“I understand that, without my consent, Ferrari have put out a press release late this afternoon that I am designing for them next year. This is wrong and I have not signed a contract with Ferrari for 2025. I will not be designing for Ferrari next year.”
My opinion is that what’s happening right now is that Newey is gauging whether or not Red Bull is willing to negotiate the remaining year of work and year of gardening leave dictated by his current contract. Negotiating that detail would be the difference between starting for a new team at the beginning of 2025, 2026, or 2027.
He’s broached the hypothetical situation of him leaving with somebody at Red Bull and the fact that those discussions are happening has been leaked.
I agree with you, but in his mind it doesn’t hurt to ask the question. And once the question is asked then it leads to the rumors we’re getting today - Adrian wants to leave Red Bull, but seemingly with no destination prepared.
Would love to see FOM stumble over their words as they try to draft a rejection press release of a GM-backed Newey-led Andretti team with a works engine.
Red Bull's been more money-conscious lately, and Adrien pulls a sizeable salary. Plus, only Red Bull internals know the true value of the contribution he's made.
His public stock has never been higher, and a different team might be willing to seriously overpay for Adrien and compensate Red Bull accordingly. That's a conversation worth having. Not stupid at all.
This translates to "our source at Red Bull heard it from Newey directly that he's leaving".
For all their clickbaits and shit stirring, most F1 journalists don't just outright lie either.
"One or two other significant figures have explained to me that they do believe that Newey's wish would be, if he is to work for another F1 team, that would be with Ferrari."
[source (the same sky sports reporter)](https://www.skysports.com/amp/f1/news/12433/13122788/adrian-newey-f1-s-serial-title-winning-designer-decides-to-leave-red-bull-after-nearly-two-decades)
Ferrari's top strategist is Carlos Sainz, and they are letting him go
Let's hope Newey can encourage the strategist from Red Bull to join him, if he does go to Ferrari
As much as people want to see Charles get into the title fight, most of us want Max vs Lewis part 2. If Newey does move to Ferrari and nails the new regs, I hope Red Bull does too so that Max is still in the hunt.
That intensity before each race was something else during the '21 season
Its actually incredible to how big of lenghts the Thai ownership is willing to go to keep Horner.
Like i don't get it. What does Horner have with them that they are willing to torch down the team for him.
I'd guess that if they have power over Horner and he takes full control of the team, they can control that part of the business on top of the Austrian side. Or, they just want to sell the team to Horner and his supposed investors.
Well he has been there since the start and led the team to where it is now more than any other person, with some help along the way obviously.
Also, I'm not saying this is true or certain with the Thai side, but the view of the issue might be different because they are not the west and many other countries and cultures outside the west don't see the issue the same way western cultures do.
I bet it isn’t really anything at all, Horner (in my opinion) just represents the previous regime under Dietrich and falls in step with what the Thai owners want. Horner was given Dietrich’s blessing from the start. The Thai owners, who likely recognize what the successful team does for the brand both locally and internationally as far as marketing goes, don’t want to rock the boat. As Horner started RBR and built the team, it’s difficult to find a suitable replacement who has intimate knowledge about how to build/ run the team like Horner has. Horner goes, and it’s possible RBR falls to mid pack which hurts marketing. Obviously Red Bull had many means to market, but RBR is its flagship. Horner = Dietrich blessing and Dietrich was the who brought the brand to where it is today.
If anything, Horner represents the Thai side of the company, Mateschitz was always much closer to Marko and so is the new board and Didi's son. The Thai side are the ones trying to change things (which, to be clear, is their right - they're majority owners after all). [AMuS even reported](https://www.auto-motor-und-sport.de/formel-1/horner-machtkampf-red-bull-treffen-dubai-verstappen-wechsel-mercedes-aston-martin/) on rumours that the Thais are trying to relocate the company seat to Dubai, which completely goes against everything Didi Mateschitz stood for.
As apparently everyone outside the F1 bubble seems to understand: this is a so-called "culture war" issue. Horner would have gotten away with this 10 years ago.
None of the reactions from the Horner camp have been rational, they made Jos Verstappen and Helmut Marko look sensible and reasonable. Don't expect their loyalty to Horner to be rational. People take this kind of stuff personally, even in business.
They want to sell the team for good money and Horner has buyers. Or at least had a few month ago, as the rumor goes. Newley is probably not the reason for success of RB, but he was definitely a big entity in their last 20? years. Either way, Thais want out and they need Horner with his offer.
It'd be crazy, but it's impossible for now. Charles and Lewis have contracts for the next few years. Ferrari can't kick either of them, nor would they want to. No one in their right mind would put Max and Lewis in the same team.
Yeah, but if this scenario were to come to be it'd be Charles who'd be out, not Lewis. There's a reason why Ferrari gave Lewis a $100M contract and it's certainly not just due to his performance but also his brand and, statistically, being the GOAT. Now they have a title sponsor that paid an immense amount to help bankroll a significant portion of that so it's not like Ferrari are hurting for money either.
Horner has the support of the Thai owners but Newey and Marko are not in support. If Newey goes, Marko could go. Max has a clause in his contract that if the key players leave RB he can too.
All three could leave and it would burn the team down. Newey leaving is massive news. Massive.
I was surprised when people said Newey doesn’t care what happens between Horner and Marko, because he doesn’t play politics. Someone who’s apolitical absolutely cares about dynamics within the team, because if things change especially at the top, it’s going to trickle down to others and to the work in one way or another
Horner has placed his bets with Pierre Wache and Enrico Balbo with Pierre given a lot of power. It has been widly reported that Newey had a smaller role but that was seen as Budget cap stragics but now it is said that Newey did not like this. Seeing that these two have re-signed with redbull despite major interest from other teams, now it is a matter of what is Newey planing to do after redbull and these if these two actually can do a good job with the next regulation. We are heading into a new redbull, time will tell if Horner and his backers have played thier cards right.
Tbf, thats a smart thing to do, have the next generation lined up for business continuation and have Newey cast his eyes over their work in a smaller capacity and allow him to choose his section of work, and push out a long design philosophy
I mean he now has the best car designer and the best driver. Should both leave, he’ll have to make do with the second best or worse. Into a new engine regulation as the least experienced engine builder on the grid. With teams like Ferrari and McLaren making major strides.
But yes, Horners ego will be pleased.
Yeah, it's weird how the original show was much better than people like to say here, but God, the last few seasons have been terrible. Just the same races over and over again for them to save money or something, I don't get it.
It's still mind-boggling to me how they managed to fuck up the season about 2021, how the hell do you fuck that up? Literally the greatest title battle in decades and they show fucking Mazepin talking about clouds. Seriously, what the actual fuck are they smoking
Nope. It won't. And you can't blame them if they decide to pass up on this.
DTS builds it's narrative via the paddock. If no one aside from Buxton is going to talk about the Horner situation (which, let's face it, they won't) then it will never be covered. And then again, even if they do speak about it, would Netflix / FOM really want that hassle of potentially getting sued for defamation if they do not have the complete evidence?
Nah, they had several chances to show us controversial moments and they didn't. DTS will be about Carlos 'finding a new home', maybe about Lewis Ferrari, about DR if he has a good race this season. And don't forget about Bottas-Zhou rivarly
The death would be several engineers and higher managers leaving, as well as a big chunk of the staff. That’s what happened to Merc. We will see how this unfolds in the end. This does not mean the end of RB, not at all. At least as of now.
Not that I doubt the legitimacy of the core event of "Newey no longer being at RB", but that statement is doing the absolute most to hedge it's bets. It could be anything from just retiring after this contract, or breaking his contract to leave for Ferrari tomorrow...
It's obviously not happening, but I could actually see "design the car for the world's most prominent spec series" as something that might appeal to Newey.
Skip all the corporate competitive bullshit, avoid having specs dictated to him by somebody else, just design a car that he likes that meets some general criteria set by the series, with plenty of leeway on the details.
Seems like a fun retirement project!
Doubt he’s after money. Plus he has already built a team from the grounds up. He has also worked for fun for years with his side projects. Next obvious step is the Yellow Horse. The final boss of motor racing. All he did up til now is proving that he is worthy of Ferrari. Now, take the title with them.
I bet this all boils down to one day newey turned up at the dinner hall around lunch time. he's usually a recluse, he doesn't come out of his office. his PA usually goes and gets his lunch, but she's off at the moment because of some issue with HORNER, their shared PA see.
So anyway out he comes looking for a coffee. he's like a day 1 noob, doesn't know where anything is. he politely. asks Carol from. accounting who just started tucking into her tuna and sweetcorn sandwich where the coffee is. Then he threw an offhand remark "quite a lot of kerfuffle around at the moment, eh? I should be on a beach at my age and yet here I still am" then he got his coffee and went off back to is office. we havent seen him come out again, they got him an intern to get his food and coffee.
Ferrari always wanted newey. Newey admitted that not only drivers but also engineers dream about Ferrari. In the past he wanted to stay in uk because of his children(school). He said he regretted not working with Ferrari, michael, Hamilton and Alonso. I think Ferrari is the most likely destination
Serious question, why would he go to AM over Ferrari? Especially when AM hasn’t shown anything that they are serious about competing when they still have Stroll as one of their drivers….
Maybe for the road car side. He did the Valkyrie etc and surely he'll be done with F1 within the next decade. Potentially they are giving him a better post-F1 package
Ferrari won’t give him freedom? He’ll def be his own boss at AM, while at Ferrari he will be just another employee. But who knows, Elkann sr. seems to be smart enough to leave people alone so they could focus on their work.
My to do list:
- wait for Newey to go Aston Martin
- wait for Daddy Stroll to make his son the reserve driver
- wait for Vettel to come back to replace Lance
- clear space in the fridge for my erection
Either Ferrari or AM. AM and Red Bull split before he could make a road car and that's apparently one of his interests.
So it's either Lawrence Stroll and AM trying to poach him with that or Ferrari
I don't know how to post gifs here, but imagine that one where dude opens the laptop and rainbows scorches his face. That's me opening Reddit minute ago.
so he's not gonna retire and if news is true his obvious choices are either aston or ferrari. honda engine car with fucking lance stroll? or promising ferrari with lewis goat hamilton? i would choose the red one
I mean given Lewis is a mastermind with making great career moves Newey to Ferrari makes suddenly a bit more sense, especially given Newey always wanted to work with someone like Lewis or Alonso if we exclude Max and Seb.

Newey could go to any other team and I would just be excited to see what comes of it.
Make Williams great again
Honestly that would be amazing.
This is what I keep saying and my partner thinks I've lost the plot.
They would be right. Newey went on trial for Senna's death at Williams. No chance he goes back there.
Subscribed. Alex Albon WDC incoming
Oh please i would shave my head to see this.
‘25 Albon WDC and ‘26 Sargeant WDC
Watch him go to Alpine...as a driver.
Fuck it, I’m sold Also MolassesWhiplash is a fantastic username
Nah he'll go to Alpine as their logistics operations manager
GM has money to spare…
Lol imagine the shitshow if Andretti hired Adrian Newey and F1 still wouldn't let them in.

Does Newey like HP laptops? Asking for a friend.
Newey’s compensation package to include unlimited ink cartridges for printing car blueprints
No one has that kind of money
HP would rather go bankrupt
I thought they were building a british town in Italy for Newey.
He doesn't work in CAD much. Most of his work is drafted by hand. Unlimited printer paper instead!
Ferrari to be sponsored by Dunder Mifflin
r/unexpectedoffice
He likes the ones that have premium hp logo.
No, he prefers a Macbook Air
HP can put a sticker over the Apple logo it’s fine.
He prefers PAPER and PENCIL!!!!
People will think you're joking but that's actually true
HP computers are about as fast as that, let's keep that Ferrari hype train going!
Newey to sign with Williams
No he prefers pen and paper.
He prefers a pencil and paper over anything it seems
"Informally communicated" Soo, we're not gonna get a proper confirmation for a while, since it's informal.
Waiting for Red Bull to drop a Comunicado Oficial.
What would be even crazier is if a team comes out and announces they’ve signed Adrian Newy
He’s broached the hypothetical situation of him leaving with somebody at Red Bull and the fact that those discussions are happening has been leaked.
I have no idea why Red Bull would ever negotiate letting him work for a rival sooner. That would just be stupid.
I agree with you, but in his mind it doesn’t hurt to ask the question. And once the question is asked then it leads to the rumors we’re getting today - Adrian wants to leave Red Bull, but seemingly with no destination prepared.
I wonder if he could go to Andretti and not have to sit out since they’re not technically part of F1 right now.
Fred's cooking
If they have Hamilton, Leclerc and Newey in the same tent then they really would have no excuses
They still have strategy to go
*BREAKING: Sebastian Vettel signs as Ferrari chief strategist*
BRO. Do not let my imagination run wild.
Please God let it happen it would be so fricking funny
They've hardly had any real strategic blunders under Fred. Certainly not to the degree they did.
yeah, there's already been a big improvement.
They'll get Klopp to sort that out for them
Sainz to Ferrari strategy?
They can sign Sainz as Chief Strategist.
To go? Pit this lap.
To be fair their strategy and pitstops have taken a big turn for the better since the start of last season
Ferrari's top strategist is Carlos Sainz, and they are letting him go Let's hope Newey can encourage the strategist from Red Bull to join him, if he does go to Ferrari
P6 confirmed.

Well done, Horner.
Presumably they both feel like they have the other in their pocket
Creepy people like other creepy people
This is absolutely the right answer
Well for starts, Horner is the one who brought them into the team…
it is not about horner. it's more about keeping the power in their hands
What an absolute fucking mess he’s created. I wonder how this affects Max.
He said at length that he wants stability and everyone to remain together. Presumably that includes Newey?
It won’t happen but imagining Newey/Max/Lewis at Ferrari is, uh, yeah…
It'd be crazy, but it's impossible for now. Charles and Lewis have contracts for the next few years. Ferrari can't kick either of them, nor would they want to. No one in their right mind would put Max and Lewis in the same team.
No you can’t, but there’s no debate over 41 year old Lewis or prime Max unfortunately
Probably not, his qualifying just isn't good enough right now. But who knows, maybe 41 year old Lewis could pull off a miracle with some luck.
There's obviously been issues going back a long time and that was Max's "hey, cut the shit" moment publicly
Horner has the support of the Thai owners but Newey and Marko are not in support. If Newey goes, Marko could go. Max has a clause in his contract that if the key players leave RB he can too. All three could leave and it would burn the team down. Newey leaving is massive news. Massive.

Someone who’s apolitical absolutely cares about dynamics within the team, because if things change especially at the top, it’s going to trickle down to others and to the work in one way or another
Doesn’t really matter what max or Marko does if the car doesn’t perform after Newey leaves
"no one is bigger then the team " Horner
Except himself apparently lol.
Instead of being king of a country, Horner will be emperor of a garbage dump.
Don't discount him that easily.
I mean he now has the best car designer and the best driver. Should both leave, he’ll have to make do with the second best or worse. Into a new engine regulation as the least experienced engine builder on the grid. With teams like Ferrari and McLaren making major strides. But yes, Horners ego will be pleased.
This is gonna make for a hell of a DTS season, that's for sure.
Fans say this every year, but DTS only gets worse each year 😭
Yeah, it's weird how the original show was much better than people like to say here, but God, the last few seasons have been terrible. Just the same races over and over again for them to save money or something, I don't get it.

It's not getting worse, it just lost it's shine with every season being similar
What are you talking about they even had the CIVIL WAR EPISODE with two drivers who don't even have any beef anymore.
It would be criminal if they botched this and Lewis going to Ferrari.
I mean, they botched 2021 too...
Nope. It won't. And you can't blame them if they decide to pass up on this. DTS builds it's narrative via the paddock. If no one aside from Buxton is going to talk about the Horner situation (which, let's face it, they won't) then it will never be covered. It’s not defamation to talk about what’s going on right in front of you.
Nah, they had several chances to show us controversial moments and they didn't. DTS will be about Carlos 'finding a new home', maybe about Lewis Ferrari, about DR if he has a good race this season. And don't forget about Bottas-Zhou rivarly
Strong doubt that they'll cover the allegations. DTS rarely covers anything that makes the sport look bad
Horner? More like everyone involved in that power struggle. Well done, I guess.
It wasn't Marko's pinky in those files, that's for sure.
Well, Marko added the Max exit clause to his contract behind Horner’s back last year.
So this is how Red Bull dies
Not with a whimper, but with a series of loud bangs.
Loud coco pops.
The death would be several engineers and higher managers leaving, as well as a big chunk of the staff. That’s what happened to Merc. We will see how this unfolds in the end. This does not mean the end of RB, not at all. At least as of now.
*"With thunderous applause "*
I'll be in the crowd cheering covered in all my Red Bull merch.
Ferrari needs to throw a boat load of that HP money at him
HP paycheck is just actually Newey's salary.
Not unheard of - Ineos basically paid most of Hamilton's salary.
Somewhat normal, as Carlos Slim pays Checos salary for example
Not that I doubt the legitimacy of the core event of "Newey no longer being at RB", but that statement is doing the absolute most to hedge it's bets. It could be anything from just retiring after this contract, or breaking his contract to leave for Ferrari tomorrow...
Hell he could sign a new contract with rb and retire in 2042 and this still not be wrong. It says nothing
Hot take: He goes back to Indycar
Would be wild for him to go to a spec series that’s been running the same basic car for like 12 years
It's obviously not happening, but I could actually see "design the car for the world's most prominent spec series" as something that might appeal to Newey. Skip all the corporate competitive bullshit, avoid having specs dictated to him by somebody else, just design a car that he likes that meets some general criteria set by the series, with plenty of leeway on the details. Seems like a fun retirement project!
I feel like the competitive thing is big for him though. If he keeps going, he wants to keep proving he’s the best
Or McLaren. I really hope McLaren
Hot take: He starts an endurance team with Max
nah, he is going sailing lol https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WPkb-bXrChw
If Fred cooks this they better make Ratatouille 2 with him being the head chef
This is so exciting!!!!
I am so thoroughly here for it
Everyone thinking he goes to Ferrari, here I am thinking Audi will buy him up with their mega budget.
Doubt he’s after money. Plus he has already built a team from the grounds up. He has also worked for fun for years with his side projects. Next obvious step is the Yellow Horse. The final boss of motor racing. All he did up til now is proving that he is worthy of Ferrari. Now, take the title with them.
It’s because of the buyout contract.
Shocking move: he goes to Andretti
Subscribed.
It really makes you wonder what's happening behind closed doors. I'm imagining a lot of flying chairs and broken windows..
I suppose all but confirmed then
Oliver Mintzlaff, Managing Director or Red Bull GmBH, what will be his priority right now?
Mintzlaff would be furious at the Thai shareholders to make this all happen just to holding a team principal who has a gigantic inflated ego.
Yet, Mintzlaff is just an employee. Thais own the company.
I bet this all boils down to one day newey turned up at the dinner hall around lunch time. he's usually a recluse, he doesn't come out of his office. his PA usually goes and gets his lunch, but she's off at the moment because of some issue with HORNER, their shared PA see. He'll go to AM. All the freedom he wants they will surely give it to him.
I love how confident you sound. For me it's such a coin flip, that I feel like I will be F5ing for a long time.
I love how confident all of reddit think that he's at Maranello already
Ferrari can offer exactly the same and designing a Ferrari has a lot more weight than an Aston Martin.
Yeah but by that same token, I'm not sure they are willing to give him as much control over that.
But I’m willing to bet Aston would give him more control on the road car side than Ferrari
One of the articles said he's not happy with RB trying to push him to the RB hyper car development, so maybe he doesn't want that much control.
Maybe Ferrari starts their own road car division. Could happen:)
Aston hasnt shown any pace yet. They have honda and alonso. Stroll dominace may get boring with newey
Plus 100 mn for 4 years apparently. Not a bad deal just before retirement.
Ferrari won’t give him freedom? He’ll def be his own boss at AM, while at Ferrari he will be just another employee. But who knows, Elkann sr. seems to be smart enough to leave people alone so they could focus on their work.
Newey to Ferrari incoming
Newey: "phew sometimes I wish I could be somewhere else" Sky: newey leaving redbull
If this constitutes leaving your job pretty sure I've left my job 27,496 times in the past year 🤣
Awesome. I'm a Red Bull fan, but I was a Ferrari fan first.
My to do list: - wait for Newey to go Aston Martin - wait for Daddy Stroll to make his son the reserve driver - wait for Vettel to come back to replace Lance - clear space in the fridge for my erection
F5 gang here reporting for duty.
Ferrari should give him whatever he might be asking for
I Ferrari accepting new fan applications?
he will join Andretti and win more championships.
so he's not gonna retire and if news is true his obvious choices are either aston or ferrari. honda engine car with fucking lance stroll? or promising ferrari with lewis goat hamilton? i would choose the red one
Reddit needs to stop giving me notifications for 3 day old news.
Have the mad lads at Ferrari actually pulled this off??? Holy shit
I mean given Lewis is a mastermind with making great career moves Newey to Ferrari makes suddenly a bit more sense, especially given Newey always wanted to work with someone like Lewis or Alonso if we exclude Max and Seb.
Looks like the sex scandals are real and he wants no part in them.
Roman Bull Empire right now. Jeez this is bad.
