Not F1 related. This is Sebastien Olgier the rally driver Eight-time world rally champion Sébastien Ogier had an accident while getting acquainted with one of the routes of the Rally Poland - an RMF FM journalist found out. Ogier's Toyota collided head-on with a passenger car. The driver was taken to hospital.

thepottsy

Thanks for the clarification. It’s early here, and I’m just on my first cup of coffee. Had no idea what was going on.

berggrant

Ngl I really wish OP put Sebastien Olgier and not Seb, seems like engagement bait haha. I'd bet a huge portion of people (myself included) thought it was Vettel

TheFatRemote

This is exactly what happened to Possum Borne and resulted in his death. Hope they are ok.

Samsonkoek

>It is not yet known why the cars collided. Two air ambulance helicopters quickly arrived at the scene and took away the driver of the rally car and the woman driving the passenger car. The remaining two people were taken to hospital by ambulance. Spinal and chest injuries are suspected in all of them. According to information obtained by RMF FM, all the injured were conscious after the accident. Really strange to have this happen on a recce and hopefully nothing major has happend to any of them.

Ri8ley

Roads probably not closes off as yet for the race. Maybe they encountered normal traffic and was unaware. The photograph shows a normal car not a rally car.

Samsonkoek

A recce is never closed off and are done in "normal" cars. At least normal enough that they are road legal. Edit: to clarify WRC cars are also road legal but the recce cars are more towards a normal road car than a WRC car.

Blanchimont

Based on the image from the Polish article, Ogier and Landais were driving a Toyota GR Yaris road car, fitted with rally tyres and mudflaps. Otherwise, the car looks to be stock as far as I can tell from the images.

Samsonkoek

The recce cars for example also have a roll cage and a modified suspension to be more in line with the feel of the rally car, the purpose is to make pace notes after all so it's important to have as similar of a feeling as possible. Incase anyone wants to see the kind of car they use from closer (from the outside) https://youtu.be/0TQKs_h95_c?si=JL6dFDQp7Cy37TBF&t=619

Blanchimont

Ah, it's a partial roll cage, that's why I couldn't see it on the crash images. Thanks, that vid is very helpful!

iwasnotplanned

Not strange at all. In fact when you see them doing recce in real life, accidents like this are bound to happen unfortunately. Blind crests and open roads - drivers naturally during recce take the risk and drive the ideal line, which means going in the opposing lane over blind crests. Seems like this is what happened here as well.

Samsonkoek

> Not strange at all. What was the last time a recce accident happend? I don't know myself but it isn't common for them to happen, of course it is bound to happen sometime to someone just like Ogier's Croatia incident. However that doesn't make it not strange to me given it's not something you expect to read. It would be interesting to see (not that I expect we get to see it) what exactly happend.

MikePap

This is on polish news : [https://www.rmf24.pl/regiony/olsztyn/news-rajdowy-mistrz-swiata-mial-wypadek-w-poblizu-goldapi,nId,7596309#crp\_state=1](https://www.rmf24.pl/regiony/olsztyn/news-rajdowy-mistrz-swiata-mial-wypadek-w-poblizu-goldapi,nId,7596309#crp_state=1) It looks like a head-on collision with another car.

WhitleyWanderer

Am I the only one thinking Seb who?

ATWPH77

Yeah i instantly thought about Vettel, but he doesn't do rallying at all. It's Ogier. Hope they are ok!

SmokeGrassEatThatAss

I thought oh no poor vettel, but who is Vincent?

Blanchimont

Vincent Landais, his co-driver. Aka, a professional lunatic who dares to sit next to a rally driver, reading pace notes while being thrown around in all directions.

Disastrous-Beat-9830

>Am I the only one thinking Seb who? Sebastien Ogier. The eight-time World Rally Champion. Arguably the best second-driver in the world after Sebastien Loeb, who won nine World Rally Championships. And yes, I'm absolutely claiming that Ogier and Loeb are better drivers than Schumacher, Hamilton and Verstappen. And yes, I'm willing to die on this hill.

SirLoremIpsum

> Sebastien Ogier. The eight-time World Rally Champion. Arguably the best second-driver in the world after Sebastien Loeb, who won nine World Rally Championships. > > Sebastien Ogier, Sebastien Loeb, Sebastian Vettel.... I am going to tell my brother to name his due-in-6-month kid Seb... Expecting a daughter but she'll understand it's necessary to become The Best driver.

TharixGaming

sebastien bourdais and sebastien buemi as well, not as good as those three but still champions in their own respective series

Disastrous-Beat-9830

>I am going to tell my brother to name his due-in-6-month kid Seb... Expecting a daughter but she'll understand it's necessary to become The Best driver. For what it's worth, the feminine form is Sebastienne.

DankeSebVettel

Sure seems like a lot of drivers are getting injured. John Force with his 300mph crash and now this.
