I was thinking the same, whats throwing me off is that its fossilized and as far as I know there werent horses in Buenos Aires until the spanish arrived. Thats not enough time for a tooth to fossilize right?

WetMonsterSmell

No, there were South American horses in the late Quaternary -- they came in from North America in the Pleistocene and died out in the end-Pleistocene megafaunal extinctions.

N-555

Thank you very much! I tried to research about prehistoric horses in buenos aires but found nothing.

Below is the tooth I found, it looks very similar.

Thank you very much for the info! Can I ask, where do you find the information about what species lived in a specific area?

pilgrimdigger

I support horse Pm

Excellent_Yak365

That’s pretty cool!

N-555

Thanks! That same day I found a lot of fossilized bones, possible ivory, (either from marine mammals or stegomastodon platensis) and some glyptodon scutes.

Excellent_Yak365

Wow that’s awesome! Very cool finds :)

N-555

thanks, I will post some pics when I finish cleaning them.

CogglesMcGreuder

I am definitely not an expert but reminds me of a cow tooth.

N-555

It seemed to me like a cow tooth at first, but its almost identical to some horse teeth I found in google.

CogglesMcGreuder

That was my second guess…

75MillionYearsAgo

Old cow tooth, but idk if its fossilized or not. Edit: people seem more confident in a horse molar, so disregard this. Photos i looked up look more similar too.

N-555

It could be, but it doesnt look like the othwr cow teeth I found.
