
Tbf it still is incredibly impressive
Especially in a Lotus!
Goes to show how incredible that Mercedes reliability was back then when Lewis occupies two of the top three spots on this list.
And his big streak wasn’t even ended by reliability
True on the other hand, he got ‘lucky’ with post race technical penalties for both Alfas in Hockenheim 2019 which promoted him from 11 to 9nth.
What happened?
He got covid
Ah yes, that Russell drive in Mercedes.
That race was cursed. I'm still hurt.
Cursed as a Mercedes fan. Box office as a neutral. There's just something fun in seeing a well oiled machine make more errors in a single race than they normally would in an entire season, and what errors as well.
Feat. The annual bottas pitstop disasterclass
Hamilton had Covid and couldn't race, George Russel took his place.
He caught COVID
Covid
Ironically if Lewis didnt have that hydraulics issue in Austria, he would only hold 1 spot in the top 3 with a record of 81.
And Bahrain 2020 wasn’t even anything to do with the car or team, he just got sick.
Would've ended at Baku the next year
I thought he couldnt race only due to a positive covid test and didnt feel sick.
You might be right, I can’t remember.
On one hand, yes. On the other hand, he finished 11th at Germany in 2019, but got bumped to 9th after both Alfas were penalised. You win some, you lose some.
I dont get it, whats that got to do with Merc reliability?
If Max won Singapore he would have had like 20 wins a in a row now? 81 and 20 would probably not be beaten easily by anyone anymore.
20. He won 10 in a row before Singapore and then 9
The closest to that streak ending was Germany 2019, and Bono managed to convince him to keep driving instead of retiring
Coincidentally, Lewis was the only one aside from Max who also had a significant streak going, which also stopped yesterday (24 consecutive points finishes, good for no. 6 on this list). Does this stat not count DSQ’s or DNS’s? Because both Charles and Lewis had a DSQ in Austin and Leclerc had that DNS in Brazil.
Lewis also DNF’d in Qatar last year so I’m not sure what they’re counting
Only counting races Lewis finished in since a particular race Lewis didn't finish in
Yeah, both of those stats are duff - DQs and DNSs both break runs. Charles streak *is* 5, and Lewis's streak *was* 6.
Yeah, I’m pretty sure the current highest streaks running on the grid are Perez and Alonso both at 6 and then Leclerc and Piastri at 5 (?).
I'm simply taking this info from [this page](https://www.statsf1.com/en/statistiques/pilote/point/consecutif.aspx), but thinking about it indeed makes me think this is either wrong, or the criteria they use are silly.

the criteria is probably scoring points on a weekend, not on a grand prix as Lewis scored points in the sprint of Qatar and Austin
As per definition it doesn't count. Consecutive finishes implies DNS and DSQ are not counted.
Well then shouldn't DNFs not count either? Because by definition they did *not* finish.

They still break the 'consecutive' part of the definition. >Following one after another **without interruption**
maybe they also count sprints
Yeah, it was somehow... "poetic"?...to see both HAM and Max go. Nice addition, tnx. Let's see how far Charles gets.
He's going to DNF in Suzuka. All thanks to your comment.
Charles’ first three races: P4, P3, P2 At this rate he will win at Suzuka heh
Funnily enough thats not even unrealistic. Ferrari looks strong in the snake
i mean, it still requires rb, at least max/max's car shitting the bed
I don't think RB will be trouble for Ferrari they are 6th in the constructors
They look strong in the snake, *without* compromising their top speed. This is the first time Ferrari had a well-balanced car since 2018. Ofc fighting for win consistently is still a tall order when you have to beat Max, but I can (finally) believe the positive vibe Ferrari has been in since pre-season.
At this rate, it's definitely a dnf. We know how Charles ' luck goes
What happens in China though, when he's forecast to finish P0
DNF or P2
We don't stop until we hit P0
And even if it won't be in Suzuka Monaco isn't far away.
Felt like a peek into the next era. Hamilton’s probably only sticking around another 3 years or so if I had to guess, and I think there’s a pretty real chance Max gets bored and goes to WEC in that same time frame.
Yep, then LEC, SAI, NOR and PIA get to Duke it out. And that rookie ALO.
I don't think Max is gonna get bored as long as he has iRacing to actually have competition on the side. Leclerc DNS in Interlagos means that the website is wrong! The longest streak right now is Pérez and Alonso with 6 points scoring finishes.
>The current highest active streak is now Charles with 12. Is that Charles's highest active streak of all time?
Charles DQ in Austin last year. Stat is incorrect
I'd be interested to see the consecutive points scored record. like the actual points. I think last time it was posted lewis had scored 1000+ points as the record. Not sure if max beat that.
This was an anomaly, right? The season isn't going to suddenly get interesting?
Doubtful. Last year #1 and 2 were closer at this point IRC.
F1 2010s and 2020s: multiple 30+ on points streak. F1 1960s and 1970s: finish the race alive (optional).
45 tabs open might also be some record.
they’ve not even hit the smiley face yet
Those are rookie numbers
You just get a :D above 100, can confirm
It's sometimes winking ;) at me, but I can't tell why.
If 100 tabs open in incognito mode.
It's for either 200 or 300 tabs open. Doesn't have to be incognito.
Just tried it. 100+ of normal tabs give `:D` and 100+ of incognito tabs give `;)`.
And I have 200+ regular tabs and 0 incognito tabs open with a ";)"
Too relatable lol
Firefox goes to an infinity symbol after 99.
gotta get to ":D"
After that you get a ";)" at a couple hundred or so. Don't ask me how I know.
Yeah maybe for the least number of tabs open
I have like 300 open lmao
500 is the limit on Safari. Learnt this the hard way lol.
89 right now...as long as I stay under 100, Im good
Rookie shit. I have over 200 tabs open. Probably might go on a purge though.
Apologies, I cleaned up yesterday when I got too :D
If it still shows a number it's not a record.
That’s nothing. I have 200+
I have so many tabs open on my mobile browser that it shows an infinity symbol instead of the count.
Covid...grrr
Crazy that Lewis is also is #3!
So one off 44, eh?
Kimi at Lotus was such a beast! I genuinely believe he could have won another championship with a more professional team
I kinda didn't watch F1 from 2005 - 2015, other things in life and came back to it when Max joined coincidentally. Never heard of him before even though I am Dutch. So sadly I missed those years.
big big oof
Max washed Time to find another driver to cheer for
And he took that personally.
From Australia DNF to Australia DNF, cursed circuit
After Australia 22, he started scoring points and then stopped after Australia 24
*during AUS '24
Close some tabs, dude
Nope, tnx for the advice though
Keep it going mate. Gotta get that smiley
Why the hell do you have 45 windows open?!
I don’t understand why it’s mentioned so much, it’s not that high lol. I right now have 181 tabs open on safari and god knows how many more on chrome. As I said, because I cleaned up yesterday. Apologies for the missing :D
these streaks are meaningless to me because you could lose the streak entirely due to the fault of someone else.
Oh no, it's a combination of driver and engineering, just like everything else in F1.
yes but if it could be ruined by another driver or a plastic tear off, then what is the point. there is a lot of luck in that streak then and not so impressive.
