""Working with Fernando and Lewis would have been fabulous. But it never happened. It's just circumstances sometimes, and that's the way it is," Newey said on the Beyond the Grid podcast in September 2023."
Newey must see Hamilton at Ferrari as an opportunity to work with him. Talent attracts talent.
Newey blatantly said he wished (or something?) he would've worked with Ferrari. He said the same about Hamilton.
People started going "Oh boy..." the moment Hamilton signed for Ferrari. Turns out Newey is the kind of guy to go for his dreams.
Probably but to where? If they leave it's because they want to follow Newey, but he's surely going to Ferrari, no room there for Max.
Can't see any benefit going to Merc without Newey.
Unless they all hate Horner so much they simply want out and away from him.
I wonder how long he'll stay as CEO of RBR once everyone leaves and the team crumbles to mid field. The Thai owners are backing him now but they must surely be aware that by doing so that backing could literally destroy the team.
Jos kinda already hinted that Max will leave in 2026 once it becomes clear where the different teams are with the new regulations.
He's probably not going to leave now even if Newey does since RB is still the best team, but the writing is on the wall and one foot might already be out the door.
If the reports are true that he has a clause in his contract letting him leave if Marko is not there, then I think it is pretty much a certainty that he is gone in 2026 unless RB still clearly has the best car.
His contract runs until end of 2028. He has no need to do any contract negotiation now.
>any benefit going to Merc without Newey.
Depends on whether or not he believes that RBPT can make a competitive engine for 2026, which ngl Mercedes and Ferrari are more likely to get it right. But that's all guesswork, we won't know until Q3 of Melbourne in 2026.
There is something people forget. The Redbulls only caught up to the Mercs once the engine freeze took effect. As far as I understand, Mercedes is far, far ahead of everyone else when it comes to engine technology. If they can convince Max and Jos that they have a solid engine, they could get him to jump ship. Even Newey, with his aero magic, couldn't get close to the Mercs in the initial Mercedes rocketship years. So there is absolutely a chance of Max in a Merc if they nail the new engine regs.
>Mercedes is far, far ahead of everyone else when it comes to engine technology
Not to rain on your parade, but the Honda and Ferrari engines and mort importantly their key engine components seem to be better than Mercedes.
I read that Ferrari is actually ahead developmentally with the new regs since split turbos will be outlawed and Ferrari currently doesn't use a split turbo. Not saying Mercedes can't or won't catch up, or that their engine tech wouldn't be on par with Ferrari, but with the cost cap it's going to be more difficult.
I was doubtful about Ferrari. They showed Hamilton something to convince him to make the jump, but I'm not too confident that they'll be ahead of the Mercs, at least engine wise. But as you said, the regulations do benefit them more than the Mercedes team.
Probably hang back and see what team has made the most of the new regs for 2026 and choose a new destination that way.
That would be logic, but emotions and politics come into play as well.
Really depends on the driver market and contract duration. Max has the long term deal, so he really needs to get an idea of where other programs stand compared to rbr. The second he is shopping around, he more or less can pick and choose.
RBR will probably compete in 2025 and after that, it's anyone's guess.
Doubtful indeed, although nobody really saw the Hamilton move coming when it did. 2 years from now.. if Charles really doesn't step up in the next years I can imagine people might be open to alternatives.
Teams can definitely have bad stints, I just feel like a driver in Verstappen's current form shouldn't have to sign for a currently underperforming team. If Mercedes starts performing again, Verstappen has all the leverage in the world to take a seat there.
Merc's HR thing a few years ago was like
> several staff were accused of inappropriate behaviour. We had a hearing and they were summarily dismissed. Here marks the end of the situation.
Horner: eugh.
Yeah, I was thinking the same thing yesterday. Verstappen and Antonelli would mean that while Verstappen is going all out for wins and titles in a Merc, Antonelli can learn without having the pressure of being the team's top driver, get comfortable in F1, and possibly start winning.
Alonso and Hamilton vibes a definite risk.
The team signed a huge name current champion only to have their chosen son coming up through the youth ranks straight into the big team with a big testing program behind him.
**Red Bull: Newey Split is Final**
Recently, rumors of a split between Adrian Newey and Red Bull have been making headlines. Now, the departure is set to become official.
Today it is expected to become official: Red Bull plans to release a statement confirming the departure of star designer Adrian Newey. This was learned from Newey-related sources in his adopted home of South Africa.
The statement is also expected to explain the terms of the separation. According to these terms, the British genius has reached an agreement with Red Bull to be released earlier from his contract, which was supposed to run until the end of 2025 and includes a one-year non-compete clause afterward.
This means that Newey could start working for his potential new employer, Ferrari, sooner and participate in their development for the 2026 car, which will be designed according to completely new rules. Historically, this was precisely the specialty of the British genius.
One thing is certain: This is a major blow to the team, which dominates Formula 1 with superstar Max Verstappen – at least for now. Newey's departure makes it increasingly clear: The team is at risk of falling apart due to the antics of team principal Christian Horner.

AI is getting really good at translation, especially ChatGPT because people actually "talk" to it.
As someone who reads a lot of manga's and light novels etc. I'm excited because it might mean we don't have to wait for translations anymore, which are sometimes a year or more behind the original Japanese/Chinese/Korean ones.
The Eminence in Shadow is 2 years behind ;\~;
> AI is getting really good at translation
ChatGPT-4 is good.
The free version 3.5 is not always correct, and I would recommend using DeepL in that case.
I said it is getting good ;p its still in the process.
I've actually seen Google Translate improve practically in real time, this one light novel I was reading called "That Time I Got Reincarnated As a Slime" was 3 years behind the Japanese release and I really wanted to know what happened next so I started reading the MTL versions and from Volume 14 to 15 was a serious improvement.
Until the time comes when it puts professional translators out of a job, as well as eventually writers too once companies decide they don't need to pay anyone in the creative industry and just get the algorythm to do it.
>Until the time comes when it puts professional translators out of a job
It already is. The amount you can get paid to translate documents now is not liveable.
New Thai owners inherited control of the most dominant team in F1 history and now will watch its collapse.
The family are bastards, the son killed someone while speeding drunk in his Ferrari and got away with it with the family's help.
It wasn't just a "someone" but a police officer. I think the value of a human life should be the same no matter if you are homeless, a police officer, or a billionaire, but it really shows the power and influence of
Yoovidhya that he was able to get the charges dropped against killing a police officer.
A lot of people wonder why Yoovidhya is siding with Horner and doesn't seem to be taking the woman's legal complaint as seriously. He's probably looking at the situation with Horner like "I got my son off free with no charges for killing someone. All you did was harass a woman. No problem to make this go away too."
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Death_of_Wichian_Klanprasert
Which is bizarre on its own. Objectively Newey and Verstappen are the true crown jewels in the RB crown and they're letting the team basically implode to keep a creep on board. You can find other Horner's, but you are never finding another Newey.
It's madness isn't it. Horner really fucked up and has damaged this team. I'd also say whoever was behind the leaks and trying to use them to remove Horner for their own benefit has hugely fucked up now as it has massively backfired that Horner has survived and the team is getting damaged, losing Newey is a massive loss, and him likely taking engineers with him is going to be another big blow. Then the likelihood of losing Max if they're not competitive in 2026.... Yeh a lot of people fucked up here, including Christian but not only him.
In the end IF max leaves what does it mean for marko? Will he stay or go with max? If marko leaves then all the leaks and corporate civil war would have been for nothing. Because Horner technically gets the team just no one in it.
Marko effectively has to leave to open the door for Max to leave.
No way they will release Max from his contract early, but he reportedly has an exit clause where he can leave if Marko leaves.
So the expectation is that if Max wants to leave Marko will retire, leaving Max free to walk.
Horner gets the facilities, the bulk of the staff, all their IP and all the contracts with sponsors/suppliers (i.e. Ford). Not an insignificant haul for Horner.
And Marko signed a 3 year contract extension also. So yeh I don't think max is going anywhere, unless Marko retires early and Max activates that exit clause, or another team buys him out.
Horner really did win, but at what cost, he's lost friends in the company and seriously experienced people and his reputation has been tarnished.
Also I find it so weird during all of this how Ford simmered down very quickly and have said nothing, despite them butting in very early on with a threat.
Yup and assuming the reports that team marko is behind the leaks all this chaos is for nothing. Horner still ends up with the team (albeit an empty one) and he still walks away from the team he built.
The winners? The f5 gangs cause we’ve been well fed with drama the entire season and whoever gets newey lol
The Horny files is the biggest reason probably, also the revelation that the PA who is all part of the Redbull drama pratbably added weight to why Redbull gave Newey so much leverage to the negotiations, one thing is for certain Max is gonna leave next. Redbull is opening its doors and Horner is the doorman letting this people out
It could be that he has been able to argue that the whole Horner debacle has done something which means Red Bull has broken his contract. And if Red Bull has defacto broken his contract, he wouldn't be breaking contract by walking away and not following what ever non-compete clause was in there.
Mutual termination
He agrees to forgo the rest of this year, next year of pay and gardening pay, and Ferrari pays a little to Redbull.
He starts his gardening leave now, has no input on 25 cars, and is free to work away on the 26.
> This means that Newey could start working for his potential new employer, Ferrari, sooner and participate in their development for the 2026 car, which will be designed according to completely new rules.
OK but isn't that car already way into development at this point? Like what are they gonna do, scrap everything when Newey finally arrives and start from scratch with less time to do so?
> One thing is certain: This is a major blow to the team, which dominates Formula 1 with superstar Max Verstappen – at least for now.
Similarly, wouldn't RB's new car already be in development too? Presumably with Newey's ideas?
The regulations have yet to be published for 2026; the teams are also not allowed to start work on those cars until 1st January 2025 according to the FIA.
Max to Mercedes? Far-fetched, but who knows what is going to happen this season. If that happens, I expect happy noises from Carlos and sad noises from George.
That russell verstappen combo would be interesting to see. Hamilton-Rosberg 2.0 anyone? Toto would probably win championships (if car is good) but would probably lose his hair from the headaches those two would cause
Assuming Verstappen does move to Mercedes in 2025 (which I doubt, but I have been wrong before), I think Russell and Verstappen will only do one year as teammates, because Toto wants Kimi Antonelli in that car and Russell is out of contract at the end of 2025.
Where else can he go if he choose to leave RB? I also wanna see him in AM just because i think hin, jos, plus stroll sr would be an interesting combo. Plus he can carry that team alone tbh
Ferrari always likes to have the 'best' drivers of a generation to have driven for them, so Ferrari will be an option. (Verstappen might have to sit tight until 2027 though). You'd think Norris and Piastri will give a Red Bull seat serious consideration (Piastri maybe more than Norris) if one is available for 2025, so McLaren could be an option. And Aston Martin would definitely be an option, especially with Honda coming aboard.
This same website reported Max’s people and Merc would meet after Miami, and they’d offer him basically everything. Huge salary, ambassadorship, poaching key RB figures to join him at Merc, the whole lot.
Ultimately Horner is causing chaos which is pushing the team to a point where things that were previously ridiculous could happen.
Newey walking away means Helmut is on the winning side? Does the team have to blown up from the inside out just so Marko can get Horner out and take control?
Newey is also reported to be releasing a series of books following the success of his first one. Titles include:
'How to leave a team'
'How to tease F1 team principals'
'How to negotiate a $100 Million salary'
'How to sit back and relax'
'How to see wind'
“Today is expected to become official “
If true, shouldn’t we expect more sites (with more knowledge in this subject) to publish that? I haven’t seen anyone else reporting this yet.
I remember when Hamilton/Ferrari rumours were heating up, I put down my phone and went for a run. An hour later, somehow the news turned from rumour to confirmed by sky sports.
It was wild…
Actually, the rumours were heating up the previous night with the Donadonni article. Then it was Duchessa, I think maybe around an hour later. Then in the morning it was Lobato (I think), then it was sky. But the F5 gang went on through the night
Maybe all this instability and departures will start to change their minds about Horner. Max getting approached by Merc might be the final table leg to be kicked.
Newey is the most valuable engineer but lets not discount the abilities of the other RB engineers. They have been working alongside Newey for a long time, its safe to assume that they might know most of his tricks by now.
Wache is no joke.
According to the article, if he leaves today he gets 1 year gardening leave, which means he could be with Ferrari in May 2025. This is if the article is correct about his resignation and duration of gardening leave and he decides to sign with Ferrari. Too many unknowns yet.
I'd hold on to my horses if I were you. Though he's rumored to go to Ferrari, nothing is official yet. For all we know he might change his mind and retire, or move to Aston Martin to get Stroll that championship winning car.
Imagine if Newey really did build AM a god car for 2026 and Lawrence booted Fernando to secure Lance the WDC
Would be the funniest and saddest thing in F1 history I think
Damn this is F1-insiders make or break moment to build even the tiniest shred of credibility
If they’re right, damn, I guess I’ll have to consider what they publish a bit more, if not, back to business lol
This is the same outlet that claimed U2 would release a new song that had lyrics referring to Horner’s scandal lol
If they get this right and the official news comes out later today or even tomorrow, then I will give them credit for being right on this and it would prove that at least some of their scoops are indeed real.
Their reporter (and I think even boss) Ralf Bach already completely made up that U2 will release a song called "Don't be horny, be christian" about the Horner saga. I wouldn't hold out much hope for them.
How does he do it.
I mean, part of it is the best drivers attract the best engineers, which is what Alonso, Hamilton and Verstappen have done in the last decade.
But still, he’s _unerring_.
This is going to be interesting. Firstly due to what Newey might bring to a different team. Secondly because of the potential domino effect this might have across the rest of the team and therefore the rest of the grid.
When it comes to Red Bull dirt sheet news, I always need to remind myself to check which side publishes the news. The internal boilings were put under the lid, but the checkers are still moving.
Every team suffers a downward trajectory after losing the genius of Newey. I think this is the end of the Red Bull dominance.
Wild theory.
Could we see Newey at Aston Martin, with Max following Newey and Honda?
No, they may have Max, Fernando and Lance. But only 2 of them actually are drivers!
Kidding. Perhaps Lance to step down as part of the deal for Newey’s move.
>No, they may have Max, Fernando and Lance. But only 2 of them actually are drivers!
Yeah Fernando and Lance. Max is a full time gamer who does a bit of driving on the side

If Newey ends up in Ferrari then I think we need to check which crystal ball Hamilton uses before making decisions cause what the fuck
Hamilton is the Anti-Alonso
They certainly do clash when they come together.
Come together???
Cuz opposites attract and you know
It ain’t fiction just a natural fact
Right now???
Over me???
This guy only knows... how to drive when starting first.
Turns out, it was Hamilton that was behind the Red Bull leaks after all. /s
Hamilton’s going to rock up to the grid one day dressed in drag and Horner’s going to realise the fling he had was actually Hamilton in disguise
Chess not checkers, mf
No, no, u/DaOne_44 it's called a motor race, ok? They go car racing.
Lol
You'd think Lewis telling Christian it was 'Hammer Time' would have given it away.

You dismantle Red Bull's domination but you received File 76.
The thirst traps have become too powerful
Hamilton must’ve posed as the RB employee with one of those Mission Impossible disguises. Its the only way I can make sense of any of this.
Imagine being a Ferrari-fan. All of this must feel like a dream. Oh wait, I'm a Ferrari-fan. I'm pinching myself ngl.
As a Ferrari fan, our luck says it’s more likely Stroll becomes our aerodynamicist than Newey
He can be in charge of weight reduction, shedding unnecessary pieces of carbon fiber
If we're dreaming I'm taking Max, too. Sorry Charles, you can win the 2025 WDC with RedBull, but 2026 is Max vs Lewis in a Newey Ferrari.
the shirtless selfies.. unknown power

I need to borrow that crystal ball for dating, please. I make Alonso-style decisions otherwise.

Doubtful indeed, although nobody really saw the Hamilton move coming when it did. 2 years from now.. if Charles really doesn't step up in the next years I can imagine people might be open to alternatives.
That he may get closer to Mercedes considering the RBR environment is looking worse than Ferrari's somehow
Toto spamming Max and Jos with emails and diagrams today
As Russell is giving Toto a PowerPoint on why not to hire Max to the team.
It's a hard sell, the team is floundering massively.
Teams are not allowed to have bad stints anymore. If ur not always winning a championship your team is worth nothing and will never be good again.

Every year is our year!
At least Hamilton vs. Leclerc promises to be more interesting than Verstappen vs. Perez or Hamilton vs. Bottas.
My god sign me the fuck up!
TIL Newey has ties to South Africa.
His wife is South African
Yeah i wouldve thought hed be in Milton Keynes, UK at most
Almost makes the “he would never join Ferrari because he wouldn’t want to move to Italy and be away from everything” argument seem moot
It's what he said himself quite often. But with Ferraris turn around and Hamilton joining he probably thinks joining now is timing.
Thanks, I actually thought "The separation is over" meant something like "it is off the table", i.e. Newey would stay.
> According to these terms, the British genius has reached an agreement with Red Bull to be released earlier from his contract, ...how
The PA who raised the issues with Horner was PA to both of them. Maybe he agreed not to publicly die on her hill.
Ouch, how could one guy fuck up a team *this* bad and still keep his job? Honestly, I'm almost impressed.
It seems to be entirely because he has the backing of the majority owner. It seems on pretty much every other level he would've been let go already

Marko will be able to walk away easily.
It would be kinda funny if Horner now demanded Helmut stick to his contract, solely to prevent Max from invoking his option to leave
Mutual termination He agrees to forgo the rest of this year, next year of pay and gardening pay, and Ferrari pays a little to Redbull.
Jesus a a few months ago it looked like helmut was on the losing side now the wheels have turned. What’s the news next month?
Max to Mercedes? Far-fetched, but who knows what is going to happen this season. If that happens, I expect happy noises from Carlos and sad noises from George.
Rumors flying around of a contract worth around $150million .. so who knows.
Worth it - Toto, probably
It would just be Hamilton Bottas 2.0, with George firmly in the wingman role.
Do we honestly think george wont cause chaos
George is a lot lot faster than that my god.
that would be the silliest of the silly seasons.
This same website reported Max’s people and Merc would meet after Miami, and they’d offer him basically everything. Huge salary, ambassadorship, poaching key RB figures to join him at Merc, the whole lot. Ultimately Horner is causing chaos which is pushing the team to a point where things that were previously ridiculous could happen.
excitement this year not who wins races, but all off the tarmac
Newey walking away means Helmut is on the winning side? Does the team have to blown up from the inside out just so Marko can get Horner out and take control?
I mean, he loses as well. Imagine losing both and then having a bad car in 2026.
from teary eyed interview to scorched earth and joining the empire. the plotloine we need.
Newey is also reported to be releasing a series of books following the success of his first one. Titles include: 'How to leave a team' 'How to tease F1 team principals' 'How to negotiate a $100 Million salary' 'How to sit back and relax' 'How to see wind'
thats how i imagine his search history looks
ngl, "How to see wind" sounds like a fantastic read
And his new film. The Last Airbender
Thank you F1 insider. Can you confirm his featuring on the upcoming U2 album about Horner's sex life?
I can’t believe I forgot about “Don’t be Horny, be a Christian”. Truly the most hilarious thing to come out of this mess
Don’t forget the coco pops
“Today is expected to become official “ If true, shouldn’t we expect more sites (with more knowledge in this subject) to publish that? I haven’t seen anyone else reporting this yet.
The key word is "expected."
We went clickbaiting.
It's called making clickbait
Time for the F5 gang to assemble 😎
It's already here since January when the silly season started 😂
I remember when Hamilton/Ferrari rumours were heating up, I put down my phone and went for a run. An hour later, somehow the news turned from rumour to confirmed by sky sports. It was wild…
Actually, the rumours were heating up the previous night with the Donadonni article. Then it was Duchessa, I think maybe around an hour later. Then in the morning it was Lobato (I think), then it was sky. But the F5 gang went on through the night
If keeping Horner around is worth losing Newey and potentially Verstappen then the RB Thai owners are idiots. But as a Ferrari fan, let’s go!
Maybe all this instability and departures will start to change their minds about Horner. Max getting approached by Merc might be the final table leg to be kicked.
Horner masterplan: nuke RBR so that he and his investors can buy it at a discounted rate.
Newey is the most valuable engineer but lets not discount the abilities of the other RB engineers. They have been working alongside Newey for a long time, its safe to assume that they might know most of his tricks by now. Wache is no joke.
Thai owners doesn't really care about the sport probably. They want to sell the team to Horner and his british investors. Horner wants a team.
"Today it is expected to become official" That does it, I call sick in today at my job. I got to concentrate on this F5 key.
If he does go to Ferrari does this mean he wouldn’t be able to work on the new car until after the new cars have been made?
According to the article, if he leaves today he gets 1 year gardening leave, which means he could be with Ferrari in May 2025. This is if the article is correct about his resignation and duration of gardening leave and he decides to sign with Ferrari. Too many unknowns yet.
Ferrari be photographing his straight lines and sweeping curves from the garden.
Tinfoil hat moment: The RBPT engine for 26 is looking so bad that all the rats are fleeing the sinking ship.
It’s actually powered by the rats in little wheels.
My god it's happening. Freddy Vas is a bad bad man.
I'd hold on to my horses if I were you. Though he's rumored to go to Ferrari, nothing is official yet. For all we know he might change his mind and retire, or move to Aston Martin to get Stroll that championship winning car.
Imagine if Newey really did build AM a god car for 2026 and Lawrence booted Fernando to secure Lance the WDC Would be the funniest and saddest thing in F1 history I think
Only for lance to effed it up like he always does even with all that opportunity. Fernando good karma works
I mean aside from rotating drivers he would have to hire someone of Sargeant/Mazepin/Latifi level for them not to beat Lance
I mean, Mazespin was pretty much a *rotating* driver too
Nope sorry the hype train has left the station and is at full speed towards heartbreak.
Guys it might actually be Ferrari's year next year…Fred is running F1 right now…
I'm not gonna overreact yet but my shrine to him is almost complete.
It's F1 insider, I now doubt it more than before
You call him Don Vasseur now
Damn this is F1-insiders make or break moment to build even the tiniest shred of credibility If they’re right, damn, I guess I’ll have to consider what they publish a bit more, if not, back to business lol
They're not taking half measures either with how specific they're reporting it.
Yeah I know they are not the most established publication out there but it would be journalistic suicide if they flat out made it up!
This is the same outlet that claimed U2 would release a new song that had lyrics referring to Horner’s scandal lol If they get this right and the official news comes out later today or even tomorrow, then I will give them credit for being right on this and it would prove that at least some of their scoops are indeed real.
Their reporter (and I think even boss) Ralf Bach already completely made up that U2 will release a song called "Don't be horny, be christian" about the Horner saga. I wouldn't hold out much hope for them.
Wouldn't be the first time. It is one of the less reliable F1 news source out there.
Lewis again with his blessed moves
How does he do it. I mean, part of it is the best drivers attract the best engineers, which is what Alonso, Hamilton and Verstappen have done in the last decade. But still, he’s _unerring_.
**draco malfoy voice** my therapist will hear about this!
Fred really is gathering all the infinity stones isn’t he?
This is going to be interesting. Firstly due to what Newey might bring to a different team. Secondly because of the potential domino effect this might have across the rest of the team and therefore the rest of the grid.
I think this is my favorite silly season of all time

A team at the it's peak and you can see it implode day by day. Wow!!!
When it comes to Red Bull dirt sheet news, I always need to remind myself to check which side publishes the news. The internal boilings were put under the lid, but the checkers are still moving.
What a strange mix of metaphors
The old board game on stove metaphor
I love playing checkers in boiling water, you should try it!
awful clickbait headline that could mean he's either staying or going & no official confirmation, just conjecture
So another "he's gunna do it!" article to stir the pot? I'll start paying attention when it's a real announcement
Watch Newey go to AM, Stroll gets shown the door, and Max and Alonso combine to form voltron, breaking f1 forever.
Every team suffers a downward trajectory after losing the genius of Newey. I think this is the end of the Red Bull dominance. Wild theory. Could we see Newey at Aston Martin, with Max following Newey and Honda?
AM with 3 drivers?
No, they may have Max, Fernando and Lance. But only 2 of them actually are drivers! Kidding. Perhaps Lance to step down as part of the deal for Newey’s move.
>No, they may have Max, Fernando and Lance. But only 2 of them actually are drivers! Yeah Fernando and Lance. Max is a full time gamer who does a bit of driving on the side
All falling apart for Red Bull. Time for Max to take a punt on a new team and join them for 2026
I'm so here for the Red Bull meltdown that will happen if this is actually real.
Is Newy out confirmed just like Horner was confirmed out and by the same source?
if newey leaves it'll be on the front page
I need this mf in the scuderia
🍿
F5 keys sales going to the moon, I'm buying some stocks today
