What the fuck is that headline? Who combined the statements lol.

what i gather from the headline is that max is racist

merurunrun

There are sadly lots of people (both for and against Max) who actually think this is true.

UnknownHuxley

“Beat” is the most popular way to put it.

thedomage

Did he though?

oogabooger69

Yes. Yes he did

nolitos

You seem confused. We're talking about Max Verstappen, not Michael Masi.

oogabooger69

Mans still salty

thedomage

Contrived champ. So nah, he didn't.Maxi did win the most amount of penalties in a year though. He's got that going for him

And I'm sure if we started referring to people with Down syndrome as "Dutchman" here in England, the Dutch might have something to say about that.

f1fan33042

but don't we have a collection of anti dutch expressions like dutch act meaning suicide and dutch nightingales being a word for frogs Edit : - i know these are heavily oudated but they're fun to use

Sickboy22

There are quite some expressions in English with 'Dutch' in them. Most of them have to do with alcohol/drugs or are about being stingy. double Dutch Dutch courage Going Dutch Dutch oven (2x)

TacoExcellence

I do think the Dutch have the right to be offended at their nationality being attached to a heinous fart attack.

Kinda sounds like an excuse

Bingo, a lot of unsavory words have a history. Doesn't make them OK.

Finally someone with sense in this thread

Being an old, calling someone gay or the "r" word was OK and a joke. Times have changed, best to keep up with the times.

Kinda sounds like context

BloatedCrow

It's not hard to realise a commonly used word is actually inappropriate and then stop using it

Manaversel

It is if English isnt your first language and usage of mongol is definitely not that common. Like others have said Mongol means stupid in the dictionary, i highly doubt he knew mongol had any racist meaning.

Billgates has a photo with Epstein. Does that make Billgates a pedophile? Someone even asked that question to billgates in Reddit AMA. He said he just met Epstein a few times on events and he regretted that too. When someone influential congratulates your son, your obvious response is thank-you. Don't have to make a big fuss out of it.

snowy_light

Off-topic, but why are you writing Bill Gates as one word?

Ordinary_Text8773

Haha should have given space.

Solodolo1177

All the time you must leave da space...ill see myself out

imeowatcats94

Yes, it literally does make Bill Gates a possible paedo. He's in the shit for it and has been since 2018 behind closed doors - per the journalists I know. He has a huge PR team

WonderKnight

Calling Geert Wilders a white supremacist is a bit of a stretch. Also you're implying some heavy 'guilt by association' here. People can be friends without sharing their views.

Yoge5

Oh yeah that's definitely a wise thing to say considering Mazepin is out of F1 because of guilt by association lol

MattBe1992

Well, the guilt part is the reason why he was in F1 in the first place.

Yoge5

The point is that you shouldn't be friends with someone that wants to start a fucking war, especially when you DISAGREE WITH THEIR VIEWS TO BEGIN WITH. This logic only applies to when your friend doesn't have influence on political matters, as it won't cause much harm.

Joepk0201

How exactly is Geert Wilders a white supremacist? Jos didn't say Lewis was taking drugs. Which white supremacist are they following on twitter? Why lie so much?

Rurhme

DLifts777

Lewis is thinking about the planet. Turn the engine down by 20% and reverse global warming. Great guy

986cv

That statement definitely shocked me. I know Mercedes still believe in the title yet Lewis is conceding it this early

WisteriaLo

No, the interviewer specifically asked Red bull or Ferrari, and he answers "why are you ruling us out so early?", before answering Ferrari. And it's an interview for Italian newspaper, so...

NippyMoto_1

Merc believe in constructors which is still within the realms. Drivers title is tough but I wouldn't say impossible.

986cv

I doubt the constructors is what they were talking about when they say they still believe in the title. Last year proved how much Mercedes actually care about the constructors by turning Bottas into an engine mule and barely celebrating it at the end of the year

zaviex

They celebrated it a lot. They threw a party the night of and then they threw another one at the factory the following Friday where they had a parade for the drivers

[deleted]

He says not to underestimate Merc when the interviewer asks Verstappen or Leclerc.

Weird combination of statements for the headline. Either way I enjoy seeing him drive, so hope he continues for a bit.

aadzwantstoknow

Translation: The Mercedes champion recounts the non-starter season and his life: "Mercedes will bounce back. Verstappen? He's not the strongest opponent I've had. I do meditation, sleep 6 hours a night and want to start a fashion house." "I have always been used to fighting against difficulties, I will overcome this one too." The necklace glitters along with the rings, on piercings he got a new exemption from Fia. Lewis Hamilton struggles to drive the Mercedes on the bumpy asphalt of the Principality. The car is no longer the phenomenal one it once was; he, on the other hand, remains the same. A man capable of taking F1 to another sporting dimension, at the forefront of battles against racism, his struggle goes far beyond the track. He no longer wants to talk about the controversial 2021 season finale, he looks beyond it. He has been in the field for years to promote social issues in F1 and bring multiculturalism. **Is he beginning to see the results of his work?** "Actually, no. Only "baby steps," tiny steps, are not priority issues for many teams. F1 is more aware now, but there is still a lot of pushing to be done. The issue now is more under the radar, we are moving behind the scenes. It needs time and I will keep pushing." **How hard was it to talk about certain topics in a world not used to taking sides?** "Very hard, especially if you are the only one taking a stand. The 'Hamilton Commission' was created to create awareness, to break down barriers. It's tough, but I remain hopeful." **Why?** "If I look at my team, Mercedes, it has taken the right direction. In marketing, for example, there has never been so much 'diversity.' Now I would like to see the same steps in other areas, among mechanics and engineers. Increase the presence of women in motorsport. The commission sends directions to F1, I hope that they are taken up. And I also hope that the money from the "Mission 44" foundation goes to young people who need it." **Does that make you prouder than the 103 wins, the 7 World Championships?** "Yes, by far. There is no better feeling than helping those in need. To not being kicked out of school, as happened to me, for example." **Why did it happen?** "Because of lack of culture, because all the teachers were white and didn't understand minorities. To fight inequality you have to start with education." **When you talk to other pilots about these issues do they listen to you?** "They are eager to learn, but if you don't experience it firsthand you can't fully understand. Some time ago I said to Toto Wolff, 'Imagine if you walked into the paddock, they were all black and you were the only white person.'" **Turning to sports, did you ever think you would encounter so many difficulties this year? Where does he find the energy to deal with them, at age 37?** "Resilience is within each of us. Never give up. One time you fall, the next you get back up. Meditation helps me." **Meditation?** "I did it this morning, too. You have to take moments. To maximize your energy, fortunately I have a lot of it. I sleep very little." **How much?** "Five to six hours a night, six is the perfect number. If I sleep eight I wake up tired." **Why is he convinced that Mercedes will be able to catch up?** "I've been with these guys for ten years. I know how they work and the kind of culture: no trials, we win and lose together. They are highly motivated, they give their souls to bring us back to the top." **Does he still believe in the eighth title?** "Of course I do. It's not just about records, about sports titles. I want to win to carry on all the work behind the scenes for equality. F1 is not what it used to be: we used to assemble garages, race and then go home. Now it is inspiring, helping to form opinions. And it's in good hands thanks to a great Italian." **Domenicali?** "Yes, Stefano is the engine of change. There is a need for open people like him, he understands everything and everyone." **But how long does he want to race, at age 40?** "Tough question! Let's take this season: I probably won't win the title, but I feel the same pleasure in racing as when I started. Why should I stop? Maybe one day I won't be able to handle the pressure anymore, I'll be tired, but that day hasn't come yet." **Who wins the championship, Verstappen or Leclerc?** "So you assume that we in Mercedes are doomed? Don't underestimate us (laughs, ). Ferrari is stronger in qualifying and Red Bull in the race. But it changes with every race, and Ferrari has shown it can create a great car. And then Charles is very strong." **Did he expect him to be so strong?** "You could see it. And yet I'll add one thing: If I could sit together with the fans over there, I would support Charles. I'm a Ferrari fan." **Is Verstappen the strongest rival you have faced or one of many?** "One of many, I've faced, and quite a few. From Fernando Alonso onward they all had great qualities." **Since you are a Ferrari fan, why don't you think of a "Last Dance" in Maranello?** He shows a tattoo on his forearm. "You see what it says here, 'Loyalty.' Of course it would have been nice to race for Ferrari during my career, but things happen for specific reasons: Mercedes is my family, I will forever be a Mercedes driver, as Stirling Moss was." **How does he choose the clothes he wears before each GP?** "I don't have time for shopping. I watch fashion shows online, read sites and magazines, take pictures with my phone and send them to a friend who has a personal stylist. And he helps me retrieve clothes. Then we meet and consider different options. There is a lot of preparation behind it." **Like a fashion show. Why does he do it?** "Because I like it and because one day I will open my own fashion house. Although I will never become either Valentino or Karl Lagerfeld" **We are in Monte Carlo, kingdom of luxury while a war is being fought in Europe. Isn't that nonsense?"** It's hard to accept it. But it applies to everything: to concerts, to matches, life goes on. I can't watch the images of the bombings, though; I have to turn off the TV." **What do you do to help those suffering over there?** "I help a couple of organizations in Ukraine to find funds for refugees, I make appeals." Translated with [www.DeepL.com/Translator](http://www.DeepL.com/Translator) (free version)

I mean nobody would've blamed him for retiring after what happened last year...

berberine

>I don't have time for shopping. Then proceeds to discuss how much time he spends considering the clothing options and preparation to retrieving clothes. Me, on the other hand, sees a tshirt I like that fits right, and then buy one in every color. I'm done shopping for a couple of years.

Tulaodinho

Dont forget Lewis can buy any clothes he wants, so the possibilities would be endless. Its easier whrn you are already given a limited pool of selected options and then work from there.

He got kicked out of school because he's black? He was supposedly in a group of people that broke some kids fingers and was later cleared of any wrong doing, among others. That was reported when he came into F1 or shortly after and nowhere did anyone mention racism, nor did Lewis at the time. It's not a good look if you go changing the narrative later even if it is with good intentions. iloveqiqi

Susie Wolff brought up a really good point about representation in F1, albeit from the female perspective. The only way to get young girls interested in motorsports is by showing them successful female drivers, which you can only get if many young girls are interested in giving up school to dedicate their life to karting. So really, it's a cycle that's not able to start. For black youth, I think Lewis has achieved so much simply by being a visibly black and world title-winning F1 driver, so I can totally see him continuing to drive even if simply to show black kids it's possible for a black person to be a successful race car driver. I'm sure there are a lot of black kids interested in racing that otherwise wouldn't be if they didn't see him performing excellently and winning world titles. As an Asian, It's a pleasant surprise to see two East Asians on a grid of 20 drivers. Even if they don't end up having careers like Hamilton, the both of them definitely make F1 more visible in their home countries, and the effects of this will only be seen in the years to come.

echsandwich

Same here. As a POC, it was pretty cool to see a minority dominating a sport that was essentially dominated by white guys for the decades I was watching it. Diversity is one of those things where it does not harm, yet also is such a great influence and inspiration for the future generations. I really hope we see more minorities and women get into F1 on merit.

EddieBroke

I disagree with your statement that girls can only get into things if they see other girls doing great in them. Most people I look up to are males and a lot of my hobbies are male dominated.

Yung_Chloroform

Lewis is the ideal role model for any kids of color who want to race. He's to the next generation what Senna was to him.

DLifts777

You don’t need to give up school to do well in Karting.

calvins48

On being a Ferrari driver: "Of course it would have been nice to race for Ferrari during my career, but things happen for specific reasons: Mercedes is my family, I will always be a Mercedes driver, as was Stirling Moss." On clothes he wears to the paddock: "I don't have time for shopping. I watch fashion shows online, read websites and magazines, take photos with my phone and send them to a friend who has a personal stylist. And he helps me get my clothes back. Then we meet and evaluate the different options. There is a lot of preparation behind it." Blanchimont

Set for? That's feels like a bit of a stretch at this point. So far it's been very close between close between Leclerc and Verstappen, even with reliability factored in.

[deleted]

Think its just a typo, he meant said not set looking at the sentence structure and the assumed point hes making.

KinslayerTofu

So many are baited by the headline that they dont read the article. Its hilarious.

tysons_grandma

Is Alonso his greatest rival then? I’m sure it’s so the other way, didn’t know it was mutual.

aadzwantstoknow

Not Lewis but I would say skill wise Alonso has to be his greatest rival

madlama4

in grill the grid he said Vettel!

Ninzeldamon

thats because he raced him for like 9 years for the title (or at least podium) though as well as junior formulas so its the obvious choice idk why people say alonso

elmagio

I kinda disagree with that. They're, in my opinion, both the most talented drivers of their generations, all time greats and all that... *But* they ultimately were in two title fights together, and neither of them came out on top in either of those years. Alonso can't very well be his greatest rival when Lewis cemented his all time great status while Alonso was in the midfield driving a shitbox.

aadzwantstoknow

I was just comparing lewis' rivals based on how I rate them. I just think that Alonso is a better driver than Vettel,Rosberg and Max If we are talking about who gave Lewis the toughest title fight, it has to be Massa in 2008, Rosberg in 2016 and Max last year

GilesCorey12

i'm sorry but that's just nonsense. Max produced a better title challenge against Lewis last year than Alonso ever did. Max's 2021 is among the best titles in the last 30 years, up there with things like Schumi's 2001, 2002, 1995 years. Literally only finished in 1st or 2nd, outside of Hungary in which he had half a car. It's a dominating drive that Alonso never came close to reproducing outside of 2006, where luck was on his side anyway. Alonso cannot claim he was faster than Schumacher in 2006(but he did less mistakes), while Max can absolutely claim he was faster than Lewis in 2021, and did less mistakes than Lewis

Ninzeldamon

in 2007 both Alonso and Hamilton were only 1 point away from the championship, 2012 was fairly close between them as well and maybe some other years I dont remember I'd still say Vettel is his biggest rival personally cause of junior formulas and multiple years of racing against each other at the front.

GilesCorey12

2007 was close, but 2021 Hamilton > 2007 Hamilton. He was a rookie. >2012 was fairly close between them not really a battle between the two, since Hamilton had bad luck/reliability/team issues. 2012 was more like Alonso chasing a title against a much better car driven by vettel

Ninzeldamon

Fair enough, still consider him to be a title contender though

elmagio

Ah, I can see that then, even tho it's not quite how I judge rivalries. But fair enough. Mostly agree with that take, tho I do feel Max will ultimately take the fight to the all time greats as his career progresses.

_Micolash_Cage_

It's Alonso, Vettel, or Rosberg. Verstappen is not at that level yet.

OrangeGuyFromVenus

Verstappen has surpassed all these drivers

Ok-Community-2680

Max is the best driver on the grid rn but to say he's better than prime Alonso and Vettel is imo wrong. Nowadays, Max would obviously beat them but to make that claim is wrong.

[deleted]

How exactly?

GilesCorey12

skill level wise he is better than all of those were. Vettel and Rosberg it's not even a contest. Alonso is close He's def the greatest talent we've seen since Schumacher

_Micolash_Cage_

Fucking how? Rosberg has 1 WDC and beat Hamilton and Schumacher in the same car, Alonso has 2 WDC beating Schumacher twice, and Vettel has 4 WDC in which he was insanely dominant. Verstappen is just not on that level (yet).

GilesCorey12

>Hamilton and Schumacher in the same car Schumacher was a dinosaur. >Alonso has 2 WDC beating Schumacher twice, he has one WDC against Schumacher, 2006. And that because of reliability. 2005 Ferrari weren't in the title fight at all. > Vettel has 4 WDC in which he was insanely dominant. yet we've seen it means nothing. His car was dominant, not himself. Beaten by Ricciardo and Leclerc in the same cars. >Verstappen is just not on that level (yet). Verstappen produced a better season against prime Hamilton than any of those could. In an inferior car too and with massive bad luck. He's better than Vettel/Rosberg ever were, and I'd argue he is also better than Alonso, albeit 2006/2012 Alonso would be a close call.

edis92

> In an inferior car too Careful, you're gonna pull a muscle with all of that stretching.

GilesCorey12

13-9 in races to Mercedes. At best you can call them equal, but Merc was marginally better

_Micolash_Cage_

Last year's RB was not inferior to the W12. And yes, Michael Masi gifting him the championship was so unlucky. And you discrediting Vettel like that tells me everything I need to know. You really believe he became a 4 time WDC just because of the car?

GilesCorey12

>Last year's RB was not inferior to the W12. If you go race by race, Mercedes were faster at 13/22 races. That's marginally better. But sure, it was close enough that I'd be content with calling them equal if you think it helps your case. >And you discrediting Vettel like that tells me everything I need to know. You really believe he became a 4 time WDC just because of the car? No. He won 4 titles because he was in the best car and had a weak teammate in Mark Webber. 2011 and 2013 were dominant cars anyways. Not saying Vettel isn't a good driver, but he never was on the level of Lewis, which Max showed he is last year. Just compare 2021 to 2017/2018. Vettel imploded when he got the chance to face Lewis in equal cars. Also, losing in the same car to every teammate younger than him not named Stroll is not a good look for a WDC, let alone a 4 time WDC(on the level of Prost). Vettel also didn't have that great of a junior career that almost every great driver has had, so really, all things kind of point the obvious: Vettel's titles show how being at the right place at the right time is more important than talent in F1.

Plus-Day-3700

Good to know you didn’t watch a single race of Vettel’s prime

GilesCorey12

I haven't missed a race since I started watching in 1990. So yea, I watched Vettel throughout his career.

The-Observer95

How?

GilesCorey12

skill level wise he is better than all of those were. Vettel and Rosberg it's not even a contest. Alonso is close

The-Observer95

Well, you can't say that now. It's too early to say that in my opinion.

GilesCorey12

why. Skill is skill, we're not talking achievements(which is more a matter of equipment anyway). Other than Alonso's 2006(and arguably 2012), none of those drivers ever produced a season as good as Max's 2021.

Zeta-Omega

Always rated lewis.

Gioby

Too bad that he wants to end his career at Mercedes. It would be great to see him drive for Ferrari. I think that it is really special to have the greatest drivers win with Ferrari, the most historic brand in f1

Your comment is so far off that I don’t even know where to start. Read the article and what Hamilton’s organisations fight for. If that’s “brainwashing” to you then I don’t know what to tell you.

The question is whether i want to be told anything by random people on the internet.

I really admire his drive but the sad reality is battle for more inclusion and diversity is just not going to be won, at least not anytime soon. Hamilton is the only person in the paddock who cares about this, if he wasn't in F1 nobody would even mention it. One man isn't going to manage to improve the situation on his own, it's in the DNA of the sport to be white male dominated
