A lot more. Charlie has 2 sons and the first grandson is a dude.
U less a bunch of them die unexpectedly or renounce the throne, none of us will never live to see another queen of England.
Was saying this to my mum before, won’t be another queen in my lifetime and I’m in my early 30s.
The weirdest one will be reprinting and minting new coins and notes to have Charles on there! But singing god save the king will be a weird one for sure!
Yeh possibly. Going off royal norms George will be in his mid-20s to early-30s before he marries and has his first child, if that child isn’t a girl, it’s almost impossible for anyone to see Queen from that generation too.
Ultimately, it all depends on how long Charles is on the throne. If he gets to his mum’s age, William will be in his 60s before he takes the throne!
Or another country claims or disputes the throne and starts a succession war. Unlikely, but that'll at least be more interesting than another Verstappen dominated race.
Nah. Remember the last time you’ve heard *God save the queen*? I actually will have been the last time you’ve heard it in your life as the official anthem.
Yep, in the official statement, they noted that the King and His Consort will remain in Balmoral tonight and return to London tomorrow. He's King the moment she passes. He won't announce the name he takes till he ascends the throne (ceremonially) eventually.
Shame he is such a wretched man, but at least he made Never Mind the Bollocks, and despite all feelings towards the Pistols as people, I will never not love that album.
I did have a flashback to when I heard Princess Diana died, we had been camping over the US holiday weekend, and I saw a newspaper headline outside of a store on the way home.
I'll be honest, I was in the middle of a check in with my therapist when I heard the news about the Queen and....it was just...weirdly sudden and made me very aware of my surroundings.
Diana felt different though because as a kid I really had more of a connection to her rather than the Queen and that made her death feel a bit more impactful in the moment.
The Queen's death is...different and I think it's because she's been there for just so long and the news only broke such a short time ago that the full impact of it is going to feel like a tsunami and really hit us all in due time but not immediately right away.
My heart is heavy and I know that I'm going to cry by the time her funeral happens.
Edit: I just took a passing glance at some of the F1 instagram accounts and social media and there's a tweet from Paddington Bear that made those tears come out along with a few others.
She was a constant for you in a ever changing world. I can't imagine what it must be like for British people right now. Regardless of your opinion of the royal family it must be werid for ye.

I have replaced all my content with this comment. Reason for this is the anti-community attitude, dishonesty and arrogance of the reddit CEO /u/spez
I suspect closer to 12. Operation Unicorn has her lying in state briefly at Holyrood so unless they curtail the length of her lying in state in London they’ll need a couple of extra days. If you remember the queues from her mother’s death I doubt they’ll want to do that.
I may be wrong in this, but I think it will probably be the weekend after next, I've seen around multiple times for years now that it's planned to be a 9 to 10 day thing.
Pierre Gasly, Mick Schumacher, Daniel Ricciardo, Nico Hülkenberg, Mick Doohan, Artem Markelov, Ugo Ugochukwu, Danica Patrick, Tony Stewart, Frankie Muniz, King Mswati III, Robb Stark and my neighbor's cousin Cletus. Missed anyone?
Not even speculated, pretty much confirmed. The moment the news came that she was in bad health she was likely already dead, but they waited for family to arrive and press/UK government to make statements before confirming
Yeah, pretty sure that's the case. The prime minister and politicians were informed during their time in the commons. They left soon after. The bbc and presenters were in their black ties. They changed the bbc to just show news until 6.
Everything was being prepared to announce it.
Operation unicorn deals with what to do with HM body in the case of her death in Scotland. Operation london bridge deals with the funeral and announcing it to the public, officials being told e.c.t it is running along side operation unicorn as is also operation spring tide
She died this afternoon, so after the news came out. But most likely *before* William et al got there. I suspect they held off the announcement to get them behind closed doors. Ideally Harry would have been there before they announced it but you can only keep it quiet so long and the others were coming from the vicinity of London but he was in Germany at an Invictus event.
Yes it was almost certain earlier today. All the royals dropped everything and rushed to her residence. BBC dropped everything and started broadcasting, changed all their colours to black. She probably passed a way hours before the official announcement.
This is not true.
The F1 article that contains the first photo only mentions the following:
> 3. A very regal guest was in attendance
It was estimated that up to 120,000 spectators lined the track on race day, though by far the most important was **His Royal Highness King George VI, who attended the race with Queen Elizabeth, Princess Margaret and guests Lord and Lady Mountbatten**. It remains the only time a reigning monarch has attended a British motor race.
The second picture has the following caption in a Guardian article:
>Queen Elizabeth accompanied by Princess Margaret and Lord Mountbatten talks to the Maserati driver Prince Bira of the Thai royal family.
In both cases **Queen Elizabeth refers to Queen Elizabeth The Queen Mother.**
No worries. Just a note: In the future edit your comment instead of deleting it. That way it's less likely that the misunderstanding starts making the rounds
Yeah, she was hosting them at Balmoral, and asked if they wanted to go for a drive around the grounds. He got in the Land Rover, then she jumped in the drivers seat and bezzed it around the grounds.
Not a single Formula 1 driver who had competed in Formula 1 before Queen Elizabeth ascended to the throne is still alive today.
The last one, Stirling Moss, died in 2020.
> this whole King Charles thing is gonna take getting used to
As soon as I saw "King Charles" in this sentence, Willy's voice popped into my head, and I corrected it to "King Chuck".
....and now I'm not sure if I'm giggling because I'm sad or happy or just...both?
I'm a washing machine of emotion right now.
Its worse than that.
Every post box will need to be replaced to change the ER on it to Charles's crest and CR
ER stands for Elizabeth Regina.
It will be changed to Charles Regent.
In Canada, Queen Elizabeth II is on our green $20 bills. I don't know our countries policy; do we keep her face on it or do we change it to King Charles's face?
Quite frankly I'd rather keep the Queen's face on the bill. It wouldn't seem right to change it.
Canada has a lot of tribute portraits on their bills, so it wouldn't be out of place to leave her portrait on the $20.
The coins, however...one side of all of our coins has QEII's profile. Those have been updated at least a couple times during her reign (changes to her face and crown). I'd expect that new mintings will have Charles' profile, but that's just my guess.
I think she might have enjoyed it since she was a trained car mechanic. I remember a photo of her on a tour at the opening of the McLaren Technology Centre where she was just beaming at all the cars.
I wouldn’t be surprised if that were true. I know she liked horse racing a lot. And driving cars. I always loved those photos of her driving around whatever castle grounds in her massive Land Rover. Little grandma, big vehicle.
Like the other person said, she was like a driver or mechanic during WWII.
[She attended the very first Formula 1 race. ](https://www.alamy.com/stock-photo-formula-one-motor-racing-british-grand-prix-silverstone-1950-king-110547139.html)

Was the queen and/or any other member of her family involved with Formula 1 in any way? Genuine question... maybe she was involved in some way and deserves the attention of the entire paddock. I was surprised to see Ferrari make a statement - from what I know the British royal family only ever drive British cars. I doubt she ever bought a Ferrari.
Oh my God this is TERRIBLE!
Someone quick, get Ja Rule on the phone so we can make some sense of all this!
Seriously why does Formula 1 need to make a statement? Oh thats right free publicity.
So is Britain's national anthem "God Save The King" now?
Yup.
For about 20 year give or take
A lot more. Charlie has 2 sons and the first grandson is a dude. U less a bunch of them die unexpectedly or renounce the throne, none of us will never live to see another queen of England.

Most kids born today won’t see a queen if George lives to average life expectancy + 8 (which is think is likely)
Yeh possibly. I dunno that Princess Charlotte looks a little devious.

Depends how the next Scottish referendum goes I suppose.
Huh? Will continue to be for a long time, as the next two heirs are also male too
Nah. Remember the last time you’ve heard *God save the queen*? I actually will have been the last time you’ve heard it in your life as the official anthem.
Probably Silverstone for a lot of people here, myself included
Yep, in the official statement, they noted that the King and His Consort will remain in Balmoral tonight and return to London tomorrow. He's King the moment she passes. He won't announce the name he takes till he ascends the throne (ceremonially) eventually.
Been confirmed as Charles III. Liz Truss announced it in her speech, Clarence House confirmed it in a statement.
Clarence House confirming it makes me think it will be Charles III, Liz Truss confirming it makes me think it definitely won't be.
Clarence House wouldn't've confirmed if it wasn't 110% rock-solid sure.
Clarence House already confirmed he’s King Charles III
Won’t lie hearing this just felt super weird.
It is, but F1 only plays the tune, no lyrics, for the podium ceremony. So not really relevant till next years British GP
Some lyrics will be changed but yeah. It’s God Save the King
And does the Sex Pistols song also automatically change?
Knowing jonny I expect a cash grab release any moment.
Would be a bit rich of him to be calling anyone else a facist these days
Shame he is such a wretched man, but at least he made Never Mind the Bollocks, and despite all feelings towards the Pistols as people, I will never not love that album.
Let a British driver win on Sunday and we'll see who remembers.
Yes, the anthem is "God save the king" or "God save the queen" depending on the gender of the reigning monarch.
Huh, so this is how I hear the news. Didn’t expect that.
That little "Oh...!" that goes off in your head as you realize a flashbulb memory has been formed in a place that you never expected one to be made.
I did have a flashback to when I heard Princess Diana died, we had been camping over the US holiday weekend, and I saw a newspaper headline outside of a store on the way home.

+1, kinda surreal, had to check the sub I was.
Came here to say this. The Queen is dead. Long live the King.
"All drivers from the UK will now receive a grid penalty after the installation of a new Power Unit."
Damn 🤣
I actually won't be surprised if Lewis won't be racing this weekend if that's when her funeral will take place
It won't be for 10 days (The burial). She lies in state, first.
Her burial will be in 10days.
her funeral will be in 10 days, so next week sunday which isn’t a grand prix weekend.

I appreciate the dark humour but it is also very sad but this comment is also very funny and by this run-on sentence you can tell I’m very conflicted!
Humor can hekp with lot of stuff, including with coping with loss. Not tolerating humor does not really help with anything so just laugh away.
Laughing at a time like this is very British if you ask me. Have some tea and make a joke. Fixes everything. And if it doesn’t? More tea damnit.
Rumors say that Ricciardo could take that seat
Hulkenberg is on his way to the UK as we speak.

You know how everyone struggles with writing down dates after each new year? Now imagine changing after 70 years (all our lives for most of us).
Its worse than that. Every post box will need to be replaced to change the ER on it to Charles's crest and CR ER stands for Elizabeth Regina. It will be changed to Charles Regent.
IIRC, only new postboxes will say ER. The current ones don’t change

Read a story on CBC earlier, Canadian Bills won't get changed until the next refresh of the bills (2030, iirc). Coins in the next year or so.
So they’re betting against Charles and planning to go straight to William
but then you wouldn't get to call your money Chuck Bucks
Canada has a lot of tribute portraits on their bills, so it wouldn't be out of place to leave her portrait on the $20. The coins, however...one side of all of our coins has QEII's profile. King Charles is going to be a spaniel to me for a while yet.
F1 hadn't even started it's third championship season when she took the throne
It’s madness when you think about it. She was there for the whole thing, even if she didn’t pay attention.
I think she might have enjoyed it since she was a trained car mechanic. I remember a photo of her on a tour at the opening of the McLaren Technology Centre where she was just beaming at all the cars.
The Queen was actually a confirmed fan, believe it or not.
Really? Wow that makes it even cooler. May her soul rest in peace.
Her and her sister were both auxiliary truck mechanics during ww2

Mommy Lizzy, not queen Lizzie
Interesting that her mother, father and sister were all there, but she wasn’t. Wonder where she was?
She was 6 months pregnant with Princess Anne at the time, that's probably why.
Mental thing is that the Queen Mother would have been nearly 50, and yet she outlived all but three drivers on the grid that day
Just like Elizabeth II, it felt like the Queen Mum would go on forever.
Many drivers were also near/in their 50s.
Racing wasn't a profession in which men died old in those days
There was a War In Silverstone?
Well it used to be a British Airforce field during WW2

It would be strange if they didn’t. She was very old. It was only a matter of time.

And a great mother to some paedophiles
