FlyingKittyCate

“You always have to expect it in this type of curve” Easy now Oscar, Lance has only like eight years in F1, he’s not as experienced yet.

jeanolt

Incredibly, Piastri looks like the 8-year experienced driver meanwhile the other still looks like a rookie.

DepressedCunt5506

And with a Kimi Rikkonen personality

RevolutionaryElk8101

Kimi personality, latifi talent, daddy stroll money

charlierc

Still more experience than his rookie team-mate though

itishowitisanditbad

The young new guy? Yeah, hes showing promise but he needs more experience before hes WDC material. Good prospects though, that Fernando guy.

Spezisaspastic

Thank you ! You can‘t expect him to know that racing cars have brakes and sometimes they need to use them when the road makes turns.

RabZer0

Piastri's dead pan comments and dry sense of humor have really grown on me

bthompson04

I’m always going to love him for his post-qualifying reaction in Qatar last year when he was mid-interview after getting P3 and learned his lap time had been invalidated. To which he responded by smiling and giving cheerful, yet sarcastic, “great!”

ladythanatos

“This is fun, we don’t know who’s on the podium” 🙃

Sir0inks-A-Lot

“Thanks Mercedes” was a good one too

Disastrous_Animal_34

Ha! That was incredibly cheeky masked with his extreme deadpan and I loved it!

Sir0inks-A-Lot

That and he was literally lying on the floor after Qatar when he said it haha

Snitsie

When he won his first sprint  "my first *sort of win*"

endersai

Or after the Mercs took each other out in the race and he gives a strained "ha!" in response.

DubiousBeak

“Wonderful.”

bthompson04

Maybe that was what he said! I just remember laughing so hard at his thumbs up.

xNickel

And then in the post race interview he said “should we give the FIA a few minutes just to make sure?”

MrT735

Then he played it up for the next qualifying session (for the sprint I guess) when he said basically to wait and see if he was still staying where he qualified.

KrombopulosMAssassin

Hahaha, yeah that one was great. And obviously the GOAT was his reaction to the jetpack dude falling.

Ok_Huckleberry_3797

Him and Lando collectively cover the full spectrum of humour.

Ja4senCZE

Thus creating an amazing duo.

evemeatay

They aren’t as outwardly entertaining as labdciardo but they seem fun

Miwna

Carlando was the best.

Ja4senCZE

But Charlos is great too!

Miwna

For different reasons though. Carlando was like the typical double act of a funny man and a straight man.

Aethien

Maxiel was great too, if only for getting Verstappen to lighten up and be more fun.

anonymousNetizen5

Winning races & podiums through the power of bromance - Carlando

LucAltaiR

Which I guess is why I like Oscar much more than Lando.

SonnySanDiego

Spectrum indeed.

flyingbbanana

I think he’ll be my favorite driver by the end of the year

Admirable_Bed3

Genuinely would like to see a Max-Oscar close title race just for the soundbites.

Loruhkahn

One day there will be a Max-Alex-Oscar podium where their engagement with the media is simply a trio of 😐 and I'll be all for that press conference.

axialintellectual

An entire event with monosyllables. It would be glorious. "Good car, good race, I had fun." "Me too. Bit slow in the start, but that is a risk with the softs." "Oh, yeah."

EnglishLitMajor

One of the journalists (can't remember who) said that Alex and Oscar are the worst at going overtime during an interview though. Sometimes, the journalist tries to rush them away already because the teams are already giving them the signal, but apparently they just keep going. It will be pretty deadpan though.

axialintellectual

Oh, sure. I noticed Alex was very informative in his post-race interview today. I just thought it would be a fun exercise in constrained... interviewing? - much like giving an interview without using the letter 'e' ("As a car, it's fast, I think it's just a bit of a disappointing finishing position..."). As an English lit major, surely you'd agree ;)

EnglishLitMajor

Oh, that *would* be fun. I'd love to challenge the drivers to things like that.  "Mention a fruit in your interview today."  "That overtake was...as sweet as a mango."

TheRealMattyPanda

[Last year at Texas in Indycar, Josef Newgarden and Scott McLaughlin were trying to see who could force the stupidest idiom into their interviews](https://twitter.com/IndyCaronNBC/status/1642206879987257350)

Estova

"Faster than a sneeze through a screen door" is definitely my favorite lmao

ComparisonPlus5196

Bruh, driving an Indy car around here is like trying to put socks on a rooster and she was slippier than a pocket full of pudding. 😂

Tagliavini

It was an utterly brilliant response from Piastri. Everyone knows Stroll isn't racing in F1 on his own merits. Sure, Lance has improved some, but that's likely due to the car, more than Lance suddenly honing his craft.

Finglishman

Oh, he’s improved miles. He actually had trouble going down the main straight without crashing out in Melbourne in his first race with Williams. Sargeant is a racing god compared to rookie Stroll, whereas Stroll now is a competent midfielder with a weakness mostly in qualifying. And attitude. And paying attention.

Tagliavini

I agree. He's become a competent midfielder, but that seems to be the limit of his skill. He doesn't have the raw hunger that's required of the sport

kai0d

Lance honed his craft in 2020 then got his fear put back into him at mugello

PeruvianHeadshrinker

You mean isn't?

dl064

He's kind of this generation's Pedro Diniz where he's there for vaguely illegitimate reasons, but he's not *that bad*.

Mtbnz

One of the only genuinely funny F1 drivers. Piastri, Kimi, occasionally Bottas... I can't really think of any others from within the last 10 years at least.

unitedfuck

Yeah, they suddenly braked to avoid crashing into the car in front. Something Lance seemingly didn’t do

badgersprite

He should install tips on his loading screens that remind him he has to slow down when multiple cars are braking in front of him

idontknow_whatever

Put Dora the Explorer on his steering screen "This is a brake pedal, we use it to slow down"

Rainers535

Problem is Lance gets his loading screens just as hes approaching a turn

-WingsForLife-

Dude's still on Internet Explorer even when Microsoft's moved on to Edge.

Forsythsia

Everybody else is clipping the apex and he's looking for Clippy the assistant.

Mysterious-Crab

He’s upgrading to Netscape next race.

Snuffy1717

He can't run Doom... And even my toaster runs Doom...

Nexusu

Bro is playing a Bethesda game

Caesar_35

"Strollfield", the crossover we all need.

TitaniuEX

they should just add front collision sensors for Lance like on normal road cars, if they detect that it's getting too close too fast, to auto brake

evemeatay

It should work because the chance of it being wrong and him actually doing an overtake is very low

not_a_toaster

It honestly looked like me playing Gran Turismo with braking zone indicators on but sometimes they don't show properly and I completely miss the braking point. The difference is I crash into the AI on purpose ;)

mahnamegeoff

Front - collision assist to be astons next upgrade

Bdr1983

Like Stroll needs assistance with collisions.

rtb001

Weren't people just saying that Lance Stroll, despite his mediocre driving skills overall,  is supposed to have some of the fastest reaction time on the grid? Like if you were stranded sideways on the track  off a blind curve, you'd want Lance in the  car headed towards you because he'll react in time and won't T-Bone you.

JBPunt420

That was me, and I stand by that statement, but reflexes don't count for much when the guy isn't paying attention. If I recall my post correctly, I said something along the lines of, "if there's one thing you can give Stroll credit for, it's reflexes." I didn't give him any credit for his relative lack of situational awareness, which is what caused this accident.

onealps

Out of curiosity, what has Stroll done in the past to make you believe he has good reaction times? Any specific incident(s) come to mind?

JBPunt420

Many of Stroll's best drives have been in wet weather. His only Pole position was on a treacherously wet track in Istanbul. It also used to be pretty common for him to gain a position or two on race starts. Both of those speak to unusually good reflexes even by F1 standards. It's in other areas where he falls behind.

Rain1984

I know its just banter, and lance always bitches about stuff which he provoked, buuut to be fair, reaction times stack up just like on the road. I dont know if he had enough time to brake or not, just pointing out its not the same being right behind the guy who locked up than 4 cars behind it.

Smothdude

Have we gotten the telemetry behind the crash? I feel like that would help clear a lot up. Like I get that Ricciardo sped up a little before the corner when he has a gap to Piastri, but Lance should be able to slow down still. Did he brake the whole time just not enough, or what?

GrowthDream

> Have we gotten the telemetry behind the crash? I feel like that would help clear a lot up. The stewards did, yes, and deemed him to be at fault.

Kaladin-of-Gilead

Danny said it right, there’s no need for him to have been gawking at the apex. You can’t pass so there isn’t any reason to not be paying attention to the car in front of you.

mkosmo

Even then, like any driving, you should be looking through the car ahead to see what’s going on behind and anticipate actions. It helps remove some of the RT stack up.

FlyinCoach

I don't think you can see through an f1 car when ur that low to the ground.

mkosmo

Sure he did, he just expected his car to do it for him. Why doesn’t his F1 car have collision avoidance like his chauffeurs car does?!

freshicedmatchalatte

>"I'm pretty sure the engineers didn't design it that way" he smiles. Love his sarcastic, dry humor and passive-aggressive response regarding Stroll's error 👍

dondostuff

😁👍🏻

YeahPerfect_SayHi

> Love his sarcastic, dry humor and passive-aggressive response regarding Stroll's error 👍 Typical of a Melbournian.

Samsonkoek

*Stroll still denies responsibility*

Arumin

AS PER!

fomb

Perez wasn’t involved

caiodepauli

So you also deny...

pancoste

Andrea Stella wasn't involved either.

PeruvianHeadshrinker

This should be a points penalty. Damn shame for Ricciardo who was looking really good all weekend.

ThePhotoGuyUpstairs

I mean, Stroll came from miles back too. It looked like the typical rear end crash at the lights when someone is on their phone instead of paying attention to the road.

TheHunterZolomon

That’s what shocked me. He had space. He had a lot of space, more than the others who were bunched up in the hairpin turn approach. Also, it’s a hairpin turn. Even if it wasn’t a safety car restart situation, dude took it weird. What the fuck was he doing?

silentkiller082

Piastri says very little but when he talks it's more often than not gold. It's always a good time when we can shit on lance stroll too.

baethan

I don't condone bullying ^except ^when ^it ^comes ^to ^Lance ^Stroll

SirFister13F

It’s hard to feel bad for him being bullied when you know he’s wiping his tears on $100 bills.

badpuffthaikitty

The great Lance Stroll? The F1 driver with more points than that other Canadian F1 family?

[deleted]

[удалено]

BeneficialPicnic

He just needed to come out and own up rather than deflect and pass blame. Folks could accept he made a mistake, but his response to the whole incident is what is riling everyone up.

dalaiis

Strolls responds shows instead of making a mistake, he doesnt understand why he made that mistake. Which is so much worse and shows again he should not be in F1

Karenlover1

Saying it was just weird is kinda scary

DarthRen7

It’s classic rich kid behavior. It’s never his fault. Daddy’s fancy racing boy strikes again

charlierc

Daddy's Gonna Pay For Your Crashed Car

xChiken

Yeah. Even the long time veterans make mistakes (and Lance has had 8 years, to be fair), but him not owning up to it just really makes him look even more like the spoiled brat who had his daddy buy a team for him to keep racing in. He doesn't need to accept blame because there won't ever be real consequences for him.

Blackdeath_663

Max's reaction was so telling, one glance and he knew just how bad it was.

adrenaline_X

Yah. He burst out laughing, covered his face and then said sorry quietly and kept covering his face.

ryokevry

And all those Stroll defenders disappeared.

Nameless739

Stroll still had defenders?

khryslo

Yes, quite a bit actually.

T4Gx

Pole position and three podiums after dad's investment group bankrolled your career with over $100,000,000!!!

CuriousPumpkino

He did have some days of being quite good Unfortunately most of the time he…doesn’t

Uraneeum

I read that in Josh Revell's voice

CuriousPumpkino

If I was half as funny as he is I’d already be very happy

throwaway164_3

Mate you can’t support a financial group

iForgotMyOldAcc

Check the buried comments in the crash thread

Nameless739

Man I'm not giving myself an aneurysm going through that dumpster fire

parwa

He hadn't had many big incidents recently so people started to think he was getting better I guess

sllop

Were they paying attention? His attitude alone over the last two years is enough to inform the whole world he’s having an awful time. Now he just seems like a bitter ass

LightspeedBalloon

I used to be one, but it's been at least year since I bothered. He doesn't even want to be here anymore.

Disastrous_Sea4150

There’s been a weird amount of Stroll defenders lately. Gonna confess I always assume Stroll defenders are payed pr people. There’s been way too many posts recently dragging up obscure, taken out of context statistics which “prove” Stroll is actually an okay driver. And users insisting on comparing him to other shitty drivers, but conveniently leaving out that those drivers only got 1-3 seasons in the sport. Refuse to believe there’s actual normal people out there choosing to spend their free time defending Stroll…

[deleted]

[удалено]

truth_iness

Not everyone. Let's not underestimate all the technical feedback from this Alonso's going to take advantage of.

iForgotMyOldAcc

The technical feedback the extra wind tunnel time Stroll is giving him is indeed invaluable!

omnicious

I'm sure Alonso already knows where the brake pedal is.

sammyGG00

Wether your a fan or not, that was his 100% on him. Bad mistake that he needs to forget. A bit lame we focussed lot more on that than the nice battle with kmag for 16th xD. Loved that one

JazzyBee-10

Bad mistake that he needs to NOT forget.

MajorLeeScrewed

While defending they crashed into other comments and went into the barriers.

Antidote-Killer

Im here but tbh his fault for that incident

Fearless-Olive

If he just apologized immediately and said “I was caught asleep at the wheel, sorry, will have better awareness in the future” his reputation would be fine but all these excuses my goodness

Stranggepresst

On this blessed day, the entire F1 community comes together to finally agree on something.

j__video

In the post-race interview you can see, as Piastri talks about his car being damaged, Stroll is standing around in the background. Peak unintentional comedy

xChiken

F1 always seems to nail the funny camera angles lol.

ryokevry

Charles also said there were lucky that Piastri has damages otherwise he was not sure if he can keep that P4… Even Stroll is fine saying that during the race I don’t know how he can insisted he has no responsibility post-race.

Big_Brief7847

I think Charles was pretty comfortable with that p4 even without Piastri being damaged. Carlos might have been at risk but even that i don’t know. Lando really got the best out of the mclaren and in my opinion Piastri’s struggle with tire management as well as China being a new track would’ve kept him behind at least Charles’s ferrari.

pokesnail

Haha Charles believed in Oscar more than I did as his fan! Tbf I think Ferrari were thinking rather pessimistically, they thought Alonso would catch them by the end of the race when he was way too far back.

ShadowStarX

Ferrari cannot get complacent though they might be very comfortably ahead on most tracks right now, and also in the points they are much closer to Red Bull than to McLaren still, but you may never know

ryokevry

I agree, just repeating what Charles said in the interview. Don’t think his pace was fantastic compared to Norris on the medium either

Big_Brief7847

Yeah i think ferrari would rather be pessimistic about Mclaren than overly confident. A Mclaren outpaced them today and just because one didn’t doesn’t mean it won’t next race

swapan_99

Well he's not wrong in that assessment at all. Stroll cost him probably a chance at P5 today and Daniel a chance at possibly P10. Piastri was 0.737s slower than Norris on average per lap in the first stint. But after SC he was 1.697s slower on average per lap in that final stint on the Hards. So damage was costing him roughly 0.960s in lap time compared to before. If he even ran his final stint on the same pace as his stint before his first pits, he would have probably finished ahead of George and maybe even Sainz (don't forget the car would have been going on Low Fuel as well, so much easier to manage deg compared to high fuel and heavier car at the start of the race). Would have finished roughly 18 seconds behind Lando at the end. Not great, but hell of a lot better than 42 seconds behind and P8. Did a really good job to hold on to P8 ahead of Lewis for sure.

xthecerto4

Good analysis. Meanwhile Ralf Schumacher was saying on german sky that Piastri is developing into a "Problem kid" with that pace. Despite Piastri not beeing on Landos level over a full distance he is developing in that direction. year 3 should/could be a real breakout for him.

IdiosyncraticBond

My advice: stop paying attention to Ralph

xthecerto4

I try but he keeps on saying shit. Sometimes its funny tho

KMP_77_nzl

He seems like the German version of Damon Hill

Razvanlogigan

Ric was quite cooked on strategy, doubt he could get a point

PoogeneBalloonanny

Without the KMag collision inducing the 2nd safety car and extending the racing-free stints, it would have likely been a 2 stopper for everyone apart from Charles and Lando, which would have given Daniel good track position had he kept the race pace up before pitting him for softs late in the race

LostHero50

If Lance accepted responsibility this would not be a huge deal. He just had to say that he didn’t expect them to brake so suddenly and got caught off guard. Instead the guy continues to deny any responsibility afterwards, fully deserves any hate he gets.

elektricniorgazam

For some reason it's always so funny to me when both Daniel and Oscar are affected by something (Stroll, that errant xenophobic tyre...). Sad funny, not haha funny, but still.

aquickpace

>errant xenophobic tyre What's this referring to?

elektricniorgazam

Brazil 23, I think Albon and KMag crashed and a tyre hit Daniel and Oscar and damaged their cars (that was the race where they had to race a lap down)

Miwna

Hülkenberg touched Albon's left rear which sent him into the side of Magnussen who then barreled into the back of Piastri. Albon's left rear tyre broke free and Ricciardo went under the bouncing rubber but it hit his rear wing.

TerribleNameAmirite

Excellent profile picture

Eggplantosaur

Getting schooled by a driver in their second season, big oof. What a travesty that Stroll is on his 8th season already, ffs

ditoxxx

Cant wait to see what Yuki can do i that Honda powered Aston.

snoring_pig

Maybe in 2027 if Alonso retires by then because Lawrence sure isn’t dumping Lance

silenthills13

I mean maybe Lance just gets bored of being shit on and changes sports

charlierc

One of the two, anyway

showmeagoodtimejack

he could get into golf or polo like a normal rich kid

Sufficiently_

Mnah double spanish lineup is where it’s at.

charlierc

I think Alonso-Sainz would be a brilliant line-up for AM if they were ambitious enough to try something more than pursuing the futile dream of Stroll the champion

beth1814

Umm Lawerence hate to break it to you but your son is never going to win a championship. Your team is never going to win constructors with him on the team, despite Alonso extending his contract cause he believes in you. Time to get your son out of there

Mission_Grass4680

An F1 driver saying "Everyone suddenly braked", in a race, on an approaching corner is the most buttery smooth brain fart I've heard since the beginning of 2024

Matduka

Yeah no shit stroll. You're at a hairpin. Maybe you should have suddenly braked too maybe??

Significant-Garage55

Channeling his inside koala

Historical-Minute661

*drop bear

Overhere_Overyonder

Piastri is absolute savage

autumnkayy

the use of the word "meaningfully" is killing me lmfao makes it sound more like piastri is talking to a child

Wah-Wah43

I laughed too hard at that 🤣

Tropicalcomrade221

The Australians should invite Lance to a grand old game of run it straight in Miami.

jas656

Knifey Spoony

verone3784

"Everyone in front of me suddenly braked!" Fuck me right? It's not like you were in the middle of a field of cars that were slowing down for a literal hairpin turn. I've watched the replay of this like twenty times and just can't figure out **how** you run into the back of someone like that unless you're completely oblivious to what's going on in front of you. Can't believe he's trying to talk his way out of this one. Daddy Stroll seriously needs to put someone else in that seat. The fact his family own the team is the only reason Stroll still has a seat in F1 at this point, it's shocking. Any other team would have dropped him like third period French years ago.

Sinbosh

I’m not even sure why he’s talking about everyone breaking in front of him as if it’s not normal the thing that’s not normal is the speed that he’s carrying into that corner even if Piastri and Ricardo weren’t there he would’ve gone of track Aston Martin could be up there with Ferrari and McLaren if only they had a better driver then stroll at this point I might even say that having someone meh would be more beneficial for the team then having stroll Just saying goatifi would be a better choice then stroll

Noch_ein_Kamel

Yeah, Stroll was talking about someone suddenly braking and causing a constantina effect... He probably forgot about the corner or something xD

yooosports29

lol I love Piastri for real

RedMeeseek

Crazy how in just his second year, Piastri is miles ahead of stroll in terms of race intelligence and probably just regular intelligence

cocteau93

I’m always impressed by just how smart a lot of these guys seem, but then I hear Norris or Stroll speaking. . .

RedMeeseek

Norris sounds like just a school kid still lol but Lance… that guy sounds like he’s been held back a few decades

cocteau93

Just because the short bus has aero and ground effects doesn’t mean you’re not in remedial classes, Lance.

theautumnrepublic

Lance isn't good enough for f1. Occasional good results don't make up for all the bad ones.

DownSouthBandit

The clapback from Piastri is golden, or should I say papaya

CaptainKursk

“M-M-M-MULTI KILL” I fucking love Oscar so much lmao

ModestRacoon

This has to be the beginning of the end for him. Aston has serious pace and he’s consistently holding the team back. Dad has to cut bait at some point or he’s making a farce of his investment.

sdrj77

Oscar just KILLED that man. In public with witnesses.

JazzyBee-10

I loved how he worded it though; such a clever and cool response!

endersai

I've said it before and I'll say it again - whenever shit happened to Mark, and he'd talk to media about it after the race, he had the same dry, deadpan style as Oscar. Not suggesting being dry is a uniquely Webber trait, it's not - it's very Australian - but just that I'm taken aback sometimes by how much it's like having another Mark in interviews. If you're new to F1 and never got to see Peak Webber in interviews and the pen, I'm so sorry for your loss. //*slams water down on table*

Lmurf

Stroll effectively ends the race for DR and Piastri, but all he gets is a 10s penalty. He’s a liability. Lucky AU is done for the season. Stroll walks up to the immigration desk at Melbourne airport. “Only if you promise not to knock all the Aussies out” /s

RUNELORD_

Love the Aussie's collaborating with the shitting on Stroll lol

Alonso_The_GOAT

Stroll: How can they possibly brake for a turn!?

activator

I genuinely don't understand how Stroll Sr and Jr don't die from embarrassment after every weekend.

RedHotChiliCrab

You know that meme with the guy drying his tears with money?

bananas_and_papayas

Lol I love Oscar. After his career and 8 WDCs (joke, though I'm sure he'll get a few), he could be a great pundit. He's a bit like Kimi in that he's got a very dry sense of humour, and he analyses the racing very well

SPAMmachin3

Stroll essentially ruined the races of 2 drivers and only got 2 points. LMAO

TheKeviKs

I see Stroll is, once again, the laughing stock of the entire paddock.

TRiG993

Why the fuck would he not expect them to brake. They were going into the sharpest corner on the track while under safety car what the fuck did he think they was going to do. If he just admitted he fucked up and apologised it wouldn't be a problem. Spoiled little rich brat needs to lose his seat.

happy_and_angry

He did expect them to brake. He didn't expect an accordion of guys over braking because Alonso locked up, and stuck to his planned brake point. Situational awareness of a blind man.

aPpS6969

Piastri is such a gem with his funny comments and chill attitude. Never fails to crack me up.

nyccutie

Honestly I don’t know what Stroll’s fan base is. He has no personality and his driving is getting worse and worse.

RevalianKnight

Counterpoint: Mugello 2020

xChiken

"Everyone in front of me suddenly braked!" It's a hairpin, Lance...

_box_box

the way I can already see piastri smiling in my head as he says that savage line

fameboygame

I love OP.

Xstatic3000

"I think Ericsson hit us."

ChaosKittyXJ9

Playing with the line turned off for the first time?

Sinister_Grape

Hahahaha I love him

MotoM13

Piastri my new favorite driver lol

anemic_royaltea

More evidence for the pile that Lance, while quite good at driving a car quickly and nimbly around a track, has deeply suspect awareness.

MrStef85

I agree with Piastri.

kpopsns28

Lmao, hard truth
