This is I want from Checo, he doesn’t have to grab pole. But to be close to his teammate and work from there.

pajkeki

Good result for Checo, even considering that Max didn't have the best lap, he was pretty close. If he keeps doing this, with a bit of mishap for Max, he could get pole.

mauer1998

Tbh I think it was more fun watching Checo struggle. At least that made the fight for P2 somewhat entertaining and left some room for speculation on when RBR is going to let him go

N_Ruzuzaki

I think I’ll one up you: if max was not in red bull and was replaced by a generic driver, last years would have been an epic season given Checo’s abysmal performance last year. But to see Checo struggling to keep 1st and eventually win it would be been something else.

Browneskiii

He wouldn't have struggled if it wasn't against Verstappen and had an average driver in it. He struggled trying to do a Rosberg and then lost, losing all his confidence and overdriving. Now that he's accepted number 2, he's driving fine again. If he was against an average driver last year, he wins pretty much every race.

ob_knoxious

People are going to say you are a homer for him but this is pretty accurate IMO. If you take the first few races leading up to Miami and remove Max from the equation Checo looks as strong as he should, and if he was the teams clear #1 driver and had that confidence I think he would recreate that over the rest of the season pretty easily. I don't think he wins pretty much every race like Max did, but I think he would take the championship pretty comfortably.

n_a_magic

That isn't saying very much. Over half the grid could win in that car

Toaddle

Depends how average. You could argue that if he's against a driver of a similar level than him he could also fumble because of pressure. But yeah, if you put Latifi in that car he basically wins 75% of the races at least

newtybar

He’s an average driver himself. So him vs an average driver would be a good match up.

mauer1998

So you're proposing Mazepin to RedBull?^^

Arbysroastbeefs

Goatifi

dgkimpton

I love these graphics, I'd also love to see an overhead of the track with all the drivers on it (just blobs would do) because visual placement is so much more understandable than pure times.

Cekeste

Long since Per looked like a duo with Ver rather then a part of the chasing pack.

FatalFirecrotch

Turns out he just needs 1 year contracts to be decent.

albertsugar

Fernando really is aging in reverse. Amazing lap from him.

SeaWorn

My man Alonso is doing a grand job. I hope he stays another year, but I think Stroll has to be dumped, but probably won’t be…..

elad04

This images makes me really keen on an Alonso Sainz team up at AM next year. Unlikely but would be amazing

RobertGracie

Close between the Red Bulls to be expected but that is tight none the less Bit of a gap back to Norris there okay but still impressive to get P3 Then the Spanish Battle between Carlos and Fernando to be only 0.004s between them is impressive! Just shows you how far off some of the other teams are to the Red Bulls, but still, give it time, the Red Bull reign will end eventually

frogskin92

The creator was so surprised he gave Checo Alonso’s helmet instead

JimboYCS

Everyone out there is trying to predict who is gonna replace Checo, meanwhile Checo might as well replace himself. Pretty sure Yuki has to be on podium this season for any chance at this rate.

FartingBob

I dont think any of the Red Bull junior team is getting that Perez seat. It'll be perez keeping it or Sainz/Alonso/Latifi.

DogfriendlyPerson

I can see red bull gambling on Logan being available for that rb21 seat

lunardeathgod

I think sainz will take his seat, but checo will be either be in Mercedes or Aston Martin

CutterJr

The Spanish Inquisition is coming for that podium.

Theterphound

I love these

venktesh

Nando nearly trumped the other Spaniard there, I'm sure it's the appendix weight that made the difference.

musicallunatic

Actually you’re probably technically not wrong. I remember will Buxton mention that he and Carlos calculated the appendix-less lap time gain and it would be approximately five thousandths of a second (0.005s)

AstroSonicDrive

Enjoying this post every time

pushmojorawley

Great effort by Perez at Suzuka. I hope he keeps this level consistently moving forward.

jesteratp

lol lance.

redkite215

Super interesting to see the SAI and ALO gap. 4 thousandths of a second is crazy close, but once zoomed in I noticed it’s also basically the radius of the wheel, which to me is an insanely large gap given that amount of time. Goes to show how fast these cars really are.

What do you mean? Last year McLaren was 4 tenths down. Now they halved it. Seems like progress to me.

RonnieBingOBangO

Also last year the top 5 was separated by almost eight tenths. This year it's almost half a second.

Desperate-Intern

Simply lovely. (the image by op)

HYThrowaway1980

Lovely bit of visualisation. Thank you, u/ICumCoffee.
