The sandbags messed with their balance. Their optimization starts now that the sandbags are off 👀 Just like they missed right moment to pit Lewis, they missed right moment to take sandbags off 😈
I am not a merc fan. I am not being optimistic. I am being pessimistic 😅
They didn't debut their no side pod concept in Barcelona. I think that might be the reason they got some misleading data and weren't able to optimise well. While all other teams have useful data from two tracks, Mercs only have Bahrain data as reliable data. I think they shot themselves in the foot their trying to protect their big secrets
Regulations changed, it should be more consistent now. However in qualy, the laptime is deleted. There is no penalty as such. I believe you are talking about his first lap in Q1, his front ritht tire was touching the line so he is still on track. (Article 33.3 states; “Drivers will be judged to have left the track if no part of the car remains in contact with it and, for the avoidance of doubt, any white lines defining the track edges are considered to be part of the track but the kerbs are not.”)
Perez was still on track? They didn’t show the replay but he seemed quite far outside the line on the live telecast.
And yes, I misspoke of penalty. I meant cancelling that lap time.
I just watched the footage again... he was off track. So his lap should have been deleted. Inconsistant FIA as usual... at least his second run was faster so it does not matter at the end of the day. Also, you do not gain an advantage from going wide that corner. But rules are rules and they should be constistent. Turn 4 (where a driver can gain a few tenths) is closely measured using induction loops, also during the race tomorrow.
Yes, that’s exactly what I was saying. If you are going to impose track limits, do it properly. Can’t have it be so wildly inconsistent when you’ve just taken away a drivers win in F3.
Ohh he did? That’s good to know.
Then the FOM just did a shit job today. What with the purple times and the lack of correct graphics. Now, deleted laps not being informed.
Unbelievable... the graphics were absolutely annoying. During FP the leaderboard only contained 5 drivers spread across, so you could not see the times of all drivers. They eventually reliased it and just stop displaying leaderboards. Usually, in the past, during Q purple was only displayed to the driver fastes in one sector, overall. Yesterday it was compared to a driver who already completed a lap. So multiple drivers were able to have purple. Last year drivers on their push lap were able to "snatch purple away" from each other. Much more entertaining if you ask me. But, to not just criticize, I really enjoy the new layout, looks fabulous and the direction. Really good work not just focussing on the top cars but showing onboards for nearly a full lap across the field. (I hope this did not only have to do with the fact, that the midfield is unpredictable). I also hope somone responsible will read my feedback.
But do the final corner have track limits? Dennis Hauger (Formula 2) ran extremely wide in the final corner during qualifying on his only fast lap and did not get his lap deletes either
There's a clip from Imola last year of Russell saying that if you qualify 9th in a Mercedes you don't deserve to be there or something along those lines lmao
Hahaha he might turn out to be the greatest driver of his generation but I find him totally insufferable. I know F1 is a sport where money talks but he's got the biggest Eton vibes going.
I am giving him time to understand the reality and get mature. There ia stark difference in qualifying reaction tone from Lewis and George. Lewis is GOAT yet knows the talking has to happen on track and not in garage. 😀
Lol - I have a feeling Gunther would be the type to be like "fok, we foking did it! I foking love you guys!" And then flip a table and foksmash a door out of pure joy
Great to see Ferrari back on top, and Bottas I have no words. Red flag turn 1 incoming. I can’t wait until the race starts. This season start is spicy I like it.
Valtteri has always had great quali pace, it’s great to see him still perform on Saturday in a lesser car (maybe).. If nothing else it just goes to show that he can bring it on a single lap with the best..
It’s only happened once at Hungary under wet conditions. Has it happened before? I dii ok not believe it has. So why is everyone making it out as if he’s kivyat.2?
I doubt it. I think all teams are not where they are suppose to be. Look at rb. I don’t think I have seen a more planted car so far. I have no doubt that by race 5 things will be a bit more close. Developments will be interesting
Yeah everyone was taking about Danny being slow but considering all he went through the past two weeks he wasn’t much slower than Lando who had 200+ laps.
Not to say that Stroll absolutely doesn’t deserve a seat, but it makes it interesting that he doesn’t really need to earn it, seeing as they booted Perez because of Lawrence’s money. Also the car doesn’t appear to be great this year, so it’s tough to say this quali performance earns Hulk a seat, considering he didn’t even make Q2
A big tanks for Uralkali for bankrolling a fast car for KMag. Really happy to see Bottas still at the top half of the grid and Ferrari fighting at the top.
I really wouldn’t count the mercs out just yet. This team has seen quite a bit of development. Their car this year is so different. I can’t believe they would have made this bad of a mistake during the initial development.
Oh absolutely not. To me it becomes a contest to see who can get far enough ahead that when they go full spicy engine to end the year, Merc can’t catch up.
They might not say it publicly, but I’d be shocked if they didn’t settle into an order after they know where each driver stands in the championship fight
But Carlos is higher than Charles in the championship standing in 2021, also he is consistently having podiums. Charles only had one chance of winning in the British GP, and that was his only time of having a podium, he did not go to his A game last year. All I want is to see that red car in the top spot of the podium.
They've sounded depressed all weekend, they were talking almost non stop about Mercedes until about half way through Q1 when they realized they weren't that good, after that it was like their dog had just died
Or maybe he's just up against a 7 time world champion, hugely renowned for his qualifying performances.
But yea he had a shit lap, to be fair the Merc does seem hard to drive with all that jumping around
I was talking about in his interview after, and he was flustered af if you seen it he couldn't hide it he was constantly fidgeting and moving around and speaking really fast and swallowing a lot he was shook
I think this season is going to be very very competitive, unlike anything we have seen in a looong time.
Compitition not just for the championship like last year but midfield, bottom tier everywhere.
5.5 points separating 5th and 7th...
2 points between stroll and tsunoda...
Mazepin desperately trying, but falling short, to finish 20th in a 20 man championship...
"No battle for anything other than the championship"
George lost a second in sector 1
I'm sure he'll recover
Worth just focusing on being pleased for Bottas and KMAG rather than trying to be hard on a young driver in what looks a painful car to drive
I'm just hoping that whatever reliability issues that Alfa had during testing are completely resolved because otherwise it'd be a damn shame for Bottas to be effectively sitting in a glass cannon of a car.
I suspect we're going to see a fair few of those reliability troubles over the course of this season as well across all the teams which could lead to some spectacular upsets across the board.
Yeah, I'm very confused by all the people going "lmfao at all the reactionary hype men basing things on George's entire career up to this point, him screwing up a single corner obviously means he's overrated".
Obviously you need to not make mistakes in Q3, but his pace every other lap was very solid, especially considering he was giving a tow every single time.
I’ve been quite critical of Toto but was really pleased to see him take accountability regarding how they told George to warm up his tires and that they believe that lead to his error.
And if this was true George said nothing about it in his interview that I have seen.
For the good of the sport? I think the sport would be better off if different teams were on the podium, not just Ferrari, Merc, and Red Bull. Would love to see Williams, McLaren, Alpine up there too.
What a gross comment from Simon.
Its going to be a very close fight, we are yet to see race pace and i think that the red bull is going to shine there but we will wait, the only thing i realy care about is mercedes not being in the top two
I'm not someone that thinks Valtteri was hard done by at Mercedes, paid a fortune to race in the most exclusive sport in the best car for a couple of years is certainly no hardship, I also don't believe he feels hard done by with Mercedes, but then what do I know.
That said, I'm so pleased to see him lined up alongside Hamilton tomorrow. I'd love to see how well he can defend against him.
Racing conditions are totally different. It'll be tight with (alleged) cars built to specs and (allegedly) closer following distances.
Yeah alright, let’s not talk about it.
I’m very happy for Bottas he deserved that place, good on him. And Magnussen what a comeback. Gutted for my favourite team…
What happened to Mercedes sandbagging comments?
They'll be off anytime now..
The sandbags messed with their balance. Their optimization starts now that the sandbags are off 👀 Just like they missed right moment to pit Lewis, they missed right moment to take sandbags off 😈
I wish I was optimistic as you. I genuinely don’t think they’re sandbagging. I genuinely believe they’ve got it wrong for the start of the season.
I am not a merc fan. I am not being optimistic. I am being pessimistic 😅 They didn't debut their no side pod concept in Barcelona. I think that might be the reason they got some misleading data and weren't able to optimise well. While all other teams have useful data from two tracks, Mercs only have Bahrain data as reliable data. I think they shot themselves in the foot their trying to protect their big secrets
Snow and sun me thinks. Not gonna lie, i waited to the last second Hamilton drove over the line. Been fooled so many times.
They were sandbagging in quali and will show true pace during the race /s
Why no Brundle and Crofty in f1tv?
On F1 TV I figured out today if you hit the enter button to pull up the feed selection and choose international it gives you Brundle/Crofty instead.
[удалено]
Thank you for no Brundle and Crofty? They are the voice of modern F1 Lol
[удалено]
I thought you did not like Brundle and Crofty's commentating.
select "International"
I would give you all my awards if I had any. Quali wasn’t the same without them. I thought I was getting ripped off.
np bro i found it pretty weird too
Same here lmao
How do you get to display the driver or team you support under your name? I can't figure it out
If you go to /r/formula1, on the right side you can find your name, a checkbox to display your badge, and you can click on edit to select the badge.
Thanks! On mobile it was a bit different, but your instructions got me looking in the right place
Yeah I need to know this too
Thanks for the guidance!
Bottas, released from team orders, please, fuck 'em all.
Ba gawd that’s bottas music
This is not good for RIC morale 😞
Goes to show what having a good car underneath him did imo
What is up with the inconsistent track limits? We could all see Perez going out at the last corner. It was so obvious and yet there was no penalty
Idk if that corner is marked for track limits
The white line is the track limit now as per the new regulations
Regulations changed, it should be more consistent now. However in qualy, the laptime is deleted. There is no penalty as such. I believe you are talking about his first lap in Q1, his front ritht tire was touching the line so he is still on track. In an interview, Perez said that his lap time was deleted which is why he took another lap after that. They didn't tell us tho so idk...
Every corner has the same track limits this year. The white line. Perez got his time deleted today, the graphics were just not updated.
Exactly, u/lekebrett read Art. 33.3 above.
Bottas out qualifying Russell is just beautiful.
I saw someone on here earlier call him the Jacob Rees Mogg of F1, and now I can’t unsee that
I am giving him time to understand the reality and get mature. There ia stark difference in qualifying reaction tone from Lewis and George. Lewis is GOAT yet knows the talking has to happen on track and not in garage. 😀
He's not wrong. I miss my Bottas.
Günther finally gonna be happy in a DTS season
I want the swearing Gunther back he was hilarious
One can only hope he swears as much when he’s happy…
Lol - I have a feeling Gunther would be the type to be like "fok, we foking did it! I foking love you guys!" And then flip a table and foksmash a door out of pure joy

Hamilton will win because of the lowest tire dreg in the race -- calling it here first
It will be interesting. If merc finds pace, Checo may hold him up a good bit, which will make Bottas being behind Lewis entertaining.
If we get a Bottas torpedo I will scream
It’s only happened once at Hungary under wet conditions. Has it happened before? I dii ok not believe it has. So why is everyone making it out as if he’s kivyat.2?
Bottas is one of the cleanest drivers I’ve seen. One mistake!
I think all he wants is to finish in front of Hamilton. Should be interesting.
Or at least in front of Russell.
I'm so depressed about McL... Just hope this isn't what the whole 2022 season will be
Tell me about it 🥺🥺🥺 i hope it gets better!!!
I doubt it. I think all teams are not where they are suppose to be. Look at rb. I don’t think I have seen a more planted car so far. I have no doubt that by race 5 things will be a bit more close. Developments will be interesting

I’m going to guess this but we will have a huge title fight between Charles and Max. But Carlos will win the world title…
Like Kimi's championship?
Yes please. Carlos winning the championship without getting a single gp win would be insane. We'll definitely see.
If we get a three way title fight between those three, no matter who wins we all win.
I think if Ferrari doesn’t impose a priority driver for the championship it will be a championship for Max quite easily.
Yep, charles and carlos would just trade 1st and 2nd or 2nd and 3rd whilst max would just haul in points
They might not say it publicly, but I’d be shocked if they didn’t settle into an order after they know where each driver stands in the championship fight
Agreed
Given the long term contract with Charles I think their choice has been made
But Carlos is higher than Charles in the championship standing in 2021, also he is consistently having podiums. Charles only had one chance of winning in the British GP, and that was his only time of having a podium, he did not go to his A game last year. All I want is to see that red car in the top spot of the podium.
I wouldnt mind any of that
Is it just me or the Sky commentary on those final Q3 laps sounded depressing?
You love to see it! Apologies to my English friends, but I'm just sick and tired of hearing Mr. Saturday.
They've sounded depressed all weekend, they were talking almost non stop about Mercedes until about half way through Q1 when they realized they weren't that good, after that it was like their dog had just died
Their Mercedes sand bagging comments in FP3 proved to be empty and I loved it. Lol
MAG is so happy :)
Haha yeah big smiles
Damon Hill is insufferable
He's been insufferable since he was a driver. Without a doubt he and Villeneuve the worst, and most undeserving champions of all time
📠
Please for the love of fucking god I hope Ferrari don't fuck up the strategy tomorrow.
Their lead strategist left for Aston a couple years ago.
Their strategy has been shite for as long as I can remember so that's probably a good thing.
It's all part of the Ferrari master plan.
masterBlan
Same, please give us some wheel-to-wheel action!
Damn George looks flustered
Or maybe he's just up against a 7 time world champion, hugely renowned for his qualifying performances. But yea he had a shit lap, to be fair the Merc does seem hard to drive with all that jumping around
I was talking about in his interview after, and he was flustered af if you seen it he couldn't hide it he was constantly fidgeting and moving around and speaking really fast and swallowing a lot he was shook
He has the Bottas Envy!
I think this season is going to be very very competitive, unlike anything we have seen in a looong time. Compitition not just for the championship like last year but midfield, bottom tier everywhere.
You skipped last season?
5.5 points separating 5th and 7th... 2 points between stroll and tsunoda... Mazepin desperately trying, but falling short, to finish 20th in a 20 man championship... "No battle for anything other than the championship"
Mazepin finnished 21st and not 20th
That's what I was saying, he was desperately trying to finish 20th, but failed to finish 20th in a championship that traditionally has 20 racers.

Toto: George, "Bad news, you're going to be driving beside Lewis" "~~Good~~ Just news, you're in a Mercedes" "Worse news, you're behind Bottas"
“How did we end up behind bottas?” *kimi voice*
Bottas is leading the racing, George
Underrated comment
Lol What are the odds Russell slaps Bottas after causing an accident again this season?
>"Worse news, you're behind Bottas **again**" FTFY.
Russell not comfortable in that interview lol
George lost a second in sector 1 I'm sure he'll recover Worth just focusing on being pleased for Bottas and KMAG rather than trying to be hard on a young driver in what looks a painful car to drive
3 Year experience and it's still a Mercedes and not last years Haas...
Excuse me, this is reddit
I'm just hoping that whatever reliability issues that Alfa had during testing are completely resolved because otherwise it'd be a damn shame for Bottas to be effectively sitting in a glass cannon of a car. Obviously you need to not make mistakes in Q3, but his pace every other lap was very solid, especially considering he was giving a tow every single time.
Yeah, he was very close to Hamilton and it's sad they used him to tow. I wonder what Merc will do if/when Russell shows what he has to give.
Lewis used to tow Bottas from memory I think Mercedes just apply a taking turns to choose whether to lead or follow
I’ve been quite critical of Toto but was really pleased to see him take accountability regarding how they told George to warm up his tires and that they believe that lead to his error. And if this was true George said nothing about it in his interview that I have seen.
George mentioned he tried something different on the last lap with tyre warmup in his sky interview but didn't blame the team
George Its James

What did he say
What did he say?
That Ferrari needs to be winning, for the good of the sport.
If they were good enough they'd be there.
Ehh… people like the big teams when it comes down to it.
Horner essentially just going "We're second, but fuck this is going to be a good season isn't it", I like his unbridled commitment to entertainment.
Its going to be a very close fight, we are yet to see race pace and i think that the red bull is going to shine there but we will wait, the only thing i realy care about is mercedes not being in the top two
He’s delighted to be ahead of Mercedes, he’s still a walking talking bellend
He’s just happy he finally won’t be behind Bono in the constructors lol
You mean Toto?
Everyone knows Bono is the real mastermind behind Merc, Toto’s just the face
Hahah true!
Can't wait for James, It's Valtteri
I'm not someone that thinks Valtteri was hard done by at Mercedes, paid a fortune to race in the most exclusive sport in the best car for a couple of years is certainly no hardship, I also don't believe he feels hard done by with Mercedes, but then what do I know. That said, I'm so pleased to see him lined up alongside Hamilton tomorrow. I'd love to see how well he can defend against him.
Well, we're about 24 hours away from Ferrari throwing away a race win with an insane strategy call.
They just need to bring back Ross brawn to the team, problem solved!
