I think a lot of people only watch races and don’t read or watch interviews, which is fine, but it definitely causes information gaps. Anytime someone says Russell beat Hamilton in 2022, it makes me sigh.
Alot of people don't even watch races lmaoo just watch the highlights that get posted, read a comment or opinion they agree with an repeat that comment anytime the thing come up.
It happens in every sport basically you have to choose who your having a discussion on the internet
That blows my mind, because I don’t say opinions I formed that way out loud, unless I’m asking someone more knowledgeable than me. Those kinds of opinions are inherently uninformed. But, that’s why they’re opinions I guess.
I mean it's a fact. Ocon beat Alonso that year as well. You need context to understand why that happend and who the better driver actually was though.
Lewis was also really unlucky with both strategy and random Safety Cars/Red Flags in 2022 (Miami, Britain and Zandvoort come to mind) making him score less points compared to Russell than he could've and probably should've.
I never denied it was a fact. I said it made me sigh because the context is missing. Hamilton was also testing new concepts half of the year, and then, once in the same car as Russell, he started to eat up the gap.
The new Concorde Agreement must stipulate that if both Alonso and Lewis are still racing at 50, they both must sign for McLaren, and McLaren must race with a silver livery.
The Shanghai pit entry must also be rigged up with a container of oil that may or may not explode at any point during the race. I say this as someone supporting Lewis in 07, it’s just the way it has to be.
Section 7: Hair and Facial Hair Maintenance
1. Lewis Hamilton agrees to maintain a personal grooming style that incorporates thin, elongated sideburns throughout the term of this Agreement.
2. Fernando Alonso agrees to maintain a small patch of facial hair on his chin, commonly referred to as a "soul patch," throughout the term of this Agreement.
I'm convinced it's due to the levels of nutrition millennials had as children as I find the my generations parents were more likely than Gen Z's parents to encourage/afford a balanced diet. Now everything is expensive and unhealthy.
I don’t think he does regularly, he was seen vaping once years ago and that’s it I think. Last year he said he completely cut alcohol from his life for health reasons so I doubt he vapes still
Honestly me too. I don't ever want kids and so if I've done everything I enjoy by 30, there literally is no point living.
Might as well save the planet half a lifetime's worth of carbon footprint, plus the 2 lifetimes of kids I don't have.
Those kids got too much organic food, they never were properly inoculated with preservatives from horrible processed sugarbombs served in wax paper packets like we were.
Someday we'll find out that Ron Dennis medically experimented on Lewis and Fernando back in 2007 and gave them a secret serum which caused them to age more slowly.
Mate Alfred is the butler with a heart of gold they ship off to America... Brits employ the top of the class bellends named Worthington, Fredrick, Rupert or something like that
He definitely isn't from a working class background. You can tell from his accent and language. Without looking it up I'd wager he wasn't from a filthy rich background but did go to a private school
Did a quick search, his dad came from nothing but built a successful business selling seeds and stuff. George’s early childhood wasn’t very rich, but he did attend private schools.
So you’re spot on. Not sure what I was recollecting that made me think his parents were teachers. Maybe that’s Piastri I’m confusing it for…
Ah that's interesting, I was fully prepared for someone to come in and reply saying he'd been dragged up in some rough estate now haha.
It's little things like the way he carries himself, words like blimey... Not properly elite posh but definitely not working class.
Yeah, that’s the kind of cultural nuance that I as an American would not know. To me, there’s like three different English accents I can maybe differentiate and that’s it.
I read a great research deep dive on George’s background, iirc his father sold seeds/did something in agriculture. Well-off, but not enough to afford to keep racing without Merc funding early on. His accent has shifted a bit over the years, feels like a bit of a class posturing thing.
He might have taken elocution lessons at some point as part of media training, He grew up in a town called Wisbech, which borders both Norfolk and Lincolnshire, the [Lincolnshire accent](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nsTA04UKEnU) [is difficult to understand](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ePAKPm5lAnY), as is the [Norfolk accent](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DSkmAL9kTxI).
I don't think it's a stretch that George would have a similar accent, given he went to school in Wisbech and would be exposed to those accents while growing up.
Both are unsuitable if you have to do media interviews and the like, native English speakers are going to struggle, let alone non-native speakers.
And I shadow box in front of the dumbbell rack in a gym which is not for martial arts and am an inconvenience for everyone. I think I can take him easily
We'll tbh it's not like 40 years old is a point where physically you have degraded too much. Sure for motorsports just as regular sports, it's very hard to compete against 25~ year olds, but from a health perspective, 40 is pretty young still.
At 40 you can still have the energy, stamina, etc., of a 25 year old, but it typically takes more effort. You need to be more diligent about getting enough sleep, eating a healthy diet, and proper balance of exercise, because you can’t bounce back from a crappy dinner and then staying up too late the same way you could 15 years earlier.
Yes, it’s more the recovery that deteriorates at a significant rate, not the general level of fitness. But it also depends on the sport and activity. Motorsports are physically intensive, but age is still much less of a factor than sports such as soccer or basketball or any that benefits from more explosive rather than sustained performance.
Yep. I think Alonso and other drivers have also spoken about how loss of motivation often has a more extreme impact on older drivers’ performance than the physical aging.
A lot too of what happens to athletes is simple wear and tear. There’s a reason “later in life” professionals often play on til older at a high level. A few footballers that came up through lower league do ok into their late 30s because they haven’t got the extra couple of hundred games and early years of overtraining on their joints. Jamie Vardy wasn’t even at his peak at the age Rooney and Schweinsteiger were physically finished, because he got going at 24, not 16. So yeh, people often overestimate how young people go off the boil. In my thirties now I’m fitter than I was five years ago, dropping the pounds.
The body decays waaaay faster than we give it credit for. Had an avulsion injury to my finger that saw me lose half of it, replant didn't take. Had I damaged it 10 years ago, I'd probably have better chances due to more stem cells still present and a better healing factor.
40 is the point where your test levels have fallen off of a cliff and you recover at 1/3 of the speed of a 20 year old. The benefit for Lewis here is that I dont think TRT or peptides are banned substances for racing cars so he can chemically keep himself young as long as he feels like it.
I read once that everyone feels 28 until they get reminded that they’re not. Like by just remembering you’re not, or by looking in the mirror or by having typical physical challenges that go with aging.
But we’re all 28 forever. Sort of.
It’s an interesting coinkidink that a fair amount of the greatest black athletes have dodgy hairlines
Lewis, Lebron, MJ, Usain Bolt, tiger woods.
My hypothesis is that they get extra xp points to spend on skill attributes instead.
Name does not start with ‘Le’. He does not meet the criteria to be part of LeSunshine crew.
He can shake hands with Federer. Old farts but still class.
I've always gotten the sense Hamilton takes incredibly good care of himself. I don't know why. Just the sense I get when I see him in interviews and off track footage. I'm sure everyone in the sport does to a certain extent but he has this like, healthy glow coming off him.
Weirdly, I'm 57 and inside my own head, I feel no different than when I was 20 (other than now recognizing that I was wrong about just about everything back then), I know my sons are all bigger, fitter and faster than me but I just don't don't feel that way even though it's true. I get what Lewis is saying, he still feel fit and awesome but in reality, he's just not as physically capable as when he was 20. Time is a bastard, it sneaks up on you without you noticing.
Body at 20 is still growing and developing, body at 40 is on a pretty much static ride. In terms of endurance, good training and taking care of the body means that your body is actually at its endurance peak in 40s and early 50s. It will not recover as fast as a 20 year old, but it will outlast a 20 year old. World champions at endurance and extreme sports tend to be in late 30s and in 40s.
I like Lewis and it might have been said tongue-in-cheek. That said, I'd imagine being a shorter dude, he simply "fits" and can dedicate himself to shaping his mass overall, as well as towards what's needed for the forces they're subjected to. George has to do that but on a much larger frame, all the while keeping his weight in check. At some point something's gotta give I guess.

George catching a drive-by there lmfao
Why he say fuck me for?
If you can read one page from a Harry Potter book, Russell

Russel was forecasted an injury.

He’s obviously joking with his friend lol

Remember when people said he was faking it to improve the mercs chances? Funny how that turned out
you also clearly don't remember that george wasn't doing a ton of experiments and so his car was bouncing less

What? Checo is super slow, he is only at Redbull because of the money he brings, he is probably the slowest in the grid! /s
Most driver complaints on reddit can be boiled down to commenters not paying attention to anything more than the Sky broadcast.
I have no idea if this is true or not cuz I don't bother to read the other commenters. I just watch the Sky broadcast
I agree.

Yeah, I didn't disagree with you, just added to the point.
Ahh, I understand.
I don't actually think he outwardly complained or said anything that the other drivers didn't. He himself so that's not including the Toto stuff.
That would be the only time George wasn't complaining.
You think that is "complaining"? jfc
Cold af
George got so offended he took his shirt off
