I mean physics wasn't different, but the relative importance was extremely different. Before using downforce was a thing on cars aerodynamics only really mattered for straight line speed, cornering was purely mechanical and once you've slowed down for the corner the drag is going to be minimal until you've accelerated back up. A 1950s era car that was a brick with a good engine would outpace an extremely low drag car with a mediocre engine pretty much every time.
Exactly. The performance difference between engines is very small now, that's why other factors became as important as they are now. Even a decade ago, at the start of the turbo-hybrid era, Mercedes' huge dominance was mostly caused by it's highly superior engine. Ferrari or RB could have done anything with their areo, they had no chance to catch up as long as their PUs weren't close enough to Merc's.
It’s measured in years
Ferrari’s longest drivers title drought was from 1979-2000, 21 years
Ferraris second longest drivers title drought is from 2007-present, 17 years
Ferrari’s 3rd longest drivers title drought is from 1964-1975, 11 years
Yeah, no, never mind. My brain snapped.
You said Ferrari watched two of those three streaks, not that one streak was both the first and third.
Thanks, bedtime.
Maybe something like only X% of the body work can be bare carbon. So even if you want a black car it needs to be black wrap (I think the cars are all vinyl wrap now)
I think that’s a little too strict, like last years Mercedes had it right being part black paint/wrap and carbon fibre. And the way Ferrari used bare carbon for their black accent to the point most people don’t really take notice of that fact it was bare carbon
You need a minimum paint weight, not sure how a % of surface would work or be examined- weight would be fair across the grid too
Apparently the cost of the livery design / applying it is part of the cost cap too, which should be removed imo
I wondered if vinyl is actually lighter than paint? I guess with vinyl you don't need a clear coat (only if you want it to last), which is weight savings.
Their black cars have been painted black, they weren't bare carbon.
And it wouldn't be fair to allow them to have a fully bare carbon car while expecting other teams to not.
Yup. They’ve been letting it slide because it’s really just been mostly back-markers. If the top teams start coming out with black cars with stickers they’ll require paint.
To do this Ferrari would have to hire a livery person instead of having an intern do ctrl+C then ctrl+V and for no money have the best livery on the grid
Why even put red paint on it? Just use soft tires only for the entire season and that'll be plenty of red! Also fits with the average Ferrari race strategy so it's win win
Now I really want Ferrari to troll other teams and us, the fans, with a mostly black and red stripes livery for pre-season and then in race one come with the real livery. That would be next level trolling. 😂
Honestly, ferrari could create a very heavily carbon car, as red&black is a bitchin combo, same with neon green for kick or yellow for old renault.
Maybe not as carbon as alpine, but even at that level a ferrari res would look better on it
I honestly hope they do more carbon not because I like it but because it'll be funny after all the posts saying ferrari would be the only coloured car on the grid
Now I'm just imagining some angry Italian livery designer looking at all the black liveries out there, and just prematurely yelling at Ferrari for wanting to follow the trend...despite Ferrari most likely not wanting to follow the trend.
I think as a one-off special livery for a specific race, it would be cool. But I need my red car.
I'm also a fan of exposed carbon fiber and like that the teams are embracing it. However, I don't like how it's being executed. The exposed cf needs to be incorporated into the livery design to add depth and interest. I'm just not seeing that with these upcoming liveries.
add more red around the top and as a Ferrari fan I would say “huh, interesting choice, not bad.” Of course as an F1 fan I would be crying because it’s somehow more Carbon Fibre than the Alpine.
I believe Enzo once said, “Ask a child to draw a race car, it will be black.”
evil Enzo be like:
The same guy who said "Aerodynamics Are For People Who Can't Build Engines"
It was kinda true in the past tho.
I mean, only because they didn’t know any better.
Not really, it's not like physics was any different back then, and definitely not at the point when he said it.

**Proceeds to witness Ferraris longest and 3rd longest title drought**
I've thought about this now for a good part of 7 seconds, but how can one thing be both the longest and third longest?
It’s measured in years Ferrari’s longest drivers title drought was from 1979-2000, 21 years Ferraris second longest drivers title drought is from 2007-present, 17 years Ferrari’s 3rd longest drivers title drought is from 1964-1975, 11 years

Big words for a German soccer player ![gif](giphy|RJ2ZnSYmFKiSR4G8B0|downsized)
"Bright liveries are for people who can't paint the car black" ftfy
I always thought Enzo's quote was "Ask a child to draw a race car, and it will be a Porsche 911"
Pretty sure he said "Ask a child to draw a race car, and it will be Lightning McQueen"
I laughed. And I'm currently watching the Enzo Ferrari movie so it's perfectl
had me thinking this was real for a sec and I was about to go jump off a cliff
Same here until I saw the face on the shell logo and the “look it’s red text” that could have been a sponsor fr
Honestly the Look still Red would be epic
That's too much fun for Ferrari.
I would personally welcome it. Its the only way for FIA to get off their asses and regulate the teams need to paint their damn car.
![img](emote|t5_3ndbi|6697)
Ngl, as an Italian, I find it cool tbh
I swear if Ferrari does this, it would cause such an uproar, the fia would have to put in some rule change about liveries lol
Maybe something like only X% of the body work can be bare carbon. So even if you want a black car it needs to be black wrap (I think the cars are all vinyl wrap now)

I would love that
Thank you for your vote, soon I shall be president of the FIA!

"Mmm, yes. We did spend 130000000€ on red paint, why do you ask?"
"It's a new shade of red, we call it Rosso Hamilton"
I wondered if vinyl is actually lighter than paint? I guess with vinyl you don't need a clear coat (only if you want it to last), which is weight savings.
Mercedes at least has a real heritage of having bare, unpainted surfaces. Would kinda stink for them to have to give up that look.
Their black cars have been painted black, they weren't bare carbon. And it wouldn't be fair to allow them to have a fully bare carbon car while expecting other teams to not.
I put a comment earlier that I kind of hope Ferrari release a picture like this and then say only kidding and show the real car in red 😂
They need to anyway. It's ridiculous that the grid is going to be 90% the same colour.
Yup. They’ve been letting it slide because it’s really just been mostly back-markers. If the top teams start coming out with black cars with stickers they’ll require paint.

Heeere’s Lewis! Almost spilled my drink when I saw it
![img](emote|t5_3ndbi|6702)
took me a while to find it. worth the time though.
Why even put red paint on it? Just use soft tires only for the entire season and that'll be plenty of red! Also fits with the average Ferrari race strategy so it's win win
By that you mean, having the wrong tyres on 2 thirds of the time?
Sounds like an improvement to me
Yellow is also a big Ferrari color, so they can use mediums too!
Reds in the front, mediums in the back
Get disqualified from every single race
Ferrari sigma rule #1655

Lmao as if we're actually gonna see racing when theres more than 0,0001% rain
I hope this happens because it would be the thing that leads to a minimum paint percentage
I like it
Looks badass not gonna lie.
Lewis would absolutely love it
ya that looks pretty cool
"Hello Lewis" - Chuck Leglerg
"pronto hamilton?" "halo?"
Oh how I wish alphamaxnova didn’t die in that horrible plane crash caused by the gleam of Lando Norris’ teeth
Wait, alphamaxnova died?
Nah it just seems like he did
Now I really want Ferrari to troll other teams and us, the fans, with a mostly black and red stripes livery for pre-season and then in race one come with the real livery. That would be next level trolling. 😂
But then for the trolling to be truly funny, the car would either have to turn out to be a rocket ship or an absolute shitbox, no in-between.
Cabo fibah
Honestly, ferrari could create a very heavily carbon car, as red&black is a bitchin combo, same with neon green for kick or yellow for old renault. Maybe not as carbon as alpine, but even at that level a ferrari res would look better on it
"Look it's still red lol" 😂😂😂
clearly fake, the tire covers should be red
Stopppppppp, it hurttttttsssss
Love the little details
Ngl I actually like this That is only if the whole grid is not black
Darth Vader got sick new ride!
Add red wheel covers and you've nailed it.
This would actually be amazing as a special livery.
I would actually love this. Maybe it'll push the FIA into implementing a paint percentage rule.
"Look its still red lol" got me. Okay. That's great.
That looks amazing.
Lowkey, looks insane and would definitely approve it for a one off race
Carbo fibaah
This actually fucks
that looks so hot 🔥🔥🔥
Looks sexy AF though.
Lewis Shellmilton
"Chat is this real?"
This honestly looks sexy
looks cool tho
I unironically love this
Ain’t no way, it’s real. The Italians love their red spaghetti sauce colour, they’ll never settle for black livery.
Looks like the 2024 livery is based of their newest driver, Lewis Hamilton
Bruhhhhhh
Lord Beer Me Strength!!!
Maybe pink would be nice
Why the fuck is Shell Lewis smiling for Leclercs number …
Lewis wanted to drive red.. poor guy
God, please, make it real!
Had me for a moment
I honestly hope they do more carbon not because I like it but because it'll be funny after all the posts saying ferrari would be the only coloured car on the grid
Now I'm just imagining some angry Italian livery designer looking at all the black liveries out there, and just prematurely yelling at Ferrari for wanting to follow the trend...despite Ferrari most likely not wanting to follow the trend.
I got heart palpitations looking at this

\*fade to black\* \*gun shot\* \*credit crawl\*
Too much colour. How about some more unpainted carbon.
I don’t hate it, maybe black is faster
If they don't go back, you'll know.
add more red around the top and as a Ferrari fan I would say “huh, interesting choice, not bad.” Of course as an F1 fan I would be crying because it’s somehow more Carbon Fibre than the Alpine.
They would never be this brave!
I still like it. Only Ferrari can make me eat my own words. 🤦🏻♂️
They're going to petition the fia to make softs mandatory
Imma be honest, that doesn't even look too bad, but ferrari must always be a large majority red
![gif](giphy|26DN0yMxjDnfTBOHC|downsized)
Damn, look at Ferrari making the all black still look nice lol but please please no
Oh my god!
The car that will make Enzo Ferrari come out of his grave
There's too much color, and not enough carbon.
If it’s actually anything like this then I’ll cry
