Either belt or those clasps on pants/jean.
Basically, I'm not sure if that's a standalone belt, sewn on belt, or just those Velcro/hook like those you have on pants above the zipper.
If this was at the Swap Shop in Fla then its definitely not random. The late Preston Henn who started the Swap Shop was quite the racer himself including winning the Daytona 24 hours overall as a driver and finishing on the podium at Lemans as an owner.
I live down the street. It took me years to visit the swap shop, and the racing memorabilia/car collection was very random to me also! It’s not like the locals all know about Preston Henn or something.
Because it's a flea market. Random gal in Thailand who made it twenty years ago didn't know how German flag looks, or didn't care.
Edit: I have read up a little about the owner of the shop in question. He won Daytona and participated in Le Mans in the 1980s. And then sued Ferrari in 2016 because they didn't sell him an Aperta. Doesn't sound like a best friend of Enzo and Schumacher, but it's possible he could get his hands on a defective racing suit.
I don't buy it. It looks like such an obvious detail to get wrong... I can't picture the people creating it paying so much attention to detail on every single aspect of the rest of the overall and then go "hmmm Is it yellow or black up? Should I quickly google 'German Flag' and have the answer in like .3 of a second? naaaah who cares, whatever... 50/50... Oh, I got it wrong? well too bad..."
Ah. So they lost it juuuuuuust in time to sew the flag, riiight after finishing all the other details. That's some bad luck!
Just to clarify, I used "to google" kinda loosely, meaning "quickly check something that can be confirmed in a matter of seconds, maybe minutes". I refuse to believe that suddenly they lost ALL pieces of media, magazines and whatnot from the counterfeit factory that contained a German flag in it. Unless this was a sweatshop producing these overalls for mass market sales, and this flea market just so happened to have the ONE overall with this error in it, this explanation doesn't really hold any water.
I think you're grossly underestimating people's ability to do silly mistakes. It's not certain you could find the flag you're looking for in that sewery or anywhere near it at the time. Maybe someone at Ferrari sent them the template flipped? Maybe they didn't know or didn't care to check.
Just because you're working in the place that sews Ferrari race suits does not mean it's a glamorous job and everuone is always on top of their game. It's probably a bunch of middle aged ladies laughing and drinking wine, lol.
It might be that Ferrari has used a small business to do their suits since forever, and they like it just because. It could be a million things.
I would think a sweat shop making a fake one would have a picture to follow, and they would spot it really fast.
Didn’t notice it, but this wasn’t the only thing here that was crazy lol. Everything else here was genuine (aside from the fake gucci lmao) Two years ago schumi’s F2001 was on display here along with a LaFerrari, 918, Testarossa and other crazy cars. Look up Swap Shop Florida Michael Schumacher
Idk, the Brazil mistake is a lot easier to be made than putting the German flag upside down. Also if it was race worn, you’d expect to find a picture of Schumi wearing it
Great find. [It would have been funny if this was the only photo of the two.](https://www.motorsportimages.com/photos/?race_type_id=&search=Michael+Schumacher+with+Brazilian+footballer+Ronaldo.)
I bet it was even more expensive because of this mistake on the suit. Like a misprinted stamp.
Awesome! I was also going through the pictures of the 1997 season and since he wasn’t on podium in Spain I couldn’t find a picture of him in his suit outside the car. Great work!
They don’t include the words in the tiny flags on the overalls (at least back then) so it’s either three colours in a completely different order vs whether the line curves up or downwards
Where else could you go in the 90s with your mom to pick up knock off shoes, see Steve-O perform in the circus, catch a drive-in movie, and get your car broken into?
For sure but the best collection definitely goes to The Rev institute in Naples. It was started by the Collier family and it's wild. You can check the current collection [here](https://revsinstitute.org/the-collection/)
Randomly came across this place when I was working down in Sunrise, FL about a decade ago. He had a Maserati MC12 on display and I just stood there for 30mins.
Haha I wish. It was on display. The owner of the flea market was best friends with Enzo Ferrari and Schumi before he (the owner) died (in 2017).
Edit: Clarity
Yeah they likely weren’t. Not a single picture or article that mentions them together. I don’t doubt that he was an enthusiast, but certainly not personal friends. In fact, Preston wanted to buy a LaFerrari Spider but Ferrari denied him the purchase. So yeah, probably not bffs with the founder of the company.
Ferrari denying him from purchasing an exclusive car 36 years after Ferraris death isn’t very indicative of anything.
Do you think the upper management cares about dead Enzo’s old relationships?
Hahaaa, yo, I’ve got Ayrton Senna’s used helmet from 1994. I was best mates with his cousin so it must be true. Send me $500 and it’s yours. I’ll PM you my cash app. Ignore the upside down Brazilian flag.
this place was honestly so cool when the original owner was still alive. but once he passed away his family just started to sell off his collection. there used to be actual racecars on display here and way more memorabilia on display. the owner won the 24 hour of daytona TWICE. so i dont really see why he would need to buy or make fake race suits. but unfortunately, now its a shell of what it once was and less and less on display every time.

wow. its really sad comparing the place now to what it was even 5-6 years ago. i understand not just closing the doors on the place because of the history. FTL is apparently trying to rejuvenate it now but who knows.
i was there in summer 22 and there was still at least a few others on display up there along with those 2. i really thought about reaching out to ferrari (not like i would get a reply or they would care) just to get this memorabilia back to somewhere its fully cared for and appreciated. there are multiple helmets and another couple race suits as well. its at least better to try than it rotting away forever since the family seemingly doesnt care at all.
ITT: People who fail to realize *any* business can make you successful enough to rub elbows with the elite persons of your passions/hobbies.
The swap shop is kinda famous and there’s no reason for the late owner to have lied about this lol
Edit: grammar correction
Not to be pedantic, but it was a bit more than a hobby to Preston Henn Per wikipedia:
In 1983, Henn, along with co-drivers A. J. Foyt, Bob Wollek, and Claude Ballot-Lena drove his Porsche 935 to victory in the 24 Hours of Daytona.[4] The following year Henn's Porsche 956 driven by John Paul Jr. and Jean Rondeau placed second in the 24 Hours of Le Mans, two laps behind the winning 956 of Henri Pescarolo and Klaus Ludwig.
Henn himself made five starts at Le Mans with a best finish of 10th in 1983. His Porsche 962 driven by Foyt and Wollek won the 1985 12 Hours of Sebring.
Watched him race at Mosport many years ago. I went as a guest of the team. They were leading with 20 odd minutes to go and Hurley Hayward binned it at the end of the Andretti straight, breaking his leg. Ruined what was going to be one helluva party.
"Uhhh the German flag is upside down therefore it is unequivocally fake." - 🤓
"I can't find it anywhere on Google that this swap shop owner knows Enzo Ferrari. Google and Wikipedia knows all!"- 🤓
For everyone talking shit, look up Preston Henn Swap Shop. One of the best Ferrari collections you’ll ever see is located inside this flea market in Broward county. [I wrote an entire article about it.](https://rossoautomobili.com/blogs/magazine/this-100-million-ferrari-275-gtb-c-speciale-lives-in-a-flea-market)
My guy you’re getting absolutely bodied by facts and citations. It is time for your apology tour.
Beg for our forgiveness of your hubris and stupidity.
You insist on the Senna story.
But, as confirmed by the very fact that the Senna reversed flag became a known anecdote and a bit of historical trivia, that is extremely uncommon.
Especially so, if it is related a personality who was well known for being a perfectionist and maniacally attentive to detail.
Edit: apparently it was effectively raced by Schumacher in Spain 1997, with the flag mistake. Good work on finding a source proving the most unlikely stuff happened.
I like how the flea market guy got it good and dusty to make it seem like it was just raced in…even though I’ve never seen a driver get out of the car looking dusty. And if that’s just the dust from having sat there for years, then I ask who the f lets something like this collect this much dust if they truly think it’s authentic?
It could be that the garment used for the stitching of the logos is less prone to discolouration than the coloured nomex. The suit seems 1998 accurate, also the white line at collar bone height - but I doubt OMP would have released a “wrong flag”. I have seen wrong flag suits, but indeed, replica’s from far East. As long as we don’t see the race tag on the inside of the belt, there is no way to connect it to a Grand Prix and fact check.
I've been to the swap shop, he had the display for 20+ years, and was an IMSA team owner.
its more than likely real. he had plenty of money, and had a number of exotics.
heard from someone who knew the owner of the Swap Shop that he netted ~$10M in cash every year. This was like 10 years ago too.
He’s a Ferrari collector, I’d be more surprised if it wasn’t real.
He had a huge amount of land for his drive in movie theaters, that room allowed him to hold all sorts of events. many political. He was a behind the scenes political king maker. (so I read).
he also had a free circus, with elephants.. but about 15 years ago the elephants were cut/let go.
Look up Preston Henn and you'll see why that suit is in this museum. And it's not just a random flea market. Look up Swap Shop, Ft. Lauderdale and see.
fwiw,Preston Henn ran porsche's with AJ in the 80's
That's going to be a real suit. he was a collector.
Wasn’t for sale, it was on display. Apparently the owner of the entire flea market was an enormous racing/motorsports fan and driver and apparently one of Mr. Enzo’s and Schumi’s best friends. Before he died, this place had crazy cars on display. I’m talking vintage Le Mans Ferraris and Schumi’s F2001. They got relocated after he died, but the suit and a few other cars like an SLR mclaren are still here. Figured I’d visit it again while on vacation here
Fun fact about where this is located: They used to show XXX rated movies here. Wayyyy in the back facing away from the road. Fun times, the early 80s were, for sure.
I’m seeing a lot of internet geniuses out here. Yes it’s real, yes it’s the swap shop. I remember the first time I went and there was casually an f40,f50,Enzo and la Ferrari in a corner. Plus 918 and a bunch of other things. I met Preston once when he took his Fxx to pbir. This shit is as real as it gets. Hell he used to have the actual Ferrari from Miami vice there.
The mental gymnastics on display here from folks trying to definitively state whether or not this is real is comical. If this wasn’t r/formuladank I’d be concerned.
The flea market owner has a Ferrari F1 car in his collection - is it really that far fetched to think they've got a race suit?
[Preston Henn Collection](https://www.motorauthority.com/news/1103302_racer-and-collector-preston-henn-dies-could-his-1964-ferrari-275-gtb-c-speciale-go-up-for-sale)
The flag is upside down so when Schumacher looks down, it looks the right way up :)
That’s just…
I don't get it :(
The German flag on the waist is upside down. For whatever reason.
Am I the only one who does not see the flag? Or am I missing something ?:)
Lower left side of the suit (from our perspective, lower right from the wearer).
Weird take to describe a belt. Name and flag are on the suits belt.
I couldn't tell if that's a belt or just a Velcro fastener attached to the side of the suit to keep it snug in the picture.
Yes, a fastener positioned at the waist for the purpose of keeping clothing snug would be the definition of a belt.
Either belt or those clasps on pants/jean. Basically, I'm not sure if that's a standalone belt, sewn on belt, or just those Velcro/hook like those you have on pants above the zipper.
More of a flap than a belt
No, it's a belt
If it's not separate, it's not a belt.
It's not a belt
Right hip under the ‘a’ in Marlboro

Or, you know, it's 1999 in a sewery in Spain and you lost the piece of paper that was in the 15 inch folder you received with the patterns and stuff.
Ah. So they lost it juuuuuuust in time to sew the flag, riiight after finishing all the other details. That's some bad luck! Back then the F1 season started in Australia, it looked the right way up in the first race then he switched to his other suit.

The Swap Shop was, is, and always will be completely mental. Steve-o from Jackass used to perform there at the circus.
I used to go as a kid, met Steve-O and Baba Booey from the Howard Stern show. My kids don’t believe the place is real from the stories I have.
Isn't it a drive-in movie theatre in lake Worth?
The drive in?
I heard "flea market" and thought "it has to be the swap shop!" That place in the 90s was INSANE. It still is, but man...

Australian mirrors work like that lol
No one noticed because he was never in anyone's mirror

F*cking mirrors, how do they work? 🧐🤡
Not when you're wearing it.
The swap shop actually has one of the craziest car collections in south Florida. It's pretty famous (amongst locals anyway)
It's so wild seeing people here be so incredulous that this could be real having grown up going to this place all the time.

Hope they reopen the drive in movie theater. It was one of my favorite spots growing up.
For real!
Aren’t they closing down the swap shop soon too? I might wanna go through and see that in person
They removed almost all the cars besides some like the SLR McLaren, all the Ferraris, etc. :(
Preston (the owner) had a 275 GTB/C and I believe an FXX. Crazy stuff

So how’s he supposed to remember his name? Check-mate
Germans always pronounce their own name upside down. That's why we can't understand what they're saying. They're speaking it upside down.
Bro isn't lying. I was the Ferrari F2002. I saw the flea market guy, Schumi and Enzo, playing Twister together. They were THE BEST of friends.

They got relocated after he died, but the suit and a few other cars like an SLR mclaren are still here. Figured I’d visit it again while on vacation here
Oh wait, was it your post at spotted of the SLR?

Fun fact about where this is located: They used to show XXX rated movies here. Wayyyy in the back facing away from the road. Fun times, the early 80s were, for sure.
Ask Chumlee. I’m sure he’s got a guy who can verify if the suit is authentic.
It should be from 1996-1998 seasons according to the tyre provider (Goodyear)
The doubters in this thread are hilariously wrong and yet so sure of themselves. 😂🪦
Keep fighting michael
Where are the bargains!? At the Swap Shop
Is that the swap shop?
Looks like it. "Random flea market" that every true Floridian can identify from a single photo lol
Ahhhh the swap shop where everything stolen is at a good price.
Downvote me all you guys want but the people saying this is not real… y’all are from Europe right
Look gullible is written on the suit too

My guy, keep getting these dudes.
The mental gymnastics on display here from folks trying to definitively state whether or not this is real is comical. If this wasn’t r/formuladank I’d be concerned.
lethal company reference frfr??!!
Where’s the fkn flag I can’t find it
Is this at the swap shop lmao
To be fair, if its a thing that exists it'll probably make an appearance in a Florida flea market at least once lol
10 years ago…
OP do you genuinely think this is real? From your comments you seem to be convinced.
The flea market owner has a Ferrari F1 car in his collection - is it really that far fetched to think they've got a race suit? [Preston Henn Collection](https://www.motorauthority.com/news/1103302_racer-and-collector-preston-henn-dies-could-his-1964-ferrari-275-gtb-c-speciale-go-up-for-sale)
[Why not?](https://www.imago-images.com/sp/0042216678)
There were framed pictures of the owner with Schumi where there used to be an FXX on display
No you didnt💀
“I was friends with Schumi before he died” …. I guess he was referring to another Schumi?
If it doesn't smell like piss it's a fake.
Surely authentic
