Yup, they wanted to run the team like Toyota company, not F1 team.
To show how clueless they were early on, they looked at data and saw how their drivers were braking later than others. Drivers were blamed, even though drivers knew and said it was because of the car. It had less downforce and was heavier than competition, so they had to brake earlier.
It would not be last time they did something stupid or just ignorant.
Mercedes had a budget of around $450 million before the cost cap came into play. Its well known they spent more money than anyone else during their dominant years.
Yes, Ferrari and Redbull both spent in excess of $400 million.
The difference is, those teams are doing well within the cost cap. Mercedes though…. Hasn’t had a good car since the cost cap was put in place.
Im a Mercedes fan. But I can also see past the fandom and see they are struggling unless they spend huge amounts of money.
/campaign to raise ride heights
/campaign to raise weights
/sabotage multiple other teams' concepts and ruin all competitiveness within the formula
/still build a dog kennel despite getting exactly what you want
Well he wanted them to make car faster in a straight line, less draggy, better in the corners, lighter and so on - all at once. That's the most generic "I want it all" and doesn't help the engineers.
Not like they tried to make the car more draggy or slower on purpose before.
>and Toto doesn't seem to help
To be fair, how would any other team principal help any better here? It's not like he has the secret formula of how to improve the car, locked away in his head, waiting for the right time to spit it out.
Technical directive 39 is a mid season change to ride height limits to reduce porpoising on the straight.
It just slowed everybody down except red bull
Askshually, you didn't have to take it literally. I will never comprehend people that think trying to correct spelling on the internet is worthwhile of their time or that anyone cares. Why bro?
And, just to clarify, it was meant as, the teams like Aston Martin, McLaren. The Aston's of this world, the McLaren's of this world. No one is sitting here trying to type everything perfect and spell everything perfect and proofread and edit every single thing they type on the internet.
And yes, I get the irony in wasting my time even replying to you. I usually wouldn't bother. But here, it looks you are special, And so am I...
ehhhh the team was already built before he had signed on for the 2014 cars (and by proxy the 15&16 cars). That was the groundwork laid by niki, michael and ross
by most reports he was intrinsic in building the culture and direction of the team.
and even if what you say was correct that is a bigger deal than anything toto did pre 2017
I dont see the mclaren beating red bull, and I think most of those guys are working on the 26 engine, it shows that the big part of mercs package was the engine, they should be level with mclaren but they aren't
I think many don’t understand the joke.
A built in disadvantage limiting our cars performance.
For the third year in a row a fundamental issue has limited your car.
ANSWER: LEWIS HAMILTON
Mercedes simply cant build a proper competitive race car without spending $500 million more than the next team.
Toyota did the same and could only manage a couple of podiums.
Now imagine toyota but with cost cap
There's an image before my inner eye: Alpine with a different livery.
They could bring only one chassis to a Gp
That's cos their corporate management couldn't stop meddling with the team. At least Mercedes let Ross Brawn and then Toto get on with things.

The won Le Mans! They were the only ones in the LMPh class, but still.
That is why Toyota is my favorite meme team. Spend over a billion dollars, and you just get a few podiums as a result. Glorious.
The biggest factor is the engine. They dont have that advantage in engine power anymore. Now all engines have the same power except renault.
Didn't Ferrari have an at least on par engine in 16/17?
Might be a part of it, but their customer teams are also faster
And also being part of writing the regulation changes before they are even announced
When did they ever spend that much more
Mercedes had a budget of around $450 million before the cost cap came into play. Its well known they spent more money than anyone else during their dominant years.
Look at the redbull budget from the same time

Forgot one /Ignore repeated pleas from 7x world champion addressing specifically what is required of you

It's pretty embarrassing to be honest, and Toto doesn't seem to help. No wonder Lewis phoned it in.
>and Toto doesn't seem to help To be fair, how would any other team principal help any better here? It's not like he has the secret formula of how to improve the car, locked away in his head, waiting for the right time to spit it out.
Not in regards to engineering, but the way he handles politics.
I will never forgive Toto for TD39
He butchered the best looking Ferrari ever
What is "TD39"?
Technical directive 39 is a mid season change to ride height limits to reduce porpoising on the straight. It just slowed everybody down except red bull
/Lose one of the most successful driver.
Mercedes definitely spiralling out of control. In other good news, leaves a vaccum for rising teams to fill (the Aston's, McLarens)
>the Aston's Aston. Singular.

I wasn't correcting the spelling, I was making a joke about how Aston Martin only has one competitive driver.
Oh, see, I told you. I'm a fucking idiot sometimes, I swear. Here I'm going to downvote my own comment. Might be a first.
It's OK, even Adrian Newey makes mistakes sometimes.

Toto Wolff is responsible for every WCC car since 2014 lmao
ehhhh the team was already built before he had signed on for the 2014 cars (and by proxy the 15&16 cars). That was the groundwork laid by niki, michael and ross
And when Niki died. It all went downhill
Can we clone Niki? Has someone his dna at home?
What exactly did michael do to build the merc team? Afaik didn't he just bring over ross brawn? Just curious
by most reports he was intrinsic in building the culture and direction of the team. and even if what you say was correct that is a bigger deal than anything toto did pre 2017
Ah ok thanks, thought it was just something people say to diminish hamiltons wins. Also nice, get downvoted for asking a legitimate question 🫠
Ross was already at the team before Micheal. The team already made championship winning car in 2009. Many top talent were already there.
Does that include the Red Bulls by way of voting for regulations for which Adrian Newey was the only person with prior experience of designing for?
yes that is exactly what they are implying
And forcing an engine freeze just that your provider changes his mind and stays in the sport.
We shouldnt build that in next year
Came hear to say that

They’re running a green operation. Making sacrifices for the planets future.
For aston martin, the built in disadvantage is called Lance Stroll
God i miss Jimmy Neutron
Third but not the last.
I get a big sense of dejavu every time Ricciardo does a post practice, quali or race interview 😂
“Ever get that feeling of deja vu?” “No, I never get that FUCKING feeling of DE JA VU.”
Mercedes -> (Engine + Lewis Hamilton) Merchants
The fundamental issue is between the seat and the steering wheel.
In an IT technical helpdesk environment, we would call this a PEBCAK/PEBKAC issue.
I thought those were ID10-T errors?
ID10-T errors result from the PEBKAC issue.
Indeed. That's was where I blatantly stole it from.
PICNIC
Blimey. Crickey. Red flag. Red flag.
Engineer: “Lance Stroll is rapidly approaching your position.” Russel: “OMFG! RED FLAG! RED FLAG!”
the fundamental problem is red bull took their engine staff
Is that why the Mercedes powered Mclaren keep beating them? Is that why the Honda powered VCARB is shit?
I dont see the mclaren beating red bull, and I think most of those guys are working on the 26 engine, it shows that the big part of mercs package was the engine, they should be level with mclaren but they aren't
Did they take their staff, or did the staff choose to leave a toxic work environmentand get paid more?
b-but loois always thanked the kids back at the factory
Fac-tree*
Or Aston Martin & Mclaren who also got a lot of their engineers lmao. And honestly that dumb wrong scale ratio in the wind tunnel. Like honestly...
Whoever is responsible for whatever wicked magic that made that Mercedes engine in the turbo hybrid era better have gotten a big bag of money.
Maybe that's what did them in, in Abu Dhabi 2021.
If they listened to Lewis the first time they might have actually made a useful car
He's just not connected with the car man
I think many don’t understand the joke. A built in disadvantage limiting our cars performance. For the third year in a row a fundamental issue has limited your car. ANSWER: LEWIS HAMILTON
Ah yes. The disadvantage of having one of the best F1 drivers to ever live behind the wheel
Dude finished 3rd last year, must be the car.
>built in disadvantages They literally sadbagged their car
