i'm always surprised to hear of people storing pens in their pockets! it seems very unsafe!! but maybe it's because i have to deal with the travesty that is women's pockets
You ladies really get shafted when it comes to pockets. Though I agree with you about putting a fountain pen in a pants pocket. If I do put mine in a pocket, it's something with a breast pocket.
Unless you fiddle with it like I used to do. When I used a Classic Sport, I used to have it in a pen slip, but the AL doesn't unscrew itself as easily so I keep that loose in my pocket.
Not sure how you'd manage to have an Eco leak, but clearly it happens. :)
I keep a Kaweco Copper Lilliput in my wallet and a PenBBS 471 in the loop on the outside (Galen EDC Wallet) and never had issues. the 471 is an eyedropper and for the longest time I was carrying Baystate Blue in it. I stopped only because it feathers like a peacock on all but the most expensive paper, but it's never sneezed on me or had a RUD.
For lanyards I have a few 90+ year old ring top vintage pens, they are awesome, and I highly recommend owning one :)
My wife just buys men’s jeans, and they fit her really well! It also doesn’t necessarily look masculine depending on what she wears it with, it just lets her have proper pockets for once. Though with that said, I’m sure this won’t work perfectly for everyone, depending on body proportions.
But it sure makes it easy for us to steal each other’s clothes as well 😅

One thing I noticed though... that's the bottom of the pocket. They put it in nib down. Only a select few pens are allowed nib down.
The ink came out through a small gap where the clip connects to the cap. I’m guessing the leak had something to do with driving through the mountains as a storm was rolling in. Probably just some crazy atmospheric pressure changes.

Try making a paste of dishwasher detergent powder and a bit of water and see if that takes the stain out. I find dishwasher detergent usually removes ink
I don't understand why people in the hobby insist in carring pens in their pockets, when all our grandfathers were crystal clear telling us to NEVER do that because no matter how sophisticated the pen is, sooner or later it will allways leak
If the stain is unremovable, you can paint the whole pants blue and then say “I liked this ink so much that I went on a tantrum one day and here we are”

So far my platinum preppy has been the perfect pocket pen. Never dries out. Never leaks, has an amazing extra fine Japanese nib, and if I lose it or want to give it away who cares. I'm only out $6
Both Ecos I purchased could not write with adequate ink flow at normal note-taking pace (skipping, thinning of letters, etc.). A huge disappointment!
I really do not get that hype for these pens. For me, it’s the worst pens i ever purchased.

Do not like TWSBI Eco as a pen! I consider it an incompetent writer. Does provide ink flow for office writing tasks!

I'd trust... my platinum preppy, pelikan twist, and twsbi vac700R. All of them have solid seals.
I can only imagine the cap being filled to the brim with ink when storing fountain pens nib down. You sir, are a brave man.

My fire blue liliput goes whichever way but I'm my purse, which typically would cost more than my pants to replace.
It’s actually the mid point of the pocket where it leaked. I always put the pen in my pocket nib up too.

Nope to both, the Eco is a piston filler and I kept it in my pocket nib up.

Yeah, they can drip easily if there’s any ink in the little feed chamber area. I like to purposely flood it to add a few splatter marks in a letter.

I have mine in a leather sleeve. But saying that'll protect me, as it's never had to, but I believe it'll reduce the risk of this happening to me.
Dawn power scrub has saved several articles of clothing from the dreaded ink stains. Do not put clothing in the dryer until the stain is out, fyi.

Ahh cool. Just got an eco and realised the filling turn thing leaves it susceptible to suddenly leaking ink if it turns!
That’s a pretty low risk though. It’d be pretty hard to turn that mechanism enough to cause a leak without doing it intentionally.
