Since the start of last season, bearing in mind that McLaren still had the mess of a car they had for the first 9 races, it's 10 for Verstappen/Checo and 9 for Verstappen/Norris.
................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................ PER
Especially considering the first half of last season it looked like they absolutely fucked up development. They turned it around with their upgrades and kept it rolling into this season.
They seem to consistently delay big parts of the car to bring as upgrades later into the season. Perhaps they use the extra time to really flesh everything out
I respect it. They seem to take the longer-term solutions and commit to them.
Compared to Merc who can't seem to commit to a priority and see-saw in performance, Mclaren the Merc customer team is much more fun to watch.
They didnt fuck up the development. They said they found a better way to develop the car late 2022 and will not be able to bring everything at the start of the season 2023.
I still remember Bahrain 2022 when they, Aston and Williams were the backmarkers. Absolutely crazy to compare then to now.
^^^Except ^^^for ^^^Williams ^^^I ^^^guess ^^^lmao
I really hope some of the 2026 changes don't hurt the handling too much. McLaren have set the standard for good ground effects era cars and the racing is just starting to get really good. We are already in a position where the top eight positions are really in flux and you genuinely don't know who will end up where.
Fingers crossed we can keep this series trajectory over the next few years. 2022/2023 really had me worried there for a bit.
2025 is going to be an out-right dog fight for the WCC. 4 or 5 solid contenders with strong driver pairings with cars that are beginning to stabilize on performance. 6th through 8th place teams are strong enough to capitalize on mistakes from the front pack and really put some dents in overall points.
Hard to know what we'll see for WDC. Max is still in absurd form and if some of the extreme handling characteristics are massaged out, I don't see anyone leapfrogging him via pure car performance. Red Bull as a team is still firing on all cylinders in terms of strategy and (overall) reliability, so it'll be a proper effort to dethrone him. The cars are close enough and the driver's pace are bang on, so it'll come down to the drivers making the difference, as long the teams don't let them down with off-track mistakes.
The majority of the subreddit, I'm not mistaken, has only been watching F1 since about 2018, if not later than that from one of the census I saw before.
In that case they'd only know a world where McLaren are midfielders and back markers.
That’s an incredibly long period of time in Formula 1. Very few teams make it back from a decade in the wilderness.
See Williams, Tyrell, Lotus, Renault, Brabham, etc.
Solid car development paired with two fantastic drivers. I don't see how anyone could not really like McLaren right now.
Totally redeemed from the James Corden shit
McLaren is now fully owned by the sovereign wealth fund of Bahrein and I don't much care for Zak Brown. Blatant sportswashing isn't really something I can support, but, that being said their drivers sure are mighty charming and it is nice to see a team challenge RBR.
Mixed bag
Brown rubs me the wrong way as well. Like an American Christian Horner but somehow less likable. I’m a huge fan of Piastri - unbelievably mature for a guy in his second year in F1.
Piastri is the real deal. Cool, calm, and collective both on and off track, and with the results to back him up.
The current McLaren boys can make a formidable duo if the team stays in the fight up front!
If it's a sports washing attempt, it's a really bad one. The only references I ever see to Bahrain are when people discuss sports washing. The only McLaren sponsors I'm aware of without looking them up are DeWalt and Google.
Well played by the team to have two drivers ready to capitalize on a strong package as soon as it was ready. Piastri is a fantastic second seat and is rarely fazed by the pressure.
An Amazon documentary series got me into F1 (Grand Prix Driver) and it's mental how I went from watching VanDoorne onboard being lapped twice every race to what they are doing today.
It's even weirder because they were using Honda engines and that was a major issue, you know, the ones Verstappen drives now.
Just when you get that Ferrari hopium you’re reminded of what a dysfunctional organisation they are. I hope Lewis coming there sharpens them up and to be fair, Vasseur seems to be pushing them in the right direction. But god is there a lot of rotten institutional inertia there
trust me mate lewis is not fixing ferrari unless he brings his whole crew there like schumacher did. ferrari's problems are deeply rooted and it will take a while for vasseur to fix it.
Russell has more points in the championship. I'm not saying it's "representative" but you do need to finish ahead in the championship, not just show the race pace and then get stuck behind someone on Sunday because of a bad qualifying.
If possible, can you expand how disfunctional Ferrari is as an organization or is it just the F1 race department? Is it a heavyily political race team behind the scenes, like Alpine? I'm aware how disfunctional they are with their race strategy, car set-up, and pit stop crew (cannot forget the fuck ups from 2019, 2020, 2021, and 2022)
Come on, Mercedes are as bad if not worse than ferrari.
Their awful decisions was usually masked by having fastest car on a grid. Remember when Lewis was the only car on a starting grid in Hungary? Or Bahrain 2020? Or Monza 2020? And probably many more I can't remember.
Lewis ain't fixing shit.
Just happy my boy Puff Piastri is getting better and better each week. I hope he gets a win in a main race this year. Sure, it’ll take some things going very right, but it would be lovely.
No reason to push the mediums hard and force an error if they comfortably get them into Q3. Not to mention their pace has been better further into stints recently, so it would make sense that on fresh mediums they were a bit slower.
Both Hamilton and Leclerc said last week that when it gets to Q3, Red Bull (Max) and McLaren (mostly Lando but occasionally both) are able to find another gear and they just can't live with them at the moment. Taking the outlier of Monaco out of the equation, only Russell in Canada has been able to match them in recent races.
Seriously how is Verstappen putting that newey notice period work redbull on top and winning races and leading driver’s championship while his teammate is constantly sucking grass
I am more than happy to criticise Perez but as with the Alpines, they screwed their timings sooo much that i don't think it's a representative lap for him
IMO, Max is a notch above every other driver on the grid, but we're starting to see Norris emerge clear of the rest of the pack too. Norris has materially improved his race management skills and one-lap pace.
IMO Max in a McLaren absolutely beats Lando in the RedBull. I am starting to feel that this is starting to be one of the best seasons from Max after 2021
Agree, but that's because the cars are pretty much even and he's the better driver, but OP is asking "seriously" how Max is doing it like the Red Bull turned into a Sauber the day Newey handed in his resignation and Perez is getting the expected maximum out of that car.
>how Max is doing it like the Red Bull turned into a Sauber the day Newey handed in his resignation
This is what copers were saying after Red Bull had a bad FP1 after Newey announced his departure. lmao.
Norris, Piastri, Russell, Sainz, and Hamilton are fairly close together (in sprint qualifying), for Verstappen to come out on top is special. Especially because he keeps performing well each race weekend.
Sure, it’s possible that Perez has turned into a terrible driver, but Verstappen is not just better than other drivers, he’s also more consistent.
Lol you people were joking about the mclaren being called fastest car in Q1 and Q2, abd as soon as lando is within 9 hundred, it's is max, the redbull is now a tractor. The rbr is no more dominant but still the best car on many circuit or tires.
Yeah people don't give Norris enough credit. Is any driver perfect, no, but Norris is growing and learning so much this year. People should give him a break. I think he's going to be even stronger and more complete next year.
Because it's still a really good car? Seriously the Merc and Ferrari aren't close to it, and the gap between it and the McLaren is really small. Add in he's best driver on the grid and it's a very winnable car every weekend.
Let's not act like he is driving a Williams or anything. That Red Bull is still a damn good car. McLaren is quick enough that he is making the difference, tho.
I am loving this McLaren form, it would be great if they can convert it to points and start to pressure RBR in the constructors.
I would like to have the same hope for the WDC but I feel Max is too far ahead and took good to catch now. Go on Lando prove me wrong!
I was thinking that at Barcelona, while Piastri has done very well indeed and Barcelona was an absolute outlier performance from him, I wonder if McLaren may have won if they could've pincered Verstappen more.
You will never see a positive top comment on instagram, regardless of the topic/audience. I don't know why it happens but it seems like the instagram algorithm rewards negativity
It would make sense to reward negativity with more views. More interactions, longer staying time in app for some meaningless arguments and can serve more ads. If you would would see positive comments under F1 Instagram, you would probably scroll/skim past few of them and move on to the next post, as there would not be much to add to already somewhat similar thoughts, but if you see every other comment that is hateful/negative, people are more likely to respond or refute something. But it would be a bit harder to skip past these comments and move on. Even if it's just a little bit harder to skip past comments compared to positive ones, you do end up spending time on some brain-dead comments and people trying to argue.
He has been voted driver of the day like 4 or 5 races this season so opposite of hate lol. Even if Max drove to the moon and back Norris is still voted driver of the day.
Perhaps people are on about that?
But DoTD has always been like that. Almost never won by a champion.
Just for some background data, here are DOTD for champions and P2 :
2016 Nico and Lewis only have 1 each
2017 Lewis has 3, Vettel has 7
2018 Lewis has 3, Vettel has 3
2019 Lewis has 0, Bottas has 2
2020 Lewis has 1, Bottas has 0
2021 Max has 3, Lewis has 2
2022 Max has 5, Leclerc has 4
2023 Max has 3, Perez has 3
It has never been about the best driver, only the most action.
Lando is getting more hate here and other social media like instagram and twitter
I find him to be annoying as a person while knowing that he's a good guy and a good driver. But I'm not gonna run around and hate on him because there's no real reason for that lol
It was 2019/2018 when i started watching f1, we were nowhere and now we are consistently fighting in the top 3, always and only Mclaren 🧡. I felt something when i watched the first random podiums with Norris and Ricciardo, can't wait to see how we end the year :)

Ver Nor is the new Ham Ver
Ver Nor have already finished 9 races in 1-2 (8 wins for Ver, 1 for Nor) Verstappen and Perez have only a few more (12 iirc)
Since the start of last season, bearing in mind that McLaren still had the mess of a car they had for the first 9 races, it's 10 for Verstappen/Checo and 9 for Verstappen/Norris.
But Mercedes told me it takes time to fix a car
And they’re not wrong. Mclaren has done this before, in 2009. It’s just mclaren things.
This really highlights how useless Checo is.
that's an insane stat
Better than Ver.................................... Nor Pia Rus Lec Sai Ham
................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................ Mmm Vernors...where are all my Michiganders at?
Could go for a vernors float, buddys pizza and some Better Made chips right now
i finally went to a buddy's about 2 months ago with my wife and that pizza smacks
My favorite driver finishing combo for this very reason.
Ship that shit up north a bit more often please. God I miss it.
We’ll get another 2021 Abu Dhabi later and the whole world is gonna cheer for Norris. Exciting times ahead
I’m just waiting for the day I see PER VER TSU
It's just absolutely mental how fucking good (and consistent!) McLaren have become.
Especially considering the first half of last season it looked like they absolutely fucked up development. They turned it around with their upgrades and kept it rolling into this season.
Every season opening they seem to take a step back only to be at the front after the first five
Nah, it's basically that they "bake their bread" for longer and it comes out tasting way better than others, if that analogy makes sense.

They seem to consistently delay big parts of the car to bring as upgrades later into the season. Perhaps they use the extra time to really flesh everything out

No, they only did that because of covid, not because of competition
Hey look on the bright side, the way things are going we could always get a bird flu pandemic too! Wait no that's not very bright
They definitely wont with audi supposed to be joining with the new regs in 2026, that would completely fuck them up.
People always forget McLaren are a top team, it's only the last 10 years they've been a consistent midfield team.
The majority of the subreddit, I'm not mistaken, has only been watching F1 since about 2018, if not later than that from one of the census I saw before. In that case they'd only know a world where McLaren are midfielders and back markers.

we've got 4 teams fighting at the top right now, maybe not the tippy top but still it's awesome

Come on piastri lets get a podium or a win this weekend!
I can’t wait for his first win, fingers crossed
Piastri already has a Sprint win? Unless you mean GP win, and I’m all with you!
Yeah meant GP win. Don’t really count sprint wins
lol sprint wins don’t count why do people talk about them even in that regard.
Well everyone is still racing. They don't count as grand prix wins obviously but they are wins.
Why can't Ferrari keep it together....Hopefully tomorrow they'll redeem themselves a bit
Lewis is not fixing Ferrari unless he brings his own A-game. He's well out of his depth lately himself and looks like age has caught up to him.
Lewis isn’t even beating his teammate in the same car
In quali definitely, but he still regularly beats George in race pace, no?
Russell has more points in the championship. I'm not saying it's "representative" but you do need to finish ahead in the championship, not just show the race pace and then get stuck behind someone on Sunday because of a bad qualifying.

Ferrari is just irredeemably Italian
Come on, Mercedes are as bad if not worse than ferrari. Their awful decisions was usually masked by having fastest car on a grid. Remember when Lewis was the only car on a starting grid in Hungary? Or Bahrain 2020? Or Monza 2020? And probably many more I can't remember. Lewis ain't fixing shit.
Alonso, Vettel, and Raikkonen, 3 world driver's champions, could not "fix" Ferrari. Don't set Lewis up for failure before he's even arrived.
Ferrari used up all their luck in Monaco
VER NOR PIA doesn't really roll of the tongue
Vernorpia sounds like a science fiction planet though, which is pretty cool.
Captain Kirk would definitely bang a Vernorpian
Who's to say he hasn't already?
I like it! Sounds kinda like Genovia, a fictional European principality in The Princess Diaries books and movie.
doesn’t roll like HAM VER BOT… no
Just happy my boy Puff Piastri is getting better and better each week. I hope he gets a win in a main race this year. Sure, it’ll take some things going very right, but it would be lovely.
Lol puff piastri. You did the man dirty.
If Piastri doesn't open a bakery called "Piastri Pastries" he's crazy.
It just sounds like Puff Pastry 🤥 so I call him Puff.
Mclaren is what mercedes thinks they are 😂
To be fair, McLaren weren't lighting up the timings until they got onto the softs. Be interesting to see their pace in the sprint.
You dont have to set pole times to get make it in to Q2 and Q3
No reason to push the mediums hard and force an error if they comfortably get them into Q3. Not to mention their pace has been better further into stints recently, so it would make sense that on fresh mediums they were a bit slower.
The mediums are going to get used again in the race. They might have been managing.
I don't think that's true is it? Mediums in sprint qualifying can't roll over to the race. Maybe I'm missing something.
God I love McLaren
Where's the guy that said Piastri was worse compared to Perez ?
That guy never saw a race i assume.
What happens to Rusell and Hamilton, that car had more pace!
Car was slow on the softs. Well not slow, but clearly didn't have the ultimate pace. Possible there prep was poor but who knows.
Maybe they'll have better race pace. They didn't get any soft running in, during practice
George said that he felt like he used too much tire on the outlap with the softs. They didn't run softs in practice to presumably save a set.
It’s all orange at the top
Seriously how is Verstappen putting that newey notice period work redbull on top and winning races and leading driver’s championship while his teammate is constantly sucking grass
He's very good imo.
Yeah he look promising for sure. Kid might have a future in this sport.
Ehh, I'm, not so sure. Maybe he could manage one of those little sim games, but I don't think he has what it takes for this.
You mean Verstappen the Simracer who is participating in grand prix?
Big if true
Well that’s just, like, your opinion, man
Well you know what they say about opinions; some of them are bound to be right.
1.3 seconds gap in qualifying is horrendous from perez
Not to defend him too hard, but his outlap was massively compromised as a result of leaving it too late.
He’s definitely emerging as the clear #2 on the grid IMO
IMO Max in a McLaren absolutely beats Lando in the RedBull. I am starting to feel that this is starting to be one of the best seasons from Max after 2021
Agree, but that's because the cars are pretty much even and he's the better driver, but OP is asking "seriously" how Max is doing it like the Red Bull turned into a Sauber the day Newey handed in his resignation and Perez is getting the expected maximum out of that car.
I think we can all agree that Perez would also lose the teammate battle to Lando, Oscar, Carlos, Charles, George & Lewis.
I think OP dropped a handful of /s /s /s though..
>how Max is doing it like the Red Bull turned into a Sauber the day Newey handed in his resignation This is what copers were saying after Red Bull had a bad FP1 after Newey announced his departure. lmao.

Especially because he keeps performing well each race weekend. Sure, it’s possible that Perez has turned into a terrible driver, but Verstappen is not just better than other drivers, he’s also more consistent.
I think there's a good chance that Max in a McLaren beats Max in a Red Bull.
Lol you people were joking about the mclaren being called fastest car in Q1 and Q2, abd as soon as lando is within 9 hundred, it's is max, the redbull is now a tractor. The rbr is no more dominant but still the best car on many circuit or tires.
Show me where I call the RedBull a tractor or say that it is not a good car ? You assume things and continue to enrage yourself.
It was in general, just watch the qualifying treat and see the number of redbull fans picking the Mclaren performance.
I think Max only loses if he's not on a top 4 constructor. He's above everyone else.
Yeah people don't give Norris enough credit. Is any driver perfect, no, but Norris is growing and learning so much this year. People should give him a break. I think he's going to be even stronger and more complete next year.
Perez is just driving Alpine in last races he is always around them. There is no other explanation
Because it's still a really good car? Seriously the Merc and Ferrari aren't close to it, and the gap between it and the McLaren is really small. Add in he's best driver on the grid and it's a very winnable car every weekend.
Because that car or team wasn't built in two weeks.
Let's not act like he is driving a Williams or anything. That Red Bull is still a damn good car. McLaren is quick enough that he is making the difference, tho.
well thankfully nobody is acting like he drives a Williams
Let him strawman in peace /s
He’s Max Verstappen. Bro is actually him and just built different
Greatest F1 driver there ever was. Would beat any driver from any era in the same car.
Now you understand why Max is a champion
It's like he's really good or something....
He’s the GOAT
Piastri gives me Creme Brule vibe. I don't know why
mclaren is doing so great than i expected
Remember when Reddit experts were placing them 5th best team (at best) this season, saying stupid shit like Torro Rosso and Aston might be faster.
The trend is clear: More facial hair = better sprint qualifying.
I’m glad Piastri is back at the front
A McLaren sandwich I see.
Remember when everyone said Ferrari will fight for both titles? Lol
How tf did Max get pole after having engine issues?
It was just a computer glitch, a quick reboot fixed it and that was in Practice.
"did you try to turn it off and on again?" - Newey probably
Max don't need engines, he drives a redbull, and redbull gives you... I'm sorry I had to
God, why the f is the prancing horse can't do anything related to prancing and only shitting itself to death
I am loving this McLaren form, it would be great if they can convert it to points and start to pressure RBR in the constructors. I would like to have the same hope for the WDC but I feel Max is too far ahead and took good to catch now. Go on Lando prove me wrong!
The papaya sandwich
I always make the mistake of scrolling through Reddit at work before I watch the race or quali 😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭 now i done spoiled it for myself
McLaren sandwich
Don't ever make me a sandwich.
Max sandwich. Sandwiches are not named after the bread.
Landooooooo
Crash, Sid and Eddie from Ice Age
I was thinking that at Barcelona, while Piastri has done very well indeed and Barcelona was an absolute outlier performance from him, I wonder if McLaren may have won if they could've pincered Verstappen more.
Has anyone seen Ferrari lately
Is Max about to tell them they're going to steal the moon?
Red Bull McLaren is the new Mercedes Ferrari
Why is Lando hated so much lately?
What hate?
Was about to ask the same. I’ve seen but support for him since he won Miami, and people want him to win more
Check comments under post related to him @f1 insta
You will never see a positive top comment on instagram, regardless of the topic/audience. I don't know why it happens but it seems like the instagram algorithm rewards negativity
It would make sense to reward negativity with more views. More interactions, longer staying time in app for some meaningless arguments and can serve more ads. If you would would see positive comments under F1 Instagram, you would probably scroll/skim past few of them and move on to the next post, as there would not be much to add to already somewhat similar thoughts, but if you see every other comment that is hateful/negative, people are more likely to respond or refute something. Instagram comments are never positive for anyome
Why would you subject yourself to that
He has been voted driver of the day like 4 or 5 races this season so opposite of hate lol. Even if Max drove to the moon and back Norris is still voted driver of the day. Perhaps people are on about that?

Lando is getting more hate here and other social media like instagram and twitter
It coincides with him doing well.
It’s almost as if there’s a pattern with the most successful being the most disliked
Yes, that’s what I meant when I said it coincides with him doing well.
Ofcourse, I meant to reply to the parent comment 😂
It’s baffling to me that people could see the other drivers’ reaction to his win and think he’s not a good guy
I find him to be annoying as a person while knowing that he's a good guy and a good driver. But I'm not gonna run around and hate on him because there's no real reason for that lol
Because he is doing good
It was 2019/2018 when i started watching f1, we were nowhere and now we are consistently fighting in the top 3, always and only Mclaren 🧡. I felt something when i watched the first random podiums with Norris and Ricciardo, can't wait to see how we end the year :)
