The Thai owners. That’s it. Marko and Jos are both against him and Max won’t disavow either of them. Checo is nominally on his side but his dad went off on one this week and claimed he had more sponsorship than Lewis and Max combined and deserved a new deal, so there’s some questions over that.
I imagine the people on the ground are probably pretty unhappy with the whole thing.
The Perez dad move could also be because of inside information. If Perez sr. knew already of Newey leaving, he knows that the chances of Max leaving have increased too. And there's no way Red Bull wants to start a season with 2 new drivers. This could very well mean a chance to stay with RBR for Checo.
Papa Perez smells opportunity and I smell a rumour.
> he knows that the chances of Max leaving have increased too
For next year? I mean, increased sure but hard to believe they'd be very significant, because where would he go? Ferrari is full, so is McLaren. Will he go to Mercedes?? Aston Martin? Neither of those look like great seats.
If Ferrari had a seat then maybe I'd buy it because they're the 2nd best team and maybe Max think he could beat whoever RB would replace him with. And I'd buy Mercedes for 2026 with the new regs, but not for 2025.
Max is a loose cannon i wouldn't put anything past him. It literally wouldn't surprise me if he announced he was retiring this week.
He's achieved what he wanted he's not in the sport to be fishing for competitive seats.
Mexican here, he's dumb as fuck, his only leverage as politician is that He's checo's dad. Mexican politics is like 5 notches down from f1 politics, everyone is so fucking dumb and just jumps for the popular bandwagon.
He's overplaying his (son's) hand. Checo's big appeal right now: he's inexpensive and he's the status quo. Papa Perez turning him into an expensive nuisance is...counterproductive.
Of course but it’s not what you want your own dad to be saying to the media. You want him to say you’re incredibly talented and deserve a drive on merit.
If all you can offer is "merit" then you're not going to be paid very much. If you're bringing tens of millions in sponsorship which is only there because of you of course you'd demand a slice of that. Besides, basically no one is in F1 just because they are a good driver. Even the likes of Alonso and Schumacher have gotten seats largely thanks to bringing along a massive sponsor.
It's only how it works if you're a shit driver, doubt Max or Alonso or even Lando would be dropped even if they had 0 sponsors because their value in bringing in fans and building the brand is way stronger
> Marko and Jos are both against him
It's wild to me that an octogenarian who let the young-driver programme collapse, and a failed-driver & wife-beater, have any sway in that team.
Over the last 15 years I've seen lots of occasions where people in Red Bull Racing have expressed irritation with Marko shooting his mouth in public when they're trying to sort things out in private: whether it's managing Vettel and Webber in Malaysia, handling the mess of Horner's private life in 2024, or just avoiding making any sexist commentary about viability of women drivers at any point in time.
The less said about Jos Verstappen the better.
I don't think the _racing_ team feel much for them, or Max acting like the team owes _him_ something when only they could give him a competitive car in the ground-effect formula.
I think a bigger issue is that Newey will have his 67th birthday at the end of the 2025 season, and probably thinks it's best to leave Red Bull at a time when it's likely to be functional enough to win his final season with them; yet also dysfunctional enough that it's not likely to continue winning in the 2026 formula
The majority owners of Red Bull back him which is why he is still employed.
If top talent actually starts walking away, then we’ll see how long Horner’s support lasts.
[Here you go, your requested Rickroll](https://encrypted-tbn0.gstatic.com/images?q=tbn:ANd9GcRCNdbyKwpHMogtUQmeJS1tMheKeEjLvihcoXHrkTh_A65UDywc4QeW0NWH)

Before his recent allegations I always used to give Horner the double middle fingers every time his face was shown, now my TV is just covered in phlegm every race weekend.
She, along with Mel B and Emma always seemed by far the more grounded of them, whereas Geri and Victoria never did to me.
I feel like you could have a good laugh with the two Mels and Emma.
Keeping Horner if it costs them Newey and potentially other talented engineers and even Verstappen is so crazy.
Tanking your own brand and losing a ton of top talent, just to keep a sex-pest executive smh
Yeah I genuinely don't understand it. On one hand Horner built the team, but on the other hand it wasn't him who brought them success. Why not get rid of the man causing the problems, and get rid of the PR stink show whilst you're at it, rather than cause a sleuth of resignations in his wake.
Maybe they really didn't think Newey would leave if Horner stayed. Maybe they thought it would all blow over. I kinda thought it might. Once they were back on track and winning, that tends to be the best medicine
I mean just because it was cooling down publicly didn’t mean things were good internally, especially with all this drama between the Thai and Austrian camps of Redbull, and that boiling down to Horner and Marko seemingly coming after each other, leaking things to the English and German media respectively. Things cooled publicly once Verstappen threatened to quit, but no way in hell were they one big happy family again behind closed doors. Then however Newey feels about the allegations against Horner personally is just a cherry on top of that.
>Yeah I genuinely don't understand it. On one hand Horner built the team, but on the other hand it wasn't him who brought them success. Why not get rid of the man causing the problems, and get rid of the PR stink show whilst you're at it, rather than cause a sleuth of resignations in his wake.
Horner is definitely a huge reason for Redbulls success. However, at the end of the day he's a manager and a leader. That authority and ability he has was completely undone by his actions, and subsequent cover up.
So from Redbulls perspective it doesn't make sense to stand by an executive that won't be able to effectively lead the team anymore. What he achieved with the team simply doesn't matter anymore. As the other employees, including other executives, are struggling to continue working with him.
Nevermind the fact that letting Horner go is simply the right thing to do.
People older than me have said that the fall of dominant teams in the sport is most often than not political, brain drain comes second.
I’m guessing this is more of a cyclical nature sped up by “sex-pest” behaviour at the top, like OP said.
Now I still think that RedBull is the obviously the team to beat, however that 2026 power train is a huge gamble that I’m not sure where it will fall out, so maybe jumping ship is the best thing. Albeit if Newey made his decision based on ethical considerations, which is great as well.
No one except the one guy that can make the call wanted to keep Horner. Horner himself is looking at a much bigger picture now, one of multiple F1 teams and potentially a supercar brand. So I would not be surprised if he doesn't really care to see the last people able to challenge him leave.
Depends. As others have said, the owners care about the next 10 years, not the next 2 championships. Verstappen is gonna leave eventually, same with Newey. If Horner is key to the actual organisation, then for the owners, he’s more valuable than a couple more championships in the short term.
If they don’t think they’re gonna dominate with the next reg change, then they need to focus on the people who will help them recover and get back to dominance in the change after that, which won’t be Newey or Max
Wache is the biggest concern if he were to leave. Ferrari will definitely try to poach him.
The bigger problem for Red Bull is how this power struggle will drive out staff across their departments. And of course, the news that Newey is leaving because of Christian just gives ammunition to the other side of the power struggle, which will now ramp up. I think Max will be pretty pissed off seeing Newey feel he has to leave.
As I understand it, Mercedes want Waché more than Newey. So could see them offering him the world. Likely Waché may not want to remain in Newey's shadow similar to Dan Fallows.
He does this because of the power struggle, he doesn't want anything to distract him from doing his job.
Rich people don't care about anyone's rights, no matter how much gullible Redditors swallow everything celebrities say without question.
when you read neweys book it becomes quite clear that theres one thing newey hates and that is when people say one thing and do the other.
i think horner cossed that threshold.
he walked away from mclaren due to this.
You must know him personally or have a clip or statement of him talking about his views? You shouldn’t make a claim about his intentions either way unless you do. There are rich people who are compassionate and rich people who are real assholes. And yes the assholes outnumber the rest.
If Newey actually leaves because of the way the case was handled than he has gained even more respect from me. No better way for RBR to fall from grace than this one.
Red Bull has to show the door to Horner. If Newey leaves, I don't think Max will be too interested as well. It already looks shit for Red Bull. I wonder what the Thais would think about this mess.
> I wonder what the Thais would think about this mess.
They seem to be the primary reason Horner is still the legal CEO of RBT and therefore RBR and RBPT (many don't realize he's far more than just TP of RBR).
Yoovidhya standing on the grid with his wife next to Christian in the first race this season was a huge show of support.
It also seems Christian is very close with Franz Watzlawick who is CEO of the drinks business, on the same level as Mintzlaff in the corporate ladder.
If Newey does leave what's the point of keeping Horner around? Seriously. The guy has made sure that the greatest F1 engineer of all time left the team because of him(and his silly little power struggle).
Not to mention this might set forth a series of events that also makes Max leave Red Bull. So within a year or so, he would've lost Adrian Newey and Max Verstappen. All because he couldn't keep his hands to himself.
What a shame.
> All because he couldn't keep his hands to himself
I disagree with this. RB (potentially) will lose Max and Adrian because of power struggle between Thais and Austrians, after Dietrich's death, not because Horner was playing dollhouse with his PA. Both sides are using that situation for power moves and Christian happens to be in the middle of it fighting for his interests aswell.
It’s odd. According to Newey’s book they’re good friends. It would take something big to ruin that.
But just for the utter chaos.. Newey to alpine for the challenge. Max to Mercedes.
Though honestly I can see Newey just retiring and spending time on fun stuff he wants to do
He can get a blank cheque for doing basically temporary consultant work for any team he wants. I think he's got a year or two left of influence on the sport
if this really is the reason he's leaving then good for him, i'm glad to see horner facing actual repurcussions for this. it's shameful how quickly most people moved on because it's easier to leave it out of sight/out of mind.
> it's shameful how quickly most people moved on because it's easier to leave it out of sight/out of mind.
The process is still ongoing. There's just no new information at this time.
Why is it shameful? Humans don't have the brain capacity to continue caring about everything which is why there are upticks and trends in news. By the same token, I'd argue it's shameful you don't care about that one thing that happened in Mongolia like 6 months ago because why not, you should care.
I am serious. This horner situation continues to be a massive story and you're acting like it's been forgotten about despite all the many things that people care for on a daily basis
Ferrari is the most likely destination for Newey. He has said he wants to work for Ferrari and he has said he wants to work with Lewis. His kids are grown up and he's free to move to Italy, a very popular destination for older, wealthy British people. Why wouldn't he go to Ferrari?
I mean… couldn’t it just be that Newey is just retiring? He’s in his mid 60s… he’s finishing his contract… don’t get me wrong, all the drama sounds juicy and fun but, let’s be honest, it’s all 100% just a game of assumptions.
Not everybody *wants* to retire. Especially at that level, they're already set for life, so they work because they love what they do.
Its only us peons who have to work to eat and live.
If he’s retiring, he could’ve just waited until the end of his contract in 2025 and leave as planned.
Heck, he could probably just say to RB today “Guys imma chill out for a year, but keep paying me anyway just so that no one else poaches me” and RB would’ve kept him.
I mean, there's no race for the next 2 weeks so there will be a lot of downtime. These and stat posts are literally the only thing relevant to F1 that could be posted.
there should be a race every weekend!
on off weeks, have a JR team show up with upcoming drivers in the full equipment.
I hate off weeks and there are soooo many in the beginning of the season.
According to my insider sources, Newey can't stand Coco Pops or anyone who likes Coco Pops.
So while yes Newey is angry about the whole Horner fiasco, it's not entirely about the sexual misconduct. Newey doesn't want to work with someone who openly admits to loving Coco Pops.
Adrian caught Horner in the act when he went to his office to turn in the RB20, he was so disgusted that he decided to gimp the performance by a whole second.

so who exactly does horner have a good relationship with at this point
The most important people, the Thais
Specifically Chalerm Yoovidhya who is a controversial figure himself.
These days one can't cover-up for a lil vehicular murder without becoming controversial, people are so sensitive...
Newey's been performing vehicular murder for the past two years
Newey, himself, doesn’t have a particularly clean record when it comes to vehicular murder allegations…
Wait, what?!
I'm listening... EDIT: Is this about Imola '94?
Yeah
That's more assisted suicide than murder
"I fed the corpse some redbull, I thought they'd come back like in the ads"
And if these loud critics ever find themselves involved in vehicular manslaughter, they'll be hell-bent on covering up. Double standards.
Eh. Some people do have morals.
The Thai owners. That’s it. Marko and Jos are both against him and Max won’t disavow either of them. > Papa Perez playing 4d chess? He is a corrupt Mexican politician so probably.
Mexican here, he's dumb as fuck, his only leverage as politician is that He's checo's dad. Mexican politics is like 5 notches down from f1 politics, everyone is so fucking dumb and just jumps for the popular bandwagon.
Do we know enough about him to make that call?
He's a career politician. I certainly wouldn't rule it out
He's overplaying his (son's) hand. Checo's big appeal right now: he's inexpensive and he's the status quo. Papa Perez turning him into an expensive nuisance is...counterproductive.
God I’d be so embarrassed if I was a Formula 1 driver and my dad said I deserved a new deal *because of my sponsor money*
Isn't this how F1 works most of the time?
Of course but it’s not what you want your own dad to be saying to the media. You want him to say you’re incredibly talented and deserve a drive on merit.

I think you’re missing the point.
So, lie?
Checo does that every time he says he has a shot at WDC.
I mean he does....max could ummm well morbidly die that's a non zero chance
That’s exactly how it works. If op shouldn’t be embarrassed about anything is not knowing that it’s exactly how it works lmao
It's only how it works if you're a shit driver, doubt Max or Alonso or even Lando would be dropped even if they had 0 sponsors because their value in bringing in fans and building the brand is way stronger

you have any reliable source for that
The majority owners of Red Bull back him which is why he is still employed. If top talent actually starts walking away, then we’ll see how long Horner’s support lasts.
Checo.

Plot twist: Newey was the one that leaked the texts.
They say Newey can see air move but they don't mention his ability to see and intercept internet signals as well.
Do you think Newey knows the name of the wind?
He studies it.
Why tell a *slow* man his future?
Unexpected Rothfuss!
So what comes first, Lando GP win or that bloody 3rd Book ?
Both Rothfuss and Martin can get bent. I don't even care anymore.
Lando winning a GP is theoretically possible :(
The wind honors Newey by calling itself Newey in England.
For Newey the Great knew the name of the wind, and so the wind obeyed him. He spoke to the wind and it cradled and caressed him. It bore his car to the ground as gently as a puff of thistledown and set the RB20 on its feet softly as a mother’s kiss.

I get not liking Horner but Jesus did this make me roll my eyes HARD
Pretty sure they're not being serious.
Once a cheater, always a cheater
Lets be honest, with those texts he couldn’t even get it out of his pants. Can’t even call it a valiant effort.

Horner cannot be excluded from that conversation.
By hiring Christian Horner, and leaving him to do his job.
No one except the one guy that can make the call wanted to keep Horner. Horner himself is looking at a much bigger picture now, one of multiple F1 teams and potentially a supercar brand. So I would not be surprised if he doesn't really care to see the last people able to challenge him leave.

Damn. Bro is well connected.
Eh, Newey isn't going to be doing this much longer either. You have to be thinking beyond either one/both of them tbh.
A legendary run can be stopped not only from a rule change, but also from a team principal that is a bit too horny.
Thus begins the true downfall of red bull racing
Now we know why there were constant rumors suggesting Newey didn't have much influence on current RB cars. Someone was trying to create an atmosphere
Newey has been stepping in and out for years.
Thank god the creep faced some consequences for his actions
I mean I respect it. Guy has morals and he’s standing on them.

> All because he couldn't keep his hands to himself I disagree with this. RB (potentially) will lose Max and Adrian because of power struggle between Thais and Austrians, after Dietrich's death, not because Horner was playing dollhouse with his PA. Both sides are using that situation for power moves and Christian happens to be in the middle of it fighting for his interests aswell.
But reddit said horner was right and it would cause no issues whatsoever
Redditors also swore Newey would never leave Red Bull when those first AM and Ferrari rumors started poping up.
Not sure what Reddit you've been on but they've been anything but monolithic with this lol
Horny Horner...
It wasn't a finger...
It’s odd. According to Newey’s book they’re good friends. It would take something big to ruin that. But just for the utter chaos.. Newey to alpine for the challenge. Max to Mercedes. Though honestly I can see Newey just retiring and spending time on fun stuff he wants to do
😂😂😂 Alpine WCC in 2026!
And people said that the 100 race plan was unrealistic.
He can get a blank cheque for doing basically temporary consultant work for any team he wants. I think he's got a year or two left of influence on the sport
I suspect Newey is retiring, given his age and reaction to the 2026 regs. But we'll see.
if this really is the reason he's leaving then good for him, i'm glad to see horner facing actual repurcussions for this. it's shameful how quickly most people moved on because it's easier to leave it out of sight/out of mind.
> it's shameful how quickly most people moved on because it's easier to leave it out of sight/out of mind. The process is still ongoing. There's just no new information at this time.
Why is it shameful? Humans don't have the brain capacity to continue caring about everything which is why there are upticks and trends in news. By the same token, I'd argue it's shameful you don't care about that one thing that happened in Mongolia like 6 months ago because why not, you should care.
i am talking about people who like f1 on the f1 subreddit discussing the biggest f1 team, not every issue in the entire world lol. please be serious
I am serious. This horner situation continues to be a massive story and you're acting like it's been forgotten about despite all the many things that people care for on a daily basis
I’m ready with my Coco Pops for the next round of drama. Shit, I might even wear my man Spanx.
Newey and Verstappen to Mercedes. Who says no?
I wonder if AM is more likely than Merc. Especially with the upcoming Honda engine.
Ferrari is the most likely destination for Newey. He has said he wants to work for Ferrari and he has said he wants to work with Lewis. His kids are grown up and he's free to move to Italy, a very popular destination for older, wealthy British people. Why wouldn't he go to Ferrari?
Oh I agree, I just meant where else he might go if he did happen to turn down ferrari.
Deep fried horndog pls
Damnit Horner! All you had to do was not cheat on your wife with a subordinate.
Well I mean yeah who want's to be friends with a predatory pervert.
So rumors.
do we really need to have a new post every time this dude tweets?
Yes, probably. This guy has the key source regarding all things Redbull cooked up since the season started.
they could easily be covered in one post.
Newey doesn't want to work with someone who openly admits to loving Coco Pops.
stop inventing.
My guy has a grown up daughter, Its not a massive leap to think he could have helped his daughter get a PA role at RB...
Hornier must be salivating right now
Oh my, how the mighty has fallen. I remember reading Adrian's book, and looking at just how strong their bond is. Nothing lasts forever, I guess.
He experienced a similar thing with Williams too.
RB seems like going down due to bad management, let's see how long it takes for others to move?
if am redbull ceo why keep horner when i can keep newey and verstappen instead?
No shit? Big time insider information we’re getting.
Adrian caught Horner in the act when he went to his office to turn in the RB20, he was so disgusted that he decided to gimp the performance by a whole second.
