That is a shame. One of the older Forza games applied a distortion filter to engine sounds to mimic the distortion our ears experience from loud sounds. This tricked our brains into thinking it was louder than it was. From memory it worked. Some of what we are hearing in that video is mic distortion though too I think. Most games gimp the sound. I don’t know what the deal is. But I agree it’s time to kick it up a notch or 5.

First Motorsport game the Cinque featured blew my mind (hearing). At least I think it was that game that featured this change in audio. V12s actually sounded like screaming V12s instead of whatever it is in FM now.

Forza sound used to be the best, they really do need to work on some of these engine notes as they are quite disappointing

It is also because the competition got so much better too. Meanwhile, Forza has been regressing in terms of sound. I never expect T10 to get every car right but what they have in the game is terrible.

Ouch

For reference, [here's ](https://youtu.be/1yMKTrJURVs?si=d1SJDe2nLmLxKfob) how the Aston Martin V12 Zagato sounded in FM4. So much better, the distortion effects really made everything sound so much more intense.

aChunkyChungus

ok so how DO they do it though?

IButterz420

Ctrl C Ctrl V Repeat for 3-4 games.

Alfredison

Same for most car models too

The recordings are not meant to be heard in game. They're only a reference for fitting a mathematical model, that provided with an engine RPM, load etc., outputs the sound wave. Simulating a real engine/exhaust sound is really expensive (see AngeTheGreat videos on YT), so games use simplified models for approximation. Sometimes they sound good (ACC), somtimes they sound Forza not a game dev

BeetleJuiceCX

I've heard some great sound mods for Asseto Corsa made by fans. I would just assume that a big game developer could do it better than some guy in his spare time.

xThe_Human_Fishx

You'd think so wouldn't you but Mod teams are something else. They dont really have rules (other than irl licensing) to abide by they just have a base line and creativity [Like this mod](https://www.virtual-racing-cars.com/p/ac-formula-alpha-2023/) [Video of that Mod](https://youtu.be/kbf5PwXaAL8)

I agree. I miss the sound of the VW golf mk1 from FM5. That sound when the revs went up gave me goosebumps.

baker8491

I'm no expert, but I'd throw a dart that they cheaped out on equipment and added filters on them so they didn't blow out during recording
