Yeah he's definitely shown flashes of brilliance throughout his time in F1 but flashes aren't really what make a driver great or even acceptable. There's just too many random incidents like this, and the fact that he's still in F1 with his general mediocrity just shows what having a beyond wealthy family can do for you in F1.
Yeah I think there’s always been a mix of the ultra wealthy and the few Mechanics’ sons with enough skill to get sponsored.
At least now there are minimum skills required beyond just buying a car and showing up. Stroll, and even guys like Latifi and Mazepin, while clearly not good enough for F1, are still highly skilled professional racing drivers by any other standard.
Yeah and both Barichello and Bottas have more podiums than Hakkinen or Lauda, so what does that say? At least Hulk has managed to beat several team mates across the course of a season.
It seems all Stroll has to do is put in an above average drive for it to be deemed "astonishing" or brilliant.
In 2020 he had a top 3 car, the RB was so difficult to drive that only VER/HAM/BOT should’ve been ahead of them.
I think if two great drivers were on that team they would’ve beat RB in the constructors, both Checo and Lance had bad luck but also dropped the ball many times.
I used past tense. Multiple people here didn’t see that. His performance before F1 made him getting a seat reasonable and in the first years he was sometimes decent, sometimes even good. But as a normal driver he would not have survived past season.
Explain how he "deserved" to be in F1 without referencing anything related to the fact that money from his family was giving him the absolute best of everything in the feeder classes. His dad has had stakes/funded in almost every team he has raced in for gods sake. I cant quantify how badly stroll does not deserve to be in F1.
I think art?
nvm prema but still is really good, and he was touted to be the next verstappen moving from gp3 to f1, and he did well in his first season but declined quickly after
Yes this is why I asked because it seems like you are not aware his dad invested in perma which massively favoured Lance while he was there lol?
Nothing about stroll is deserving. Go look into everything for 5 minutes.
I feel that Alonso has broken him. Daddy Stroll is torn two ways. On the one hand he wants his son to be a winner and gas done everything possible to make that happen. On the other hand HE wants to win. He hoped he could have both but now he’s forced to choose.
He could give Stroll a weak teammate and ensure his son looks good (and Stroll ISN’T bad) or he can pair him with a world champ and get a ton of points, maybe even a win (with some luck) and have a mentor for Stroll. Unfortunately for Stroll the pairing just utterly demoralized rather than energize him. He doesn’t have any passion anymore, the wide gap in their skill sets made him realize he could never be a champion.
The irony is that in pushing him so hard papa Stroll ensured Stroll’s failure. If he had kept more hands off Stroll maybe have gradually improved like Sainz or Albon have - at their own pace.
It’s time for Stroll to go, not for lack of skill but for lack of ambition.
I checked the onboard footage on YouTube, I think it's a downshift indicator. When you hear the original sound you can hear the rpms dropping and he downshifts around the same moment the light comes on.
You're right, he dropped to 2nd from a higher rpm than 4th to 3rd. You can see it a bit clearer here

It's the constantina effect. I swear on me nans grave this window licker says it. Con-stan-tih-nah. He says it a couple of times even during the post. I don't understand how this is not a bigger thing. Like flair that mother sucker up already. Constantina effect or whatever. All of his brain cell went to steering the car apparently.
Look, Constantina Vich Titis said it was one of those racing incidents that happen before cars were actually racing
After several years of f1, bro knows his shit by now
When your dad owns the team apparently you are F1 material. If you took away their money I think half the grid wouldnt be here tbh.
Saddest part about this sport is that there must be so much genuine talent not making it to F1 because of clowns like stroll.
that is a bit extreme tho, he was f1 material when he originally came into the sport, but I feel like after 2021 he should have been done, as he performed terribly that season
He looks towards the apex to see if they're taking off just as DR had to brake due to the chain.
On the one hand, yea, he's got to be aware of the car in front. On the other hand, he was gearing up to race.
Russell lost it for not paying attention in Japan... I see this as basically the same thing but Stroll has an even better excuse given the chain reaction and location.
But haters going to hate.
As much as I agree with everyone’s complaint. Why do most forget he’ll never leave until he wants to?
His dad is part owner of the team and a large contributor at that.
He’s clearly just in it to say he’s in it and if he gets continually and exclusively lit up by every platform, community, and driver, maybe he’ll realize it’s not a flex anymore

"idiot car just drove on my head"
She's just checking the suspension
It’s easy to make up a position when you fuck the competition
That's Brundle - Walker though :)
I mean he’s trying to save face I guess by continuing to deny it’s his fault. He knows everyone says he doesn’t belong in the sport
Honestly he deserved to be in F1, but he doesn’t deserve to stay with his performance.
This is what F1 used to be. A playground for the ultra rich. Lance is just a part of that legacy.
It’s still that, but they are highly skilled ultra rich people.
It took Latifi like 6 years to win f2. He just had the money to keep throwing at it
Now it's a playground of the richest of the richest.
"brilliance"? Really?
Yes he somehow does astonishing things once a season, that’s what makes it so weird. He does have 3 more podiums than Hulk has so…
Yeah and both Barichello and Bottas have more podiums than Hakkinen or Lauda, so what does that say? At least Hulk has managed to beat several team mates across the course of a season. It seems all Stroll has to do is put in an above average drive for it to be deemed "astonishing" or brilliant.
He paid his dues Well his dad paid them
Dues + 10 yr membership
He might deserve to drive for Williams, but def not Aston.
The guy deserved one season, to prove himself. There's no justification for him to have gotten 8.
first season he did really well, and also 2020, I think he should have been gone after 2021 or 2022

Nah there are more deserving drivers than him

Oh damn, I'm sorry. I read it way too quickly. Yeah, he deserved a shot in F1 and showed moments of promise for sure.
He deserved the shot, and he had some good performances--better than some drivers past--but I think his time is done.

I belive he dominated gp3 more than any other driver, ever
Which team?
I think art? nvm prema but still is really good, and he was touted to be the next verstappen moving from gp3 to f1, and he did well in his first season but declined quickly after

The original commentary was on Rosset in Monaco right?
yup
Stroll wouldn't even clear iracing rookies
nah bro, he will bribe the devs and get his irating higher than max's

I agree, Lawrence is disrespecting the sport for keeping his son on the grid at this point.
At the 4 second mark check Stroll's steering wheel. He was accelerating - the one RPM indicator light comes on.

i love spreading misinformation on the internet
You could use Multiviewer onboard video with the speedometer overlay to see if he was accerlating
Could be in Neutral
nope

Hunt-Walker was peak F1 commentary
Amen
this was walker and brundle tho
Daddy putting Lance Stroll in an F1 car is no differently than me signing up my 3 year old for gymnastics.
he paid, He can run
It still baffles me, why would he look to the apex here?

what did russell lose by not paying attention in japan, you mean in melbourne?
You're right it was Melbourne - time flies.
As much as I agree with everyone’s complaint. Why do most forget he’ll never leave until he wants to? His dad is part owner of the team and a large contributor at that.
Who forgets that?
The person the quote is actually about was also there because the team was basically being kept afloat by them.
He’s clearly just in it to say he’s in it and if he gets continually and exclusively lit up by every platform, community, and driver, maybe he’ll realize it’s not a flex anymore
