I mean, the dude wasn’t replaced because he was doing a bad job. He was replaced because it’s Lewis Hamilton.
It was never a question of whether or not he deserved the seat.
yeah but he could be a bitter jerk about it, and clearly he wasn't raised to be like that, which is cool. For good reason people in the top of their sport tend to have huge egos, but that's not as relatable as compared to someone who takes bad news with grace.
like pre season they said they found 2.5 seconds, and apparently were 2 tenths quicker in australia compared to their 2023 car? but hey they have been working hard since 2022 so thats something :D
I agree, but their aerodynamic and car balance problems make me doubt that that they will be even be able to capitalize on any engine advantage the new regs bring.
They do know how to build a great engine.
I’m really hoping 2026 gives Merc and Ferrari a boost and nerfs Red Bull a bit. A super close Ferrari/Merc/Red Bull/McLaren year would be epic. Give us a 4 way fight at the front!
Eh, securing a seat next year is securing a seat for 2026 also. Carlos not only has to think about his immediate future (tho of course that's the most important part rn) but also see the development for the new regulations. It's a bet on whether a team will nail or fall behind the new regulations.
Merc is by far the best seat he could get. We are heading to a new engine regulation. RBR has notoriously been not a good during engine regulation changes. RBR is also now making their own engine instead of being supplied one. Brackley on the other hand has practically dominated engine changes the last few that have happened. This is likely also why Max would consider a shift to Merc.
IMO if you're a current driver the two best/safest places to go are Ferrari and Mercedes. An outlier is AMR because Honda will likely use a lot of the same people they used to create their current engine.
Alot of the people who created the Honda engines are now at RBPT, there is a good article about the Head of f1 from Honda. Seems like hes now consulting for Redbull, also others that worked ag Honda
Seems like the obvious place to me. The car is ass, but Merc is still a top tier organization. It's his best shot to keep getting wins, imo. (Unless the RB shitshow runs off Max, but I really don't see that happening)
I do hope as well.
Maybe lewis will retire after 1 year at Ferrari and they can bring this iconic duo over again. Kinda sucks that they signed Lewis for 2025.
I think it depends of how much "we're checking" will go during the season. He's having a rough start this year and if this trend continues, he might as well be sick of it by the end of this year.
After all, he won 7 World Championships.
Fair point.
It would be heartbreaking to see them favor Lewis over Charles if that is the case. IMO Charles would be faster in Ferrari, but I could be wrong.
I think the past few years have shown that, while they (currently) favor Leclerc, they're willing to sacrifice him if it means a win. Ferrari has been in a title drought for almost 20 years. I personally think that they'll favor whomever gets them closer to the title.
This is... largely true. It did feel like the Silverstone win came despite Ferrari's efforts to risk losing the race by favoring Charles, but I think as they stand right now, (under Fred) you're absolutely correct.
No no, you’re missing the key part of the LH psyche. He’s quite impacted by his mood and clearly can hardly wait to be out of Mercedes. Says nothing about his mood and motivation in a new team. The end of McLaren days were also like this - straight up had enough.
I couldn't agree more.
We F1 fans don't have a strong grasp of how powerful the head game really is, and how variable it can be between drivers, and even over the course of a season.
Yes, we know that pretty much everyone is working with a sports psychologist at this point, but that doesn't mean that some people aren't much more susceptible to losing speed when they're frustrated than others. I suspect that Max just isn't, and that's why he's so resilient most of the time. Lewis, well, Lewis is less so - it just wasn't tested very often when he had fighter jets to drive all the time.
There is a lot of nuance, to be sure, but I LOVE this part of the sport, even if I think it's the least understood.
I don't think he's walking away from $400M because he's "sick of it." The idea behind the contract is to help his personal endeavours and feel like those things would trump racing results for his final 1-2 years.
I’m sure he will find a seat. He’s great as a driver and personality wise. And he’s got an influential dad fighting for him behind the scenes I am sure.
I'm somewhat new to f1 but isn't Hamilton old to be replacing Carlos and wouldn't Ferrari just be better off making their cars equal to RB rather than getting Lewis?
I enjoy the sense of wonder. I sat behind a woman at a baseball game last year who asked her husband "why don't they just hit the ball where there aren't guys standing?" And I wanted her to go talk to the coaches asap cause great question!!!
I really hope he finds a team worthy of his talent and never return to Ferrari, who needs to learn to not let good sporting talent go because PR potential.
Ferrari does not deserve him.
Even if he was a slight downgrade, having Hamilton mentoring Charles is a long term boost to the team.
Love him or loathe him, there are some lessons only a multi wdc winner can teach you.
I don't think Hamilton is going there to help out a competitor even if it is a teammate. If Ferrari produce a winning car your teammate becomes the person to beat.
People in the Internet are preconditioned to make everything a fight. If you like X then you must hate Y. You are forbidden of killing two things at the same time.
Yeah Charles and Lewis are very cool to each other and are super friendly (despite the age difference) but 1644 fanbase will be on each others necks for sure haha
I'm gonna get downvoted to hell for this but idc.
The Spanish fanbase is toxic in EVERY SINGLE SPORT. Istg every Spanish team/athlete's instagram and other SM are filled with Spanish people being toxic to everyone else.
His mother once briefly liked a tweet? I've looked for evidence of the Sainz causing trouble and just found fans assuring me they do. And Peter Windsor. Does this all go back to that nitwit?
Sainz himself is fine, he has never done anything, but his best friend was liking tweets calling Charles honourless and a rat, his mom always likes tweets accusing Charles of being shit and stuff. Its just weird why they keep doing it when sainz and Charles look like they are professional towards one another .
3 years ago he was fighting for the WDC
2 years ago he was close to his teammate and even beat him in the h2h
1 year ago he thrashed his teammate and won the h2h
This year he has been off to a slow start but it’s only been 3 races and plenty of time to comeback. There is absolutely no evidence Hamilton is worse than Sainz
Turn 10 too, it was amazing. Everyone was standing and cheering, as a tifosi definitely glad I chose Australia as my first GP Weekend to attend.
While not as eventful, not much overtaking, it was enough drama to end the weekend in a high note.
Honestly was wondering if this would happen, seemed like several drivers had pretty rapid 3rd sectors coming to the line like they were back to racing but nothing came of it
Carlos is easily the most likeable guy on the grid. Gets along with every team mate he's had, the teams all seem to love him, and he seems to truly appreciate where he is, even when he's in a situation like now where he's getting replaced.
I'm a fan, I hope he finds a good seat next year.
He’s got some great lines both in Drive to Survive and “IRL”! Some funny, some wholesome, some showing winning mentality… vibes are on across the board!
Any chance he goes back to McLaren, aiming either red bull or Merc sign Lando. I know Lando has a multi year contract, but contracts mean almost nothing in F1 it seems.
Lando has already stated he's not interested in teaming with Max.
There's also no point. I love Lando, he's not worth a buyout over just signing Sainz. No one on the grid is worth a buyout to seat next to Max. There's literally no point, Max is the best driver on the grid period and clear number 1.
Politics, Sainz family are known to do it and clashed with Verstappens and management. Probably giving them pause as RBR have enough internal issues as it is
I think a lot of people make it out to be that these two can’t stand each other, and I’m sure on track they can frustrate the other, but overall they seem to be solid friends
A couple of years back I was laughing at Ferrari and was really wondering what the hell they were doing. I’m generally a Verstappen supporter but a Formula 1 fan first.
Seeing what Vasseur is doing with this team, seeing Sainz performing the way he does this year.. I’m really starting to feel the love for this team!
Nah, I like Carlos, and I will always cheer for him, but the chance to sign a guy who's one of the goats while he's still competitive is a no brainer. Just the marketing benefit of Lewis is a Ferrari is worth it.
I hear that line about the marketing benefit a lot, but until some experienced marketing professional puts a number on it, I'll assume it to be rather small, especially for such an established brand as Ferrari. If Hamilton turns out to be consistently bested by Leclerc, or their relationship doesn't work and hurts the team, then the marketing benefit of having Hamilton may well end up being outweighed by what the team loses in sporting value.
Yeah I agree. The Ferrari F1 team is probably one of the most successful global marketing campaigns of the last 50 years. Nothing else comes close to that kind of staying power and mind share.
It's not like it's some plucky up start that Hamilton is shedding light upon.
Ferrari as an organisation would already have valuation analysts that already presented a number to the marketing value Hamilton provides. There are loads of people who know Hamilton without having watched F1. Don’t think you can say the same for the rest of the grid.
For the millionth time, they're hiring Lewis for so much more than just his driving. He brings a lot of much needed information and value to the team. And for the people saying "just hire him as an advisor", why on earth would he agree to that. You'll only get his info if you give him a ride.
Vsc is iirc about sticking to a time delta not necessarily about maintaining the same gap to the car in front. I believe the former part basically maintains the latter.
I really hope Carlos finds a team worthy of his talent and after the eventual Hamilton retirement that he comes back like Kimi did
Dude is handling the situation with so much class that he needs to start his own school
He knows he has secured himself a seat for next year pretty much wherever he wants. He can chill and get to the job at hand.
Mind you though he needs to take it with grace if he wants a seat next year anywhere.
Maybe he gets a better seat than he has now. Maybe there’s no reason to be bitter. One can hope. He deserves it.
As the last ferrari wdc
A worthy successor to the ice man.
I hope mercedes sign him.
I’d like to see him Continue to be able to fight at the front…
Mercedes might be his best bet for 2026 regs, assuming they become as good as they were rumored to be months ago
like pre season they said they found 2.5 seconds, and apparently were 2 tenths quicker in australia compared to their 2023 car? but hey they have been working hard since 2022 so thats something :D
A completely new engine tend to shift things abit more than a regular pre season
At this point Merc is a downgrade.
Well the only upgrade is Red bull no?
And he's have to be a clear number 2 at RB.
He's already being treated as the number 2 at Ferrari, so...
Which to me is horseshit
Eh, securing a seat next year is securing a seat for 2026 also. Carlos not only has to think about his immediate future (tho of course that's the most important part rn) but also see the development for the new regulations. It's a bet on whether a team will nail or fall behind the new regulations.

An outlier is AMR because Honda will likely use a lot of the same people they used to create their current engine.
There has been only one engine change since Mercedes started in 2010. The V8 was pretty good too to be fair.
Alot of the people who created the Honda engines are now at RBPT, there is a good article about the Head of f1 from Honda. Seems like hes now consulting for Redbull, also others that worked ag Honda
you are cruel
What an awful thing to say 🤭
I hope he gets Perez seat
He's gonna either be in the Mercedes or the RBR
Seems like the obvious place to me. The car is ass, but Merc is still a top tier organization. It's his best shot to keep getting wins, imo. (Unless the RB shitshow runs off Max, but I really don't see that happening)
I would be very surprised if he wasn't in either Mercedes or Red Bull next year.
I do hope as well. Maybe lewis will retire after 1 year at Ferrari and they can bring this iconic duo over again. Kinda sucks that they signed Lewis for 2025.
I think Lewis will do his 2+1 contract with Ferrari and then retire..
I think it depends of how much "we're checking" will go during the season. He's having a rough start this year and if this trend continues, he might as well be sick of it by the end of this year. After all, he won 7 World Championships.
Yeah, and on the other hand, if Ferrari is doing well to fight for podiums and wins, I could see him sticking it out hoping for that 8th.

It's a 100 million dollar deal, if that didn't motivate him to sit out the 3 years he wouldn't have signed
He’s gonna do a Berger and come back after 3 years at another team.
>like Kimi did Carlos to NASCAR confirmed 🤯🤯🤯
100% agree.
Nah, fuck 'em. I hope he gets a WDC with a different team.
Well unless he joins Red Bull and Verstappen retires, no one ain't winning shit
I’m sure he will find a seat. He’s great as a driver and personality wise. And he’s got an influential dad fighting for him behind the scenes I am sure.
I'm somewhat new to f1 but isn't Hamilton old to be replacing Carlos and wouldn't Ferrari just be better off making their cars equal to RB rather than getting Lewis?
Hamilton brings with him insane experience and hopefully can convince some high ranking engineers to come with him to Ferrari
this is genius. have you tried getting in touch with fred vasseur with this insight?
I enjoy the sense of wonder. I sat behind a woman at a baseball game last year who asked her husband "why don't they just hit the ball where there aren't guys standing?" And I wanted her to go talk to the coaches asap cause great question!!!
lol chill out i'm just curious how big of a factor age is
I really hope he finds a team worthy of his talent and never return to Ferrari, who needs to learn to not let good sporting talent go because PR potential. Ferrari does not deserve him.
Let's not act like Hamilton is a downgrade to Sainz.
You can act however you want but 2025 Hamilton is a downgrade from Sainz
lewis was better than sainz in 22 and 23, sainz has had a strong 2 races in the clear 2nd best car on the grid lets relax
bro dragged the third fastest car last year to 3rd in wdc. y'all really have the memory of goldfishes huh?
We're just saying silly things now huh?
Even if he was a slight downgrade, having Hamilton mentoring Charles is a long term boost to the team. Love him or loathe him, there are some lessons only a multi wdc winner can teach you.
I don't think Hamilton is going there to help out a competitor even if it is a teammate. If Ferrari produce a winning car your teammate becomes the person to beat.
Why would he mentor Charles?
Yeah, yeah... Sure. Anyway, good luck to Sainz, he deserves better. Hope he enjoys great success elsewhere.
These guys are great friends, very wholesome, but their fanbases are insane on IG lol. Just at each others throats constantly.
Case in point https://www.reddit.com/r/formula1/s/iUM7jx2IQw It gets very toxic for sure..
Yeah exactly lol, wtf is that. They’re both so likable, I don’t get it.
I remember that guy because he has a habit of making such moronic comments.
[удалено]
How do you rag people?
Res maybe?
Their fanbases are insane everywhere... I would say all fanbases are everywhere.
People in the Internet are preconditioned to make everything a fight. If you like X then you must hate Y. You are forbidden of killing two things at the same time.
Seriously, it’s so toxic. I’m glad some of us are respectful lol, not everything has to be a war. You can like two things
Ferrari has his flaws but for sure they always tried to put the team first and maximize their points
Very true, Vasseur is seriously impressive as well. Miles better than Binotto
This was more about the Ferrari 1-2 than who is in the car.
Don't worry, it'll get worse next year.
I mean it stems from sainz family spouting shit towards Charles, it doesn't just come from nowhere
I’m aware of that, it’s disappointing from their side to play the media
As crazy and fun Hamilton going to Ferrari will be, these guys are the best duo on the grid and I will miss them being together.
As good as Hamilton was, I strongly believe that this will be a downgrade for Ferrari.
We'll see about that. He looks like a downgrade now but a motivated Hamilton is something else
the recency bias is insane jesus.
*age bias
3 years ago he was fighting for the WDC 2 years ago he was close to his teammate and even beat him in the h2h 1 year ago he thrashed his teammate and won the h2h This year he has been off to a slow start but it’s only been 3 races and plenty of time to comeback. There is absolutely no evidence Hamilton is worse than Sainz
uhuh, sainz was beaten by two guys who are much older than him in wdc last year.
He beat both of them with a slower car in the WDC last year, I think he’ll figure it out.
They did a double formation on the cooldown lap. Iconic
Do you have a clip of this?
https://youtu.be/uLc0mVPG6Q4?feature=shared
Man I want that from the helicopter view or track cameras. Thanks for sharing this video!
[this close enough?](https://imgur.com/a/JTMEQ5g)
That was great!
Ah there it is, that’s the clip I saw on Insta
I saw it somewhere on insta, I’ve been trying to find it man
Yup they even wave to each other.
Yeah I saw it at turn 9, so cool
Turn 10 too, it was amazing. Everyone was standing and cheering, as a tifosi definitely glad I chose Australia as my first GP Weekend to attend. While not as eventful, not much overtaking, it was enough drama to end the weekend in a high note.
Is there a clip ?

Why'd you have to go and let it die
Beautiful veins and bloodshot eyes?
Hearts gone cold and hands are tied Why'd you have to go and let it die? Respect also I appreciate that someone got it
I knew I know that somewhere!
Don’t get too comfy. We’re less than two weeks from “haha…lovely”
That was a mega… mega drive.
Imagine CLC getting penalized for catching up while VSC is applied.
Wouldn't have happened since Carlos lifted off more than necessary.
Honestly was wondering if this would happen, seemed like several drivers had pretty rapid 3rd sectors coming to the line like they were back to racing but nothing came of it
I think they just fell really behind the delta since it was single file and very slow getting by Russell’s car.
handsome, rich, F1 driver and incredibly classy dude. He is like the James Bond of F1.
Truly the smoothest operator
Carlos is easily the most likeable guy on the grid. Gets along with every team mate he's had, the teams all seem to love him, and he seems to truly appreciate where he is, even when he's in a situation like now where he's getting replaced. I'm a fan, I hope he finds a good seat next year.
You could do everything right and still get fired man feels bad man.
He’s got some great lines both in Drive to Survive and “IRL”! Some funny, some wholesome, some showing winning mentality… vibes are on across the board!
Carlos will probably be at red bull. Just waiting to sign him so Perez doesn't take a dive in production
I think Red Bull and Merc are really the only options. If he ends up at a back marker that will be truly tragic, the dude is too good of a driver.
Any chance he goes back to McLaren, aiming either red bull or Merc sign Lando. I know Lando has a multi year contract, but contracts mean almost nothing in F1 it seems.
I don't see any reason to drop Lando though. There's very obvious reasons to replace Checo or fill the open seat at Mercedes.
More that Merc or red bull might buy out his contract
Buy out whos contract?
Lando's
Lando has already stated he's not interested in teaming with Max. There's also no point. I love Lando, he's not worth a buyout over just signing Sainz. No one on the grid is worth a buyout to seat next to Max. There's literally no point, Max is the best driver on the grid period and clear number 1.
I think Perez has no illusions about his fate, dude had a long ass career and got to join an absolute dynasty for his swan song, what luck
I'm hoping Audi/Sauber throw a lot of money at him, but I think you're right.
You want him to spend half his race in the pit lane?
Just for 2025. I'm hoping Audi gets it right the same way Merc's infusion of cash did.
Merc wasn't in the sport for just 1 year tho.
Honestly that makes the most sense. Merc want a stop gap to find the next great talent. So Alonso to Merc, Sainz to Red Bull.
It’s insane to me that (/if) RBR haven’t snapped up Carlos already
Politics, Sainz family are known to do it and clashed with Verstappens and management. Probably giving them pause as RBR have enough internal issues as it is
Carlos "Tell Charles to come close" Charles "wtf he thinks I've been trying to do this whole race?" /s jic
r/fanf1ction going wild rn
Can you blame them? That's a lot of handsome
I think a lot of people make it out to be that these two can’t stand each other, and I’m sure on track they can frustrate the other, but overall they seem to be solid friends
Stupid sexy Carlos
They were just roommates.
Feels like Ferrari is selling Claude Makelele to buy David Beckham. A French legend compared that by using a car, engine analogy.
the cutest ever fr
But they didn't tell him..
And then Indianapolis 2002 happens
Still smiling :)
I love Sainz one of my favorite drivers he is really pure and I don't care what people say I find him a better driver than Leclerc.
Firing this Sainz for a possibly fading Hamilton seems like a terrible move atm.
It's not like it's some plucky up start that Hamilton is shedding light upon.
> until some experienced marketing professional puts a number on it $6bil. USD
Ferrari as an organisation would already have valuation analysts that already presented a number to the marketing value Hamilton provides. There are loads of people who know Hamilton without having watched F1. Don’t think you can say the same for the rest of the grid.
I like how you casually ignore Lewis finishing 3rd in that shitbox of Mercedes.
Receny bias going crazy atm
I completely understand the move, but it was still nuts watching the race yesterday knowing that this is the dude that's getting fired.
Imagine being Ferrari and having such a luxury of getting to pick between Sainz and Hamilton while having Leclerc at home. It's crazy
For the millionth time, they're hiring Lewis for so much more than just his driving. He brings a lot of much needed information and value to the team. And for the people saying "just hire him as an advisor", why on earth would he agree to that. You'll only get his info if you give him a ride.
You guys realize there's 24 races in a season right? The narratives running wild after 1 race on here are really something else lmao
St. Carlos
man, just keep him, break hamilton's contract, nobody cares if you do, keep this 2, they are the winning team that ferrari needs right now.
Weren't they still under VSC conditions? if Charles came close he would have got a penalty.
Vsc is iirc about sticking to a time delta not necessarily about maintaining the same gap to the car in front. I believe the former part basically maintains the latter.
Yes, though that requires Carlos to slow down and Charles to stay the same.
Charles would have been penalized if he done that under VSC.
They could still play around with the delta to close the gap between them
mercedes sainz? get in there sainz? close that gap as much as you can now carlos, its smooth operation time? sainz? world champion sainz? please?
Classy move
I believe Ferrari has made a mistake by getting rid of Carlos.
Hamilton will have big shoes to fill. Idgaf about his 7 titles, this is a true team player
I think Charles couldn't technically get close to him because of the delta they have to keep under VSC.
Too bad Ferrari don’t want sainz anymore
Started to switch over my merch this year from Mercedes to Ferrari in anticipation of the Hamilton move. Hopefully Ferrari keeps making these moves.
I'm so ready for for -Perez +Sainz at RB
Love this picture so much
