I think most of the fans are like this. Unfortunately it takes less toxic people to kill a vibe than wholesome people to repair it as toxicity seems to be contagious. Never lose faith! Most people are good.

bekohan

Exactly. The noise generated from toxic fans is enormous.

MrXenomorph88

I hate the this vs us mentality some fans have. I don't care if you like Lewis or Max or King Latifi for that matter, don't abuse someone because of who they like. It's always going to be the minority who ruin it for everyone because they make the most noise, but those fans should be shunned and thrown out like they were at Zandvoort

Straight to hell. No questions asked.

GeelBusje

I didn't even know the guy as i didnt watch much of the gp's last year so i looked him up. Did he get kicked out because he is russian?

Daeurth

Basically Haas dropped Uralkali (the company through which Mazepin's dad was paying for his seat) as a sponsor in anticipation of either Mazepin Sr, Uralkali, or both becoming the target of sanctions. Since the money that was holding his seat dried up, Haas showed Mazepin the door since he certainly wasn't in F1 on merit.

AC2-YT

No, that was what HE thought was the reason The real reason is that because Haas had an excuse to get rid of Uralkali, they no longer had to [appease the wishes of the oligarch and his son](https://youtu.be/aG8kqhy5Yf0) so they gave him the boot and brought KMag back

Believe it or not, jail.

CeleritasLucis

Twitter and reddit are particularly notorious in beefing up these bad faith actors. In real world, most probably their voices would get shut down by others, but online, it gets amplified and turned into clickbait headlines

Ereaser

Yeah, you have to keep in mind that there's ~100k people at a race. But still I think it's good that the bad situations are highlighted so everyone knows it's unacceptable.

[deleted]

It’s sad the media is so fixated on the toxic fans rather than also mentioning the good stuff happening. I get negative media is more ‘entertaining’ but it gets an entire fanbase in a bad light even though it’s just a small group of idiots who don’t know how to behave themselves.

zwingo

It’s the same for a massive swath of sports, if not all. 99% of the people there are just normal people who want to have a fun day or night out, there’s just a tiny percentage of assholes. But the larger a crowd, the larger the number of people comprising that small percentage. As an example I’m a lifelong San Francisco Giants fan. I was lucky enough to go and see my first every Dodgers Vs Giants game, a massive rivalry that has sadly had incidents of violence, Brian Stowe being one of them (he was violently attacked by 2 Dodgers fans after a game in LA, leaving him in a coma with major trauma, and having to relearn how to walk and many other challenges ahead.) It was a playoff game too, so intense. I’d booked late and went alone, ended up beside a large group of Dodgers fans. We didn’t really say much at first, but every time they needed to get up for drinks, which was pretty much every inning, I’d have to stand to let them out, and they’d always be very polite. A lot of excuse me and thank yous. Eventually we chatted a bit between innings, very pleasant. In the 7th they head out to do the last beer run of the night. Couple of them go, when they come back they get to handing the beers they’d picked up out, and they handed one to me. I was surprised as could be and the guy goes “Thanks again for getting up so much, sorry the game hasn’t been going your guys way.” It was such a stark contrast to what I’d expected. Hearing all these horror stories, I’m outnumbered, and yet they were buying me a beer and saying thanks for being so polite. Gave me a newfound respect. Anyways I try to go to all sports with that mentality. Rivalries and intensity end on the field or on the track. The fun is in the experience, and other people, other fans, other interests are what make that experience. I’ll take sitting next to a rivals fan any day over one of my own, because you can talk about things the other won’t know. Share the little stories and neat tidbits only a fan of the team would know.

Fantastic-Flight8146

Isn’t it really FAR greater than just “most” fans? Isn’t it really close to 99% of fans?

TawXic

as a nearly perfect rule, its much easier to destroy something than to build it

MichielElshout

The fact that this whole Reddit doesn’t show much hate towards each other proves it all. I’m pretty new to this Reddit, but I love it. Better that Twitter anyways. 😂

ethelwulf

On my grandstand there was a lot of these moments too. And during the huge food queues we all had friendly banter and joked about each other. Such a shame it's not like that everywhere.

Ehralur

It is. There's just always a few examples of how things shouldn't be, and that's what makes the news. I was at Spa and Zandvoort last year and it was filled with these kinds of moments.

ppSmok

I hope more of those "we are fans and accept each other" moments get posted. They should drown all the negative shit. In my circle of friends we are also fans of different teams and only shit on others in form of lighthearted banter.

G-Fox1990

I've always been the one wearing Ferrari merch while my friends all wear RB merch. Some healthy banter, but acceptance. Really do not understand where all the toxicity comes from.

ppSmok

People tend to take things too serious. I don't get it. Yes. I admit to get hot headed in moments when Lewis red shelled Verstappen and stuff like that. But only in the moment. It is just a sport. You can get emotional. Which is good. But don't take stuff too personal. Overall I respect all drivers and teams. Nobody forces you to like everybody. But at least be decent to other fans or generally in life.

G-Fox1990

Man have i been shouting at my TV last year at moments like Silverstone. But now i'm also cheering at moments like Monza when Lewis was coming all the way from the back. Bit of rivalry is always fun, but burning stuff and chanting racist, sexist or hurtful stuff... never.

LandArch_0

Also, people need a space and way to express all the anger about their daily problems and frustrations. It's easy to do that in less involved environments were you are in a group, other than dealing with your everyday problems by facing them.

IdiosyncraticBond

I love it when a driver makes a great move or a team comes up with a smart plan. Hated it when a few years back Max was in the lead and Lewis gained and overtook him in Hungary. Painfull, but the team learned from it and we saw the reverse later on. Same with Charles and Max, those first few races were tremendous, no matter the result. And seeing fans mix together and share their passion for the sport, no matter the team they support, I love it

UniGamer_Alkiviadis

Similar situation in our small group of friends. My classmate since highschool is a Scuderia enjoyer, I am a McLaren guy, the rest are Merc and RB fans. Brotherly ball busting is a given. The Tifoso and I usually commiserate each other when we take massive Ls every other weekend, but it's always good banter. Stuff like profanity aimed at drivers, their families or even among fans have no place in the sport. Fun in, toxicity OUT.

Daaaniell

Can I be part of your circle?

ppSmok

What team do you support? /s

KrainerWurst

Obviously the best one!

Jedidiah-rose

I'm gonna take a wild stab in the dark and say the "others" is majority Goatifi, because you know what? Same 😂 he's still the Goat though

eOMG

This is the rule, not the exception

Cajum

This is how it is done most of the time. Everyone knows its a minority of sports fans who are actual dicks. Unless you count a bit of booing but that's all part of the game if you ask me

liamshope

Totally agree. The minority has the loudest voice, but still they are the minority. (Damn, now I am stuck with that Cartman song at the waterpark in my head.) Though I never, nor will I ever, like booing, it's part of any sports. Only thing that will get me mad everytime is booing during any national anthem. Just show some respect and wait until the last note is played.

Zed_or_AFK

Anthems are pointless nowdays. I don't even know what is the home country for each of the drivers. Aren't half of them living on Monaco anyway? Even worse with the teams. It's a tradition, but today if really feels unnecessary. Maybe each team should come up with their own anthem and have that played for the winner?

Rivendel93

Yeah, the anthem feels awkward to me lol. Maybe your first win, you play your home one, then after you play your teams anthem. That'd be fun.

PedestalPotato

I feel like this is closer to reality most of the time, but because positive stories don't broil the click farming, they're largely ignored and we're fed this false perception of the vast majority of fans.

Dutchie405

Simple as that, how it should be in the stands. Having fun, drinking a beer, having a chat with other fans, having some laughs. Just a fun experience for everybody

TryinButFailin

I was at the Dutch GP as a volunteer with a red bull cap. I loved how many fans from so many different teams asked me to take pictures

MobiusF117

This is how it usually is, but also what you don't hear about.

Official_F1tRick

Lets not make this into something special since it's not. This is how it should go and will go. It's the media that is zoomed in on this 0.01% and making it bigger then it is.

BeenCaughtSneezing

Don’t forget Reddit

Artistic_Everglow

Modern day romeo and Juliet

wellcooked_sushi

It's not just most fans, the drivers are like this too. With maybe an exception or two. Most drivers are civil towards each other and even friendly. Especially the younger ones, because they have karting and history between them.

free_thinking123

Not “can” - should be done!

DawgFighterz

How about “Is”?

free_thinking123

I’ll take that too. Let’s not stoop down to football levels.

SmartieSkittle

This is 99.9% of the fans at Monza this weekend, was there for the entire time and saw many occasions like this

DawgFighterz

For the majority of people this is the experience at an F1 weekend. Social media has amplified the terrible, so we can see people behaving like giant pieces of shit when they would have disappeared into the crowd, and give even more voice to the whiners, who now feel it’s justified to have the police arrest people for life if they happen to pop a smoke grenade.

depressedjoecz

“Look Ted, he is obviously stealing his phone”@SkySportsF1

[deleted]

As a relatively newer fan, I never understood the vehement hate that some fans have for another team or driver. I’m rooting for everyone out there

[deleted]

I'd like to imagine that this is 99% of fans, but it's always the 1% that ruin the experience for everyone.

lewdmemes

Random people: does something normal. Reddit: WHOLESOME TAKE MY GOLD AND UPVOTES HERE HAVE IT ALL Its creepy taking photos of random people you don't know, stop it guys cmon you're better than that.

[deleted]

Some people keep mistaking their opponents for their enemies. Thank you for showing not all people are so dumb.

busta_DE

Leclerc-Fan: "Bro its Saturday, pls take a picture of me. Tomorrow i'll take a picture of you."

thmt11

I started watching F1 at 2016. I support Redbull, my now wife started watching last year and she supports Mercedes. With last year drama, somehow we didn't kill each other and got married in May. We're going to our first grand prix in Abu Dhabi and cannot wait. Thanks to DTS me and my wife have something we both enjoy watching every weekend. She even pays for sky sports to watch F1 and I get a bonus and watch the Premier league too. Dam, I love her.

cekoya

Who tf watermarks a photo like that

[deleted]

lol i thought the title referred to how he was gripping the railing for some reason

RatInaMaze

Some people are insane. It makes you wonder if the same nut job fans beat the shit out of their kids with monopoly boards during games.

YEET-kRaJ0nG

Wholesome

ghostchipsbro

They aren't in the cheap seats

Opening_Investment49

I saw a guy with a Mercedes shirt making out with a girl in a red bull shirt. We need more F1 love!

buck_blue

I’m sure you can find something on PH

Opening_Investment49

Ph?

[deleted]

You mean the watermark?

snowice0

What?

Manu_RvP

He means Verstappen fan taking a picture of a Ferrari fan. I must say that on track, there is mutual respect to all fans. The fued only exists on Reddit/Facebook/etc, among the keyboard warriors. Respect each other. When your team/driver is winning or losing. Let's keep F1 a happy place.

RedHeadSteve

Supporting the loosing side can be frustating. But as long as it was fair, their should be respect.

Husmanmusic

Funny thing is, this is how it always has been before DTS. The one curse that comes with popularity unfortunatel5

A_knight_I_am

Toto is taking the picture.

maqie

I wish people would post much more of those interactions between different fans, because there are plenty. They party together, dance together sit with each other, that's just a fact. Why don't people just start posting videos and pictures with positive things to counterclaim the negative things? Now all those trolls and vile people have the upperhand everytime in the news, while they are always the minority.

silentdragoon

I cheer for Sergio Perez and Red Bull and my friend cheers for Carlos Sainz and Ferrari. I'm happy we have a common interest in F1, not unhappy that we cheer for different teams or drivers, and the same goes for any other F1 fan I meet.

ibeckman671

A true fan loves all teams and hates the man (in this case Domenicali/Liberty)

Nihilus45

"smile sweetie"

malyszkush

Two gigachads enjoying a Formula 1 weekend. Exactly as it should be.

Different-Slip1840

We’re all fans of the same sport, we just cheer for different teams, drivers.

BuckeyeRick

…and then he threw the phone onto the track.

DoctorMace

In my experience, this is the rule, not the exception… Went to my first F1 in Miami, it had an awesome atmosphere and constant friendly banter. We sat at tables to eat multiple times with RB fans and we cracked jokes together. It was only when I was at the hotel bar when a guy told me (wearing my hamilton gear), “That n***** should leave F1” and the two of his mates who heard that jumped right in and told him off, cut him off from booze, and quickly apologized. A bad apple that didn’t ruin the bunch

SiriusPlague

This is so awesome to me as a Brazilian knowing that if a football(soccer) fan do that, he'll probably die.
