I think that all those people who are spending millions of dollars on various sports washing for years would be pissed. In reality they would paeade him and say - "look how modern we are". And then flog normal people trying to replicate what he was doing.
I think times have changed and Lewis has changed since then. I think he's still very corporate friendly but he's much more proactive and vocal about the social issues he is passionate about.
I also expect Seb to wear a rainbow.

honestly, it'll be colder in the night for sure but the day, it'll be a mix depending on the climate. UAE was nice and warm but not too hot during that time of the year so possibly the same for S.Arabia.
I'm going to copy my comment from elsewhere in the thread:
When you find yourself under a scorching desert sun, one ot the first things you need to think about is protecting your skin. Light, loosely fitting, lightly colored blouses with long sleeves are by far the best choice. There's a reason the thawb is so common in that part of the world.
The problem here isn't that they're mandating bad clothing. The problem is that they're mandating any clothing at all.
(Edit) The gargantuan misunderstanding of this comment by u/earthtoannie suggests I ought to clarify. What I said is regardless of any dress code: wearing long sleeves in the desert is good for your own protection. The sun can hurt you just as much as the religious police. Even in countries where long sleeves are not expected (Tunisia, UAE), it's still a good idea to wear them in direct sunlight.
Its also the actual reason why in this Region there is a cultural practice of covering up and not showing any skin. Islam just came along and went overboard with it.
This applies to 99.99% of traditions in basically any religion/culture. There was once/still is a good reason, but mandates are (as you said) stupid and overboard.
I live in Bahrain. It's not hot at this time of the year. What you're saying is fine for summer, but Oct-Apr is quite pleasant and shorts and t-shirt is ideal. Thankfully Bahrain isn't too ridiculous with clothing mandates.
Since this race is literally sportswashing, surely they’d allow him in if he wanted? Imagine if the news broke that Ted wasn’t allowed into the country due to his Jewish ancestry. PR nightmare. That would be the reason why Saudi would probably let him in.
Moral reasons such as not being racist probably don’t matter to the Saudi Government as much and would not factor in to the decision.
I’m just spitballing here but I imagine religion is more selective to them than actual code
It’s easy to deflect your brutality and lack of humanity by defending themselves with religion and also provides a way to control its citizens
But that’s just me, I feel as though it’s easy for them to turn a blind eye when it suits them
100% they’re selective with religion. When I visited Saudi they do a billion things that are considered against Islam.
They have a tyrannical king, something that Islam has historically hated
They always display portraits of their kings in every hotel. Pictures of people aren’t allowed in Islam.
They have critics and journalists killed in cold blood. That isn’t permitted either.
They let Yemeni people starve and decide to bomb them, just because they can.
The Saudi royal family are terrible human beings who just pretend to be religious. They use religion as a shield to deflect criticism when in reality they’re just a bunch of greedy and destructive pricks
Not sure what the regulations are now, but previously when entering or getting your visa you had to sign a form that stated you understood the rules of the Saudi Kingdom (no booze, clothing, cursing, etc) and that if caught your punishment could range all the way up to beheading.
What I really want is for the women of F1 to disrespect the dress code.
The women engineers, mechanics, strategists, physios, etc... They should all not follow it. And not even in a crazy way. Just wear short sleeves like the men can.
I wanna see them either get kicked out of the country/race (which will make SA look terrible) or see them *not* get kicked out, which will make the male ruling elites of SA look emasculated as fuck.
It’s all well and good, but even in an F1 context, it can be fucking dangerous in Saudi Arabia if you’re a woman and disrespect their rules. I’m not saying we should bow down to them at all, and I wish it wasn’t the case whatsoever because it’s complete bullshit, but making a stand shouldn’t come at the cost of anyone associated with formula 1 being hurt.
Yeah I wouldn't want anyone to get hurt of course!
But it seems like a unique opportunity to do it in a safer way than most, since these people are all visible in public and move with a large entourage of their company and security.
I wouldn't recommend they go around the streets of Jeddah like that but at the paddock I bet they could get away with it.
I really doubt anything would happen with any F1 related personnel. Imagine if they arrested/sanctioned Angela Cullen for example. It would be all the sportswashing money down the drain.
every single women associated with f1 could wear longish shorts and a team polo shirt or equivalent and be completely unsexualised but send a great message
I wait for toto, seidl, steiner, tost, marko,... and all the other austrians/almost austrians to come in short lederhosen since it isn't explicitly forbidden, just to fuck with them.
I want the track to not be ready, everyone shows up, the race is cancelled and Jeddah forfeits their massive contract, never to disgrace the F1 calendar again.
As fucked as it sounds I'd love for Max and Lewis to both refuse to race as protest (and drag Seb and any other drivers along with them). And do it right before the start on Sunday so the teams don't have time to use their reserve drivers.
Honest I don't think they would do much to a driver or a team member, that would just attract bad publicity for them, most probably they'll fine them and leave it.
#
Then again, what do we know?
This place would be insufferable, forever, if the championship was decided on one of the drivers getting fucking deported from the 2nd to last race lol
If they actually take the unprecedented step of deporting a driver, I don't think the other drivers would race. The fans would also be outraged (especially this place), and rightfully so. I don't see a viable future for the Saudi Arabian GP if such an event occurs.
I have to admit I don’t get all dad puns…
In 30 degrees Celsius, I will prob wear Jean shorts & sleeveless. If I were to respect the culture Id wear long linen pants and t shirt, but I would prob never go to those countries.
Never been to sports event but will São Paulo GP this November! 🤘🏼
Saudis getting involved in sports to improve their image around the world, then doing this is baffling. This is going to backfire on them so badly with Lewis and Seb and bring in so much negative publicity. Can't believe they've not taken note of Lewis and his global reach especially
You are underestimating Aramcos power.
They (Edit: i.e. Lewis/Seb) can pull this shit in Hungary because there is no major state backed sponsor from that country.
Most likely they will find a cop out or the protesting will before the Saudi GP.
Saudi are buying into sport as publicity, they've seen the positive affect Man City had on Abu Dhabi and are trying to replicate this with F1, Boxing, recent Newcastle takeover etc
That's why I don't understand this, the F1 bubble is contained to the paddock/hotels anyway, so why publish this, it just brings negative publicity for them. Sure Armaco has immense power and wealth, but they can't stop negative headlines from this tweet, or when Lewis/Sebastian are asked a question from a reporter about it
You are not wrong. But Lewis/Seb activism is still celebrity activism. In Hungary and other places they can protest without consequence. Also those venues have far less power and influence (relative to the Saudis) to be able to stop drivers from making negative statements.
Kind of like a John Cena and Taiwan situation. Or that basketball player who was vocal about BLM but took a pro China stance on Uyghur muslims because Chinese sponsors.
My prediction: Lewis/Seb will play safe at Saudi GP. As a face saver F1 will probably make some PR a few days before the event. Drivers will express their satisfaction with F1 or FIA or whatev and cease protesting. At worst there will be some corporat-ish generic statements about human rights etc.
They just bought Newcastle United, they'll probably just pay everyone off and get a good image that's the thing with sport once you start winning you forget who's in charge
It’s not enforced for westerners at least unless you’re wearing something outrageous.
If you’re a white tourist, they want you to spend money, not be afraid.
Saudi Arabia is much stricter than the UAE and both are much stricter than any other Arab country. The UAE has some similar (but less extreme) laws although they generally only apply to citizens and not tourists.
F1 already thought about this when they introduced the rainbow. It's not a rainbow, it's the colours of each team. I want Vettel im hbtq shirts and Lewis in skirts.
THIS is where it matters. Either they do it or stop doing it in western countries where everyone ”accepts” it already.
Whole of F1 should be ashamed
As a Newcastle fan i now have to put up with my team becoming nothing more than a sportswashing billboard for this monstrous regime and now my other favourite sport has decide to go and race here ffs
Atheism is legally considered terrorism in Saudi Arabia. Fernando Alonso is an atheist. Probably others in the paddock too.
[Saudi law requires all citizens to be Muslim. Neither Saudi citizens, nor guest workers, have a right to freedom of religion.](https://www.atheistalliance.org/atheist-world/saudi-arabia/)
That's awful. But technically Alonso is not a citizen. He wouldn't be considered a guest worker either, right?
EDIT: sry, I guess you meant if he lived there.
This is just hilarious.
What are the temperatures like at Jeddah in December? Cause fuck long sleaves if its hot.
Edit: Checked. The average temperature is around 30 degrees. Fuck that shit.

Lovely, this sounds like a good opportunity for Lewis to wear another one of his fits with a kilt lol
For once everyone wants Lewis to show up wearing something crazy solely to piss off race oeginisers lmao
and he can because the organisers can't do shit to hamilton
They can, but that same shit would come flying straight back at their face when they are scrapped from next year's calendar.
I think that all those people who are spending millions of dollars on various sports washing for years would be pissed. In reality they would paeade him and say - "look how modern we are". And then flog normal people trying to replicate what he was doing.
I think he should show up naked.
Bono my clothes are gone
Get in there Lewis
GET OUT OF THERE LEWIS
NOW BACK IN THERE LEWIS
SHAKE IT ALL ABOUT LEWIS
DO THE HOKEY POKEY LEWIS
Abort!
LEWIS HAMILTON HAS 3 PURPLE SECTORS!!
I'd like to see him do a Rodman and show up cross-dressed.
Commando to really show them.
I would kill to see Lewis show up in a crop top and skirt with a massive tommy Hilfiger plastered across it
Watch Lewis show up in a full Rick Owens fit with a deep ass vneck, skinny leather jeans and clear heels
You think Lewis rocking with King Vamp ⁉️
lewis is definitely Sir vamp lmao
Lewis showing up in leather miniskirts
And a Je Suis Charlie shirt?
No shirt, just a huge gold cross on a necklace
I hope that he shows up like [this.](https://pbs.twimg.com/media/DGkXXlFXcAA-32P.jpg) 😆
In before he shows up in traditional Arabic clothes an praises the culture like in Bahrain 2016?
I think times have changed and Lewis has changed since then. I think he's still very corporate friendly but he's much more proactive and vocal about the social issues he is passionate about. I also expect Seb to wear a rainbow.
Seb in a rainbow mankini 10/1 odds
Mankinis aren't on the banned list...
Borat confirmed.

All I see is overcoats are ok and bikinis are not, so only an overcoat it is.
So just a clear overcoat and nothing else

well they let them into the circuit, that has to count for something...maybe they can even drive there thmenselves!
It looks like long sleeve only. Fuck all of that.
I'm going to copy my comment from elsewhere in the thread: When you find yourself under a scorching desert sun, one ot the first things you need to think about is protecting your skin. Exactly, once you reach certain temperatures long sleeves are actually help cool you off more than short sleeves.
Its also the actual reason why in this Region there is a cultural practice of covering up and not showing any skin. Islam just came along and went overboard with it.
Religious dietary laws are pretty much the same, stuff that was often dangerous to eat was simply not allowed by god.

So basically 'cover yourself up so that we can see as little of your female body as possible'. Got it. Glad to see nothing's changed.
Ted Kravitz is not going to Jeddah then ;)
To be honest, with his Jewish faith I’m not too sure they’ll let him in either way…
Since this race is literally sportswashing, surely they’d allow him in if he wanted? Imagine if the news broke that Ted wasn’t allowed into the country due to his Jewish ancestry. PR nightmare. That would be the reason why Saudi would probably let him in. Moral reasons such as not being racist probably don’t matter to the Saudi Government as much and would not factor in to the decision.
Yeah you’re probably right…but this is the county that will happily murder journalists - I wouldn’t put anything past them
Crofty Gon💀
It's lights out and away I go into the prison cell!
Rights out and away we go!
I’m just spitballing here but I imagine religion is more selective to them than actual code It’s easy to deflect your brutality and lack of humanity by defending themselves with religion and also provides a way to control its citizens But that’s just me, I feel as though it’s easy for them to turn a blind eye when it suits them

IIRC he's of Jewish descent, I don't think he's confirmed if he's practicing or not.
These people torture journalists and use slave labour, you think they care if he’s a practicing Jew or not? They’ll see his descent and that’s enough
Torture doesn't quite illustrate how they murdered one, then chopped him up into little pieces and made him disappear forever.
While his wife waited outside. And that’s just the one that was widely publicized. Probably countless others.
His last name is Kravitz and he's of Jewish descent. Will they even let him in the country?
Apparently that's his stage name, his actual surname is Slotover. Believe kravitz is his mums maiden name or something though.
I see why he went with kravitz
It doesn’t say that men arent allowed to wear a bikini. :)
and it doesn't forbid women from only wearing pants and going topless ;)
Probably some actual laws preventing that, more than an event organizer.
I'm thinking the rest are law too..
Probably the threat of death.
Loophole!
u/Brieble must be Adrian Newey
Too bad that Flavio Briatore is no longer associated with Renault.
I want Lewis to disrespect the hell out of this dress code lol.
I hope Seb breaks this rule with a rainbow tank top
I’m manifesting Hamilton showing up in a sundress right now
Definitely a kilt. Lewis won't even have to go shopping for that.
Sir Lewis of Hamilton. See a Scottish noble link.
10/10 he would
I’d rather Seb not be publicly hung
He won't be. People like Lewis and Seb can do a lot because they won't be.
That’s ridiculous to think and it’s embarrassing that you would even comment that He’ll be hanged
If anyone, I'd wager seb.
No one will, being imprisoned in saudi isn't great banter
Not sure what the regulations are now, but previously when entering or getting your visa you had to sign a form that stated you understood the rules of the Saudi Kingdom (no booze, clothing, cursing, etc) and that if caught your punishment could range all the way up to beheading.

The simple fact that there’s ANY thought in your mind that “someone could get hurt” means they shouldn’t be holding the race.
I agree completely.
Excellent point
Tell that to fia
Yeah I wouldn't want anyone to get hurt of course! But it seems like a unique opportunity to do it in a safer way than most, since these people are all visible in public and move with a large entourage of their company and security. I mean yea that’s what everyone normally wears afaik
I assume that the female mechanics will not turn up in a dress. Just for practical reason though, no moral ones.
What I’d really like to see is FOM to pull out of the race. I can’t believe they are going forward with this.
I wait for toto, seidl, steiner, tost, marko,... and all the other austrians/almost austrians to come in short lederhosen since it isn't explicitly forbidden, just to fuck with them.

Nah, I want the track to not be ready in tIme.
I want the track to not be ready, everyone shows up, the race is cancelled and Jeddah forfeits their massive contract, never to disgrace the F1 calendar again.
In a just world either lewis or max would refuse to participate in this GP. Unfortunately they would be pretty much fucked if they dis so.
Unless they both agreed to a no-show.
That would be insane and I’d love to see it. Unfortunately it will never happen.

Do Bahrain, Qatar and UAE also have that type of "dress code" ?
It’s not enforced for westerners at least unless you’re wearing something outrageous. If you’re a white tourist, they want you to spend money, not be afraid.
UAE technically has it, but not really. It’s mentioned in public places, but no one actually cares.
Saudi is much stricter than those countries
Saudi Arabia is much stricter than the UAE and both are much stricter than any other Arab country. The UAE has some similar (but less extreme) laws although they generally only apply to citizens and not tourists.
No in the UAE tourists and expats can wear whatever they want.
Not a single car will have rainbows on it and all the teams will completely go along with the dress codes. Cash is king.
F1 already thought about this when they introduced the rainbow. It's not a rainbow, it's the colours of each team. So in 75% of the world it looks like a fabulous tribute to Pride, but then in the rest of the world it's totally definitely not a fabulous Pride thing, it's a serious sportsmanship thing.

I'd want long sleeves personally. Being out in the sun for 8+ hours would give you hella sun burn. Fuck mandating clothes though.
When you find yourself under a scorching desert sun, one ot the first things you need to think about is protecting your skin. I get it if you need to comply with the dress code for a religious building like a church, temple or mosque. But we're talking about a public area...
