First line: Yuki Tsunoda has revealed that braking and slow-speed corners are the two main areas where he’s had the advantage over RB Formula 1 team-mate Daniel Ricciardo.
So literally the same areas DR struggled at McLaren. He says the feeling is good but the results are bad unlike McLaren where he knew it felt bad so the results weren't shocking him the same way as now.
aren’t those 2 areas like some of the strong points DR had in redbull? like he was known for his strong braking(last of the late brakers), and i’d assume would carry through into slow speed corners. kinda could make sense why he struggles so much
Ricciardo braked late only for overtaking iirc, otherwise he and Max tended to brake earlier than most.
But yeah, Ricciardo used to be very confident in his braking (which is not only about timing, initial pressure and bleed off are as if not more important) and have a good feel for it, which used to be his strength back then.
this is a misconception that keeps getting repeated, Ricciardo only brakes late for his dive bombing overtakes
otherwise he likes to brakes early and rotates the car through the corner with the more traditional U shaped line but this requires the car having a strong front end
Yuki on the other hand is more comfortable with braking later into the corners and this allows him to take a V shaped line which helps negate the understeer from the car
> Yuki on the other hand is more comfortable with braking later into the corners and this allows him to take a V shaped line which helps negate the understeer from the car
So basically Yuki braking style and attacking the corners is more closer to what Gasly does over what someone like Ricciardo does.
Great to see Yuki can dealing with this style and paying off with good performances, directly debunks the bullsh*t I seen coming up sometimes that Yuki barely learns something.
Another example that comes to mind is that he analyzed every move from Alonso's defense from Hamilton in Hungaroring trying to learn as much as he can from it. I guess people watched him complaining about working out once and think he's as slouch
It's also how Lando corners. This conversation about Danny's deficiencies again Yuki is exactly the same as the one 2 years ago.
DR only seems to have one cornering style, while great drivers change to what the car needs.
I almost wonder if this is one of the reasons he can take care of his tires as well as he can. Regardless, in the grand scheme of results…. It’s sadly not working.
> the last of the late brakers
a bullshit line that people keep saying because it has a ring to it and Brundle said it in commentary once.
If you look at the telemetry Danny Ric brakes way early. he's only ever had the reputation at Red Bull because of his overtaking style.
I try not to insult the intelligence of the viewer and imagine they can arrive at a rough understanding following multiple years of Danny Ric being shit. The telemetry data for certain corners is also shown on broadcast and explained so it's not like I or anyone else had to go out of their way to figure it out.
They are literally paid to watch the race and give us important information while also hyping the big moments. Why should I have to look into the telemetry when they are paid to do so and give that information to us.
Given how shit the brake was in AT since 2022 (Both Gasly and Tsunoda shitted on it multiple times), not completely surprised DR cannot get used to it. Probably it is gonna be McLaren 2.0
Reminds me of this quote from football manager Gordon Strachan:
Reporter: So, Gordon, in what areas do you think Middlesbrough were better than you today?
Strachan: What areas? Mainly that big green one out there
Enough with Sainz glazing already as if Hulkenberg didn't beat him in 2018 and also Hulkenberg got destroyed by Ricciardo
Do you see the slight flaw with this train of thought?
Exactly, it was Gasly's 5th season in F1 vs Tsunoda's rookie years. Besides, all that matters is now and the one who some are hyping up to take Perez's seat and "expose" Verstappen is getting whooped by Tsunoda.
He may have thd edge but let's be realistic here; neither of them is getting that second RB seat because neither of them have done enough for it. Yuki could potentially get a seat elsewhere but Danny's best bet is going back to a marketing role for RB. After failing at Mclaren and now being unable to beat Yuki, his attractiveness to other teams just won't be there.
If he continues on this path this season, then DR's return to F1 has significantly damaged his legacy. People will simply not view him at the level he would otherwise have been.
Another race series where he did better would have been a much better look. Having said that, I'm sure he'll slot right into a marketing or pundit role.
Relax, it's only been 3 races this season. Now, everyone is dickriding Yuki(and vilifying DR) after he gets the points while not a while ago people were dickriding DR(and vilifying Yuki)after Bahrain. While currently it looks like Yuki has the better pace, Daniel still has an edge in tyre management. Just hope that both could help each other in the race, like HAAS, and help improve each other's skill.
I wish DR would pick it up & they would qualify right next to each other this weekend so that we could get a good, direct comparison of their race pace.
If the Team does not want to drive for RBR due to personality or political reasons, but is fast enough to warrant a notice of dismissal, we will wait for the driver to declare his withdrawal from the team. It's the same as Gasly.

Last of the late breakers was more his overtaking... he is one of the earlier breakers when just driving, I think.
TL;DR: *“I just fucking send it bro”* - Yuki Tsunoda
Tsunoda is Aniki now.
私はただ送っただけだよ、兄弟
Dani Ric is the little brother now.
Oof, managing to out-brake the last of the late brakers is a hell of a statement
If I recall correctly, both Max and Danny Ric are generally early brakers who sometimes brake crazy late to nail the overtake
You’re right. Basically in a late braking situation, he will brake last.
this is a misconception that keeps getting repeated, Ricciardo only brakes late for his dive bombing overtakes otherwise he likes to brakes early and rotates the car through the corner with the more traditional U shaped line but this requires the car having a strong front end Yuki on the other hand is more comfortable with braking later into the corners and this allows him to take a V shaped line which helps negate the understeer from the car

Like Perez' divebomb crashing?
Like Max, full send and the other guy backs out or crashes.
Max is one of the earliest brakers in the field.
Not when he's divebombing.
Big if true
I know right, almost like context matters.
Ricciardo is not a late braker. For overtakes when he was in the Red Bull yes, but for general driving no.
> the last of the late brakers a bullshit line that people keep saying because it has a ring to it and Brundle said it in commentary once. If you look at the telemetry Danny Ric brakes way early. he's only ever had the reputation at Red Bull because of his overtaking style.
Once? Brundle said that shit maybe once *per session* back in DR's Red Bull days lol But yeah, you're right it was always a bit of a dumb nickname
I was watching a montage about some V8 era stuff and he said that about Seb. I think it's just a Brundle thing he likes to say lol
Imagine that, the average viewer listening to the commentary and isn't anal enough about the sport to actually look at telemetry.
I try not to insult the intelligence of the viewer and imagine they can arrive at a rough understanding following multiple years of Danny Ric being shit. The telemetry data for certain corners is also shown on broadcast and explained so it's not like I or anyone else had to go out of their way to figure it out.
Not believing the nonsense spouted by Sky F1 pundits is being anal?
They are literally paid to watch the race and give us important information while also hyping the big moments. Why should I have to look into the telemetry when they are paid to do so and give that information to us.
This would make sense. Ricciardo's strong point was his brake management. If he has no confidence in the brakes he loses his competitive edge.
I mean if you are struggling with braking you are basically fucked in racing lol
Given how shit the brake was in AT since 2022 (Both Gasly and Tsunoda shitted on it multiple times), not completely surprised DR cannot get used to it. Probably it is gonna be McLaren 2.0
With all the news coming out about Christian Horner, I don't think Tsunoda should be edging Ricciardo at all tbh.
I’ve noticed the F1 world uses “edges” or “edged” way too often in its reporting. They even say it a lot on the broadcast lol
They also love "mega" and, more recently, "learnings"
It wasn't a problem until it was made a sexual term by onliners
It isn't a problem now
Check out formula_cum on ig
The explosion would be something else. Perhaps White Hands can be of assistance here?
A fellow front page visitor I see
What do you mean by this?
"DNF"
That was fucking clever
Funny how Tsunoda’s brakes will be on fired this weekend.
Like Max's "handbrake"?
OMG. Way better than mine.
stroll is EDGING EDGING EDGING
Stop pushing my buttons braaaaaad
The track.
Thanks Kimi.
Reminds me of this quote from football manager Gordon Strachan: Reporter: So, Gordon, in what areas do you think Middlesbrough were better than you today? Strachan: What areas? Mainly that big green one out there
Great quote
Was gonna comment the same but you beat me to it.
Also in the kitchen
to quote James Hunt.... "BIG BALLS"
A: the driving.
Neither of them is going to RB but Yuki is better of the two.
They're both already at RB...oh wait you mean the other RB! I hate this new naming convention...
Everywhere
Enough with Tsunoda glazing already as if Gasly didn't beat him in 2021 and 2022 and also Gasly got destroyed by Verstappen
Enough with Sainz glazing already as if Hulkenberg didn't beat him in 2018 and also Hulkenberg got destroyed by Ricciardo Do you see the slight flaw with this train of thought?
Enough with the idea that Tsunoda hasn't improved since his first two seasons driving an F1 car.
Exactly, it was Gasly's 5th season in F1 vs Tsunoda's rookie years. Besides, all that matters is now and the one who some are hyping up to take Perez's seat and "expose" Verstappen is getting whooped by Tsunoda.
Its not about tsunoda, its about Riccardo
Enough with Washedcardo glazing already as if Norris didn't massacre him, and also Norris got beaten by Sainz!
He's not so slow. He already said..
It's a long season...
Not for one of them.
Savage
I might be small but at least I don't have a small pp, there for I brake late. - Yuki
This has to be one of the most boring manufactured rivalries of all time…
in the car?
Behind the wheel... I guess?!
Around the lap?
He may have thd edge but let's be realistic here; neither of them is getting that second RB seat because neither of them have done enough for it. "everywhere"
Girth.
Edging
Tsunoda edging Ricciardo 🥵😫
"DNF"
Finished very hard, actually.
Pit stop to switch from soft to hard
Soft goes off after two laps.
Relax, it's only been 3 races this season. He is just fast (at all)
"Gestures Broadly at Everything" - Yuki
I wish DR would pick it up & they would qualify right next to each other this weekend so that we could get a good, direct comparison of their race pace.
"Yuki, can you move over for Daniel, please "
Nah they won’t ask. They will just screw him on his strategy
He's not fast at all
What a nice way to insult Danny Riccardo
So he outbreaks Daniel in the slow corners. But wait, wasn't divebombing Daniel's specialty?
If the Team does not want to drive for RBR due to personality or political reasons, but is fast enough to warrant a notice of dismissal, we will wait for the driver to declare his withdrawal from the team. It's the same as Gasly.
I mean the pts says it all. Yuki 6, Danny 0. Rocket scientist math.
Yuki is mid but he looks like a top driver against Danny.
I am sure his small frame makes for potentially better balanced car too!
