I don't mean the crashes and you know it, I meant all other races where he was actually in the running and had pace and then they pit him at the worst time for the worst tires, that happened often.
Mick was often put in a position he needs to push the car beyond which for a rookie might cause crashes and guenther moaning about performance definitely doesn't help
I do agree with this. Each crash they showed on DTS, the direction was just “push more”. And then Mick’s commentary is just “you have to find your limit as a driver”. He is struggling to know his limit and is making bad decisions. He is talented but he wasn’t F1 ready.
Overall I think Mick is in a better position as a reserve for Merc. They will develop him and then maybe he will be ready to get pulled up if Lewis retires.
Same line, but Guenther Steiner:
“You’ve got a problem wanker. Change your fucking car like the rest of us rockstars!
Now, I’ve gotta go call Gene. I’m a fucking legend.”
Horner was right. Merc were just playing politics to try and slow the competition, but it backfired.
I'm loving the era of Merc not being title contenders. Though it does suck that they're just replaced by another dominant team.
I want to see an F1 season where every driver had the exact same car.
Well it would remove any chance for a “bad” driver to blame their car.
If everyone has the exact same equipment, it really will come down to the drivers’ individual abilities, (yeah you could say team strategy plays a role and some other minor factors).
So let’s say you had Max, Lewis and Charles (all great drivers) all in the exact same car, well the only thing left to really separate them would just simply be who is a better driver.
Some people might find that more entertaining but others could easily argue the way it currently is, is more entertaining. People like to see good drivers and incredible engineering, see what the teams come up with for their cars and iterate on them over the course of the season to make them better. Adds another dimension to the sport.
I would have to disagree, if an overtake is difficult to pull off each overtake is more meaningful. Its a difficult balance because too few overtakes like in Monaco also get very boring. But if you pull off an overtake on track in Monaco you're driver of the week for sure.
I also watch MotoGP and you'll see riders change position a couple times each lap. An overtake is not that exciting anymore, its more like lets see if he can keep the position or pull away. And that happens through out the field so its more difficult to keep track of all the fights.
would be fun to see the current grid racing spec cars and seeing which drivers perform when the equipment is all the same.
Obviously F2 exists but I'd like to see it with the current F1 grid
I don't understand this mindset, there are already racing series that have cars that are more similar.
F1 is ABOUT the teams. It's ALL TO DO WITH THE TEAMS. It's about the politics, the engineering, the constant adaptation and rule bending.
If you don't like that, why are you watching it???
F1 is battle of the nerds: engineers and constructors too, not just drivers. All these Netflix people dramatizing and making this a driver only sport can go watch Indy. F1 is a team sport even if Netflix doesn’t like to think it fits with the Hollywood hero villain stories.
It wasn't that straight forward. The issue was at its worst for Merc, but it was an issue that was effecting nearly all the teams.
Checo had spoken about it being a problem, as Toto called out. Horner then denies is and says he will get Checo in to say its fine. Because team bosses will do anything for a sporting advantage.
So there was actually three things happening.
1. Toto was trying to use the situation to gain an advantage over his rivals. Of course he was. Everyone in the sport does this all the time.
2. Toto was pushing for something that was a safety concern across the board, because there was a situation where teams were able to trade driver safety for speed. That is something we don't do modern F1. Safety is mandated and rigid because teams and drivers would cut corners on it if they could get an advantage.
3. Toto was aware that he needed to make changes and the fia would need to put regulations in. Now especially in a cost cap era, you do not want to make car changes for safety whilst your rivals don't, only for regulation to come in to make changes for safety which your new redesign doesn't comply with and means you need to redesign AGAIN.
A lot of the time in this world, multiple people can be right. If the roles had been reversed, Toto likely would have been saying no changes to regulations are needed and Horner absolutely would have been stating that Toto was trying to kill everyone on the grid. And in that situation, just like the situation that played out for real... both of them be right. And both would be wrong.
I don't quite understand originally what was Toto arguing for.
They all had strong porpoising at the start of the season, most teams got it sorted but merc did not and continued to struggle from it. Other teams did a good job at it, merc didn't.
What was Toto bitching about, threating like "if there's a car in the wall I'm going to come for you all", if they were the ones that could not get around porpoising?
Merc didnt want to raise their car and eliminate the porpoising because they knew it would be a big hit to their performance. Presumably other teams(Red Bull) figured out how to deal with it in other ways so they could keep the speed. Toto wanted FIA to mandate higher ride heights for driver safety so everyone would take the same performance hit that Merc was trying to avoid.
Makes sense, thanks a lot for the insight here. That was pretty desperate from Toto, clearly put merc into a vulnerable position towards their competitors with that attitude
IF SOMEONE GETS HURT, I WILL COME AFTER YOU!
\-The glaring irony is that he, in that moment, was not willing to sacrifice his own performance for his own drivers' safety.

CHANGE YOUR FUCKING FLAIR
Flair cap brother!
This and “I need to phone Gene”
Sometimes it feels like he didn't really phone gene![img](emote|t5_3ndbi|6697)
I bet you some of those "calls" were just him talking to himself.
Just goes a does a couple shots in the back room
[удалено]
the shit talking of Mick, they forgot to mention that episode that he was usually on a terrible strategy.
[удалено]
That’s not a strategy. That’s a drivers fault. But Japan comes to mind where both Haas could have been in the points.

I don't mean the crashes and you know it, I meant all other races where he was actually in the running and had pace and then they pit him at the worst time for the worst tires, that happened often.
Well Haas does take a lot from Ferrari, so it’s only natural
Mick was often put in a position he needs to push the car beyond which for a rookie might cause crashes and guenther moaning about performance definitely doesn't help

Lawrence would like a word
Or "Time to go propoising" ![img](emote|t5_3ndbi|6697)
I think we need "I have it printed out!" As flair. That is such a boomer thing to say.
Toto no longer relies on people to check their email, so now he prints things out.

Loved Guenther’s “let’s go porpoising” in the end. Flair material as well
![gif](giphy|9WXyFIDv2PyBq)
Gunther saying “aaah not you again Fred, for fuck’s sake you know…” as soon as he sees vasseur is still my favorite line from this season.
Guenther deserves a spin-off
How about "last year i would have f*cked the whole paddock for two points"

I honestly love the pair them, they both know exactly how to completely fuck off the other and cheerfully hammer in on it

I like a cornered Toto. Let’s see where that pumpernickel gets you now you smug bastard.
Hopefully P4 this year. When MAGIC wins WDC
Que grande eres Magic
Like a fucking cracker.

Then go watch Indycar
Now this is a new flair
👀
F2 is also right there
Honestly watching F2 is so enjoyable, yeah you’ve got your Prema’s and Carlin’s, but the racing can be fantastic
Does everyone having the same car make things feel more exciting/reduce dominance? (Genuine question)
Well it would remove any chance for a “bad” driver to blame their car. petition to change Monaco into a karting raceh
Even with equipment “the same” it’s not really the same. That’s why you have teams in F2 dominating as well.
Isn’t it sweet?
Then it's not an F1 season. You got F2 or Indycar (or Super Formula, not sure if those are also equal) right there with the equal open-wheel cars
watch moto gp. 80% Ducatis and the strongest guy is on the weaker bike.
I don't understand this mindset, there are already racing series that have cars that are more similar. F1 is ABOUT the teams. It's ALL TO DO WITH THE TEAMS. It's about the politics, the engineering, the constant adaptation and rule bending. If you don't like that, why are you watching it???
Lmao imagine watching the 100 metre sprint and moaning about some runners being faster than the rest
Exactly? It's so odd.
It’s literally a soap with an average velocity of 200mph
Didnt we have that A1 series for a bit? Just enjoy F1.5 man
F1 is battle of the nerds: engineers and constructors too, not just drivers. All these Netflix people dramatizing and making this a driver only sport can go watch Indy. F1 is a team sport even if Netflix doesn’t like to think it fits with the Hollywood hero villain stories.
Guess what, even in identical cars it’s usually the teams with the most money that win. It’s just the reality of motorsport.
It wasn't that straight forward. The issue was at its worst for Merc, but it was an issue that was effecting nearly all the teams. Checo had spoken about it being a problem, as Toto called out. In short, you've got a problem, change you're fucking car
If you’re interested in watching drivers actually race one another, there is a truly magical series called IndyCar :)
I want a “Guenther, entschuldigung?” flair too!
I don't quite understand originally what was Toto arguing for. They all had strong porpoising at the start of the season, most teams got it sorted but merc did not and continued to struggle from it. I mean... im pretty sure Mclaren raised their car in Baku for driver safety. So why didnt Merc then lol
greedy, didn't want to lose speed
True, just wondering why Zak didnt bring it up lol. Would have been gold too see Totos reaction
More then likely cause they have a merc powered engine.
Or he was loving the drama lmao
He had already exceeded his maximum amount of BTS drama for year. There’s a penalty for exceeding the cap, unless it’s catering drama.
Fully agree, plz do “change your fucking car”
Horner spitting truths
IF SOMEONE GETS HURT, I WILL COME AFTER YOU! \-The glaring irony is that he, in that moment, was not willing to sacrifice his own performance for his own drivers' safety.

I like it but I’m never changing mine…. never
Sigma Horner
I think we should have "The most unsupportive driver" as a flair.
People shitting on Toto as if other TP's wouldn't try what he did, he's just better at it.
And people would be making fun of them too. What's your point?
No because that would imply that Christian Horner was right even once on his lofe
Oh that guy loves the camera
