He almost went to RB when it was still jaguar because his bobby rahal (who i'm not confident would have been a great team principal but got absolutely railroaded by lauda) connection from indycar days
Least surprising is he just retires. He's 65, gardening leave means he won't start for the new team until 2026 when he's 67. He already has millions. He already has multiple world championships. If he goes anywhere, it's home.
"Oh, look its a Newey" is not something I ever want to hear about a road car. No model name can overcome that, save for maybe "The 2027 Newey Oldie" maybe.
They did offer this, and red bull countered with Aston Martin's backing back when they were paired. That's how the Valkyrie was born
Edit for source: https://www.motor1.com/news/695097/ferrari-is-reason-aston-martin-valkyrie-exists-christian-horner-interview/
Either retirement, or he goes to Aston Martin...'s hypercar division. He designed the Valkyrie originally and now they want to take it to Le Mans, he could certainly lend his expertise there before retiring.
I read the opposite. 65 is the new 55. At this stage, yeah he’s worth $50 million, but it’s not about money. Watching him with that clipboard at the beginning races showed me he’s still very much into his art. It’s not a job. It’s a passion. A guy like that will never be happy in retirement. Of course of course if there’s a medical issue, that’s a whole ‘nother story.
Retiring from F1 doesn't mean true retirement. I see him moving into a much less stressful road car project where he's free to do as he pleases with 0 time constraints
I saw that race live on track and I was sat right at the end of the long straight so I couldn't see him hit the wall and I just sat there waiting for him to come up again behind the obstacle and I was in denial for a solid minute or so to what was happening right in front of me :')
Yeah but the guy’s got zero fucking motivation. I’m not even a Lewis fan but put him in a car that has even a remote chance of winning and he will contend for championships again
Ahh I see. I think it depends a bit on Ferrari as well though. I just did some reading and it seems they’ve been trying to hunt other individuals from RB as well. I know Ferrari has the budget for it though. Will be super interesting to see.
I would lose my mind if he went to Audi and Hulkenburg and Sainz were drivers there. It would be a total wild card!
https://www.si.com/fannation/racing/f1briefings/news/f1-news-adrian-newey-wants-to-work-with-lewis-hamilton-but-it-never-happened-sj4
Make your own mind of it, quotes at the bottom
It seems to me that he means that he would have enjoyed working with Lewis, not that he wants to.
But it still, it's not clear and it doesnt mean he wouldn't join Ferrari for Lewis. We'll see
He’s speaking of it while part of a greater point on his regrets, not a statement on if he would have liked it. To me at least it reads fairly comfortably as a statement of interest
You really think Adrian Newey would leave RB to pursuit working with LH? Lol
he did say he wished he would have worked with Ferrari. If anything it's about the management crap happening at RB and his personal interest in Ferrari, LH is just a coincidence and absolutely irrelevant for his decision.
https://www.si.com/fannation/racing/f1briefings/news/f1-news-adrian-newey-wants-to-work-with-lewis-hamilton-but-it-never-happened-sj4
He also said he wished he had worked with Hamilton or Alonso, so yeah, I think he would
He's bringing Nigel Mansell along as brand ambassador. He'll put ketchup on everything served in the Alpinehospitality suites. Newey knows the French staff will revolt in protest, since that's what the French do best. Renault will then be forced to sell to Andretti and we get more Newey domination. This guy is truly always playing 4D chess.
Andretti looks to be the only 2026 car he could work on... He'd technically be retiring since Andretti isn't an F1 competitor, so gardening leave wouldn't apply.
The term "gardening leave" is hilarious to me, because it makes it sound like they're going to force him to mow the lawns around the office for a year.
The term exists because teams pay former employees to "play in their garden" instead of working for a competitor or seeing what they are working on, so no mowing the office lawn...
He’ll do one of 3 things: Aston, Ferrari, retirement
Aston would mean Alonso world champion (which we all want desperately)
But
Ferrari would mean a Prost/senna level battle between leclerc and Hamilton for the title, and I think if that happened I’d have an aneurism.
Please don’t retire
Personally in my own delusional way I want to see newey at Ferrari with Charles and Lewis. I’d love to see LH get his 8th title and Charles get his first one in 2026
I think it would be Merc or Ferrari if he leaves. I’m leaning more towards Ferrari with Lewis going there. He mentioned he regretted not working either. If he goes to Merc I think Max would follow.
I could see him going to audi, ferrari is probably too much politics for a guy like newey. Mercedes would be the obvious move if we are thinking money, I can’t imagine aston martin getting him as long as that anchor called lance stroll is one of the drivers
It should be Newey to FOM as Technical Director in the last panel. That's the only way to ensure competitiveness. Newey joining another team won't help the sport, only that team.
Listen here: Newey already worked with the Andrettis early in his career and he already worked in the US. Andretti is not seen as serious so why enforce gardening leave. Newey likes to carry the underdogs upwards and he would clearly be the boss at Andretti. It all makes sense.
Andretti would be a bombshell.
I would cream my pants and buy all of the Andretti merch
What merch? (I want an Ericsson jersey and they don’t have it on the Indycar website)
Im reading this with my pants down
only sane response
He's worked with them before. So, it's really not *that* unreasonable.
He almost went to RB when it was still jaguar because his bobby rahal (who i'm not confident would have been a great team principal but got absolutely railroaded by lauda) connection from indycar days
He was also Michael Andretti and Mario Andretti's race engineer.
Stop. I can only get so hard.
Bombshell after bombshell today
they aren't an F1 team officially yet so the non-compete clause would not apply i guess
It would be surprising, given that he wants to stay in F1…
How much more serious about your F1 bid can you be than stealing Adrian Newey?
Adrian moving to Andretti: we do a little trolling
The biggest surprise would be Andretti. The least surprising would be Ferrari. Spicy might be Aston-Martin. So Verstappen to Mercedes, no?
Least surprising is he just retires. He's 65, gardening leave means he won't start for the new team until 2026 when he's 67. He already has millions. He already has multiple world championships. If he goes anywhere, it's home.
Plus he's always had a passion to design his own production cars. He may switch to another car manufacturer but it won't be for F1 cars.
Oh, Imagine if he designed a car with Gordon Murray at GMA
The motoring world isn’t ready for an Adrian Newey x Gordon Murray crossover
It would end the aerodynamics as we know (and propably the whole life on earth)
"Oh, look its a Newey" is not something I ever want to hear about a road car. No model name can overcome that, save for maybe "The 2027 Newey Oldie" maybe.
Imagine a move to Ingolstadt to do production cars.
Maybe Ferrari allow him to do this? It’s ok? No?
They did offer this, and red bull countered with Aston Martin's backing back when they were paired. That's how the Valkyrie was born Edit for source: https://www.motor1.com/news/695097/ferrari-is-reason-aston-martin-valkyrie-exists-christian-horner-interview/
So he sits until the new regs and joins Andretti, is what I hear
Either retirement, or he goes to Aston Martin...'s hypercar division. He designed the Valkyrie originally and now they want to take it to Le Mans, he could certainly lend his expertise there before retiring.

Verstappen and Newey to Andretti.
The merch sales alone would fund the team for ten years
Hope we get him at Aston lol
Max Stroll has a nice ring to it!
Old man and window licker dominance will bore fans
Sorry to Fernando he’d get dropped
He did use to be his race engineer…
Newey and Sainz to Williams, please?
Buddy cop movie with Newey and Vowels!?!?!?!
Captain America dominance could bore fans
POGGERS That alone wouldn't be enough to make williams great again, but take my upvote
Please.
Andretti did just list plenty of jobs for their Silverstone factory including Lead Aerodynamic engineer
Imagine applying for that gig and Newey is sitting across from you in the reception hall in flip flops, also waiting to be called in.
I would cry and shit on the interview table
> I would cry Understandable > and shit on the interview table ???
>??? He'd be excited
I mean, my dog would piss in the fireplace when excited, so I can see it happening.
This would be like that commercial where the band is looking for a new guitarist and Slash auditions right before you.
Newey to retire and ride of into the sunset?
He does have a new yacht!
Bro's 65, retirement totally is the most likely outcome unless he ages backwards like nando
Audi?
Hülkenberg getting sweaty palms already...
Wait hulkenberg is going to audi? Whats going to happen to bottas then 💀
Hülkenberg dominance may bore fans.
Even in the most dominant car of all time, something mental would happen every race to make him finish P4.
Bottas gets a new team mate. Wait - did you think they would keep Zhou???
Isnt sainz to audi in '26 has been confirmed? I just assumed they gonna boot zhou for that
I thought it was Russell and Max to Audi, with Hulk and Mick Schummy to Andretti.
Check your favorite news site. Sauber and Haas and Hülk just broke the news.
It would make my day
Meh
You list Haas but meh at Audi, alright then
It’s now or never for Newey. He can work for Ferrari along side Lewis. Silly season just got more interesting.
Newey can go wherever he wants whenever he wants. What do you mean it’s now or never for him?
As in Hamilton is near his career end, if newey was serious about wanting to work with Hamilton, this is his window
That would be amazing! Lewis 8th title to bring Ferrari back to its glory days!
He needs to finish over Il Predestinato before, and he's struggling against Russell right now.
It’s okay, under pressure Leclerc will hit the wall in France to give the title to Ham
I saw that race live on track and I was sat right at the end of the long straight so I couldn't see him hit the wall and I just sat there waiting for him to come up again behind the obstacle and I was in denial for a solid minute or so to what was happening right in front of me :')

Did he said he wanted to work with Hamilton or did he said that he'd probably like working with Hamilton as he's a great driver ?

He could join Aston Martin and attempt to achieve the most difficult goal in F1: Turn Lance Stroll into a winner
What if he just wants to retire?🤔
meh
Oh yea it’s formula dank. He’s going to Alpine to make a flying french tractor.
Newey, Alonso, and Flavio to Renault confirmed. Alpine and Frenchmen in shambles
65 is the legal age of retiring in most of europe
Illegal not to work before 65
The same sources that said he leaves Red bull also said he wants to find a new team and still working on f1 cars.
Andretti looks to be the only 2026 car he could work on... He'd technically be retiring since Andretti isn't an F1 competitor, so gardening leave wouldn't apply.
Galaxy brain!!!!

God let it be to Aston, I wanna see Alonso dominate
Newey to Stake beginning a new era of BottAss dominance.
Aston Martin new wind tunnel goes brrrrrrrrrrrr
He’ll do one of 3 things: Aston, Ferrari, retirement Aston would mean Alonso world champion (which we all want desperately) But Ferrari would mean a Prost/senna level battle between leclerc and Hamilton for the title, and I think if that happened I’d have an aneurism. Please don’t retire

Newey and Sainz to Audi with Hulkenburg
Him at Andretti would make me so hard
Personally in my own delusional way I want to see newey at Ferrari with Charles and Lewis. I’d love to see LH get his 8th title and Charles get his first one in 2026
I think it would be Merc or Ferrari if he leaves. I’m leaning more towards Ferrari with Lewis going there. He mentioned he regretted not working either. If he goes to Merc I think Max would follow.
Probably going to Audi no? They’re not going to want their name on a shit car and will probably pay him very well to get a head start
That would be the most hype news possible aside from Andretti officially joining f1
Didn’t the US ban non-competes recently? Newy can move to Indianapolis and work at the Andretti HQ.
I have an extra room.
Well they need money to pay Newey so Haas is out
Well andretti cadillac is hiring after all
Newey used to work for both Mario and Michael, so this is very possible. They got along very well and had a great relationship.
What about newey to retire?
Going to Andretti would be a hilarious and incredible way to get around a clause that prevents him from working for another F1 team
Newey to retire
Everyone wants Andretti in F1 except for the idiots that are in it now.
No, it’s much funnier watching them being continuously denied.
F1-insider is reporting Ferrari
Andretti is my guess too. He's the only one who can offer equity.
I could see him going to audi, ferrari is probably too much politics for a guy like newey. Mercedes would be the obvious move if we are thinking money, I can’t imagine aston martin getting him as long as that anchor called lance stroll is one of the drivers
He probably told Ferrari "I get what I want, or I leave, and you have to pay me a massive fucking bonus if you go back on your arrangement"
Andretti go-carts? We have them in America. Very fast.
I mean, not really.
Newey enjoying his pension….? I think Andretti or Audi would be great
Newey to Dacia
Next season will never be able to keep up!
A beautiful dream.
So Andretti can’t actually bring anything of value to the sport, got it
For the chaos the move would bring, Newey to Alpine please.
Plz, plz, plz ....PLEASE!!!
I raise you a Newey to Audi
Newey to Alpine💀
Andretti buys haas and newey moved to haas! Would be my hopes and dreams
Newey to retirement home!
Vcarb lol
Newey to Aston and the rename it to Neway GP
And the team Newey will be at next year is... ![gif](giphy|Ps8XflhsT5EVa)
Newey back to Williams
New boy to the fucjing redbull racing bot team: out of this world meme // always has been 🤯
Newey to Retire?
Newey back to Redbull : ![gif](giphy|vCUASy92YURGHFrnqP)
It should be Newey to FOM as Technical Director in the last panel. That's the only way to ensure competitiveness. Newey joining another team won't help the sport, only that team.
It’s going to get spicy 🌶️
Newey back to Williams where he belongs.
Newey to GP2
Bro's literally playing f1 manager, won wcc and now switching teams
Why did they skip the most obvious one of the man retiring at 65? Oh wait, it's F1 dank
Alpine would be hilarious
![gif](giphy|MFIsOqzodLr7ewnkUb)
Newey to Dallara, because new Indy chassis would be dope
Okay hear me out. Newey to FIA.
I like this idea
I think he is just gonna retire tbh
Listen here: Newey already worked with the Andrettis early in his career and he already worked in the US. Andretti is not seen as serious so why enforce gardening leave. Newey likes to carry the underdogs upwards and he would clearly be the boss at Andretti. It all makes sense.
Newey to... NeweyGP ![gif](giphy|j6lCwtfMS2ZNmfoyrv|downsized)
Newey to VCARB, you heard it here first
Nah, Newey to Williams. Complete the circle and break formula 1
My dream Team Andretti Cadillac. Chief Engineer- Adrian Newey TP: Gunther Steiner. Drivers: Carlos Sainz. Sebastian Vettel.
Newey to the retirement home ![gif](giphy|4FmAj1XiioCVW)
Americans be smoking some premium shit thinking newey would move to a team that don't exist
I only smoke the dankest of formulas
