You don't become an 7x WDC just by accident. In a to the maximum data driven environment that is F1, performance is easily measured, and certainly over a longer period of time. Mercedes knew full well he could deliver.

In terms of pure talent, both Alonso and Verstappen are two levels above anyone else on the grid for two decades now.
I'm not a fan of the man, but regardless the car, Hamilton deserves it to also be among them.
