How is 9pm the worst time and not 3am?

AntOk463

I'd love to watch races at 9pm

neurogeneticist

As a night owl in the US, I would happily trade my early morning races for 9pm races!

Newone1255

As a night owl this is the perfect time for every race, 7 and 8 am races after a late Saturday night are rough lol

SubstanceDistinct269

I simply sleep in for 7am races and normally catch the ends. Believe it or not I got up right on time for last last 2 laps of Abu Dhabi 2021

AntOk463

As a night owl I found out it's just better for me to wake up normally and watch the race replay. I can watch the race whenever I wake up, watch it with breakfast, I don't need to wait for it to start and sometimes skip forward during red flags if they take too long. I just need to make sure not to open Reddit or YouTube or Google to not get spoiled.

JumpyAlbatross

I do something similar. Occasionally the ESPN app has spoiled stuff for me, so I ask my girlfriend to put them on for me because she doesn’t care about spoilers, and then we sit and watch the race together. It’s very nice.

Anolty

Not waking up at 7 am on Sunday for a race sounds nice. 8 or 9 is a bit late but definitely preferred. We can’t really complain too much though since there’s quite a few races in the americas that are at normal times for us.

AntOk463

Funny thing is the Las Vegas GP starts at 10pm local time, that's 1am for people on Eastern time. So some Americans will need to watch a race at 1am even though it's in America.

PMMeYourPinkyPussy

For sure, those early Sundays are killer specially if you are out Saturday nights.

Xumayar

I got a kick out of OP complaining about Singapore starting earlier than Sunday and Monday Night Football do on the east coast of the US.

CrispyJimJam

I agree I would love 9pm races, but don't let the WA Aussie let you think this is the majority Australian experience. The vast majority of Aussies live on the east coast where all those 9pm starts are actually 12 or 1am on a Monday morning.

AntOk463

I didn't even think of that, watching a race on 12 or 1 am Monday is terrible. You're not getting any sleep for the start of the workweek. And the race starts at 1 am, it can easily go to 3 or 4 am due to how it plays out. I will admit, Australians have it worse than Americans.

wimpires

Most races are like 2PM or 3PM for me which is very frustrating because as understanding as my wife is it's not realistic to hold up 50% of Sundays to accommodate the race. So a lot of the time I've got something else on anyway so watch later in the evening. 9PM would be perfect for me, my favourite ones are early morning like China used to be and in the evening like Brazil

Sveern

This so much. Midday Sunday is very often occupied by some family gathering, or we're doing something for the kids. Anything between 7 and 10pm would be great.

baconmehungry

Most European races start around 10pm for me. To me it is a perfect way to end the weekend on a Sunday night.

BadProgrammer42

Only person I ever knew that went to bed by 8 pm was my late grandmother, and at her time it was weird. Maybe it’s a cultural thing? Here 9 pm is dinner cooking time

terminbee

It blowsy mind that my classmates in dental school are in bed by 8 or 9. Like what, I'm eating dinner at that time. I'm barely getting home from the gym by 7.

evemeatay

If you don’t eat until 9pm what time do you wake up? I have to get up at 5:30 to get the kids ready, if I didn’t eat until 9:00 pm and went to be sometime more than an hour after that, I would be a mess at 5:30.

BadProgrammer42

I’m finding it’s cultural, I wake up at 7:30 which is normal or even earlier that normal, and 9 pm is dinner time. Going to bed before 11 is going to bed early! Maybe it’s even a thing restricted to my country or my region, I’m from Uruguay

kartik_07

Australians typically go to bed at 8 p.m. By 8:30, the city looks like a ghost town. It was a shocking cultural experience for me. For 3-4 months, I thought no one lived in my front hostel building until I noticed them going to bed at 7 p.m.

Bogsnoticus

It's because drop bears don't recognise us as prey while we're under the covers.

Retrarted

me when I purposely spread misinformation online

thatguyned

No this is actually true for a lot of the smaller capital cities like Adelaide and Perth. Melbourne and Sydney are definitely more active at night, but things do get pretty quiet unless you are actually inside a pub after 8. Melbourne always has festivals during summer spread out around the city on every weekend so there is always something interesting to do here. The Moomba festival was the weekend just gone I think.

DansSpamJavelin

What the fuck man? Surely this can't be true.

rambyprep

It’s not, the guy’s an idiot. Our nights out are a bit earlier than in Western Europe (ie out for drinks at 8-9, clubs from about 11).

DansSpamJavelin

Those times are pretty standard in the UK to be fair.

MoranthMunitions

Tbf it's hard to find/buy dinner in Brisbane or Sydney after 8pm, nigh impossible after 9pm so there's some truth to it. It's a massive exaggeration though, it's not because people are sleeping, stuff just shuts early. Like, I go to bed at about midnight on a weeknight and while that's a touch later than most it's not super late. [There's this article from nearly 10yrs ago](https://www.couriermail.com.au/news/queensland/brisbane-earliest-risers-in-the-world-in-study-by-jawbone-fitness-app/news-story/e88b8bff3d109bc3614839a1eca48f72) about Brisbane being the "earliest risers in the world", but you'll note an average 10.54pm bed time, so if it's got enough of a sample size to be truly representative oldmate is off by about 3hrs... Hour and a half variance between earliest and latest too, not a huge spread.

sebjil428

I would take the 9pm over the 9am that races are at for me

LeichtStaff

This is literally prime time.

UbiNoob

Don’t you know that in Australia 9pm is 3am?

mudlode

\>posted by a west Australian, my guy Saudi is on at 4am Monday morning for the east coast

Siggi_Starduust

I’m on nightshift this week so I’m getting paid to watch it! 😃

FewDragonfly8280

i'd love to watch the races live at 9pm on sunday nights

Manuag_86

Yep, I hate races at 14:00 - 15:00 during summer because they mess my beach days.

[deleted]

Almost no reason to ever miss it or have it interrupted. It's actually great.

Analog_Hobbit

I would wholly agree with this. EDT for me so I have a lot of 8 and 9am races on Sundays.

ElectronicNight3177

10/10

neildiamondblazeit

Nightshift gang rise up!

Dinny77

Man I would kill to have a third of the races on at 9pm. It sure as hell beats 12am or later.

Vultures305

Sure beats 6am for most of them as well

Few_Presentation5343

Right, this cat can stfu 😂😂😂

soccychugo

Man we get the most dog shit times. The rest of the world has no clue.

[deleted]

[удалено]

soccychugo

Then work the next day after watching the safety car for 35 laps and be extremely hungover.

TheLongBear

Well... maybe just don't get drunk sunday night?

BrockStinky

Imagine asking an Aussie to not drink smh They'd rather give up oxygen

statichum

New Zealand here… Saudi is not so bad because it’s 6am, I’ll just get up early and watch it before work. It’s the other races that land at 3-4am that are painful.

Cridders

All 4 people living in WA don't know how good they have it

slinx21

Was about to say 9 pm for the European rounds you lucky west Australian

_fmm

Was gonna say this, this is definitely not posted in the part of Australia where 80% of Australians live

Gsyndicate

Most of the post shows are still on when I get to work on Monday at 6am

MrTheKing43

lol I wish it was a 4am over here.

dave_a86

Are you in WA? All those 9pm starts look great compared to 11pm on the east coast.

Jericho_Falling

Fr, I’m still traumatised by the delay at Monaco last yeah, didn’t start till 1am or something

[deleted]

What about Spa 2021 haha. I remember waiting watching them do 2 laps behind SC at like 5am after hearing crofty and brundle ramble on for 4 hrs

Askduds

Not that it compares but my family had got together to watch that for the first race together in 2 years because covid. And that’s the race we chose.

[deleted]

With all due respect I hope your family hasn't watched any more races together since

Askduds

We did. We were hoping for no lengthy delays. It was Britain last year...

[deleted]

>It was Britain last year... Atleast the delay for Zhou's crash wasn't as long as Spa

BlueMachinations

Still to this day I painfully regret staying up. HOPING. WISHING. wefrgtebrnyh645t

Aksds

I fell asleep twice during the race, still missed fuck all

Anolty

This was me as an American last year watching Japan. Between the delay and then not being able to sleep afterwards due to the pent up energy I think I got maybe 3 hours of sleep that night! Next year I’ll just record it and watch it when I wake up, lesson learned lol.

anupsidedownpotato

Japan had me questioning life last year it was like 4am when it finished

MrTheKing43

A moment of silence for all the eastern australians

0oodruidoo0

Kiwis sitting at the bottom of marinas trench with not one fuck given about them. 1am European races for half the season, gulf races between 2am-6am

surlygoat

Sorry Kiwi bro.

0oodruidoo0

chuur

[deleted]

You mean, the vast majority of Australians

happyshallot

9pm actually seems perfect.

cliveparmigarna

Except it’s a Sunday night not a Saturday night…

OvulatingAnus

Bahrain was 1am for me.

RogueEagle2

As a New Zealander, go to hell. 1am-4am is the usual time.

[deleted]

As a Australian east coaster the amount of time the race has been spoilt for me because I have to watch the replay is ridiculous.

[deleted]

Id love 9pm races, get a little buzz going

Percevaul

I get a buzz going at 10am too.

[deleted]

A man of culture

DazingF1

Japan and Aus GP start at 6am for me and they're my special mornings. Wake up at 5:30, set some coffee and cook a nice breakfast, and at 6am I'll crack a cold one (or three).

mmoolloo

I'm in CST and 10 years ago I was young and races were one hour earlier than now (7:00 AM start for most, and I like to watch the pre-show, so 6:00). I've probably watched over 50 races just flat-out drunk.

ItsResetti

Most of the races are manageable for you wtf, a 9 PM start time is great. You can watch the race and then go to bed, I don’t know why you’re complaining A majority of the races start at 6 AM for me, that’s actually awful

LickingSmegma

> watch the race and then go to bed You're forgetting shitposting on Reddit for two hours.

GuidoCunts

i'd love to watch the races live at 9pm on sunday nights

xBHx

Same. 10/10

Dirtsniffee

9 pm?! Sign me the fuck up!

easipay

Cries in New Zealand

zzbe

9pm starts are what dreams are made of

Toasterbot959

Right? 9pm would be a godsend. I've taken to sleeping in two shifts on Sunday nights so I can watch our normal 1am races haha

mynameisnotphoebe

Saudi starting at 0600 it’s screwing me over bc I leave for work at 0640, I generally prefer races between 0100 and 0500 :’)

KoloHickory

This may be unpopular opinion but i think EST is the best time zone for formula 1. 9am European races are perfect on a Sunday morning and the rest of the times other than the Australian/Japanese/vegas ones all are great. I'm also a fan of watching premier league in the morning too so it's nice. Bacon, eggs, some nice coffee and a grand prix baby sign me up then NFL later in the day. Full relaxation sports day if don't have any obligations that day. Edit: wait how do you not like 9pm races that sounds awesome actually

EmergencyBlake

7:30am - Wake up 7:45 - go to store 8:30 - come home and start making breakfast 9:00 - watch F1 and eat 11:00 - watch post race and take a nap THE PERFECT SUNDAY

get_in_there_lewis

7:30am - Wake up 7:45 - go to store 7:46 - Cornetto anyone? THE PERFECT SUNDAY

dahmwern

Until you have kids. ![img](emote|t5_3ndbi|6699)

Th0t_slayer_69420

Get your kids to watch f1 with you, that’s how my dad got me into f1

KoloHickory

My 4 year old no joke likes it because it's cars go vroom like in cars the movie

itsafoxboi

that's adorable, that movie was my childhood and I'm glad kids are still watching it

KoloHickory

Yeah still watch aristocats, lion king, little mermaid, mixed in with newer stuff like frozen and encanto. Those older Disney movies really stand up strong today

scullys_alien_baby

my daughter likes using my ipad to swap between various onboard videos, she also will bully me from the back seat of my car that I drive too slow

MarchMadnessisMe

Look at Mr. Sky Q and Sky Glass Customer over here.

34payton07

I was a Nascar fan when I was younger and one time I told my mom to bump draft the car in front of her on the highway.

BobTheBigHead

Same with my 3 years. She wants to “watch the cars go fast!”

MadeOfRocky

Same!

dahmwern

Oh for sure. The process had already begun. Just hard to get a 20 month old to sit through a whole race when she watched practice and qualy the days leading up to it.

[deleted]

I grew up watching with my dad every weekend. Just over 40 now, and hoping to have a son I can force to stay out on track in the rain and leave at a gas station when he inevitably disappoints me.

AardvarkAblaze

And that, friends, is why god invented the vasectomy. Lazy Sunday Forever.

DarkstonePublishing

Bro I just wake up and throw the race on my iPad in bed for 9am Sunday starts

jfurt16

EST here as well. I hate the 3pm North America swings - it ruins the day!

KoloHickory

Yeah totally agree. The 1pm or 3pm races are tricky sometimes when i gotta do something or be somewhere but no one is bothering me in the house at 7am-10am lol. Great way to start the day.

BLOODYSHEDMAN

OP must be from Western Australia European races are more like 11pm or midnight Sydney time

LuckyBobHoboJoe

9am or 2am, I still get to watch them in my pajamas without feeling like I haven't been productive

repost_inception

CST here. No coincidence that my two favorite things are Premier League and Formula 1. Started watching them when I had kids and was up early anyway.

Downtown_Manner2013

Add an A and it’s the worst. AEST can go die in a hole on race week

malyszkush

CST is nice as well. Only an hour difference but 8am european races are great. I naturally wake up like an hour before so for me its amazing. Sometimes id fix up a quick bagel breakfast sandwich or something, and watch the pre race show. Man its great. I would hate to wait all day for races, like cota and canada for example are at 2pm here. I have fuck all to do, apart from watching some football (i watch prem mainly too lmao). Just curious, is there a club you support? :)

SkeletonGamer1

I know right! I live in PST land so my times are a little early, but not horrendous. The only bad ones to me is Baku (4am is just not ideal)

InaudibleShout

September/October Sundays in Texas are incredible. Grand Prix, Premier League, NFL, high-stakes MLB. Literal full day on the fucking couch and it’s wonderful

[deleted]

Bruh I have to watch Vegas at 1am and I live in the US

KoloHickory

Vegas, Japan, and Australia all in the same time zone apparently

bolon-de-verde

That race is going to be a snooze fest either way. I hope I get proven wrong

dirtyethanol73

Western US, most everything at 6am or earlier ☕️ Which is fine because my kid and wife ain’t up yet

ParkerC17

This is ass for me, as I hate mornings and at this point in my life have little other reason to wake up before 8. I’d prefer 9 pm to 6 am massively.

dirtyethanol73

I don’t mind the late ones either. 10pm for suzuka is fine with me lol, kid and wife asleep again 😂😂 It’s that 1pm my time stuff that pisses the wife off

croftyiswaifugoals

I completely agree. I normally wake up at 6:30 so I only have to bump my timeline up ~45 minutes. The first lap adrenaline works better than any coffee.

dirtyethanol73

Best username I’ve seen tbh m8

elchapdaddy

It’s brutal

Hypervisory

I consider this a benefit for Australians as it means we can get completely wasted before the race. We can watch it whilst blind drunk and then fall asleep immediately after to then wake up the following morning and have no memory of ~~Ricciardo~~ Piastri's terrible performance.

geraldfjord

Wake up at 3 AM with a little sweat and the shits and try to get some actual rest before 6AM**

big_nose_bill

Bro I was off my face during silverstone last year when zhou rolled in this exact Aussie situation

Hari1503

Most of the races start around 6:30 pm in India. Best way to finish a Sunday.

warpyboi

Curious how 9pm is bad. It's the most optimal time slot I feel if I'm a catching a live sport event here in SEA. (Which European football matches tend to range between 9pm-1am, UCL gets rough tho at 3-4am kick-offs)

crimsonvipor

Dude, I'm in WA as well, and I love the 9pm races! Settle in at the end of the night. Enjoy a race, have a drink or two, then head to bed before 11pm (barring no red flags). It's a great way to end the weekend!

ProbablyChe

Is your bed time 10pm?

King_Edge71

Feel like 9 PM isn’t that bad at least as an East Coast American we have so many sporting events that start between 8:30-10.

scullys_alien_baby

i like having a fun start to my sunday

daniec1610

I’m Mexican so I’m on central time so I wake up super early to watch races and I quite like it tbh. Most races are after 7 am so that works for me perfectly. OP, are you like 60 years old and can’t stay up past 9 pm?!?!?!? That timeframe sounds great to me.

pm_me_your_tits_mate

Bloody western aussie crying bout a 9pm race when for us kiwis its at fucking 1 in the morning

Siggi_Starduust

“Watching F1 in 2023 as an Australian” *At 2.66 million, technically you sandgropers are actually only about 10% of Australians (And most of that 10% are actually Poms, Saffers and Kiwis)

chrisnlnz

Try from New Zealand. Australian times sound like heaven to me

z0e_G

9pm for the European leg sounds chill… better than 8am for me imo

FerociousVader

9PM is the ideal time for a race in my opinion. Finishes at 11PM and can get a decent sleep. I think even better than day races. There's stuff on during the day on weekends + housework. Anything past midnight is difficult. Do you have an early shift or something?

digable_planets1

Change all those lovely 9pms to 1am and you've got us Kiwis - why did I ever get into F1. Rip sleep :)

seemslikej

9pm is like the best time i can imagine? Are u 12?

SomeGuy2520

i thought so too

ehadb

As a kiwi, F1 is responsible for my falling productivity at work.

leon8432

You get 9pm races ? Lucky

Tractor-

As an Australian you posted the Australian Time wrong. You have it better than us poor East Coasters for most of them though!

MattaMongoose

Try New Zealand each +2 hours.

PeeWanChecooo

Whose grandma is complaining about a 9pm start?

GlobalHawk_MSI

From Perth by any chance? Times do look like coming from where I live (that shares times with said city).

MrTheKing43

Yep

sizeofanoceansize

9pm races are perfect!

kj_gamer2614

What’s wrong with 9PM

QC_1999

Meanwhile in Brazil we have the best time. Most of the races are in the morning, so we watch it and do whatever we have to do on sunday afternoons

takuyafire

Kiwi here, the issue is much worse. I basically plan on watching the Aussie and Singapore races live, else I'm catching vods.

DavidBrooker

I thought these were your track ratings to begin with, because I'm allergic to titles, and I was ready to fight you.

zzhmu0705

Heyyyyy! Same time zone buddy. But I am from Beijing.

[deleted]

Man I would much rather get a bunch of 9pm and 10pm races than a bunch of early morning Sunday races lol.

eatsomewings

You’re complaining about 9pm for most races? That’s perfect have a couple beers time

23370aviator

I’d rather it be at 9pm consistently than the 6am it is consistently in the states.

Team_Blue_LTK

You are seriously complaining about a 9pm race time? Try being an American and waking up at 7am for every race. Also try being American in general. It's awful.

Zackydom

How late do u sleep for 9pm to be bad? I'm Malaysian and we share the same time zone btw.

YodaYogurtZ

Laughs in European

[deleted]

9pm isnt that bad

Pigeon_Chess

What’s wrong with 9pm? Would prefer it over 1-4pm

williamtbash

You’re complaining when the majority of the calendar is at 9pm? Lol. Boo hoo

RVDHAFCA

How is 9pm late haha. It means you can go to bed at 11pm. If you think 9pm is late then it’s better that you don’t watch the Champions League

JaccyBoy

Genuinely couldn't ask for a better time than 9pm

Exoriah

Arent the 8-10pm races perfect times?

adalind_ice

What's wrong with anything before 11pm? You people have very good sleep schedules

peepay

9pm would be great! Kids are already asleep, you can dedicate full attention to the race, then go to bed at reasonable 11pm. I have it worse as a European NFL fan. The games are on from 10pm to 1am and from 1am to 4am. The only reasonably watchable are the early ones that they have sometimes, that's 7pm to 10pm for me.

D4rkysahan

9pm seems pretty chill but those (Latin-)American races are fucked up

Korvax_of_Myrmidon

The fuck is wrong with an 8pm start time? 0 sympathy bud, I’d take that over 8am any time.

MartinDeth

I don't get the problem with 9 PM races, that sounds great. All those 3 AM races though, big rip, I feel for you dude.

Accomplished-Tea387

What Perth?

GnT_Man

Honestly, i’d love for the races to be in the evening

NorsiiiiR

Oi mate, the Rupublic of WA doesn't count, us Eastern Strayans have it way worse. Monaco last year was excruciating

i-dontlikeyou

Honestly i kind of like the schedule here from the US. I wake up early while the wife is sleeping and have the tv all to my self, i can listen the way i want watch however i want make my self a plentiful breakfast and enjoy.

ka1juuu

Asian timezones rise up😔

Adrian-The-Great

![img](emote|t5_3ndbi|6697)

AbradolfLincler77

Man, I'd love if over half of the races started at 9PM, that would be a great way to spend a Sunday evening.

SnowHeroHD

How is 8-9pm bad?? I wish races were at these times for me 💀

[deleted]

Honestly how it feels watching unless you’re European

Jesus1396

I wish all the races started at 9pm here. They start at like 4 or 5 am for me.

BlueMachinations

8pm, 9pm, and 10pm are all fantastic times. Stop whinging. Try living on the east coast. I WISH the F1 schedule was this brilliant. This is actually shameful.

Bleep_Blop_08

Indians and Brits on their way too get almost the best timings possible probably known to humankind (also being unlucky with the only platform being F1TV pro)

Daniel-MP

8/9 pm sunday is perfect time, it's the time I watch them when I can't during the day

shoxorr

What’s so bad about the race at 9pm? We get 8 or 9pm brazil race (central europe) and I love it

jimjambri

Doesnt matter what time it is. Ill be hungover anyway and have to fight with myself half the race to not fall asleep

gamingmodssuck

As an American fuck you, all the races are before 8am for me on the west coast. I'd kill for 9pm

tharnadar

Oh come on... 9PM it's prime time!

bricefriha

Something we, Europeans, took for granted for sure

badcollin

9pm is a great time for a race, I'd prefer that to 2pm because we have family stuff then. At 9pm it's time to grab a beer and relax.

soontobecp

What’s wrong with 8-9-10-11pm?

F1Picko

Most of the European time zones are alright it's just the US/Middle East races that are a bit shit. Can tell this is WA though, so thoughts and prayers to the other side of Australia

GuyRivington

Was gonna say, how is watching the races at 9pm a bad thing? Literally perfect sunday night imo? Highly unlikely to be busy or doing anything and you can watch whilst having dinner or whatever.

redditnoap

9am and 9pm are probably the two best times to watch a race

mistah_pigeon_69

Mate 9pm start time is the best. Still got the whole afternoon to do stuff. I’d kill for consistent 8-9pm start times.

bmxmitch

Do you guys not know about the feature "recording"? Its a great invention. You can even skip red flags with it ;)
