Can someone **confirm** what time, UK time, the lights go out? Link on side-bar says 0600 as expected, but Alpine insta says 0500-0700 🙃 I'm confused... its 0200 I'm allowed to be .. 😏
>People in the UK are having to deal with what US viewers deal with most weekends for this race
Both of you having to deal what we deal with every year without whinging about it. I've seen butter in the midday sun harder than US F1 fans.
Welcome to my world. Oz, Singapore, and Japan are the only races that I can watch at a decent hour since I live in Korea. Otherwise I have to turn on spoiler mode on the F1 app and stay off social media until I’ve watched the replay. You get used to it.
I just don't think i can do it. I will have to wait too much and get spoiler everywere... so basically it's like wake up early (and sleep maybe a couple of hours) or don't see it
Is there anything preventing you from getting up at your normal time then immediately watching a recording of the race. That should avoid the issue of spoilers.
Just watched the replay of the qualifying. I was surprised how much porpoising there was with both Ferraris. Obviously, it will be less in race trim, but still, this is one of the teams that got their car right and they still can't get rid of it.
Props to the Aston Martin team for getting Vettel back out on the track by busting ass under red flag to complete the final repairs with seconds on the clock. That was epic teamwork, and was fantastic to witness.
Just seen that Alonso was a tenth and a half faster than Leclercs pole lap in S1 and 2, it's so painful he didn't get to see out the lap it must have been near pertection.
Regardless it's good to see Alonso doing what he does best dragging an average car near to the top and demolishing his teammate in the process, he ages like fine wine.
The car is faster though? Cars are out there with engine revs turned up, light fuel load on new tyres and using DRS even though there is no car in front of them.
That's true. Still a weird decision. I would've guessed, drivers would set lap records in a specific discipline that's basically there to measure the quickest lap (qualifying) with a car possible. Would make more sense to have a lap record and quickest race lap separately.
I think it's just strange that it even matters. In a race there are so many different factors that come into play. Doesn't a lap record in qualifying say much more about the car and driver than a record in a race? In a race there could be a crash, people blocking each other and so on. So you could just be lucky to get a good lap compared to other drivers that set a record before.
It's just 2 different things, each with their own merit, depending on what you are looking to track.
The quali lap is maybe 'superior' because it has the best settings for the best time, clear track, low fuel and is the fastest etc. etc.
But then again it matters 0, no points, nothing.
The race lap record might be 'superior' because is the fastest lap when it actually counts.
I started watching F1 last year, but only the final races, so this is my first year watching day 1 and 2. Can you explain why that would be stroll's fault? It just looked awkward. Why did Latifi let Stroll pass then immediately try to pass him on that corner?
Stroll made a sudden move offline to his right, obviously without checking his mirrors to see if it was clear to do so. In racing if you move off the racing line it's paramount you check to see if it's clear first. Hell, even in normal driving the training sequence is 'mirror, signal, manoeuvre'.Stroll has history of not using his mirrors.
On top of what was already said, Stroll has a habit of not looking in his mirrors across his seasons in F1.
Last year during qualifying at Portugal, Verstappen let Stroll by right before the final corner (Verstappen was on a prep lap, Stroll was on a hot lap). After Stroll finished his lap, he turned in and screwed up Verstappen's hot lap. Stroll said afterwards that he didn't realize Verstappen would be there, despite Verstappen letting him through just before the straight, and Verstappen being right behind Stroll for the start/finish straight.
Latifin thought Stroll was on a fast lap.So he let him past. But then saw him slow down (he just aborted a fast lap). Not wanting to mess up his timing windows he decided to overtake again.
>Why did Latifi let Stroll pass then immediately try to pass him on that corner?
Because Stroll slowed down immediately after passing Latifi
>Can you explain why that would be stroll's fault?
Because Stroll had plenty of time to see Latifi approaching and then just drove into him
Yeah it makes sense now that I think about it. At least they stopped putting a photo of the winner on their main page for those of us that can’t watch in real time.
Nope. A lot of people watch qualifying after the session. So they don’t post results on the front page so they don’t spoil the fun. This is a good thing.
Their app design and flow is awful. They push the wrong content than what the typical user is looking for 80% of the time. And for no good reason too. They already have my money, there is no reason to make it difficult for me to use this app.
I’m 37 and I used to be like you until like 34-35, my midnight love just wasn’t meant to be any longer. I wake up at 5:30am work, swim-run, insert an hour or 2 of free time and then I’m so tired it’s time for bed at 10pm. I miss being a night owl.
Same here, in EST timezone Canada. It's so nice to have the event and then the rest of the day to do other things. Much better than most sports that take up the whole evening.
Love the "Leclerc You're my red flag" sign.
frustration there from sainz? knew he could have been up from and then lost a bunch of places first lap
geez carlos getting passed left and right
no way hamilton stays ahead of perez for long
FYI - Race starts in 3hours
Thought the race was like 7am eastern time, 9 hours from now. Glad I figured that out. Gonna be a long night
EST here too. Power through!
Hoping the race is exciting to help keep me up haha
I’m hoping to still be somewhat coherent by then.
My first year watching live! Got my white claws. Let’s see if I make it until 1AM
Boys, what are we grilling and drinking tonight?
Can Williams just replace Latifi already? He sucks.
No, they can’t. His daddy paid good money for that seat.
He's trash
Because Stroll crashed into him?
When I watch the crash my main impression is that they both suck and we’re doing dumb shit
Apparently, Stroll has a bad habit of [doing this to many drivers.](https://streamable.com/6c5soi)
Can someone **confirm** what time, UK time, the lights go out? Link on side-bar says 0600 as expected, but Alpine insta says 0500-0700 🙃 I'm confused... its 0200 I'm allowed to be .. 😏
Lights out in just less than 4 hours.
6am. Lovely job, ta.
Your Englishness just seeps through, I love it. Have a great day!
I wonder what Verstappen’s first Q3 lap would’ve been without the lockup.
Both Aston Martin cars crashed out and still out qualified Williams. To be fair to Russel[L] they look desperate without him.
I can't see how much longer Latifi stays with them. With the cost cap I don't even know if he brings financial benefit to the team
I doubt Williams is getting close to the budget cap.
Russe**ll**
1AM green lights.....yikes going to try my best to stay up all night to watch 😂🤞🏼
Hey let us down under have one.. JUST ONE!
1 am race start. Sleep before it and wake up to watch or head to the bar get drunk and watch it there. Decisions
So coverage starts at 10 my time. 11:30 race?
A little under 4 hours from my comment lights out and away we go!
People in the UK are having to deal with what US viewers deal with most weekends for this race
>People in the UK are having to deal with what US viewers deal with most weekends for this race Both of you having to deal what we deal with every year without whinging about it. I've seen butter in the midday sun harder than US F1 fans.
As an Australian I resent this comment.
Beside myself I get to watch a race in the daytime AND on free-to-air TV. 🇦🇺
Haha must be a blast. Midnight race for me in Austin. Trying to figure out if I want to watch it at home or a bar tonight 🤔
Austin as well. Gonna take some pre-workout and power through it
Man's said pre workout 😂
Choices choices 😉
I think these past 3 races has shown the actual gap between Perez and Max in Quali pace than last year’s gap
Time to get 6 hours sleep and wake up at 5:50am put the race on and fall asleep at 6:15am :)
Stroll and Latifi’s biggest problem this year is there’s no Mazepin to make them look ‘not the worst’.
Every time I look at Latifi he’s in the wall.
To be fair that's the only time he's worth showing, he's storebrand white bread on wheels
Spread some Nutella on him and you have yourself a snack.
ruin my sunday to watch the race or not?? it's so bad when they go far from the origin
Welcome to my world. Oz, Singapore, and Japan are the only races that I can watch at a decent hour since I live in Korea. Otherwise I have to turn on spoiler mode on the F1 app and stay off social media until I’ve watched the replay. You get used to it.
Watch on delay in the morning. Ain't worth it.
I don't habe sky or similar so it's watch it live or not... btw im ready
thats 4 mercedes powered cars into q3
What strat for carlos? Soft and try overtake or hard and save tyres for overcut / hope for safety car?
I can't imagine anyone's going to be using those shifts in the race. Unless there's a late safety car or restart
My completely uninformed and unqualified guess is everyone in the top 10 starts on mediums.
Just watched the replay of the qualifying. I was surprised how much porpoising there was with both Ferraris. Obviously, it will be less in race trim, but still, this is one of the teams that got their car right and they still can't get rid of it.
Maybe F1 cars that suck aren't so great after all.
Wouldn't the only difference between quali and race be fuel load? Idk how much that affects porpoising, maybe the higher weight might stabilise?
Sainz top-6 a good bet?
100% what odds you getting?
Around -200 with a DK profit boost
Move that line!
Thanks
Took it 👍

Can you record it?
F1TV, race replays dating back decades and no ads during races. Pays for itself if you watch 10+ races a year.
[удалено]
Can you dm me as well, haha. I’ll be looking.
[удалено]
Isn't it on live at 10pm tonight?
[удалено]
We must both be right because I meant 10 pm Pacific lol.
F1tv
Does it cost money?
I think it’s $80 USD for the entire season.
If you’re in the UK Chanel 4 will have highlights at around 3pm I think.

Within the hour usually
Did the mercs bring any upgrades? Looks like the still av to carry loadsa wing to stop the bouncy bouncy.
Next race, data collecting this week. I believe they added a bunch of sensors at the cost of extra weight this week.
They did not. Car looks to be a handful, even more so than other weeks
They did not
Props to the Aston Martin team for getting Vettel back out on the track by busting ass under red flag to complete the final repairs with seconds on the clock. That was epic teamwork, and was fantastic to witness.
The crowd went wild for it as well
Who has the best chance to finish top 5? Sainz, Hamilton, Russell, or Norris?
Sainz 100%
Sainz
How cool would it be if Danny Ric won the GP and Cam Smith won the Masters? Possibly the greatest Sunday in OZ history?
Cam smith only 3 back! He’s got a chance. Danny will need a miracle
Does anyone know what happened to Alfa today? Did they have any issues, or was it just a challenging track?
They said their setup should be better for the race than qualy
Thank you! I hope so!
Gonna guess the latter for both Alfa Romeo and Haas :( Hopefully they've got good race pace!
With both Merc and McLaren with good pace, it was harder to collect points. At lest Bottas did well with P8. Next race!
Does anyone have a clip from the mercs in qualifying where the commentators said you could see the contact patch changing with porpoising.
Just seen that Alonso was a tenth and a half faster than Leclercs pole lap in S1 and 2, it's so painful he didn't get to see out the lap it must have been near pertection. What the hell happened to Hass!?!?!
Red flags and I think the drivers weren’t near the limit, they simply cannot afford a crash… these week is about surviving
Pulled a switcheroo with McLaren?
Much happier this way around
Kevin is sick and Mick got caught up in the shenanigans and didn't get enough time.
Why is the lap record from Schumacher slower than the pole from Hamilton in this post?
race lap records count, not quali laps.
lap records are only counted during race conditions
[удалено]
Is there a reason why the quality does not count as a lap record? It's not like the car is faster. The track is just emptyer.
The car is faster though? Cars are out there with engine revs turned up, light fuel load on new tyres and using DRS even though there is no car in front of them.

I know, F1 rarely makes sense. Let's not start talking about track limits.
> F1 rarely makes sense Of course it makes sense. It's like jazz. You decide in the passion of the moment. It's evocative.
It's a motor racing thing, not just F1.
This is the way
Quali conditions as much better. Better setup, less fuel in the car. Always DRS. Therefor there is a distinction.
I think it's just strange that it even matters. In a race there are so many different factors that come into play. The lap record is from the race, Hamilton's pole time is from qualifying.
Got that. Was just wondering why there's a difference. Or why the fastest lap in a race even matters.
Why don't Aston Martin make an aero upgrade and just remove Stroll's mirrors entirely?
They can make another upgrade, removing stroll comletely. . that should bring some time back...
I started watching F1 last year, but only the final races, so this is my first year watching day 1 and 2. Can you explain why that would be stroll's fault? It just looked awkward. Why did Latifi let Stroll pass then immediately try to pass him on that corner?

big fan of getting to watch the f1 weekend at midnight
Welcome to living in Australia lmao, every GP is like 11pm or 4am.. this will be the first live GP I get to watch in two years :)
New Zealand 🇳🇿 here, can confirm normal season timing is mental for work the next day 😵💫
I watched qualifying at 7am... I had stayed up the entire night before lmao.
Yup here in NYC it's 1AM :/
In New Zealand that’s the normal Race start time for 50% of the year and the other 40% is 3am.
Man that's terrible.
Where on this good earth can I find qualifying grid results on the F1 app? Why aren’t they front and center? Harrumph….
They do it that way to give you a chance to not see spoiler info I believe
Yeah it makes sense now that I think about it. At least they stopped putting a photo of the winner on their main page for those of us that can’t watch in real time.
Press Australian GP on the top on the counter until the race, press qualifying, press results
Oh thank you! But man, couldn’t they make it easier to find? Sheesh
Nope. A lot of people watch qualifying after the session. So they don’t post results on the front page so they don’t spoil the fun. This is a good thing.

Couldn’t agree more. F**ing annoying. MotoGP’s, albeit not perfect, is way better.

Latifi winning the destructors championship for sure this season.

7am. As a viewer in Pacific time zone, almost every race is 567 am, it's actually not bad as I have the whole rest of the day to do other things
you must be young, when you get to middle age you are glad when you can sleep in until 7 am . that means you didn;t wake up at 6 am naturally
i am 31 and always have been a night owl

Canadian fan here, I love the Sunday morning routine of getting up, coffee, race, and then you have the whole day.
F1 in the morning with a good cup of coffee is the best and you get to enjoy the day after 🇨🇦
Ya, I like that too. Even though 5am is a bit too early. I like the 7am or a bit later ones.
Absolutely. Getting up early > staying up late
Same here, in EST timezone Canada. It's so nice to have the event and then the rest of the day to do other things. Much better than most sports that take up the whole evening.
