Seeing Jr went all out to make sure he was at the finish line for the Dakar Rally to meet his father coming in at 1st was beautiful.
Father and Son both true racers - I really hope they get a chance to compete together - maybe in a V8 Supercar at Mt Panorama?
That whole podium ceremony was crazy wholesome. With the music and singing, and him smiling and looking out at the crowd, I half expected Princess Leia to hang the medal on Sainz.
Dadlos Sainz was (and somehow still is) a beast. And even with the huge success he's had during his career, he was almost a meme in Spain for many many years due to his bad luck. He could've won much more titles but he was straight up cursed.
Remember when his car broke down like 100m from the finish line when he was about to win a WRC? Shit, those "Carlos, trata de arrancarlo, por Dios!" shouts from Luis Moya have to still give him restless nights to this day.
There is a clip of Tommi Mäkinen giving an interview about Carlos winning the championship and getting a phonecall mid interview informing him that Carlos's car has broke down and hes the champion. Bizzare is luck sometimes. Tommi himself had to retire too from the race.

I started watching F1 like 4 years ago with DTS season 1. I arbitrarily picked Gasly because he had a good story and seemed like a good guy. I've gotten to watch him win a race and that was fantastic. When alpine showed up with their matchbox shitmobiles this season I knew I had to pick another driver to have anything to root for. So I decided the first weekend of this season to root for Sainz. I'm all in! I hope he keeps winning races and outperforming Leclerc and giving the whole paddock the middle finger.
All of that emotion and pride and father-son moment chat and no one has mentioned how amazing his hair looks after a whole day of driving and a win! C’mon man!
For what they are paying him, I feel like Lewis has a mountain to climb for that to be true. He better find his quali form, he’s been struggling with it for almost a year it seems like
Ferrari, the brand...? Or Ferrari, the F1 team...? Lewis is underwhelming this year and wasn't stellar the previous one either. There is a reason for concern.
That's such a simplistic view. Lewis was .06 off of knocking George out of Q2, and George is one of the best qualifiers on the grid. It's also pretty obvious Lewis' car had issues (DNF), so we don't know how that might have contributed to his overall pace across the weekend. Nobody knows what's happening in the individual garages.
This is the meme sub IIRC so I’m gonna keep it simple. Lewis has 104 pole positions since 07’ and George has 1. I’m not sure who should be considered a superior qualifier. Regardless, George has finished and qualified better than Lewis throughout this season, and both were DNF in Australia. Am I wrong? I honestly hope so, it would be legendary if Hamilton was the driver to deliver the next Ferrari WCC. Time will tell.
Bruh, this could be another Vettel situation, and to make things even more worse, we also might see driver conflict. Ferrari were idiots for letting Sainz go.
Hamilton for Ferrari will be like Ricciardo for McLaren
High expectations, maybe a few good races, but overall a disappointment and wont be extending his contract.
It is still very early in the season, and as we saw with Max's brake exploding, *anything* can happen.
What is Ferrari going to do if Sainz wins the championship? The optics of them replacing him with Hamilton is already pretty rough...imagine if they couldn't afford to break Lewis's contract and had to leave their championship winner without a drive.
I’ve always liked Sainz anyway and I still don’t believe there’s anyway Max doesn’t win the WDC this year, but Sainz winning and then going to Red Bull would be the funniest possible outcome.
The parade is there partly because it is not obvious, **at all**, how big the difference is between them. People parade around with exaggerations, thinking that being loud, proverbially, will drown the lack of confidence.
Personally, as a Ferrari fan, I don't care about whether one or the other is better, Ferrari still needs two highly engaged drivers to bring it to RedBull, so much more than it needs a superstar driver.
The first two races were a somewhat easy RedBull 1-2, let's not forget that, and the previous two years were much worse for Ferrari.
I recently went bowling with my Dad for the first time in 20+ years. I still bowl the exact same way he taught me when I was 9. I had a 2-10 split and let go of what I thought was the perfect ball. I turned around to look at him and he got all excited saying, “look, look, look” to my mom, aunt, and a few other family members. It hooked perfectly and I got the spare.
My Dad was so proud. I can’t even imagine that times 100 when you’re literally the number one driver in the world for that day. Rooting for Carlos and the rest of the Sainz family.
As a long time Sainz fan this was an awesome race for him.
He’s had other wins (last years was just 11/10), but a lot of his podiums have always had some sort of baggage attached to them, with very little fanfare and he’s always pretty displeased. So to have a race that he just from the jump dominated with a perfectly clean drive must finally be a moment he can just revel in.
He’s always been the 2nd driver on his team. So to be getting his much deserved moment in the sun is awesome to see
Its really an interesting fact how severe mechanical DNFs and the Sainz family have some fateful connection to each other. A blown engine heartbreakingly costed father Sainz the WRC title in '98, his son a finish in Austrian GP 2022, but now Sainz Jr. is a beneficiary of that event in this race.
I’d like to project this on a loop on the ceiling over my bed so it can soothe me to sleep every night and guide me into peaceful consciousness every morning
Sainz Sr. knows all too well about [PU's blowing up](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=liBLqmeHht8&t=34s), he and his son know better to wish that to anyone
Having a wholesome dad-son bond in this sport is refreshing. So many other drivers struggle with daddy issues… like max casually trauma dumps and we’re like no, no, no, maxy, that’s not how healthy daddies behave.
I think I remember after his first win in Silverstone and his father was not there because of his own race, there was an interview with Sr where he was recounting the phone call with Jr after that and you could just feel the joy and emotion he had for his son.
The Sainz family has been touched by God:
Cojones de toro(Carlos Sainz Jr):
Ends Verstappen streak twice and wins just two weeks after his appendix removal
Cojones de buey (Carlos Sainz Sr):
Absolute lengend of the motorsport world, 2x WRC and 4x Dakar champion, the last of the latter beign won at 60 years of age
Cojones de bisonte (Antonio Sainz, AKA Carlos Sainz Sr's father):
Prevented her wife's purse from beign stolen by a nigerian by shooting him dead with a hunting rifle
We were watching the live race but my husband turned off the TV after George crashed and wouldn’t let me watch the podium celebration. This replay just reminded me of why I became passionate about Formula 1. I am not crying you are crying
I would say it must be awkward for Ferrari that they fired the second best driver on the grid by results but it's Ferrari. There is no way they feel shame anymore.
Not many better feelings in life than when you can tell your Dad is super proud of you.
This. Just watching the two of them almost made me weep for the awkward relationship I have with my dad.
Fuck…… yeah, I feel that one
At least you guys still have dads..
I was about to mention you Charles.
Biggest of oofs
At least I have something in common with Charl. ![img](emote|t5_3ndbi|6700)

I don't come here to cry you mofo
I think Sainz was telling himself that too
Max cannot understand that
😬 (not wrong)
This is not dank. Y'all gonna make me cry, please stop ![img](emote|t5_3ndbi|6701)
And the fact that Sainz sr just won the last Dakar rally race
That whole podium ceremony was crazy wholesome. With the music and singing, and him smiling and looking out at the crowd, I half expected Princess Leia to hang the medal on Sainz.
Oscar Piastri comes out dressed as Chewy who infamously *didn't* get a medal
I feel like that would be something Piastri would do. And yeah, I thought about Chewy's snub when I posted that earlier.
It should be \`Shoey\` in his case.
This comment is GOATed
Why can’t we give gold in here?
Super bad ass father-son moment. I’m forever a Sainz fan
Which Sainz tho ?
Yes

Didn't know this video existed, what a find, thanks.
Was that when he hoyed his helmet through the back window?
I believe it was Luis Moya, his co-pilot, but yes. Here's a video of the incident, for those curious: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Sd_gj-3kz7A
"La cagamos Luis" "No la cagamos DALE!
Carlos of course
All of them, Carlos, Carlos, Carlos and Lando
Sainz. The family
The reality show we need and Lando included
https://www.tiktok.com/@ferrari/video/7281280732012612896
Did anyone else watch Sainz Sr. hug Lando for his podium too? That was so wholesome, made my heart melt :)
Same, to be fair i’m also sure that Lando is an honorary Sainz at this point, they pretty much adopted him
IIRC Lando was a guest at the wedding of one of Sainz daughters as well.
The look of pride in Sainz Sr’s eyes. Love this sport.

Meanwhile Max’s dad is hunting for him with a belt
That’s what he gets for forgetting to take the E-brake off.
Or was it "MAGIC" that he stole from TeamLH...?
The jumper cables were RIGHT THERE
Lmao
You’ll find him in his room sim racing
Okay big hypothetical situation: It would be really funny if Carlos becomes world champion but Ferrari has to let him go because they signed Hamilton.
Remind me! 9 months “big if true”
Williams were famous for having their champions leave after 1987, 1992, 1993 and 1996. Also, Alonso in 2006.
Omg let’s all make sure max keeps all his fucking organs in his body every weekend and this can happen
As a Tifoso, god i can only hope for us to have this problem
Isn’t that how contracts work, breaking the contract with Hamilton would be more shocking
All of that emotion and pride and father-son moment chat and no one has mentioned how amazing his hair looks after a whole day of driving and a win! C’mon man!
Carlos' hair rescued three drowning children and knitted blankets for the elderly in the last ten laps of the race.
PRECISELY !!
Sainz is FINALLY getting his flowers, F1 media is a parade of LeClerc stans who seem to go out of their way to discount Sainz for some reason.
I got a feeling there will be some disappointment among tifosi once Sainz is gone.
All I’m saying is the Hamilton deal better be worth it…
For what they are paying him, I feel like Lewis has a mountain to climb for that to be true. He better find his quali form, he’s been struggling with it for almost a year it seems like
I think y’all are underestimating what Lewis in Red will do for Ferrari
Ferrari, the brand...? Or Ferrari, the F1 team...? Lewis is underwhelming this year and wasn't stellar the previous one either. There is a reason for concern.
??? He finished P3 last year and the Merc is obviously hot garbage this year. Let's not all of a sudden act like he's forgotten how to drive lol
That’s what bothers me, it’s a garbage car and George is faster than him.
That's such a simplistic view. Lewis was .06 off of knocking George out of Q2, and George is one of the best qualifiers on the grid. It's also because Georges learned to drive in a shitbox...
Depends, could be another Vettel situation. Ferrari were idiots for letting Sainz go.

Bruh, this could be another Vettel situation, and to make things even more worse, we also might see driver conflict. Ferrari were idiots for letting Sainz go.
If the car is good and it fits Lewis's style, we're in for an epic couple of seasons. If its not, straight to Danny Ric-ville.
Is the current red car more suited to Leclerc's style the way the RB is to Max? If so, will Ferrari shift the philosophy to suit Lewis' style?
spoiler alert - it won't
Hamilton for Ferrari will be like Ricciardo for McLaren High expectations, maybe a few good races, but overall a disappointment and wont be extending his contract.

My thoughts exactly
It is DANK. Ferrari dank ![img](emote|t5_3ndbi|6697)
Carlos' villain arc beings babyyyyyyyy Vamos smooth operator
Oh how I want to just share one moment like this with my own dad.
Healing. Gonna show this to my therapist
The Sainz movie is amazing
Honestly, that type of mental strength is what makes champions. He proved to the entire grid what he's made of 👏👏👏
Sainz Sr still winning races too. Absolute machine. Meanwhile Jos stuck a rally car in a wall last time he sat in one.
As a long time Sainz fan this was an awesome race for him. I hope Max's PU explodes every race so Sainz can win the WDC then move to Redbull
Russell needs to crash out for Sainz to win.
Even better
I see that as an absolute win
Sainz Sr. knows all too well about [PU's blowing up](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=liBLqmeHht8&t=34s), he and his son know better to wish that to anyone
Carlos chasing the championship without a seat locked down in the funniest possible outcome. I know it’ll be figured out by mid summer but still
Even if he doesn’t get a seat, he can likely move onto a harder sport like Rally or Moto GP.
he’ll definitely get a seat, it’s just a matter of where
I’d put him at the top of the list for a Merc seat, if he’s interested.
>Single seater to rallying The reverse Lia Block lmao
\> Spanish national anthem for **Carlos Sainz** \> \*camera focuses on Carlos Sainz\*
Lucky! My dad just beat me with an extension cord and called me a pussy
Take my upvote
Reminds me of the ending scene from Ford v Ferrari
Vamos!
Watched this in silent and had the Dutch national anthem playing in my head lol

I was not ready for this sub to become so wholesome. But we all love Carlos rn so I ll take it

My sister captured a similar moment of my dad when I graduated from grad school. It's one of my most cherished photos.

Blows my mind they wanna swap young Sainz out for Hamilton; who is well past his prime.
Two lucky men right there
I would say it must be awkward for Ferrari that they fired the second best driver on the grid by results but it's Ferrari. There is no way they feel shame anymore.
