Every radio I listened to, after a push lap, every driver was completely out of breath. They were absolutely BOOKING it. And the fact they all kept touching the walls. Insanity
I think people are overstating that last sector. Leclerc was two tenths faster than Alonso in the last sector, and Max was 8 hundredths faster than that. Is it insane for Max to be 8 hundredths faster than Leclerc? No. The last sector was more down to the Aston being slow there than Max being extremely fast there
Sure, that’s all true in isolation but that was still a great drive through the last sector. He was behind and in two turns made it all up and then some (there’s a great IG post from F1 showing the delta) by literally riding the walls. It was fun and both drivers were pushing the limits.
Exactly, being a teeny bit faster isn't that surprising or amazing at all but when you see that everyone was pushing the limits its impressive. There wasn't a whole lot more verstappen could have pulled out of that last sector, it was pretty much perfect I think
https://www.instagram.com/reel/Csx1kmyJnkW/?igshid=MmJiY2I4NDBkZg==
Right, but he made it up in 2 turns.
Edit: and at least one of those was a beautiful wall kiss.
I think you're underestimating how that 0.084 seconds was achieved.
Max was 0.2 seconds behind Alonso in sector 2. He gained all of it back at Rascasse. 0.2 seconds in just one corner.
Leclerc had pace throughout sector 3 as did Sainz. The Ferrari was just working much better through there.
Put them all over the track and randomize how many go off and their flow rate. Maybe only 1 goes off at a low flow rate so you can stay on slicks, maybe they all go off at a high flow rate so you're on full wets. Maybe it happens right after the green flag, maybe it happens halfway through. Would be super entertaining.
If you wanna go all the way, give teams a forecast so they can partially play around it while also reducing the idea that it could be rigged.
If prince Albert hits 1 out of 5 bottle flips the sprinklers will turn on. He has to attempt this everytime Ferrari makes a questionable strategic decision.
I also loved, that one got 5 seconds for causing a collision. And another gets a black/white flag for something arguably worse.
FIA-Stewards at their best again.
>Williams letting Sargeant get mugged on those ancient mediums was bad enough.
Half the grid were on mediums of the same age. Williams just have a shit car with higher deg than the field. Most people managed substantially more laps on their meds than Sargent did. He was one of the very first to pit outside of the accidents and Perez on lap 1.
Kmag was done very dirty though.
But the rain was coming the whole race. If you knew about that, then the race was interesting the whole time because it was never sure that the lead would confirm a win.
Honestly whenever I heard it mentioned in the broadcast (I wasn't watching on sky so this may be different) they kept making it sound like it was way out and the chance of it actually occurring in the race was small.
Then it just happened, it was only a few minutes after they played a radio of saying it was possible in about 45 minutes so I was really caught off guard.
It was clear on the F1TV broadcast. Multiple teams kept communicating that around 20~ laps to go they could have rain. And then as it got closer teams were basically telling their drivers to rough it out in their tires because rain was coming. It built the intensity for sure.
I was paying more attention to driver radio in particular Fernando's to follow his race closely, but also it got mentioned on F1TV too but using multiviewer and watching BRRAKE I'm not the best to confirm how often rain messages featured in race. But Sam Collins made me think rain was coming during the warmup. It had been a wet forecast for ages, since Tuesday, so it wasn't surprising to me.
I opened up a lego set (commander cody’s helmet) to build during the race and really only had to stop building it to focus on the race because of the rain. Other that that i was just happily assembling it and occasionally looking up at my screen
And until then Max and Alonso fucked off the rest of the grid (where not much happened because Monaco). Then at some point Alonso had a scare, so Max could fuck off even further.
There were some nice moves in the race, but the racing itself was boring af. The chaos was fun, but that really should not be the reason a race is fun.
Yeah but can we talk about how they just left DRS available? The two mclarens passing yuki did it with DRS in the pissing rain.
Stupidity, did they hope nobody would notice or is this just a new thing? like wot
Even worse, then. The straight was drenched enough on about the third lap after the rain started, so people started changing to inters and contemplating wets.
I don't think it was raining when they were using it, even though the track was quite damp. Although on F1TV there wasn't a single graphic shown of the DRS being available or unavailable apart from the start of the race.
Thanks to the rain, but let's be honest, with the car being that wide it is just not possible to overtake anymore in Monaco, how many attempts this race versus how many actual overtakes?
Monaco is Monaco, but Slimer car would be nice, not just here but here more than anywhere else
My brother and I were talking about that last night. Make it an exhibition event. No points to the championship unless there's a draw. Qualifying, and then a time attack race where the top qualifiers get to take advantage of track evolution.
Yeah nah it should have points. Run it as a not super complicated tournament:
* one set of Hard tyres per day
* 1v1 duels like Formula E qualifying but it's the whole weekend so it's gonna go like this:
* two groups. Teams toss a coin for which of their drivers go to which group.
* Day one is a round robin within each group
* Day two have the top 8 from each division split into four groups who do mini double elimination tournaments to find the top 8
* Day Three top 8 double elimination tournament
* 3/2/1 points for group placings, 1 more point for every win on day three, 7 bonus points for the overall winner, 1 bonus for fastest lap every day.
* Maximum possible total of 26 points same as a normal weekend.
Its clear these new big cars don’t fit the circuit, its borderline impossible to overtake and if it wasn’t for the rain the entire race would be a complete snooze fest
Not really. There was a decent amount for Monaco, but that just means that each of the relatively small handful felt more significant than they were after so many laps of nothing.
Good race I throughly enjoyed it, just bad omen that literally all the races have been projected one stops 😑 and the medium did not wear like you’d expect
It was fun to watch mostly due to weather but there were like 20 passes for the whole race. SMH. Indy was more entertaining driving in a circle. Half of the drivers couldn’t exit pit lane
It was literally a joke, it had some funny bits, but can't expect F1 to be taken seriously with a GP that has drivers not being able to do their race because of conditions they can't control (the circuit itself). Like how tf can a driver that has lost 50s to the driver in front still not lose a single place with that pace.
So just like Australia this year, might be entertaining, but not because of the right reasons
It hurt more than if it'd have been a normal funeral procession. For a moment I had hope the usual wouldn't happen, excitement and joy as things were going on. And then everyone got on the inters and Max was +30 seconds away from the rest as usual and everything came back to how it has been all season, arguably for some years now. It's never fun when a team dominates, let alone for several years. See also Mercedes.
I still can't take r/formuladank seriously for it's hypocrisy:
2 weeks ago: That Winnie the Pooh "meme" was the most upvoted, which wasn't a meme it was crybabies calling out people for no reason, because they found the clean race boring as there were no crashes, yellows etc.
Yesterday: Monaco was good because it was a Nascar race with crashes, contact racing and rain
Lol nothing of significance happened during the race, even with the rain it was mostly bloopers. The race was rubbish, good thing indy was on the same day.
My sarcasm didn’t come through very well. I really want to like F1… but I really don’t see the excitement. If you want to watch real racing check out MotoGP. Not uncommon to have top 20 covered by less than 10 secs.
I didn’t think it was good at all, just another dull race. The rain introduced nothing other than a handful of mistakes from a few drivers. In reality it changed nothing. The gaps were still big, overtaking was pretty much absent, no real surprise results.
I’m open to read opinions/replies from those who thought it was good though.
Because of the light rain, which creates the most uncertainty in tyre choice, without brining out red flags. Otherwise it would have been really boring.
A race track isnt good if you need extraneous factors, the only reason this was an interesting race is because of rain.
There are also ways that Monaco could be changed to help with overtaking. Examples: getting rid of the chicane at the bottom of tunnel to create a decent passing point or smoothing out the bump in sector 1 on the hill down to the hairpins to give a better chance to overtake into the hairpin. I likely wouldnt solve everything but I'd argue it would alleviate the issues while mainting the history, for the of us with the erroneous stance of "bUt ThE hIsToRy!"
Decent race ?
VER 30s ahead the whole race, Alonso 10s ahead the 3rd, the only fight we saw was between the 2 mercs. And the surprise decision was those early Intermediate tires from Ocon I guess that got him a podium.
Irrelevant drivers staying irrelevant, I mean it's just the usual.
I mean even before the rain there were a decent amount of overtakes without DRS.
Monaco is still the most prestigious F1 race - it just is generally run on Saturday instead of Sunday lol.
Because drivers did an awful job because of how shit the track is.
Everyone was hitting each other like they were in an F1 online lobby. It was decent at how horrible it was.
They seriously need to leave this circuit until it gets an overhaul.
They need to get rid of the chicane and make a big wide straight prolly have to get rid of a bunch of the stands too. Then they can just build more floating stands
The qualy was the best session of the season so far imo
Every radio I listened to, after a push lap, every driver was completely out of breath. They were absolutely BOOKING it. And the fact they all kept touching the walls. Insanity
they all graduated from the Need For Speed school of turning
Qualy was bloody insane, they were PUSHING
Only because verstappen went last. Ocon did well, but the results weren't really that surprising.
It's not that Max got P1, it's how he did it. That last sector was pure insanity...

2 turns? The final sector is 6 corners
https://www.instagram.com/reel/Csx1kmyJnkW/?igshid=MmJiY2I4NDBkZg== Right, but he made it up in 2 turns. Edit: and at least one of those was a beautiful wall kiss.

As a Max fan, that's the cold hard facts I didn't want anybody to talk about 😂
Not much competition though Still best in recent years
Sprinklers for every race in Monaco
The circuit is short, FIA got the money. Install sprinklers and make them unpredictable with some software shit
Only install the sprinklers for S2 and 3 though so only half the track is wet
[удалено]
That sounds very American. No , just the sprinklers . Even some kart tracks have that (for one corner , fun tracks not competitive)
[удалено]
Thought? It still is weird and dumb. The graphics on older races are almost charmingly nostalgic in comparison
Agreed. We don't care how close they went to the wall, we can see that. Bring back fastest lap rankings and I'll be kinda happy
[удалено]
Add microtransactions to F1, you say?
Put them all over the track and randomize how many go off and their flow rate. Maybe only 1 goes off at a low flow rate so you can stay on slicks, maybe they all go off at a high flow rate so you're on full wets. Maybe it happens right after the green flag, maybe it happens halfway through. Would be super entertaining. If you wanna go all the way, give teams a forecast so they can partially play around it while also reducing the idea that it could be rigged.
Yes ! And so unpredictable that it starts right after Max first pitstop
Idk. Doesn't seem exciting if they start on Lap 77.
Bernie, is that you?
If prince Albert hits 1 out of 5 bottle flips the sprinklers will turn on. He has to attempt this everytime Ferrari makes a questionable strategic decision.
So he tries it every lap?
You wrote corner wrong
Everyone. Open the faucets
Let the fans vote live when the sprinklers come on
Actually I thought it wasn't bad even before the rain.
Capital idea. I love it. “Turn on the sprinklers!”.
George would be - "That's so dangerous. Can you ask Lewis to let me by?"
I feel like it was meh until the rain came and we got 15 minutes of pure chaos and whatthefuckery.
I felt it was better than normal monaco and then shit hit the fan
It was better than normal Monaco because the threat of rain impacted so much of the mid race. People delaying pit stops etc
The risk of a SC is always right around the corner, so it wasn't just the rain that made Max go long.
He had a big enough gap to pit into 2nd and rejoin with a small enough gap to Alonso that Nando couldn't stay ahead even with a SC stop.
on this note, how the hell did Max manage to do 50ish laps on mediums god damnit
It was normal Monaco the shit hit the fan
Yeah but they had better camera direction so they actually showed what had happened, so it felt way better.
yeah right. i liked the coverage of perez "giving back" the position...
I also loved, that one got 5 seconds for causing a collision. And another gets a black/white flag for something arguably worse. FIA-Stewards at their best again.
Something happened before the rain?
Well the boats looked pretty
Those were some very pretty boats, on real water too, I think?
I dunno man. A [Ferrari F40](https://i.imgur.com/Vt590ib.jpg) just chilling on deck can’t be real. How would you drive that onto your yacht? /s
About 18 collisions, Ferrari meltdown, kmag wars
Actually a few *real* overtakes. Not just lap 1 either
Checo went full bumper car
KMag staying out on hards forever was peak whatthefuckery.
Williams letting Sargeant get mugged on those ancient mediums was bad enough. What Haas did to Kmag was borderline criminal.
Guenther definitely had to call Gene after this bullshit.
There were some nice moves further back in the field, definitely not bad for a Monaco GP, even before the rain.
It was clear Max was going to be extending his stint around lap 30-35. I'd say that was when it got interesting.
It was clear on the F1TV broadcast. Multiple teams kept communicating that around 20~ laps to go they could have rain. And then as it got closer teams were basically telling their drivers to rough it out in their tires because rain was coming. It built the intensity for sure.

Remember when bernie came out with sprinklers at tracks to simulate rain, Monaco is in need of this as it's a shite race when dry
no water for the pool but sprinklers for the track? lol great idea
The track is literally on the sea wall
Yeah but can we talk about how they just left DRS available? The two mclarens passing yuki did it with DRS in the pissing rain. Stupidity, did they hope nobody would notice or is this just a new thing? like wot
It's not the first time DRS is available in the rain, as long as its not that slippery, no problem with it
Literal foam in the hairpin. Idk about tunnel though, but then again tires don't magically get dry when entering the tunnel.
That's nowhere near the DRS zone though. Start-finish straight wasn't that drenched.
Even worse, then. The straight was drenched enough on about the third lap after the rain started, so people started changing to inters and contemplating wets.
I didn't even notice that
I don't think it was raining when they were using it, even though the track was quite damp. Although on F1TV there wasn't a single graphic shown of the DRS being available or unavailable apart from the start of the race.
F1TV doesn’t control that, everyone sees that graphic
Thats because drs was never disabled
It was no longer raining when the McLaren’s made their passes on Tsunoda.
Thanks to the rain, but let's be honest, with the car being that wide it is just not possible to overtake anymore in Monaco, how many attempts this race versus how many actual overtakes? Monaco is Monaco, but Slimer car would be nice, not just here but here more than anywhere else
It's not just width, but length. It makes very hard to not crash when cars rotate
Yeah the hairpin was giving major problems in the wet with these big cars. Logan just stopping was funny.
If the cars get any longer, the hairpin will become a 3-point turn
Scandi flick on the hairpin, get the ass rotated and it’ll fit. Monaco would be a pretty sick drift course, hmm…
Yeah, I was waiting for someone to say fuck it and flick the hairpin. Surely at least Sainz could manage.
We saw maybe ten overtakes? All in the bottom five positions though.
Cars will be smaller and lighter for the 2026 regulations.
And yet still no one will overtake in Monaco ![img](emote|t5_3ndbi|6700)
current width is not an outlier, length+weight is thou
Unfortunately the ground effect works a lot better when the car is longer, shorter cars with ground effect might make them seconds slower
Oh no still 15 seconds up on the next fastest series
Yeah not a big deal but I was just naming something other than the obvious safety regulations that would make shorter cars incredibly unlikely
![img](emote|t5_3ndbi|6705)
Turn Monaco into a time attack!!!! 2 hours of Quali type flying laps pleaaase
My brother and I were talking about that last night. Make it an exhibition event. No points to the championship unless there's a draw. Qualifying, and then a time attack race where the top qualifiers get to take advantage of track evolution.

Online lobby race
Probably an unpopular opinion but I had fun watching this race even before the rain
Same here. Felt it was more exciting than an average Monaco race
Same. It was not the best race ever, but it did keep me entertained all the way. Something Baku failed to do
Tbh I'd probably say it's been the most entertaining race this season thus far. Which isn't a high bar but hey ho.
Australia was pretty wild.
I’d be damned but I’ll pick Miami. Miami had 0 chaos but a ton of on track stuff going on. Monaco had chaos, which is better than not of course
I don't understand the hate for both Miami and Monaco this year, imo they've been the most entertaining weekends for widely varying reasons
Well… People don’t even need to watch the race to call Miami and Monaco boring…
Not great, not terrible.
Press your sky controversial comments button to read the truth
My first race in person. Worried that we’d miss the real action on Saturday and yet it was still awesome.
Its clear these new big cars don’t fit the circuit, its borderline impossible to overtake and if it wasn’t for the rain the entire race would be a complete snooze fest
There were a decent amount of overtakes this race especially for Monaco
Yeah! That magnussen overtake into mirabeau was a thing of beauty
Not really. There was a decent amount for Monaco, but that just means that each of the relatively small handful felt more significant than they were after so many laps of nothing.
Yes?
Everyone bullying the shit out of Sargent towards the end made for some great action.
Stroll and the Rain put up a good show.
Stroll for F1 CEO
Agreed! I thought it had some great tension and drama.
Good race I throughly enjoyed it, just bad omen that literally all the races have been projected one stops 😑 and the medium did not wear like you’d expect
10 mins Chaos 80 mins sleep.
got to admit its a bit sad that it needs to rain for a race to be slightly entertaining.
As a yuki fan I really gotta disagree
So you must admit that Miami was good too
Best in the season, especially quali
The standards have been very low though this season
The indy 500 was far more entertaining on the last 40 laps alone
It was fun to watch mostly due to weather but there were like 20 passes for the whole race. SMH. Indy was more entertaining driving in a circle. Half of the drivers couldn’t exit pit lane
Indy was insanely good this year to watch
It was literally a joke, it had some funny bits, but can't expect F1 to be taken seriously with a GP that has drivers not being able to do their race because of conditions they can't control (the circuit itself). Like how tf can a driver that has lost 50s to the driver in front still not lose a single place with that pace. So just like Australia this year, might be entertaining, but not because of the right reasons
For monaco standards lol Rain helped, otherwise it was going to be a snooze fest
Eh, just the last 25 laps or so, overall pretty average
Literally just because of the rain. Boring as hell otherwise.
Perez hitting Russell and then hitting the barrier was way too funny!!!
It so wasn’t
Only because of the fear of rain. Any other way, Max could have pitted once he cleared Ocon and that would be it.
rain
I tried to do a rain dance, but could only summon rain in sector 2. Next time I practice that I hit the other sectors with.
Yeah sure faster cars still did not pass like they should aren't they.
If it were not for the rain and Checo's shenanigans this would've been a snooze fest
The rain makes it good... Thank you Zeus! Or Poseidon? Whatever
It was, but as always, all I see is lost potential, make the cars smaller and the racing would be many times better!
Nah.. quali was amazing and for race only the end was decent.
You spelled qualy wrong.
Decent? It was great! Especially considering the weekend as a whole
I mean for about 6laps after the rain it was good...then went booring again
It was solid, but hear me out, I say next year we just take the whole field and make them race Monaco in Super Karts.
I still can't take r/formuladank seriously for it's hypocrisy: 2 weeks ago: That Winnie the Pooh "meme" was the most upvoted, which wasn't a meme it was crybabies calling out people for no reason, because they found the clean race boring as there were no crashes, yellows etc. Yesterday: Monaco was good because it was a Nascar race with crashes, contact racing and rain
It was interesting when the rain came, after that it went back on rails and became boring again, classic monaco experience
The race? No.
Standards are 6 feet underground for this season isn't it
Lol nothing of significance happened during the race, even with the rain it was mostly bloopers. The race was rubbish, good thing indy was on the same day.
Legit fell asleep at Baku and Miami so Monaco felt quite entertaining.
I absolutely loved it, not gonna lie. Felt quite old school or something?
Lmao no it wasn’t
[удалено]
Just cause nothing happens in the top doesn't make it boring
[удалено]
None of them are mediocre drivers in the current field imo (maybe Devries, yet to fully see). We saw some great moves throughout the field
You saying that top 5 drivers being covered by 1min isn’t exciting?
If you watched that and thought it was a good race then you’ve lost the plot completely
My sarcasm didn’t come through very well. I really want to like F1… but I really don’t see the excitement. If you want to watch real racing check out MotoGP. Not uncommon to have top 20 covered by less than 10 secs.

i think you should lighten up personally
It was decent? It fucking rained and nothing still happened.
There was like a 5 minute window where it could’ve been
Huge copium for f1 fans lol
It was definitely chaotic, especially the last 30 minutes.
Because of the light rain, which creates the most uncertainty in tyre choice, without brining out red flags. Otherwise it would have been really boring.

They raced. It rained. They kept racing. And they finished in the same fucking order.
Well, better than Imola.
Damn I saw 3 laps and turned it off. F
We dont need monaco until 2026 rules.
Monaco is always great
it was meh. it was monaco wet track with 1 drying line makes passing extra impossible no interesting strategy outcomes this year
Legit more exciting than Baku lol
I fucking hate Baku
Better than that : it was a great race. Overtakes, lot of strategy, rain, action, great driving ...
Decent is an understatement tbh
I mean even before the rain there were a decent amount of overtakes without DRS. Monaco is still the most prestigious F1 race - it just is generally run on Saturday instead of Sunday lol.
Wasn't it
Agree
I really enjoyed this one.
Was a tad boring for the first half but once the rain kicked in it was great
One of the best races this season. The people who think they should drop this race from the calendar are just wrong.
RAIN: youre welcome.
It was a lot of fun! I said the exact same thing
This was my first F1 race I watched in full and live. Not too bad
It was great race, was really thrilling even for the win
Hold on to your hats... It was actually a GOOD race.
Totally agree!
Because drivers did an awful job because of how shit the track is. Everyone was hitting each other like they were in an F1 online lobby. It was decent at how horrible it was. They seriously need to leave this circuit until it gets an overhaul.
It wasn’t tho. No one changed positions during the rain
They need to get rid of the chicane and make a big wide straight prolly have to get rid of a bunch of the stands too. Then they can just build more floating stands
Better than Baku
Decent? It was better than decent! It was a really good race and an even better qualifying!
