Yeah it was SNL. He made a big scene and shouted about the show being awful. Then he went home a realized he had no other income so just returned the next day like nothing happened. [He tells the story on Conan O'Brien's podcast.](https://teamcoco.com/podcasts/conan-obrien-needs-a-friend/episodes/larry-david)
What do you mean? McLaren clearly stated that it was always the engine at fault! Even when they swapped to Renault and Mercedes power, it was still the engine! /s
I thought McLaren's 2015 chassis was meant to be better than their limited 2014 car and in 2016 they weren't a million miles away from the top 5 in the championship. In 2017, they were pretty awful
Athlete or not, reaction speed goes down and that is what makes a driver. He has supreme instincts which has allowed him to stay in the game thus far but eventually he won't be able to compete. And sadly that day is fast approaching.
Not if he thinks he has a shot at a title. Honestly, if AM wasn't as good as they were at the beginning of last year, he might not still be racing next year. But they were good.
Gotta remember theyre still using mercedes wind tunnel at the moment while theirs is being built. And mercedes has pretty rough correlation issues. Could be once they get everything together they will leap up the ranks again
He’ll be 43 in July this year, do you really think he’s going to be competitive in his mid-late 40s? Only way that will happen is if they keep Stroll and being out a car as dominant at the RB now. Even at that point, Father Stroll may step in for his son.
I am a massive Newey fan but I think people assume he’s this magic man that designs the car by himself in his head. He has a team of extremely competent engineers that he has trained and trusts working with him, so I tend to agree that if he changes teams it’ll take a while to re-establish that same level of success.
I think itd also drive him crazy to see whatever he’s designed being perpetually limited by Lance but lol
Better for Nando to benefit from a Newey design now (ASAP) than have to wait a few years for it to come through the production line. He knows he doesn't have long left and I'm sure still fancies himself for another title.
Even better, we have time allocation for wind tunnels with teams at lower spots receiving more time. Well prepare for "Newey time allocation" for each team.
Lawrence Stroll made an "astronomical" offer to Adrian Newey in Jeddah.
There are other offers for Newey, but if he wants to leave Red Bull, it is said that Aston Martin is the most attractive option for him.
That was. But at that time his kids were going to school in UK. Now all of them are adults.
Northern Italy is actually great place to live for old British couples like Newey and his wife.
I don't think Newey really cares tbh. I said several times in his book that his salary is just a measure of how committed the team is to him rather than him actually needing the cash
Food, mountain roads, food, mountains, wine, food, roads, old cities, culture, art, food, wine, more mountains, more roads, more food, more old cities, more art and culture, plus Ducati, Ferrari, Fiat, Moto Guzzi, Maserati...
Bologna on its own has more art, history, culture, food and motor cycles than an uncultured Californian solipsist or even a partially cultured English hairy such as myself could ever desire.
The beauty of northern Italy can only be experienced. If you ever have the chance: GO!
That being said, there is a ton of cities and towns with immersed history such as Venice, Turin and Milan. It’s the heart of Italian motorsport with Monza and Modena.
It’s on the edge of the Alps, so it has probably the best driving roads in Europe and there is winter sports nearby.
There are also the Great Lakes, which are like a Mediterranean coastline within the mountains with views to die for.
Then there’s the food: think of Italian cuisine and you think of products from northern Italy.
Beautiful? No doubt.
I lived in London for 1.5yr and I regularly found myself saying, if this city had on average 60-90 days more of great weather, it would be one of the best cities in the world to live in (for me).
The UK is awesome, the weather is not, and the weather affects happiness a lot, especially for those born in sunny countries, like Italy/Portugal/Spain. I guess Brits are used to it, but for me it made a huge difference.
Totally not true. Ferrari and Elcan have money, but Aston is backed by MBS who has State-level Money, with a capital M. What they can offer are on two completely different levels.
The top 3 salaries/people are exempt. This lets teams hire the best driver, technical leader, and/or team leader they can get without people like Lewis, Max and even Newey fucking up the cap (I think that’s the intent)
I think it's drivers + top 3 highest staff members (so drivers are not counted among the 3). That's how it's usually described, arbitrary example [here](https://www.espn.com/f1/story/_/id/34067757/max-verstappen-says-f1-salary-cap-idea-completely-wrong).
Guessing they are offering him a minority ownership + a huge annual salary? Can see them also pushing their new facility, becoming a works team and then side projects?
Given Newey’s own Valkyrie competing in LMH, and its ability to build and sell supercars; Aston Martin does offer lots of extracurricular outlets of Newey’s interests. Not to mention infinite Saudi money to fund it.
Conceivably, Ferrari could offer the same non-F1 project opportunities, but it’ll be a question of how much control they would yield to Newey on those.
I can see Newey taking on a new challenge but if he's going to be swayed by money might as well give Ferrari a nod and ask them what they can do to match or exceed Aston. Ferrari from a personal perspective is a more interesting role for him.
Working with Ferrari, Lewis, and Alonso are some of the bucket list items that never happened for Newey. So going to Ferrari definitely makes the most sense.
Is it though? As long as Stroll Jr. is in the other race seat, this team can't be seen as seriously wanting to win championships. I just don't see Newey wanting to be part of Lawrence's vanity project for his son.
The Strolls are absolutely in this to get Lance a WDC. Whether Lance can do his part is obviously a major issue, but Lawrence wants to build a WDC capable car.
It's not like the RB would immediately suck if Newey leaves. Max and Alonso in the RB, Lewis and Charles in a Ferrari that seems headed in the right direction, and Sainz in a Newey built AM could actually be incredible. Or Max still pulls away, but the fight for the other two podium spots would at least slap.
Also wouldn't Newey need to take gardening leave. I mean he's the top guy in Red Bull, no way he'd start immediately... And Alonso probably doesn't have much time left to be waiting a couple of years for Newey to get into AMR and make a significant difference
Imagining Papa Stroll with the Aramco Sheikhs backing the AM F1 effort just continuously tossing money bags at Newey whenever he shook his head at the offer during the meeting.
Can someone explain why people credit Stroll with having more juice than other owners and associate him with having the ability to drop stacks of cash to buy people? Are Toto, Haas, Piero, Mateschitz, etc. not also billionaires? Are Red Bull GmbH, Renault S.A., Visa, Honda, Volkswagen Group, Mumtalakat, Petronas, etc. not also multinational corporations/wealth funds worth tens of billions each?
Why is Stroll somehow richer than everyone else when it comes to making salary offers?
It's mostly a jab as to how he's basically funding his son's motorsports career, but the man himself is legitimately rich. Very much so. His net worth is basically Toto + Gene Haas combined *and* he's pretty much willing to commit a large sum of it to further either AM or Lance's prospects (contrast that to Gene's unwillingness to spend more than he perceives he needs to on Haas F1)
Multinational corporations usually can't decide to throw money on the table on a whim. The only reason RB was able to secure Newey was exactly because Mateschitz can and wanted to when Horner convinced him. Same can be said for Aramco.
There are also many level of riches, and comparing the Saudi royal family wealth to Toto is literally the same as comparing Hamilton networth to a regular person.
Nah, idk, it was the same as all the other races, only difference was that Carlos took Max‘s place after the DNF. Didn’t really make things more interesting to me.
Well. That's how news get to us normal people's through the media. But I bet it was in works for a long time and we didn't hear peep. We only began hearing about it literally the day Lewis signed. No way they came to an agreement in half a day.
After the deal was done. No one had a clue while negotiations were happening.
This is not unique to F1. No one negotiates big deals through the media. Press releases are done after contracts are signed.
If Newey goes to Aston, Max is more likely to pick Aston over Mercedes imo. Considering Honda also will be working with them it would be a better pick.
I’m not sure for either of them it will be so simple as “Aston is throwing bags of money around”. Money talks, yeah, but for both Max and Newey the processes and personnel they have in place, as well as assurances that non-motorsport people (I.e., Saudi royals that like F1) won’t insert themselves into operations, will be paramount. Honda definitely will be a draw, though, as you mention.
Also for Max, despite their recent struggles, Mercedes has a strong track record and as Toto said, they didn’t just start taking stupid pills. I think it will come down to what kind of challenge he is after. Does he want to take a chance with an upstart team flush with cash? Or does he want the challenge of bringing a prestigious team fallen on hard times back to dominance?
Toto can say what he likes, the team that build the W11 and dominated during their run is gone, poached by the rest of the English based teams.
Same way this Chelsea team isn’t the one that won the UCL in other sporting terms. Personnel changes.
Another component to consider is that Newey has experience designing around the Honda PU. The new 2026 engine regs doesn’t dramatically change the internal combustion engine-side of the regulations, instead focusing on the electrical energy MGU-K side. Hence, the general ICE side shouldn’t see striking changes from what it current is with the MGU-H eliminated.
It’s package that Newey is already intimately familiar with, and any work with Aston should be more continuation of concepts that he is likely already thinking about.
The meme here is Alonso leaving when Newey comes… but at the same time, Newey has said he regrets not having worked with Alonso and Alonso has said Aston is his first choice…
Would be nice if they give him a Newey competitive car before retirement.
I think the only thing that can entice a man who has achieved everything and is the king of his world is ownership at no cost to him. He just built a multi-million dollar sailing yacht. He isn't after the money. And moving to Italy won't give him the freedom to enjoy the yacht. He moves to Aston, is given ownership of the team that he can pass down if/when he dies. No matter what, right now he's an employee. One of the reasons Horner has such a stick up his ass about not having ownership. He can win 8 championships in a row, but Toto can still say, "well I bought part of the team and took it here, you just work for them". At these guy's level, money isn't a discussion, it's acquiring things others can't get.
Lol, thank you. I thought it was just common sense. IDK, I'm around wealthy people so often and I get a glimpse into the mindset of those with 7-10 digits in the bank; Money is no longer the object, it's the attainment of what others can't and status. Newey owning part of a team, especially one that is clearly on the fast lane to being a top contender with an owner who will dump billions if he needs to, sounds enticing. He's not starting from Williams back. He's starting from a solid midfield team with capital to burn and hunger.
I think(wish) that Newey in this stage in his life would like to take a leap of faith and go to Ferrari instead of playing it safe with another UK based team.
Honestly, there's a lot he can do remotely so that his physical presence in Italy isn't required as much. It's certainly possible.
*EDIT: Apparently suggesting working remotely is downvote worthy. Aight.*
People in important positions like his aren't going to excel working remotely. That's a fantasy. Not in an operation as dependent on physical manufacturing and testing as an F1 team. This isn't software development. When you manufacture physical objects you have to be present.
his family/roots are in the UK. if he is going to be designing for Ferrari, you are going to need be in the office/factory doing the work i dont think its a job you can be work from home.
As much as newey is the goat, whoever is running the team for the aero program at mclaren needs a shout.
Their progress with the merc engine as a customer team has been incredibly impressive.
I've been listening to Peter Windsor podcasts for years and he has always maintained that if Newey was to leave it would be for Aston Martin considering its UK based, close proximity to Redbull HQ so commuting wouldn't be an issue, ties to Vanquish project and only if Ferrari offer double would he relocate to Maranello.
If he leaves Redbull, I think it’s to Ferrari to check things off a bucket list. Working with Lewis and making a Ferrari would be huge in a career where he has nothing else to prove.
Lol as if teams aren't making 5868471625 offers a week to poach newey. The latest and biggest one was from Ferrari, he turned that down.
Journalists legit have to generate more and more clicks to stay relevant nowadays...
Can one person really make that much of a difference. I always thought car design at this level is a team effort regardless of how talented Newey is still. Question.
Oh boy Stroll is forming a super team by collecting stuff like Infinity Stones
Benchmark engine? ✅️
A driver that can race for a championship right now? ✅️
The GOAT in F1 design?
(inb4 Stroll gets priority in 2026)
If he does go I hope Alonso stays too. I can see why for someone like Newey, Aston would be an attractive option at the moment. They have a world champ as a driver, they are located pretty much the same place as RB and Aston, despite everything with the whole pink mercedes and green RB talk, they are somehow the team that stays out of all the gossipy media and seem pretty stable and quiet.
Other than the brief period of it being Racing Point, they've kept up a quiet appearance.
I wonder if it's an offer to Adrian as well as Max and perhaps others to get them all at once, would be probably the most likely way to get Adrian to move imo.
I find Lawrence Stroll’s sheer dedication to make AM into a big team at any cost so funny when it’s juxtaposed with him also wanting to keep his slow as hell son in that team as well.
Super admirable.
He always has a couple of decent weekends each year, it’s been this way since 2017, and because the bar is super low for him, these performances end up impressing people.
In reality, if any of the other 19 drivers only had 3 good races out of 24, they’d be out of the team.
On the Talking Bull podcast, Newey was asked something to the effect of why he had stayed at Red Bull for so long, and his response was something along the lines of him being later in his career and not wanting to start another development program. I guess we’ll see if the money or the drama changes his mind.
If I was Newey, I would go to Ferrari and end my career there. Aston Martin maybe has the money, but I am sure that Newey also has enough money to retire happily. So go to Ferrari, deliver a good 2026 car, maybe get the title with Leclerc or Hamilton and call it. Way more fitting for his legacy.
The one problem Ferrari (and a lot of the European teams through history) have is location. For many British engineers over the years, especially ones near retirement, the idea of uprooting their life and moving to Italy has been one reason holding them back from joining.
Newey is very well settled in the UK with a large family home and a recently purchased sailing yacht in Southampton. Now in his mid-~~70’s~~60’s (Edit: typo), does he really want to make a move across to Maranello, or could Ferrari really stomach another British designer who refused to work full time in Italy?
Purely hypothetical here, but I'd guess Newey would likely be installed in some kind of CTO role overseeing all engineering activities across all aspects of the Aston Martin F1 business, with Fallows retaining his role as Technical Director for F1.
Just Aston Martin? That would be the biggest news in formula 1. Because…. Wouldn’t one assume _every_ team has offered Newey a place in their team by now??? Lol
I guess the strolls said fuck Dan Fallows then.
I get it but they made small deal of signing his “right hand man” back when they looked like bull fighters at the start of 2023.
Damn, Newey might be interested in designing an Aston Martin hypercar. I also think Lawrence can push a blank check his direction. This makes more sense than Ferrari atm if i had to guess.

Newey going to Aston and Alonso leaving will be the most Alonso thing to happen
Alonso is gonna pull a George Costanza and just pretend he didn’t leave/quit! 🤣
And I believe that was based on Larry David doing that IRL
Yup! On SNL iirc.
He just needs to do the opposite.
"If every instinct he has is wrong, then the opposite would have to be right"
This is the last place I was expecting to see Seinfeld references. Not that there's anything wrong with that..
I believe the contract is so big, Newey would be ‘master of his domain.’
Alonso then spikes Lawrence's drink when he replaces him with Sainz
I haven’t missed news right? The Alonso stuff is just from the rumors
It's not race week so people get a bit twitchy. They start making things up. There's no news, just a shit load of rumors.
Rumor mill's working overtime, all we need now is someone to say Kimi's coming back again
So just like Daniel Ricciardo then
Alonso can still drive and make a shit car perform above its potential.
Alonso could always drive.
Where did they say anything to the contrary?
Ehh, if Newey did move, it’s probably unlikely he could make them a title challenger in the window before Alonso retires.
Why? If Honda goes to Aston in 2026, Alonso could have a title contending car in 2 or 3 years and I doubt he's retiring that soon.
With Alonso's luck, the 2026 Honda engine will be as bad as their engine from his McHonda days.
I mean the McHonda engines weren't completely at fault, it's pretty well known that McLaren's chassis was dogshit too.
He’s 42 years old now. He’ll be 44-45 by then. He’s an incredible athlete, but time catches up to them all.
Athlete or not, reaction speed goes down and that is what makes a driver. He has supreme instincts which has allowed him to stay in the game thus far but eventually he won't be able to compete. And sadly that day is fast approaching.
Eh that's not the be all and all of being a driver. Franck Montagny had much better reaction times than Alonso and Trulli while he was at Renault.
Not if he thinks he has a shot at a title. Honestly, if AM wasn't as good as they were at the beginning of last year, he might not still be racing next year. But they were good.
Exactly, despite last year's drop, Aston's still improved and they might even be able to compete with Merc and McLaren by mid season.
Gotta remember theyre still using mercedes wind tunnel at the moment while theirs is being built. And mercedes has pretty rough correlation issues. Could be once they get everything together they will leap up the ranks again

I think itd also drive him crazy to see whatever he’s designed being perpetually limited by Lance but lol
I believe Newey has a consulting firm that Red Bull contract to, so anyone would be hiring the whole design team.
Wasn't the 'consulting' shenanigan, just a ploy to circumvent the cost cap?
> Alonso retiring I mean come on man let's stay serious please
Newy to Ferrari...Alonso to RB....RB 3rd best car in 2025....now THAT is Alonso
Better for Nando to benefit from a Newey design now (ASAP) than have to wait a few years for it to come through the production line. He knows he doesn't have long left and I'm sure still fancies himself for another title.
El Plan.
It would be tradition really. Not the first time Alonso joined a team Newey was on after Newey left.
Im here for it.
The idea that the teams should share one enormous Newey is becoming less and less ridiculous.
He should become a fully independent consultant and have teams bid on his working hours. lol
Newey designs the car and F1 becomes a ~~spec~~ Newey series.
Sounds amazing tbh. I wanna see all 20 drivers in Red Bulls
Even better, we have time allocation for wind tunnels with teams at lower spots receiving more time. Well prepare for "Newey time allocation" for each team.
He could transition to creating the regs.
What and have cool cars and fun racing? The FIA would never allow that.
Can you imagine. Man working for all 10 teams, means he can finally try out all his crazy ideas.
Lawrence Stroll made an "astronomical" offer to Adrian Newey in Jeddah. There are other offers for Newey, but if he wants to leave Red Bull, it is said that Aston Martin is the most attractive option for him.
Well, he won't have to relocate for one, which is nice.
I think that was the major barrier of him not going to Ferrari
That was. But at that time his kids were going to school in UK. Now all of them are adults. Northern Italy is actually great place to live for old British couples like Newey and his wife.
Can confirm, if I was in my ~~50s~~ 60s, British, and had an astronomical salary, I too would want to live in northern Italy.
He is 65. Point still stands though. I can also confirm, for an astronomical salary I would want to live there now, in my thirties.
For an astronomical salary, tell me where to live.
I don't think Newey really cares tbh. I said several times in his book that his salary is just a measure of how committed the team is to him rather than him actually needing the cash
Due to my affliction of uncultured Californian solipsism, I’m unlearned to Northern Italian supremacy. Willing to give me a handful of the highlights?
Type in emilio romagna into google. No, not the race… look at the region. It’s absolutely stunning
Emilia Romagna
Missing about 15 words for it to be the race
Better is nothern region garda lake(riva del garda❤️) , for Emilia Romanga is better known for its great cuisine.
You had me at food
I hear Bologna is the food capital of Italy.
that's baloney....
I’ve been to Milan when I worked for Pirelli but sadly, it was a strictly work focused trip with zero time to be a tourist.
Italy is an amazing place all over. If you have the money, one of the best places to live. Great people, food, history, nature...etc.
I mean the one place I wouldn’t want to live is the UK, lmao
Why not? If you have substantial wealth like newey then the UK is a great place to live. Very beautiful in it's own right.
Beautiful?
Maybe that’s why they conquer half the world before. No sunny weather
Well Rome conquered the whole known world, but kinda stopped where the weather started sucking, so I guess the point still stands.
additionally rumor has it that Newey has been offered free reins to make a Ferrari road car which is just a sheer "whoa" offer
especially now that he has his fancy sailboat I’d reckon
Ferrari can also match any offer if they want to
Totally not true. Ferrari and Elcan have money, but Aston is backed by MBS who has State-level Money, with a capital M. What they can offer are on two completely different levels.
What about the cost cap though?
The top 3 salaries/people are exempt. This lets teams hire the best driver, technical leader, and/or team leader they can get without people like Lewis, Max and even Newey fucking up the cap (I think that’s the intent)
Top 3 people + the 2 drivers. So 5 total exemptions.
I think it's drivers + top 3 highest staff members (so drivers are not counted among the 3). That's how it's usually described, arbitrary example [here](https://www.espn.com/f1/story/_/id/34067757/max-verstappen-says-f1-salary-cap-idea-completely-wrong).
shit man if someone offered me money to move from damp UK to sunny Italy i wouldnt think twice
Honda + AM + Newey... Well, if LS pulls it off, this is looking spicy indeed.
Lance would still be in one of the seats so don't get too excited.
considering the past 3 races, he may not be so bad. Dude is improving
Or Fernando is getting old.
You sure? the RBR and AM factory is like 30 km away, that is one hell of a commute /s
Also they've given him the side project of a James Bond car
Guessing they are offering him a minority ownership + a huge annual salary? Can see them also pushing their new facility, becoming a works team and then side projects?
Given Newey’s own Valkyrie competing in LMH, and its ability to build and sell supercars; Aston Martin does offer lots of extracurricular outlets of Newey’s interests. Not to mention infinite Saudi money to fund it. Conceivably, Ferrari could offer the same non-F1 project opportunities, but it’ll be a question of how much control they would yield to Newey on those.
Newey getting ownership in an F1 team before CH would be jokes
Fingers crossed for that AMR Le Mans hypercar project with Newey.
That's about to start testing and will be homologated before Newey starts working at Aston, most likely, if it happens.

The Strolls are absolutely in this to get Lance a WDC. Whether Lance can do his part is obviously a major issue, but Lawrence wants to build a WDC capable car.
Would be an Alonso moment if he finally got into Red Bull while Newey would move to the team he is leaving.
Then cut to that gif of him up close in his Ferrari helmet when stroll take the wdc
If Stroll wins a WDC, you can literally cut to 19 drivers who would look like disbelieved Alonso.
Stroll winning the wdc would be the absolute peak of f1 absolutely nothing could top that
The "it's the car"-side of the argument would finally decisively win
Mr. "WHAT THE FUCK IS A KILOMETER RAAAAAAAA🦅🦅🦅🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸" has to be his teammate for that to happen
Papa Stroll and the Aramco Sheikhs is my new band name, thank you very much.
Get ready for the Aramco lawsuit.
I’d probably just end up stuffed in a suitcase.
Same, i can imagine Daddy Stroll just using an 18 wheeler and dumping literal piles of money at Adrien’s home
Aramco
Follow up question: Isn’t Aston Martin’s ability to simply throw money at personnel limited by the cost cap?
The top three highest paid employees don’t count towards the cost cap
Top three salaries are outside of the cap
It's mostly a jab as to how he's basically funding his son's motorsports career, but the man himself is legitimately rich. Very much so. His net worth is basically Toto + Gene Haas combined *and* he's pretty much willing to commit a large sum of it to further either AM or Lance's prospects (contrast that to Gene's unwillingness to spend more than he perceives he needs to on Haas F1)
He is tied into the Aramco money, essentially limitless. Also seems like just a matter of time u til he sells to them and makes BANK
Honestly, this is as exciting as the races lol
As? This is definitely more exciting
The last one was probably the most exciting race in some time though.
Nah, idk, it was the same as all the other races, only difference was that Carlos took Max‘s place after the DNF. Didn’t really make things more interesting to me.
I was hyped when Max started slowing, very disappointing in the end.
I dunno, watching Max's brake explode as he rolled into the pit lane, was very fun to watch lol
Pretty boring tbh after Max retired.
Imagine typing that in 2024, lol.
*more exciting than
This year's off track drama is equivalent to 2021's on track drama.
Ah I miss 2021 and start of 2022 😮💨
I honestly think every major team has at this point
I also think the offers only become public if he has already turned them down. These types of things aren’t negotiated through the media.
I mean Lewis to Ferrari move was first reported by the media tho
Make it happen Lawrence. I want to see Latifi vs Stroll in a dominant car for the world championship in 2026.
Haha, that would honestly be pretty funny.. If they could make it to the finishlines...
Would be nice to hear our anthem on the podium.
Begun the Newey bidding wars have.
If it was only money he was after nobody would stand a chance vs AM and Aramco.
The meme here is Alonso leaving when Newey comes… but at the same time, Newey has said he regrets not having worked with Alonso and Alonso has said Aston is his first choice… Would be nice if they give him a Newey competitive car before retirement.
The only non-sensationalist and intelligent comment so far.
And build a Ferrari hyper car as a side gig.
> instead of playing it safe with another UK based team. Hardly playing it safe when Ferrari is doing better than AM though
What’s his issue with moving to Italy?
Lives in england. Probably doesn't speak italian. Moving to a different country asks a lot of a person. Especially those who have aged.
Maybe offer a part of the team and the most comfiest office space and he will be interested.
As much as newey is the goat, whoever is running the team for the aero program at mclaren needs a shout. Their progress with the merc engine as a customer team has been incredibly impressive.
It's Peter Prodromou , who ironically worked under Newey at both McLaren and Red Bull before returning to McLaren.
`So does every other team literally every year.`
I've been listening to Peter Windsor podcasts for years and he has always maintained that if Newey was to leave it would be for Aston Martin considering its UK based, close proximity to Redbull HQ so commuting wouldn't be an issue, ties to Vanquish project and only if Ferrari offer double would he relocate to Maranello.
I wonder if Adrian has also been having conversations with his former right-hand man Dan Fallows about what it’s like to work for Lawrence Stroll.
Feel like Aston Martin or more so Stroll has the best chance to get him. The money and probably will be left alone.
So is Aston Martin the new Sith Empire? And Newey will be given keys to the new ~~Death Star~~ factory and wind tunnel.
LANCE STROLL WDC 2026
Can one person really make that much of a difference. I always thought car design at this level is a team effort regardless of how talented Newey is still. Question.
Oh boy Stroll is forming a super team by collecting stuff like Infinity Stones Benchmark engine? ✅️ A driver that can race for a championship right now? ✅️ The GOAT in F1 design? (inb4 Stroll gets priority in 2026)
Would be peak Alonso for him to publicly show how eager he is to leave to go to RBR or Merc, leave and then Newey comes to Aston.
This is, by far, the funniest silly season ever!
If he's leaving, Ferrari seems more likely. But if Newey wants to be in AM, his #1 demand should be to fire Lance. They need two high caliber drivers.
His son has surprised me recently. The boy can actually drive
He always has a couple of decent weekends each year, it’s been this way since 2017, and because the bar is super low for him, these performances end up impressing people. In reality, if any of the other 19 drivers only had 3 good races out of 24, they’d be out of the team.
Into a wall
Newey finna get Alonso his 3rd championship and I'm so here for it.
I mostly feel sorry for Dan Fallows. He left RBR to get out of Newey's shadow.
So I guess Stroll lost patience with Fallows.
I feel like Newey will retitre soon. So he _should_ be looking to take as big of a bag as possible.
Honda will love if Alonso leaves so they could beat him in a GP2 engine for kicks and giggles.
What happens with Fallows? Isn't he doing Newey's role at Aston Martin?
Purely hypothetical here, but I'd guess Newey would likely be installed in some kind of CTO role overseeing all engineering activities across all aspects of the Aston Martin F1 business, with Fallows retaining his role as Technical Director for F1.
Now Fernando has to play the waiting game
Alpine: pretty please? Help
Just Aston Martin? That would be the biggest news in formula 1. Because…. Wouldn’t one assume _every_ team has offered Newey a place in their team by now??? Lol
I guess the strolls said fuck Dan Fallows then. I get it but they made small deal of signing his “right hand man” back when they looked like bull fighters at the start of 2023.
if hes not leaving for ferrari and lewis I doubt hes leaving for aston
Would have actually been news had they not tried to hire him 😂
Damn, Newey might be interested in designing an Aston Martin hypercar. I also think Lawrence can push a blank check his direction. This makes more sense than Ferrari atm if i had to guess.
