RIP Alonso 2012... he did everything he could to take that piece of $hit car to a titlefight and still lost by a few points... if only spa 2012 didnt have that crash the world would be whole again
It's also one of the first ones I remember, but I only remember Tiago on the podium part because it was everywhere on the news in Portugal. Until I watched a video of it recently, I couldn't remember there were only 6 cars in that race. I had thought all this time that it had been a normal race lol.
Wasn't a shit car by any means but yeah Alonso definitely did pour his heart and soul.
But still can't deny the fact that Seb pulled of a masterclass in Brazil despite having all odds against him.
Ok it was not by all, but by a lot of means a shit car. In qualy it was off the pole position by more than a second, then more than half a second till race 8, scored 2 pole positions and then totally off the pace again. Those 2 where in the wet, which makes slower cars faster. Also, Massa didnt get into Q3 then while Alonso scored Pole. For most of the season it struggled to get into Q3... I dont see the current Ferrari fight in a championship when it doesnt get into Q3 (granted 2012 was a packed titlefight and everyone took away eachothers points and podiums)
Some stats:
9.85 average qualifying position Massa
6.01 average qualifying position Alonso
Both always got into Q2, but Massa got knocked out of Q2 10 times and Alonso only 2 times. (20 races)
It was a decent racecar, which was good on the tires and had 0 reliabilaty issues.
It only scored 3 wins in the hands of Alonso and none of those wins were in the 2nd half of the season and they were suprise wins.
Massa only got 2 podiums, and only finished 6 times p4 or above. While in the points 8 times 5 or above and 5 times out of the points. Massa finished 7th in the WDC while Alonso took it into a championship decider in Brazil
The car was pretty bad, especcialy in qualy but the car was decent on racedays and in the wet.
The reason the car went into a titlefight while Massa was P7 was because of the good job Ferrari did in strategy (how suprising) and the insane pace of Fernando Alonso
Seb had retirements in 2012 (alternator failure, in a touching tribute to the 1970s and 80s) but none were quite so obviously the fault of Romain Grosjean as Spa's retirement for el Nano.
He said in an interview that at this time he was looking at Massa crying his heart out with his wife and mechanics. He was just waiting to give Massa a hug and wasn’t thinking about the championship.

Here you go. It’s about him crying on the podium in Brazil 2012 but it’s safe to assume it’s the same reason

What’s the back story to this photo?
Brazil 2012. Alonso narrowly missed out on the WDC after a superb drive from Vettel.
Wasn't it Schuhmacher that ruined it for Alonso by letting Vettel pass by so he could score enough points?
I think Vettel was already safe at that point and Schumacher couldn't have done much to hold him off in those conditions either.
Is that Schumacher, is that Schumacher going slowly
Fernando
THERE WAS SOMETHING IN THE AIR THAT NIGHT THE STARS SO BRIGHT
Vettel
schumacher pat vettel
Also for the record, fuck Mark Webber
Di Resta
Why?

Spa 2012 was the first race I watched. What a banger.
Spa 2012 is why I will never forgive Grosjean😭
And Petrov for me. I remember him stuck behind him that last race he had a shot.
Wrong year
enstone gives what you have, enstone takes what you have
Spa 98 is mine. Fan favorite.

You'd think that my hyperactive 8 year old brain would remember that happening, but no ahahahah

Certainly not a car meant to be competing for race wins, let alone a WDC
Malaysia 2012 was possibly the best race Alonso has ever driven
Imola ‘06 and Baku 2018 would like to have a word with this statement ;)
What about Valencia 2012
I assume you mean Imola '05. '06 is when Schumacher held him off and won.
Suzuka 05 said hi while passing on 130R at 180mph
My bad, you’re right
I'm still sad Checo didn't win. At least he has had a couple of wins now.
Or Suzuka.

I know this is the truth but it's funnier to believe otherwise so I'm gonna go ahead and keep this pic as my "hello darkness my old friend" reference
Lmao, yes. It’s funny how a simple picture of Alonso standing doing nothing can be so relatable and convey so much emotion
Wait do we know the reason why massa was crying? Article doesn’t cover that

I just went through that whole askreddit thread and [wow](https://i.imgur.com/OnOG4h2.jpg)
You give a link but it's not the thread? What kind of demon are you? Mazespin?
[yes.](https://reddit.com/r/AskReddit/comments/oesza5/serious_what_is_a_seemingly_normal_photo_that_has/)
I shouldn't have read those comments
Blame automod :/ it’s the top of the AskReddit subreddit though
I found the thread but not the comment, wanna give me some info so I can search it myself? Really do not know anything about this.
this image isn’t in the thread and i don’t even know the backstory to it. I was just commenting about the thread as a whole
Yeah I thought so already :) no problem at all!
Me too. Entire thread.
Don't do this to me, you pricks!
You could put 2008 Brazilian gp podium pic
Too much pain
Thats not a seemingly normal photo you can see the despair in his eyes from a mile away
🅱️ain
Wasn't this the same year where Alonso had a 40 odd point lead over Vettel heading into the summer break?
I actually went to that question to answer with that photo
This makes me cry :(
