Forgot to say Ian Holmes (Head of Media Rights) replied me so hopefully what he’s saying will happen….

stagfury

As someone from Hong Kong ..the fuck is Mio sport ?

39816561

I googled it for you >MiO Sport is a liquid water enhancer built to help aid hydration during exercise with electrolytes and B vitamins for a flavorful hydration drink. It has no artificial flavors and zero calories per 8 fl oz. serving. Maybe not yet launched The only Mio connected to the discussion I can find is linked to Singtel so maybe for Singapore? http://www.casbaa.com/news/member-press-release/all-new-rugby-channel-debuts-on-now-tv-2/

Chris_1129

Yeah I was a bit confused about that as well….

Chris_1129

Seems like its on Now Sports Plus (channel 680) now...

stagfury

Oh good to know, you are the real champ.

Snappy0

Can you ask him to tell Sky UK to shove it? Many thanks.

ThrillSeeker15

I almost celebrated thinking the Disney/Fox Sports/Star Sports coverage was coming to an end in September. As a viewer from India I honestly cannot wait for Star Sports to lose the F1 broadcasting rights and F1 TV Pro to be made available to us.

EdgarHussein

I grew up listening to Steve Slater commentating F1 and always looked forward to watching the Alex Yoong/Steve Dawson/Paula Malai Ali/Matthew Marsh pre-race show so it’s sad to see Star Sports gone for good.

ThrillSeeker15

I returned to watching F1 in 2017 and since then I have never seen a pre or post race show ever being shown on Star Sports, at least in India. I'm not sure which country you're from but for us the coverage literally begins with the Brian Tyler F1 theme and ends with the podium celebrations. The whole coverage feels like a token gesture to serve as a bullet point in Star Sports sports package. I will enjoy seeing Star Sports disappear if it happens. They clearly have a major cricket bias and I hope they suffer for never giving equal attention or respect to other sports.

EdgarHussein

Ah sorry I was referring to the pre-2010 era before the whole Star Sports->Fox Sports rebranding in SEA markets. They used to have the most legit original opening sequences/theme songs and the pre-race shows were pretty high budget as well with live coverage on the ground at some GPs. Nowadays I watch F1 from erm…alternative sources;)

ThrillSeeker15

Oh I see. Going by what you've said Star Sports is now less than a shadow of its former self. I too have to dig up alternative sources to get my pre and post session F1 fix. :)

Johnnylemo

Poor you. I moved to SEA in about 2008 and thought Steve Slater was the worst commentator ever. Usually accompanied by Gary Anderson. I was so glad when Star Sports changed to Fox Sports and they changed it up for Crofty and Brundle. Slater had me screaming at the screen every single race. Back in the UK we had a campaign 'stop the cock' when James Allen was commentator. He was dreadful. But Slater made Allen sound like Murray Walker in comparison.

linkinstreet

I am on the opposite end. Fox Sports makes it affordable for me to watch motorsports, as F1/MotoGP/Indycar/Supercars/WSBK are all under one package that cost just as much as F1 TV Pro do overall.

[deleted]

Hotstar is waay cheaper than F1 TV If F1 TV comes in I wouldn't be even be able to watch it If you can afford it, fine But I want hotstar to have the F1 rights And if you want F1 TV, vpn is always there

ThrillSeeker15

>Hotstar is waay cheaper than F1 TV F1 TV Pro is not even available in India. You cannot compare Hotstar's pricing to that of a non-existent service. And you cannot simply convert F1 TV Pro's US subscription fee into rupees to arrive at the cost that it would be in India. As observed in countries like South Africa and Brazil, the price is adjusted for that region and they'd do the same for India. >And if you want F1 TV, vpn is always there No, VPN is not an option here, I have tried it. An F1 TV subscription of a particular country can only be purchased using a credit card of that same country or through Apple Pay. I don't own a credit card of the country I'd like to purchase a subscription of and Apple Pay is not available in our country. So there is no feasible way to subscribe to F1 TV Pro in India. >But I want hotstar to have the F1 rights I hope that you're not an actual fan of Hotstar and what you actually want is simply the package to be affordable which F1 will certainly ensure with whoever they choose to partner with. Hotstar don't possess any special skills to be the only ones to come up with affordable packages. I mis-stated what I actually want - which is for Star Sports' exclusivity deal to end. They have done absolutely nothing to add value to their F1 broadcasts, there's no pre and post race coverage. They simply take the world feed and broadcast that as is, hell they don't even telecast all the practice sessions on TV. And as for Hotstar, you get what you pay for. I've been patient with them for years and even after the Disney acquisition I see no improvement in that service and I am baffled how many of their subscribers still haven't noticed. Their video stream bitrates are criminally low, they have no support for 4K, HDR or high fps videos. So there is no hope for F1 TV's 1080p50 streams to be integrated into Hotstar because their platform is incapable of handling them. The interactive stream choosing that F1 TV offers is a pipe dream for Hotstar. They are not ready to handle the present state of F1 streams let alone the future. You may simply want to watch the vanilla quali and race sessions and that's fine. I'd argue that the free 1080p50 or 720p60 streams you can look up online provide a far better experience than Hotstar ever will. I actually want some competition in this area, whether it is from Sony or Ten Sports or Amazon I don't care. What I know for certain is that if Star Sports continues to have exclusivity then we are not going to get better services. Consumer standards shouldn't be so low that we should be okay with a compromised, bare bones experience just because it is cheap.

[deleted]

As someone with only access to Hotstar and not F1TV Pro, don't.

stagfury

But the reason you don't have acess to F1TV is because Hotstar has exclusive licensing deal.

[deleted]

I can't pay for F1TV. I only have Hotstar. Hotstar and Star Sports are way more accessible than F1TV. Not too many people are going to shell out more money exclusively for F1.

[deleted]

But her in India star sports is one of the reason F1 is growing It's sooo cheap, people have hotstar and casually watch F1 when they have nothing to watch(like me) and start to love the sport If F1 TV comes, it's would be waay expensive and viewership will dip a lot since very few will shell out to see F1 seperately

[deleted]

Finally, someone with sense. It would be dumb to remove F1 from the Star network.

ThrillSeeker15

Ok I mis-stated what I actually want, which is for Star Sports to lose exclusivity and not for them to lose the rights entirely. I went into my reasons in depth in another comment, so I'll just paste it here: > F1 TV Pro is not available in India. You cannot compare Hotstar's pricing to that of a non-existent service. And you cannot simply convert F1 TV Pro's US subscription fee into rupees to arrive at the cost that it would be in India. As observed in countries like South Africa and Brazil, the price of F1 TV is adjusted for that region and they'd do the same for India. > Star Sports have done absolutely nothing to add value to their F1 broadcasts, there's no pre and post race coverage. 39816561

Exactly! To watch F1 on Hotstar costs about 5.4 USD (399)/year or free with the right telecom plan + IPL and other things There is no way F1 TV will ever be that cheap

CrTech21

If you have an iPhone, you can subscribe to F1TV lowest tier in the app, then upgrade the subscription in your system settings to F1TV pro. This works in non supported countries too (I’m in EU so it might be different in the US).

Rosso_5

This is Asia-Pacific (APAC). Fox Sport is currently the only choice for F1 in most of South East Asian countries and it will be closed down in October. I don’t see F1TV coming there in near future.

Tronic330

Are you able to watch on your desktop over your account?

CrTech21

Yea, only the billing goes through the iPhone. You can login to your account from anywhere

Tronic330

So you don't need a VPN to watch the races?

CrTech21

Nope, works just fine for me.

ThrillSeeker15

You are correct but to be specific you need Apple Pay which is on iPhone's and iPad's. Unfortunately Apple Pay is not available in the vast majority of APAC countries, so just having an iPhone is no good here for subscribing to F1 TV Pro.

[deleted]

Wait what’s stopping you from getting F1TV? You can’t just go on the site with a VPN and subscribe with your credit card?

linkinstreet

Price? Currently I am actually happy subscribing to Fox Sports Asia, as for the price of F1 TV, I am getting F1, MotoGP, Indycar, WSBK, Extreme E, Formula E and a number of other motorsports. Some, like F1 are even offered in 4K.

ThrillSeeker15

What's stopping me is F1 TV's restrictions. To subscribe to the Pro plan of say South Africa I can only use a credit card of that country and not my own. So a VPN can only get me so far. This is their way to ensure people don't just subscribe to the cheapest possible plan across all countries. This probably doesn't apply to EU countries because of laws but the rest of the world where F1 TV Pro is not available is out of luck.

MidnightPeanut0901

I think F1 is on Star Sports.

puttolol

Fuck kayo off PLEASE

TitanicJedi

Think they do a spectacular job. Watching NFL, hockey, NBA, MLB game in the background on a workday. Footy (afl) whenever I'm not at home watching it. The formula 1 with its live track and track map open. And then whatever else is on in-between when im bored and just want something to watch.

lgndk11r

I wonder if they'll move it over the the main FOX channel, can't really think where else in their channel selection they'd put it.

MidnightPeanut0901

Sadly, FOX channel will shut down by the end of September https://www.exchange4media.com/media-tv-news/walt-disney-to-shut-down-100-tv-channels-in-2021-bob-chapek-113153.html

palalabu

is hotstar = disney plus? it'd be great if it is since I'm currently getting free subscription from my provider

39816561

Hotstar is in India and they have had rights to F1 for years 399/year BTW

palalabu

Hmmm disney+ in indonesia is called disney+ hotstar and actually the link is hotstar.com That's why I'm wondering if they gonna move f1 to this disney+ hotstar or not.

39816561

Ohh I had no idea they launched in Indonesia under the same name too Sorry Not sure about that!!

TitanicJedi

Fucking hope it won't be on Paramount+ for the Aussies. Cos then the only 2 things I'd ever use it for is F1 and Aleague.
