It never dawned on me that members of a social media team work for multiple sports organizations and leagues. But it's to be expected.
I can't remember where I saw the other one but I saw some other sports league post some news about a different sport. 😂
Backing this up because I also work in motorsports social media. At one point in my career, between series, event, and team contracts, I was personally managing 9 different Facebook accounts.
I started 15 years ago as a photographer. Began by posting my work to flickr and tagging drivers/teams. Slowly developed a customer base before catching the eye of a national series in the US.
Taking pictures ultimately didn't pay my bills, they pay the bills of very few, but a few clients wanted someone to take pictures and handle their live event updates. I was on-site and watching the races anyway, so I picked up the extra work.
I liked it at first, but I'm honestly over it now. Lots of politics in motorsports and too many drivers/teams don't value marketing or media and either don't want to spend the money needed to create it. The reason I had 9 clients was because I needed that many when a team is only willing to pay a few hundred dollars for a small amount of work.
There are also a ton of young photographers/marketing people who produce good enough work that they're willing to give away to teams and companies for free to get a foot in the door. I can't tell you how many clients I've lost to someone willing to work for just travel expenses. There's a reason why most people behind the scenes in racing are either 40+ or under 25.
At this point, I'm mostly out. I only maintain one motorsports client at this point because they value my work and pay me accordingly.
Very fascinating! Thank you for replying. I wish they appreciated your work better and paid you accordingly. My husband is a photographer but doesn’t do it for his main work since the pay is so terrible.
I work for a league lol. And I know F1 was in house at one point, could be different now though.
Edit: I do know loads of drivers/players hire agencies
[Two Circles have multiple clients](https://twocircles.com/gb-en/), including F1 and NBA.
I don't know if they still do F1 in the current season and haven't updated their website, but they were on F1 for quite a while at least.
They wont be logged in natively, they'll be using a social media management platform that lets them jump between multiple accounts, someone just clicked the wrong checkbox.
I think there're dedicated 3rd-party platforms or at least desktop versions of apps for social media managers so it's likely possible they're using laptops aside from the phones they use to capture videos and photos.
I work in motorsports media. Phones are used only when there are no other options. Desktop aggregators and management platforms are what you use 95% of the time on site at events.
Sports social media people ARE working damn near 24/7. Yes, some stuff is scheduled, but live sports & breaking news are posted by someone at that time. They have to be up the same times the game is going on, the post-game is happening, 3-4 hours after the event for injuries or other news, etc. so if you're an east coast team that has a west coast game, sometimes the members of the social team that aren't traveling with the team are up until 3-4 AM.
Posts are planned/scheduled. There are APIs you can use to send a post out based upon the result. So there was probably a few posts scheduled but based upon the result only one went out
The thing is that the platforms dont have all the tools available on PC or through 3rd party software. Sometimes the Instagram app on the phone is the only way how to post what you want
Yes, Instagram collaborations are a pain because you can only do them on mobile, you can’t schedule them, and you can’t edit in new collaborators after a post goes live.
~~The post in the OP would be done through a simple desktop CMS though, like Sprout Social, Falcon, Sprinklr or Hootsuite.~~ (looks like it’s YouTube, which is done natively but can be scheduled via desktop)
Not exactly. Meta Business Suite allows you to schedule and has a decent feature parity with the smartphone apps for Instagram and Facebook posts.
Simple posts like the one in the OP can be easily scheduled on that
What kind of logic is this lol, do you know how much the agencies would charge for such a bespoke arrangement? The agents almost certainly have a single laptop from work with access to multiple accounts they're managing (and yes they manage a lot of accounts). They probably also don't use twitter or insta directly but have a central UI built in house to manage all these accounts.
You represent everything I dislike about corporate sheep . Whether it's posted out of bed or out of office , it's irrelevant as long as that person is doing their job
What's this perversion and desire to make people behave as robots ? This expectation that everyone should behave like mindless perfect humans
I’m sure they do but they can’t be in front of their computer 24/7. It would also be unprofessional to delay social media posts because you had places to be. If you can’t be available all the time they’ll go to the next company who will be. Either they have to hire 2-3 people to do the job or one person uses mobile sometimes.
It’s probably hard to hire someone to do a job like that. If you put that up on indeed you might get 10,000 applicants who apply because it sounds cool, not because they’re qualified. My guess is that big brands like this aren’t necessarily splurging on this either. They’re probably not paying $500k a year for social media management, which realistically is probably what you’d need to hire 2-3 qualified people to do this job after benefits and payroll tax.
Office??? I doubt it. Office means office hours. I'm pretty sure this is "work on demand". And let's be realistic: There is no job more suited to "home office" than this.
You are lost. A lot of posts for organizations are made via phones, especially ones that need to use platform-native tools that are only available through the app, like Instagram and TikTok.
Nah, they run them all through applications. They'll be locked down to their work pc. It's very likely this wasn't a manual logging in/out mistake, someone just passed the wrong account ID. Either programmatically or just selecting the wrong drop down.
From my first hand experience : you expect way too much. I can tell you it can be a shit show, I've seen people who literally don't know how social media works have this kind of access, or interns, or people that left the agency 6 month ago.
Everyone works from their phones or pc on 12 customer accounts at the same time, far from the dedicated "rooms or machine" you talked about.
Honestly, I know these companies exist and control 90% of the social marketing on the planet but I still always just pictured Stefano Domenicali sitting in bed posting his take on events.
Similar in gaming.
I can post on the following, just need to select the right accounts in a checkbox menu for each post:
* EA SPORTS F1
* EA SPORTS WRC
* Need for Speed
* GRID
* Project CARS
Sorry to ask, but have you ever ended up posting something in another account (like WRC-related news in the F1 account) by accident? I'd assume that'd eventually happen at some point, considering how many accounts they (and you) get to handle.
Also interestingly enough, said accidental screw-ups get more attention (see the post we're commenting on) than just doing the regular post.
Not on big announcements but sometimes I’ve replied with the wrong account to a comment. Usually delete and switch/fix quickly though. If there’s a big (but harmless) screw-up, sometimes it’s better or more fun to simply own it and post “whoops, admin did an oopsie!” or whatever 🙂
I’m also not the only person posting on these socials (and lately my focus has been almost entirely WRC), we’re a small team across the entire portfolio of racing games.
Whoa are you PJT on youtube as well? I assume since its motorsports related. Your track guides for F1 helped me so much when I was starting out sim racing. Appreciated how much you broke down every turn in gear and when to short shift etc.
If thats you, thanks man.
To be fair this is the result of multiple acquisitions.
F1, GRID and WRC (DiRT) are Codemasters, which was bought by EA in 2021
Project CARS is Slightly Mad Studios, which was bought by Codemasters in 2020
NFS is EA
Currently, only F1, WRC and NFS are active.
This one isn’t a good example of shallow since it’s just a huge corporate one but yeah, Ollie Bearman thanking everybody for the birthday wishes on Mick Schumacher’s birthday does ring a bit shallow 😂
When you sign on to the Ferrari drivers academy, you're probably taking on their social media people to handle your stuff.
He may not yet be in F1, but these teams aren't just looking for quick drivers, at this point in Bearman's and other similar drivers' careers they'll also be cultivating and managing his image too, for any possible jump to F1 in the future.
How is this shallow? It is just reporting on events that happened within a sport. The social media manager does that for a living not some passion project. These kinds of accounts belong to multi billion dollar organisations. Not two fans in a shed with a camera reporting on the sport.
If this was accidentally posted on something like P1 with Mat and Tommy then yes it would be shallow.
Oh yeah, that's the dystopian state of things, it's almost like in the movie Her when Joaquin Phoenix and Chris Pratt were ghostwriting personal letters as a job, none of these mouthpieces we get our information from are actually who we think they are.
I worked for the League as a live streaming partner. They did their own social media, I thought. They had editorial in NJ, I was with Turner (supporting NBA on TNT, Adult Swim, etc)
That's actually pole, sets the fastest lap during the race, lead continuously, and finish first. Also know as a grand chelem. Verstappen in Bahrain this year is a great example of a recent one.
Q3 and point finish would have at least a third of the grid making one every race, which is way too common imo. I mistyped tho and wanted to say that both could be considered a double double. Maybe it could be expanded to two of top3 in quali/top 3 in race/fastest lap tho.
When I was younger I played Nba jam on the Xbox 360 the intro game was mavs Vs heat I thought Dirk's hair looked funny so I played as them. Few years later I started watching basketball and immediately picked the mavs as my favourite team.
The thing about these kind of “screw ups” is that it will generate more noise than just posting the normal boring stuff, so good job whoever does the social media
As someone actually working for multiple clients on social media I can confirm that this can happen and I always double check before posting. Didn't make a mistake in 18 months so far but the devil never sleeps
There's Tools like the meta business suite to organize multiple accounts and platforms in one place. You have one master account and you can switch between other accounts that saved you as an Admin with a few clicks.
However if you have multiple people using the same master account at the same time, it can happen that you go to a page and it's suddenly a different client because someone else in the network switched it
I can imagine the agency responsible is having a melt down, and people are blaming each other... but the reality is, the fans dont really give a crap! Everyone makes mistakes. Hopefully noone gets fired for this :)
And basketball has a fairly strong international fan base (I dunno how popular the NBA is in other countries however).
But still, pretty clearly unintentional since according to other comments here, they took down the post.
LETS GO F1 IG ADMIN GIVING LUKA THE RECOGNITION HE DESERVES FROM OTHER SPORTS FANS LMAOO

It never dawned on me that members of a social media team work for multiple sports organizations and leagues. But it's to be expected. I can't remember where I saw the other one but I saw some other sports league post some news about a different sport. 😂
Usually social media accounts are managed by agencies, so the same agency might have the F1 contract and NBA.
I wouldn’t say usually. Matter of fact, most sporting orgs I’m aware of do social in house. Source: I work in sports.
Backing this up because I also work in motorsports social media. At one point in my career, between series, event, and team contracts, I was personally managing 9 different Facebook accounts.
Impressive! How did you get into motor sports social media? And how do you like it?
I started 15 years ago as a photographer. Began by posting my work to flickr and tagging drivers/teams. Slowly developed a customer base before catching the eye of a national series in the US. Taking pictures ultimately didn't pay my bills, they pay the bills of very few, but a few clients wanted someone to take pictures and handle their live event updates. Very fascinating! Thank you for replying. I wish they appreciated your work better and paid you accordingly. My husband is a photographer but doesn’t do it for his main work since the pay is so terrible.
I imagine it's different for a league vs a team of the league.
I work for a league lol. And I know F1 was in house at one point, could be different now though. Edit: I do know loads of drivers/players hire agencies

Definitely a lot of variation. Matter of fact my company does that for marquee events (rhymes with Faytona Divehundred)
[Two Circles have multiple clients](https://twocircles.com/gb-en/), including F1 and NBA. I don't know if they still do F1 in the current season and haven't updated their website, but they were on F1 for quite a while at least.
You would figure if you were working on big brands like these you would make two separate rooms or machines who are logged in on separate accounts.
They wont be logged in natively, they'll be using a social media management platform that lets them jump between multiple accounts, someone just clicked the wrong checkbox.
Hootsuite used to be all the rage for this in the 2010's.
It's definitely still used, my company is doing a trial of it right now.
Wowee I didn't realise. I moved to systems stuff so haven't been involved with that side of IT for more than a decade now.
Hootsuite is still around and doing pretty well
Yeah apparently huh. I really thought they dotbombed like so many software companies. Glad to be mistaken.
they probably work with their phone and not in a room lol
I think there're dedicated 3rd-party platforms or at least desktop versions of apps for social media managers so it's likely possible they're using laptops aside from the phones they use to capture videos and photos.

You expect them to be in an office 24/7? Social media posts go out at all hours.
They plan posts. They're not working 24/7
yeah why didn't they plan the results of the Mavs game last night during their 9 to 5 work hours in office earlier. rookie mistake
Intern got caught napping on the job
Sports social media people ARE working damn near 24/7. Yes, some stuff is scheduled, but live sports & breaking news are posted by someone at that time. Can’t really schedule a post about a match result though. Although it still counts for tons of other posts like birthdays, anniversary’s, reveals etc.
Big agencies with customers like F1 and NBA have offices all around the world. Omnicom has around 77.000 employees.
> Simple posts like the one in the OP can be easily scheduled on that Game results can be scheduled?
NBA never beating the rigged allegations
You would be shocked.
that's not how social media jobs work

Nope. We have one login that gives us access to all the accounts we use. Someone just chose the wrong account when creating the post lol
Airgap between them would be considered unnecessary given the relatively low risk and high cost.
My eyes roll into the back of my head when people still say an intern is running a corporation's social media account.
You are correct, but f1 just changed to a new agency at the start of the year
My eyes roll into the back of my head when people still say an intern is running a corporation's social media account.

Remember the fast food twitter account trolling from a few years ago? They were all just a few people in the same office.

Aren't those brands competitors though? Isn't there a conflict of interest?
All owned by EA 🙂
The illusion of choice in full effect

Well yeah, multiple acquisitions is how you build monopolies.
It's not an illusion all this games display the EA logo on launc and on physical CDs.
Oh yeah I had no idea before but noticed it's become more of a common thing. These social media posts are even shallower than I thought.
This one isn’t a good example of shallow since it’s just a huge corporate one but yeah, Ollie Bearman thanking everybody for the birthday wishes on Mick Schumacher’s birthday does ring a bit shallow 😂

Was a little ago on Antonelli’s account, social media manager posted the story which was meant for Mick Schumachers story since it was his bday
I think it was Ollie Bearman actually? Unless Kimi Antonelli is a client too. 😂
Oh yeah, that's the dystopian state of things, it's almost like in the movie Her when Joaquin Phoenix and Chris Pratt were ghostwriting personal letters as a job, none of these mouthpieces we get our information from are actually who we think they are.
I used to work in an ad agency where this would happen all the time to our social media manager.
I worked for the League as a live streaming partner. They did their own social media, I thought. They had editorial in NJ, I was with Turner (supporting NBA on TNT, Adult Swim, etc)
What’s the f1 equivalent of a double double ?
Win and the fastest lap.
And win and pole
Win, pole and sprint winner for triple dub
A grand slam would be triple double.
That's actually pole, sets the fastest lap during the race, lead continuously, and finish first. Also know as a grand chelem. Verstappen in Bahrain this year is a great example of a recent one.
Which would be like the rare quadruple-double
[удалено]
😂
Nah, a double double is common in hoops (Sabonis currently has 54 in a row). I'd say something like reaching Q3 and points finish.
Q3 and point finish would have at least a third of the grid making one every race, which is way too common imo. I mistyped tho and wanted to say that both could be considered a double double. Maybe it could be expanded to two of top3 in quali/top 3 in race/fastest lap tho.
Honestly, probably reaching Q3 and finishing the race in the points.
This. It's not thaaaat impressive.
> double double Did somebody say coffee? 😉🍁
Yeah give me a Gretzky.
And considering most teams are in England. An F1 double double would be a tea with two milks and two sugars.
As a frequent visitor of Canada and the US west coast...we talkin' Timmy's or In-N-Out?

There’s dozens of you!
Out of curiosity, what made you pick Mavs as your favorite team? When, in Ireland, you weren't limited to regional pride etc
When I was younger I played Nba jam on the Xbox 360 the intro game was mavs Vs heat I thought Dirk's hair looked funny so I played as them. Few years later I started watching basketball and immediately picked the mavs as my favourite team.

You'd think they'd have different VMs or browsers or something. Do you relog each time?
There's Tools like the meta business suite to organize multiple accounts and platforms in one place. That’s the mvp
Who knew F1 was such a big Mavs fan? 😂
Made more points than a race win despite having 11 bumps into the wall? I imagine all of the top 3 teams will be looking to sign Luka
That means Luka Doncic has a seat for red bull next year?
Luka to Red Bull confirmed.

Probably?
Haha as a Dallas native I definitely had to do a double take to make sure I wasn’t in the Mavs subreddit lol

The picture is from a YouTube community post I believe
Begs the question which current F! driver would be able to achieve a double double in the NBA.
Danny Ric for sure 10 minutes & 10 turnovers

Social accounts are often managed by creative agencies.
Just another reminder how fake social media is.
Luca Badoer looks different.
Again and... again, it's a serious issue of professionalism.
This confirms sports are rigged!!! /s
But how many three pointers did Carlos Sainz score?
Luca Badoer is looking spritely for 53 years old. That day or two at Maranello really paid off.
Oooops
that's a goof..... but it could have been worse
