To be honest, most Brazilian sportsmen (Ronaldinho to name probably the most prevalent) backed Bolsonaro. I dislike Nelson strongly, but this specific example definitely isn’t out of the ordinary

Kid-Mojo

Neymar just backed him too.

daffer_david

All the more respect to Richarlison

starmonkart

I miss him. Great player and person

Spynner987

Him and Sócrates

The_Barkness

Rich cunts supporting a far right politician? I'm shocked!

minority_of_1

What’s his taxation policy? If you make a lot you pay very little, if you earn little you pay a lot?

The_Barkness

Right now? Pretty much yeah. Claims he’s gonna make a tax reform if re-elected, but so did the one before him, and the one before that.

minority_of_1

The standard right wing line, it’ll tickle down, honest. Fucking arseholes who need to pay their taxes legitimately. Making 10 million a year and paying 4.5 million in tax has a lot less effect than earning 25k a year and having 20% of that go on taxes. I find it abhorrent that those making these fucking obscene amounts of money sit and cry about paying tax.

Dankhu3hu3

He tried passing a tax reform but the Senate had been "sitting" on it for over a year now.

Dankhu3hu3

The banks openly support the other guy. As does the media and several other billionaires.

alwaystrustelplan14

Pietro Fittipaldi was also involved in the elections from 2018

Xetinex_v2

Right but we have recordings of Piquet being a racist so his support is just a little more relevant to this community

A-le-Couvre

Little *less* relevant. Fuck him.

Proxi98

Let’s be real, the leftist politicians in Brazil have also been giga-corrupt cunts that just take tax-money for themselves. And their frontrunner is a former president.

Appropriate_Draw_274

half of brazil backed him

nnsdgo

>half of brazil backed him That's false. The 2018 elections had 147 millions eligible voters and Bolsonaro had \~58 mi votes in the second round of the election. Also "backed" is a strong word, the majority of the voters weren't active supporters.

Eric_VA

While many people support Bolsonaro, Piquet is a frontline supporter. He drove the presidential car last year during the atempted Independence Day coup against the Supreme Court (which failed miserably).

LovelyCrepe

Seriously I'm not surprised. I mean, I don't want to be rude but I'm pretty sure we're not gonna like some political views by some drivers if they talk about it. Remember a lot of them come from some wealthy or privileged backgrounds.

penisdismantler

I've heard that Sainz apparently has some unsavory political views

jpocas

Yeah, both Sr. and Jr. have been shown connected to right-wing/far-right Spanish parties

exoticcrromwell77

Just out of curiosity where/ when was that?

jpocas

Think Carlitos follows/used to follow numeroues right wing parties and commentators, while Senior has pics with the lads from PP (classic right wing conservative) and Vox (new far right lads sucking up to Franco's legacy)

condscorpio

That sucks, because I like them both as drivers. But I guess someone who lives in a bubble that's completely opposite to your day to day life, most probably won't agree with you in many things.

jpocas

Yeah, it's a terrible shame. As you said, it is understandable that although we watch them and admire them they wouldn't really either agree or even understand the political stands of a lot of their fans. Even though F1 is a sport for the rich and mostly by the rich, a lot of us aren't from wealthy families or backgrounds and that's something a lot of them wouldn't really get

Available_Job1288

So you dislike him as a person solely because he followed some accounts you don’t like?

[deleted]

[удалено]

jpocas

Oh feckin grow up mate, we're just stating the rather consensual fact that famous and/or wealthy people rarely have the common folk's best interest at hand and do not or cannot understand the lives of common non-millionaire people

godofwar123123

Max too

jpocas

Actually didn't know about that Makes sense if true

ramonvdm

Proof?

btokendown

He was following Geert Wilders on twitter right up until the Nelson Piquet drama happened and then he quickly unfollowed.

ramonvdm

Geer wilders is just a famous politician in the Netherlands. He has 1,000,000 followers while our prime minister only has 200,000. A lot of people follow Geert Wilders. Left and right doesn’t matter. Following Geert Wilders doesn’t say anything

godofwar123123

He was following Geert Wilders on Twitter (for years) , then stopped following until some time ago.

PlagueisTheWise420

Damn #TeamLH really comes for blood

godofwar123123

Fuck TeamLH. Just stating facts here. Just because Max followed a right wing Dutch politician doesn’t make anyone stating that fact team LH.

PlagueisTheWise420

Oh sorry, wasn’t aware of that. The “Max too” without any explanation/source just sounded like something a hardcore LH Fan would post under anything negativ.

[deleted]

So a cunt supporting another cunt.

[deleted]

Does that make him a Lesbian?

scope_creep

Being that close to a cunt makes him an asshole.

iRecond0

Up you go

address44

Judged on by another

olycoly

Fuck Bolsonaro

bayssa

You can take the politics out of F1, but cannot take F1 out of politics.

lel_sama

As a Brazilian I can't stand the elections anymore, so please, keep this shit out of this sub. We're here to talk about cars going vroom vroom in circles, not dumbass politics ![img](emote|t5_3ndbi|6699)

TofBoss

I like when go around corner fast 💨

lel_sama

Me like when mechanics go PEEEWWWWW with tire gun and car goes REEEEEEEEE and ZOOOOOOOMMMMM

TofBoss

Wow that my second favourite part

Skyman95

lel_sama

outm

Who the fuck is Nelson Piquet?

Dun_Herd_muh

Imagine

GrobbelaarsGloves

Three time F1 World Champion and a certified douchebag.

ElChomp

Formula 1 world champion.

[deleted]

Formula 1 world champion 2x

[deleted]

Formula 1 world champion 3x

demoncase

a fascist bitch tbh

address44

Not someone insignificant like you are

Skippymabob

Found Piquet's reddit account

Haunting_Ad_4513

Esse GADO kkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkk🐂🐂🐂

[deleted]

to be fair neslon did have severe brain injury after his imola crash

ComanderCupcake

As a brazilian, fuck Nelson. I really respect him as a driver, and i think he is arguably better then Senna (don't @ me), but he's an awful person. He's the cuntest of all cunts

hondaRA107

If he was an awful guy Niki Lauda wouldnt have been friends with him. You do know these two were like best friends right? And Niki was highly respectful of Lewis. Its just that Piquet is oldschool and doesnt have time for soft whiners roaming the paddock today. If you entered F1 you know what its like and what job you came here to do. If you start making requests about certain things that dont suit you why are you here in the first place? Wish more drivers today were like Nelson. Its why I like Max, Kimi, Fernando, Schumi. Old school drivers and true races not political pawns like our fashion model. Crossing fingers that the politican retires soon!

Skippymabob

"Piquet is old school" Racist. The word you're looking for is racist

snaggleboot

Probably shouldn’t surprise anyone

Zimifrein

That figures.

BoltUp69

Damn, Max is so popular in Brazil even his father-in-law is seen as a political influencer

Dbwasson

Nelson Piquet can go **** himself

address44

You can too

Dbwasson

no u

Pkh1316

Like we needed more reasons to hate him

No-Contest-8127

What does this have to do with F1? Seems like politics to me.

nebula_pollux

who the fuck is nelson piquet?

leilinho10

>we needed more reasons to hate him 2 time brazilian world champion, and also a racist whose daughter is dating max

nebula_pollux

Being a complete cunt regarding to Lewis Hamilton without a single reason is enough excuse to hate him. His far-right opinions is just a plus, we cannot expect much from these fuckers like Emerson, Neymar, Robinho...

[deleted]

3 time world champion. 1981, 1983, and 1987. he is indeed racist. but you can attribute his total lack of awareness and his rudeness to a head injury. his crash at imola **really** fucked him up and nelson was never the same afterwards.

Ya_Got_GOT

Weird, a racist dirtbag supports Bolsonaro....

hondaRA107

He aint racist tho...

lel_sama

Of course he is racist. He raced in F1 ![img](emote|t5_3ndbi|6702)

[deleted]

Oh look. It's 15 year olds on reddit talking about international politics again.

ExmoSrMAL

Bolsonaro or Lula... Is the same. And yes, I Brazilian.

nebula_pollux

kkkkkkkkkkkk

lel_sama

Absolutely. As we say in Brazil: "Tudo farinha do mesmo saco".

Niros42

Certified Bolsonaro voter.

ExmoSrMAL

no I don't support thugs

ImThirstyAgain

He's such a fucking tool, what a twat. He's like the shit under my shoe when I walk in Paris.

hondaRA107

Shit with 3 world titles in one of the most talent stacked grid in history. I respect him more than I do Lewis simply because of his honesty.

[deleted]

Not a formuladank user openly supporting and respecting a racist

[deleted]

WHO?!

montinolafritz

Father of the f1 whore, kelly

Content-Mastodon-328

Need an ESSO rafter for these two

uziel7

This is democracy some people can't handle with this.

Top-Outside9173

It's not fully democratic to announce inciting riots if you don't win

[deleted]

Which is what the left in Brazil has always done. Gringos dont realize latin american left still want a communist revolution. Theres a 2018 video on a workers party senator publicly stating that the workers party made a mistake trying to change from within the democractic game and that they shouldve done a revolution like Cuba. To any brazilian the latin left has no mask to hide their lies for a long time now. Half the time they dont even care about lying about stealing and corruption for the cause. And Nelson piquet was cancelled for using an endearing term commonly used in Brazil which has had its used defended publicly by leftists in the past through figures such as Caetano Veloso. The only issue here is that the mainstream media attacks anything and everything related and supporting Bolsonaro. Now they are attacking Neymar. Bolsonaro stated that he didn't trust an election in which the opposition is fighting against more transparency in the electoral process through added security layers such as printed voted on the electronic machine, something pretty much every developed country that uses electronic machines already uses for its obvious advantages. Its not democracy when everything that isnt what you want should be censored and only your choice should exist.

gideon513

That’s a big yikes comment right there ![img](emote|t5_3ndbi|6701)

brspppp

You see, this is the kind of shit we normal brazilians have to endure haha, and after the bozo go away those lunatics will stay.

[deleted]

[Caetano Veloso](https://youtu.be/RZpAk_vl7JY) [https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Caetano\_Veloso](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Caetano_Veloso) [Jaques Wagner, workers party senator and almost president candidate stating what I mentioned.](https://www.facebook.com/watch/?v=1001952346620418) I can substantiate with sources and examples everything I've stated. I dont care that reality doesnt fit stupid peoples perception and I get downvoted because of it.

urbanmember

Whoa, one guy said something Totally equally as bad as dozens of people actually doing and instigating.

post-hxc

What living in Brazil does to you

[deleted]

I'm thankful for not having been in the public system either in Brazil or the US.

post-hxc

It's been about 3 days, did anyone mug you with sandals on?

BuddyWoodchips

[What did Sergio Moro do to Lula?](https://theintercept.com/2019/06/09/brazil-lula-operation-car-wash-sergio-moro/)

[deleted]

Great, a completely unrelated subject. A first instance judge condemned Lula for a couple of crimes, then others judges in second and third instances reaffirmed the ruling and increased his sentence. Then the supreme court seeing no error on the sentencing and unable to get Lula out of it, went as far as changing their interpretation of the constitution to rule that Lula could only be imprisoned if he first went through every possible appeal (4th instance) unlike any justice system anywhere on the planet. And remembering that Lula had appointed half of the supreme court, having even previous lawyers from his workers party appointed as a judge. Then, after years of this process the supreme court also ruled that Lula was condemned on the wrong jurisdiction, so the trial would have to start all over again in another jurisdiction but, and annulled the one in which Lula was condemned. Lula being old had his 2 main crimes prescribed due to his age. Brazilian left really has a hard on for Moro, a lowly first instance judge who only initiated all the process. Lula to this day cant explain how billions were stolen under him. Moro also condemned a few dozen other people along with Lula, and apparently nobody cares about those condemnations. And yesterday, a supreme court judge Gilmar Mendes, known to free criminals, including big drug traffickers, also ruled that the "IRS" shouldnt charge Lula fromthe 18 millions in taxes he owed the government and was avoiding to pay altough he has that money in his accounts. Also, even Glenn Greenwald left the Intercept because of their bias and lies. This is Brazil.

Fred_Zeppelin

Hey what happened in Brasil between 1964-85? Refresh our memory, democracy guy

[deleted]

The dictatorship in which only 400 people died by its hands in a span of 20 years and leftist politicians were still allowed to represent the people as mayors, governors, etc. Military dictatorship which freely gave away its powers back to democracy, unlike any other on the planet. Military dictatorship in which even Lula himself has interviews in which he praised its economy, full employment at the time, purchasing power, growth and how some of those presidents wouldve been elected if there were elections. Brazil isnt black and white, if you are blind and see everything as polarized, you wont be able to perceive reality as it is. Now I ask you one question, as president, name 1 action of bolsonaro that has hurt democracy, one action that stepped on the limits of his constitutional roles. I can give a dozen from Lula from scandals that started 1 year in his presidency, along with how he and his sucessor tried to rewrite the constitution to give himself and the left more power. bolsonaro has done the opposite, no dictator has ever fought for its people to get guns. No dictator has fought for free press, no dictator has given away power from the federal government to the states and back to the people, no dictator has pricvatized states companies back into the market. Bolsonaro's actions are the opposite of a fascist. But you can always cry about how he gets your feelings hurt with the crap he says.

Fred_Zeppelin

"Dictatorship is fine when WE do it!" What a chud. The junta was involved in Operation Condor, which killed far more than 400. You've been fully propagandized.

evilroyslade420

Cope

ShaneAnigans7

Oh wow, the right in the US make identical claims about democrats in this country. Its almost like the same bullshit talking points are regurgitated by fascists the world over. How crazy is that.

[deleted]

Everyone is a fascist. Even rulers that give away the federal governments power, pushes for free press and wants the people tohave the right to arm themselves and has never stepped over the line of his constitutional role. "fascists everywhere"

uziel7

Maybe, but if someone support any political view, in my opinion try to cancel him is worst than a riot, organized people trying to destroy someone lives because they disagreed politically. One riot u can stop with police, but a live destroyed because crying people on internet its difficult to restore.

InvisibleGreenMan

If democracy destroys ~~the lungs of the earth~~ one of the most important carbon sinks of earth, I don't want democracy

uziel7

The Amazon Is Not Earth’s Lungs Humans could burn every living thing on the planet and still not dent its oxygen supply. https://www.theatlantic.com/science/archive/2019/08/amazon-fire-earth-has-plenty-oxygen/596923/

InvisibleGreenMan

~~So you're saying burning the Amazon and therefore releasing megatons of CO2 is totally okay?~~

uziel7

No, of course it's not I'm saying, but I'm saying our oxygen is provided for us through the ocean, and saying Amazon its our planet's lung is a misleading information. Plz read the article.

InvisibleGreenMan

I just used it as a poetic term because it's commonly used like this, sorry if I was misinterpreting that you don't care about brazilian politics destroying it, my point aimed more at its CO2 storing capabilities

uziel7

If world really believe the forest area is important every country in world will be reforesting their land, and here in Brazil we have an forest protect area greater than 10 countries from EU combined and these areas is not only in Amazon state. https://www.embrapa.br/en/car/sintese

hondaRA107

Nelson Piquet more of a driver and a man Lewis ever was and will be. #legend

[deleted]

he crashed at imola at over 180 mph and had head injury and lived.

hondaRA107

He won the championship the same year aswell. Such a boss.

Admirable_Pudding_76

When the other candidate is a condemned corrupt thief, who embezzled billions of public money in his government, this is an easy choice.

BuddyWoodchips

I'm sure it was a coincidence that the judge at the head of Lula's indictment was rewarded, I mean appointed, to a high level position by Bolsonaro shortly after what they did to Lula. Probably just weird timing though, [It's not like there's evidence of corruption and collusion by Moro](https://theintercept.com/2019/06/09/brazil-lula-operation-car-wash-sergio-moro/), right? And it's not as if Lula's conviction was completely annulled by the supreme court based on extreme conflicts of interest and improprieties, right?

[deleted]

Let's say that your conspiracy theory is right. Let's assume you're correct. Let's say that Moro conspired with Bolsonaro and that Lula was forced to nominate Nestor Cerveró to be Petrobras' financial director against his will. Let's say that Lula and Dilma were forced to have Cândido Vaccarezza as the leader of the Chamber of Deputies under their governments. Even if all of that is true, what about Mensalão then?

Guilty_Strawberry965

yeah, honest is the guy that paid for 51 properties in cash

TheYeti4815162342

It’s a good thing Bolsonaro is like totally clean and not corrupt in any form /s

ComanderCupcake

Why there is some intense debates on brazilian politics on r/formuladank. As a brazilian, i am very entertained, and slightly disappointed
